The game's story begins in the year 2121, in a world where the majority of human populace exhibit mutated abilities. This is how laws and morals are taught and enforced. While binding, the friendly personality of these devices ensures that they their permanent presence feels more like having a caring companion than a jailor.

It is in this world that you are born, raised... and killed. But your determination to live and finish your life's mission is too strong to diminish even after death, and it is with the aid of a mysterious otherworldly girl that you managed to return in the body of a dead teenager. Way better than the first game, tho if you havent played it b4 this 1 make sure you do otherwise u might not understand some things... its free anyway & you just need 2 complete 1 ending to understand this game (takes around 2 hours 2 complete)
also some ppl complained about ihow u REALLY need 2 manage ur stats but honestly i had a easy time w/ stat management,..,.,,,,,..
also also idk bout the other endings but the one i got (true ending + my romance pick) was a bit of a let down on the romance,,,

Amplitude has a really interesting story. You get a bit more insight into the story as Adam/Jon than as Eve/Katy, though I'm unsure yet how much of each story exposition shifts if you select Adam/Katy or Eve/Jon as a combination. It seems as though certain elements are tied to Jon, others to Katy, some to Adam, and others to Eve.

While the story is great, the text/writing...not so much. I'm not sure whether the game was written in another language and later translated, but many of the lines use incorrect verb tense and other grammatical errors that can sometimes make the conversations feel a bit stilted. In at least one place in Katy's route, there's a response that seems to be erroneously coded as Jon, which confused me, since at first, I thought that Jon overheard the conversation and jumped into it, since Katy had already met him at that point (I think it was a conversation with Cam). Likewise, there's one exchange on Jon's route, where his response is listed as Katy. That said, having read through poorly-translated-but-with-a-good-storyline VNs in the past, this wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Crafting....I really like that you don't get dinged for time when you make things. However, the craft mode screen can be really hard to decipher sometimes. You can't hover over to see what the items are (and some items, like the needle, can be hard to see in the recipe list). The window should be larger, so that items don't require the sidescroll (which also isn't visually obvious). It would be nice to be able to see your craft mode window while shopping, rather than having to toggle back and forth between shopping, and your inventory.

Missions...I like that these clearly outline the days of the week you can find someone. It would be nice if you could filter out the completed ones and just see pending.

Overall, really interesting game - I plan on giving it at least one more run through to get all the creepy dolls because I want to see what happens....

Next time you make a pseudo-sequel to an obscure free visual novel that isn't even on steam or the developer's page, but is kinda important to understanding the worldbuilding and recurring characters, actually put that in the descriptions for crying out loud.

PS: Lol good ending and true ending's difference is just around five lines of dialogue, you serious?

PPS: The part where girl in boy's body finds out how painful a nut shot is was pretty funny tho.

I enjoyed Amplitude for the unique experience it is and think it deserves more positive reviews. My one piece of advice is to replay this game to get the complete picture and be satisfied with the endings. That includes playing as both genders. It was fun to play both, but, Jon/Adam’s story seemed to uncover the mystery better. I think Katy/Eve’s route could be improved or even have a note placed at the end encouraging the player to restart the story as Jon/Adam. I would have missed out on a lot if I didn’t do this and I had no idea that this character choice would make such a difference to understanding the story and mystery.

Don't get me wrong, Amplitude is still a great visual novel. It sticks out for the unique game play and twists and I love the concept. Stat raising, different endings, quests, crafting and romance options allows for a lot of freedom and replay value. There are many characters, locations and some voice acting which I appreciate. A lot of time must have been put into making this game and it is worthy of love.

Do you recommend this game? HARD NO. I never write bad reviews, but this game is just so, so bad. Laughably so.

The story reads like it were written by a 13 year old on Wattpad. It literally makes no god damn sense. The main character is an annoying, illogical, manipulative edgelord mary sue.

I wanted to like the universe, but there's no world building. The creators just took different random elements and smashed them together. There's no relevance to the (non-existent) "plot".

This game is extremely outdated - not only in it's shoddy subpar (mismatched) art and voice acting. There's a transphobic character/caricature, a character who fetishizes gay men, the MC makes pedo jokes about another character for having a young-looking friend, etc etc. (SPOILER) The main character befriends a character who confesses that he had (similarly) attempted suicide in the past. Instead of sympathizing with them, she immediately makes it about herself and gaslights them into believing that they are at fault and she is the victim. They brush off this bizarre interaction with a giggle and go get lunch or whatever (.. what .. ?). Yes, you could argue that this is the MC's character - obnoxious, entitled, and bratty. But why the fuck would anyone enjoy a character like that?

There are literally 0 likable characters in this game. Everyone is extremely two-dimensional and boring. The non-existent story is gruelingly long and... non-existent. The writing is so, so, so, so bad. So bad. I'm convinced a child wrote this.

The quest system is just okay. The crafting system (...which, YOU have to figure out on your own w/ no tutorial) is annoying because you can only access recipes at night, and they don't supply you with the names of ingredients. You have to memorize the tiny little icons (or take a picture). It's also frustrating because the game doesn't specify what items you need for a quest or event. For example, the green chick told me to make a dress and buy makeup for the ball event. So I made a dress and bought makeup. Only for her to tell me on the day of the ball that I didn't make a dress, robbing me of 10,000 dollars.

Do I still enjoy this game? Somewhat, yes, because I enjoy Persona type of games. If anything, I applaud the devs for their ambitious attempt with RenPy; you can definitely feel their passion and ambition. I still have no idea what the fuck is going on in this plotline or what the point of this game is. But I'm morbidly intrigued enough to continue on. But would I recommend this game? Absolutely the fuck not. I can't imagine buying this game full price. I purchased this game on sale for 0.99 cents and I honestly hate this game so much that I wouldn't even recommend this game on a dirt cheap sale. It's that bad. I purchased the dev's newest game that came out recently, and if it's anything like this game, I already regret giving them money.

This game was a complete breath of fresh air. The story is very different from other visual novels you play. You have some stats to build, but they are minimal and by no means take away from the relationships you are trying to build with the people around you. They tie into the entire mystery of the game and actually HELP you solve the various mysteries of the game. You play as a spirit who was murdered and you get to share a vessel with someone else and neither one of you are really having an easy time of things. I am not going to put spoilers into my review so I will leave it at that. Let's just say that you choose your gender, you choose the gender of the person who you want to share the body of (my favorite is the female of both) and once you start this visual novel and actually get into the story- you will be hooked. One time playing is not nearly enough to get the entire story either. I LOVED this game.

interesting premise and the art is good, but i find both the mechanics and story hard to follow. i don't know what i'm supposed to be doing, or how to do it. things like cheerful music playing during what i think was supposed to be a very dark and serious conversation doesn't help with the immersion, either.

      to be more specific;

-menus are setup more to look interesting than to make sense, with an overuse of symbols instead of words.

-there is no personal quest tracker. good luck getting what you need to do done on time.

-relationships are unclear. between the vessel, soul, and player, as well as just who is romancable and who is an ally or an enemy.

-it is not clear when an action will result in the day ending, wasting vital stat-building time.

-there is a crafting station in your room, but you can't go in there except when you sleep.

-map waypoints and stores are unlabeled, making navigation frustrating.

-is there a point to responding to texts/emails? i responded to one and then got yelled at for not responding...

-according to the settings menu there's a skip button, but i haven't seen it.

-also according to the settings menu, you can turn voice off, but i still heard some in the intro

Amplitude is an interesting concept for a visual novel that with just a little more care in its construction, could have been a very rewarding gameplay experience. As it is, we have an offering that is caught a little in the middle of wanting to be both a VN and an RPG; the result of which is a chaotic ball of confusion that is difficult to get a grip on and will likely lead many players to never finish their first play through – a conclusion somewhat borne out by a glance at the Steam global achievements for the game. Of the 78.7% of purchasers to have started playing, the next highest achievement percentage plummets to a mere 48% at time of writing; this serving as a stark indicator of lack of player desire to stick with it.

Which (having fought off my initial preference to abandon the game early) is something of a shame, as a lot of things to do have been packed into the relatively small package on offer here. The story makes much more sense once you are on your second play through, and at least 3 of the 4 potential MCs are wholly supportable, which makes player engagement easier. We have unusually refreshing character choice options. The player character is a dead soul of either gender, who is granted life anew within the body of a young suicide victim, also with a choice of genders. You have the freedom to mix these together in whichever combination takes your fancy, and the story will have differing subplots dependent upon your initial selections.

The main story takes you on a timed journey lasting around 5 weeks, during which time your objectives are to find the killer of your chosen dead soul, and ultimately put the world to rights using your vessel character. Along the way there are a whole range of other minor story possibilities, including several short-but-sweet romance paths and a whole catalogue of optional mini-quests which all add to the replayability factor.

Graphics throughout, on the whole are delightful. Just occasionally the character sprite and CG would look more like cousins than the same person, but for the standard presented, this is an entirely forgivable quibble. There is also a huge gallery to unlock, which would require a large number of replays to fully conquer.

Frustrations in replaying the same content repeatedly in order to view a tiny alternative subplot can be largely alleviated by shrewd use of the plentiful save slots. I recommend saving at the start of every single day, in a new slot. Doing this enables you to match up the slot number with the in-game date, so you can easily load back to the day of your choice (so, slot number 15, for example, would reload as the beginning of April 15th); and then simply make an alternative decision to get your different storyline.

The game also has an efficient skip function (the instruction for which is easy to miss, so allow me to confirm here that you access it by holding the CTRL key down); and a recent text history which displays upon keying PageUp. This combination of facilities makes additional playthroughs a LOT less painful than would otherwise be the case.

With so many positives in the game, why can I not give it a recommendation? Certainly, with just a little more care in the text department, there would have been a thumbs up at the top of this review; but, sadly, the author clearly possesses an absolute misunderstanding of the usage of past and present tense in the English language; and transposition of the two occurs with such alarming regularity that it is positively jarring. Just a few typical examples are below:

“Tried as you might, you failed to recognise that person.”
“You went inside the bathroom, hearing Aron said, 'fifteen minutes'.”
“You spinned around to face the source..”
“You tried to stand up and get away, but it's impossible.”
“You know if you have used my body properly and kicked that creep's butt..”
“.. guy came out of nowhere and spread some weird toxins that seemed to ate your flesh..”
“How did you guys made up?”

There are also frequent similar occurrences with gender assignment and even singles/plurals. Had the time been taken to put this game through a full proofreading, the end product could have been a shining example of where the genre can be taken. As it is, the game's primary failing acts as a tar pit from which the rest of it, despite its best efforts, cannot escape.

Overall the game was just too confusing. What I really disliked about the game was, how I had no idea what to do, after the intro story. You are let lose on a city, but where to go? What to do? There are jobs you get, but I often didn't find the people, and all of a sudden without any warning another day is over. So you can't really plan the day, ANY click on a character might suddenly end the day, and since there is a timer, I played two weeks without getting ANY bit ahead of the story.

The walkthroughs were kinda vague, and when I found I had after two weeks not met a single of the romance options beside one default, I realized I had really fucked it up. It is just way too easy to screw yourself entirely over. Like I had to make a dress for a ball, but I had no money and after 2 weeks still being broke, I gave it up. It is sad, since the idea of the game is nice, being a ghost inside someone else's body. But clicking people and "!" in the world - you have NO idea what is what and what will do what. So its a bit more like whack-a-mole, and good luck clicking something useful.

My initial excitement with the story vanished quite quckly and have place to total frustration. I would suggest to pass this game, since as far as I have seen, there are no really useful walkthrough's either. Spare yourself the frustation.

This is one of those games where I enjoyed playing it, but it's got too many flaws to say I love it.

The main story is fun, but it's confusingly written at times. It's also easy to miss critical information depending on what choices you make and how you spend your time. I like the concept of being able to flesh out the details of the full situation over multiple playthroughs, but essential info should be written into unmissable plot scenes.

The text could have stood some proofreading and bug checking. There's a few cases where the wrong date is given, typos have been missed, and even one case where my soul's portrait got temporarily gender-flipped during a conversation.

The game probably should have been longer or else cut out about a third of the characters. As it stands, few of them get much time for character development in the plot or in optional hangout scenes. This is disappointing since a few of the more interesting characters are the ones where you can only hang out with them minimally or not at all. I'm not sure what the point is in separating trust and affection, since it doesn't seem to have any gameplay impact - as you raise one, the other goes up along with it anyway.

The two genders of soul you can pick from appear to have wildly different levels of involvement in the plot. It makes it hard to keep an interest in the one who doesn't seem to be important to the plot at all. Adam's so deeply involved that he's one of the major reasons the plot happens in the first place. Eve is tangentially involved with one of the factions and even that involvement is blink-and-you'll-miss-it. Thankfully, the two vessels are more equal in this regard.

The crafting system seems interesting in theory, but it's really just a money sink that's only used for quests and optional birthday gifts. It also sorely needs a way to see your list of recipes when you're not in your vessel's room.

The voice acting ranges from okay to hot garbage. Thankfully there's not much of it. The music is great enough to make up for it.

It's frustrating because the game is fun and it scratches that stat-building VN itch, but it's so unpolished I couldn't justify telling people to pay $11 for it.

tl;dr: Worth playing, but wait until it's at least 50% off.

Amplitude : A Visual Novel is one of few story-driven game I can enjoy so far. Amazing storyline, unusual plot, a lot of combination for ending and good hidden achievements as well. The game really suit for busy people that want exposure of playing a game during their free time without focusing on gameplay. Also bonus for FQ player to see the resolves of the prequels true ending make it a good puzzle for their fans.

One weakness that I feel personally is the story has many explorable characters but lack of development for those characters, even for multiroute visual novel. Despite of short amount of time player has to solve the story "Puzzle", the climax supposed to explored the other characters deeper, at least compared to the prequel.

Overall I would recommend anyone with interest in light Fantasy/Sci-fi/Mystery themed game lovers. 7.9/10. Keep up the good work, Ceylon Entertainment!! ^^

This is just my personal opinion.

      Pros:
      - Liked the idea of the game (inspired by the Persona series).
      - Gaming system was really fun and creative.

      Cons:
      - Could not relate to the main female character (forgot her name).
      - Romance through a different person? and not your character (which is a big deal breaker of mine).
      - Story felt confusing at times.

This game is pretty twisted and to be honest my normal playstyle landed me the bad ending first time through and left me stunned and wondering why. After i read through some of the comments and the forum I figured out the "how" but had serious doubts about whether i wanted to go for a good ending after i figured out what was required of my choices to get one.
Without giving away anything, in order to progress to any of the good endings, you have to be more "evil" than good, as summed up by all your choices in the game up to that checkpoint, otherwise your snuffed out in favor of another, presumably more evil, choice and.... welcome to your bad end! Let me be clear, it works peferctly well in the games setting, in other words it makes sense in its own context, atleast until you choose to be evil enough to progress to the end of the game, where suddenly you get to be the good guy!
Huh? What? You mean the good guy that cared about everyone and tried to be kind and make everyone elses life better gets snuffed out without some much as a "defend thy self!," and the lazy, manipulative, spiteful guy gets a pass to go and be the hero?! Yep and the game doesnt even ask you oh evil one, if you want to go save everyone! Isnt it too much effort? Are they even worth saving to you? Wouldnt you rather just rule over their broken trembling forms? The offer if made, but your never even given the chance to accept. Nope your a hero now!
Thats what I mean by twisted. Is the story line good? Its amazing. Are the characters deep and meaningful, well fleshed out. Yes! Graphics? check! music? Ok. I cant decide if what's wrong, is something thats missing (uhm a route where the good guy knows he has to decieve a certain someone into thinking their truely their best minion when their actually knowingly working against them, best unlocked after first bad end playing as a good guy), or the game itself is wrong (for me and maybe you) and simply targeting that group that believes evil is fun and should be rewarded.
      You Decide.

      Amazing.
      Truly amazing.
*Editing my review because I realized I didn't talk much about Amplitude*

I love the fact that you can pick either male or female AND then your vessel's gender.
It can be GxB, GxG, BxG, and BxB.
The plot is well thought out and very well told. I love all the characters and how they developed.
I went for the True Ending first because I wanted to know how the story was meant to be told and of course I went for the "???" character first. He interested me and I loved his look! But I felt his route was a little bland and rushed.
Even still, absolutely adore the series so far. Though, I enjoyed Freak-Quency a little more; the story held my attention longer and stronger.
Amplitude's artwork and GUI is all so beautiful. A huge upgrade from Freak-Quency.
In fact, the reason I purchased Amplitude: 1. To support developers to make more games. 2. I needed more after Freak-Quency. To those reading, I highly encourage you all to play Freak-Quency and also support!!
I'm also supporting the comic because I enjoy the series that much and need to know what else happens. Hopefully, and I truly do hope, you guys can come out with an anime for Freak-Quency. I will support every game until then. <3

This was an enjoyable visual novel! It had an interesting setting, a satisfying story, and the characters were all fun and well-written. Those are the most important aspects in a visual novel, but Amplitude had a surprising amount of gameplay, too! Wandering town, fulfilling quests, and raising stats was all a bit much to wrap my head around at first. Still, it enhanced the experience a lot once I figured it all out.

Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a unique visual novel experience.

In a nutshell this game is a stat rising, murder mystery, dating sim using point and click gameplay. I played it's prequel Freak Quency a long time ago but I can see some obvious visual cameos for the game even if my memory of the game is kind of blurry on the details XD
With more than 1 MC to choose from there's replay value not to mention the MC combination with each a possible romance ending out of 4 (or more) romancable characters.
So use your days back among the living wisely (and be at least over 50% evil) to get through the crazy game XD

The gameplay is pretty much like Persona 3 Portable with no dungeon crawling and you still have to work to get money. There's partial voice acting that pops up every now and then at random times and there are some typos but I don't think it's too much of a problem aside from the times they mention the wrong date (it happened a few times on Katy's route) lol

I haven't completed the game but I love it so far. I enjoyed playing freakquecy so I was eager to play this game. The game seems to have a lot of branching choices and CGs.

Those who are new might want to check out the first game to understand more of the lore.

Finished 25 percent of the game - gettng a true route is not too hard - lots of fun activities like crafting and stat management with lots of heavy story visual novel elements and a coherent while fascinating plotline.

Very well-polished with good writing style, great art, good music, good plot, and a professional quality experience.

I know the entire plot and I am replaying it for another trial which is proof of the excellent quality from someone like me who remembers every single little detail.

100/10 for an independent game! <333

I've been waiting for this game since the demo came out! The story and the characters are interesting, stat raising system with many quests to follow and of course such variety of ROs to choose!
I totally recommend it to everyone who's a fan of these genres.
I just we could have a guide, for helping us explore all parts of the game.

I've been following the development of this game for close to a year and bought it as soon as it came out. I'm probably biased but I absolutely love everything about it. I've only played through it once so far, but I got the true end and it was a crazy roller coaster of emotions for me. I can't wait to play through it again and get more of the endings! Hopefully a walkthrough is made as well.

Bought it, played it and I love it. So far it's very well written and interesting. However, I can't wait for a small walkthrough to be out since I have some difficulties completing missions that are important to the story line. Maybe I'm just bad at it ?

Edit: The True ending is quite easy to get, which I find extremely nice since sometimes it can be TOO hard to find it by yourself. This game has a lot of replay value since each vessel and body is different, you have 4 different combination that changes the story a little. I also like the fact that you can't complete all of the quests in one playthrough, so if you really want to do them all, you will need multiple and each are quite interesting to do, even if they might be simple.
All in all, this game was worth the wait and an incredible sequel to Freak-Quency. I can't wait to see what the company will give us next ! But whatever they decide to make in the future, they sure got me as a huge fan not only with the game but also because of how nice they are.
