Hatoful Boyfriend is a visual novel where you checks notes date pigeons.
Wait, don’t leave! This game is worth your time, and I’ll tell you why.
As mentioned, this game is a visual novel where you date pigeons as a human high school girl. It’s honestly one of the most unique setups for a game I’ve ever seen.
You’ll meet many pigeons, each with their own routes. Each route can be completed in about 2 hours, and even less once you’ve played the first two and can skip the initial setup. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of overlap in the routes, and the way the game is set up makes it difficult to revert to saves easily, as free period classes change things just enough to break that method. That said, the game is short enough, but I recommend using a guide to get all the routes.
You might be tempted, as I was, to just play one or two routes, but hear me out—play them all. When you do, you get access to a final route that makes it all worth it. The length of this final route, the payoff, and the knowledge of the previous routes all come together nicely to create what I honestly feel is a route that I never expected to be as good, considering the routes before it. Because of this, the game is one of those “play for X until it gets good” types. That isn’t to say it’s not good up until that point, but I wish the final route was how the rest of the game was.
Overall, I am very glad I played this. I was far more surprised than I expected, given the game’s setting and premise. Definitely a “don’t judge a book by its cover” type of game.

For the time this came out it was funny to many but it's very dated nowadays even down to how poorly constructed the game is. i.e. this wasn't necessarily designed for a mouse as choosing options is noticeably bad vs using the keyboard.
I dunno I just got tired of visual novels but I can't blame this than more so, some publisher that's notorious for churning em out constantly with the same dumb themes with the same title.
Unironically one of the best dating sims I've ever played.

Hey! So I bought this here for shigs and gits and left absolutely flabbergasted, jaw-dropped and emotionally conflicted. If you had spoiled me beforehand, I definitely would have laughed in your face ngl. The story line, characters, and content was an emotional roller-coaster to go through, and indeed a cinematic masterpiece.
I WILL be playing this again with unsuspecting friends. 10/10
If someone told me the Bird Dating Sim was going to have an actual storyline plot I don't know if I would've believed them.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. Fantastic music, writing that's both hilarious and soul crushing, and it has the best birds in gaming with Okosan, Azami, and Anghel.

I'm going to be honest here - I thought this was just a silly little bird game that I would stream to my friends and have a little laugh.
I have been streaming for 10 hours. I have never been more wrong in my life. I love this game. Go Birds.

I went into this game expecting a silly bird dating game and whoo boy. I was starting to get bored at first because the characters just felt so shallow and undeveloped... right until I got the BBL route. Good god did my jaw drop... I got so invested into the story and I finally got a grasp of who these characters were. Good game, my only ick with it is some of the outdated language, given that this did come out in 2011

One of the absolute best dating sim games I have ever played. I am always coming back for more, trying to figure out all of the secrets and all of the endings. It's such a unique take and the characters are so fun and interesting, and I love all the characters back stories. 10/10 Will always love this game and recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and unique dating sim game!!!
I picked this one up expecting a total dating-sim parody with ridiculous humour to keep me entertained for a bit.
Which is exactly what I got, that is until I 100% this game (using a guide to find the ones I missed ofc) and unlocked the secret, real storyline of the game and boy was I shocked. I got instantly sucked into it to the point I couldn't stop playing until I finished it entirely (another night of lost sleep, whoops).
Pricing (7,99 for the non-collectors edition game as of writing this) is okay.
Laughing-out-loud-entertaining and surprisingly good, can recommend.
