Tomb Raider: Legend

Played this on the OG Xbox back in the 2007. Even in 2025 its still just as good as it was back then. Just no triangle boobies

I’ve been on a TR kick since the 6 remasters came out so I decided to continue on and play this one again for the first time since it’s initial release. Absolutely fantastic game and one of the best in the series. WHY don’t they make games like this anymore???? If you are a TR fan you need to play this game if you haven’t already. Played perfect on the Steamdeck but there are some very minor graphical glitches during cut scenes and in a couple of levels, nothing game breaking.

over all good game. some physics are a little wonky and camera isn't the best, not the worst but i do fight with it from time to time. i wish i could remember if these issues were there on the ps2 version.

really good game!! puzzle not too hard, the story is nice, and basically i realized that amanda is just sam in another universe whereas amanda turn out to be evil after the possesion (and lara cant save her when shes drowned) and sam being damsel in distress lara could save and succeed and didnt turn out evil.

and i know abt the og storyline where in tr13 sam is supposed to be dead and eventually himiko possesed her and maybe will turn out to be amanda 2.0 lol, i mean thats just uhhh did they think to just be making the same old storylines with a little bit of tweak and different character? well im glad the playtesters outcry abt that tho :)

and ive been thinking thats the reason why sam is absent from the newest 2 game (rise and shadow), maybe they thought abt making her a villain in those, and bcs of the outcry they just scrapped the idea altogether and just like pretend that she didnt even survive the first game..... ok i'll stop


oh wait and i just wanna say one more thing that the game itself crash and basically unplayable in certain level if u turn on the next gen graphics content or some sort, so if theres crash, force close it then play the game without that thing on, it'll become okay again


also... steam overlay doesnt works so cant take screenshots.. lara would say, "bollocks!"

I love this game and i'm so glad i finally got it permanently.

This is one of the best TR game for sure. Even though wonky camera problems and bugs (in particular reaches to peak on level 6 England and to be honest some parts were not playable and i had to reload the last checkpoint), this game has a unique experience and wonderful landscapes. I can easily say this one is timeless. Almost after 20 years that it first published, it brought me back to it again and again. Additionally, i was so happy to launch it with zero problem at the beginning. I was expecting problems because i couldn't have smooth launching on angel of darkness and it was so frustrating to had to change many settings even before start to play.

It's a good game

this forged my taste in women.

I quite liked this. Interesting spin on Lara Croft. Just wish the game was a bit longer. Unfortunately it is way more simplified than classic Tomb Raider series in terms of puzzles and fights. Would still recommend it if you want short action adventrue.

Turn on V-sync in the optional launch menu. Then set the game to 60hz. That will make everything work much better (and make the motorcycle parts actually beatable on Hard)

Ah, back when games were games instead of half baked live services lousy with loot boxes, micro transactions, and season passes. Tomb Raider Legend was the first Tomb Raider I ever played when it released back in 2006 and it left a lasting impression. The gameplay was fun, the graphics were impressive, the soundtrack was a banger, and perhaps most importantly, Lara Croft was allowed to be herself. She was witty, charming, cool headed, acrobatic, smart, and badass. This means that she and the game itself, was allowed to be cheesy, over the top, and pulpy. Imbuing the game with vibes of good old fashioned escapism. But how does it hold up playing it all these years later? Well, let's start with the story.

The plot is somewhat hard to follow at times, leaving me occasionally wondering why I was in a certain part of the world all of a sudden but it's mostly good in providing some context in regard to Lara's past, and how certain events shaped her into who she is now. It also provides opportunities to see her in different situations, environments, and even how she interacts with people other than shooting them. It's not amazing stuff but it's sufficient in providing an overall feeling of being on a globe trotting adventure. That's good enough for me. What about the gameplay?

The gameplay can be a bit frustrating at times. Lara doesn't have the best aim in the world, especially while jumping about and unless you like being shot, you're gonna be doing a lot of that. Although when you jump off a guy's head the game goes into slow mo which is always fun and satisfying. What's NOT fun or satisfying is when you fall through the floor or glitch into a never ending falling animation or don't know how to beat a boss because there's no feedback that you're doing anything at all, etc. These don't happen too frequently though, and most of the time the checkpoints are pretty forgiving so, it's not game breaking. What about graphics?

The game still looks pretty good for it's age. Especially with certain environments. Lara's character model looks exactly like the character should. She's got that 90's Bond thing going on. No matter where she is, or what she's been through, her hair, makeup, and outfit look perfect. She can save the world and look damn good doing it. That's the real Lara Croft. What about the soundtrack?

Honestly I could listen to it while doing the dishes and feel like I was in an ancient temple in Bolivia. It's got just the right mixture of mystery, action, magic, and a surprising amount of sentimentality. So, does it hold up all these years later?

I'm happy to say that despite a level involving Lara on a motorcycle being shot at by approximately 98 generic bad guys and another featuring a giant eel that just won't DIE in a gimmicky boss fight... Yes. I still think it's a lot of fun. Worthy of being on a list of the best in the series and a great example of a time when video games could be video games. Content to be played, beaten, and then played again years later to remind us of simpler times. 8/10

This is the best Tomb Raider game imo. There is something about the fluidity of the movement, the physics, the ability to kick objects, to use bullet-time effects, just little details and features that are not present in other Tomb Raider games. This was the first Tomb Raider game I bought, so maybe I'm biased. Lara Croft also looks better in this version than any other.

Most of the difficulty comes from the fact that the controls are complete dogshit. Several of the maps will crash if you use enable next generation graphics and the motorcycle chase in Kazakhstan on hard is very poorly balanced.

The earliest game in the Tomb Raider series that actually had action controls that we still use in today's games. Halway decent graphics, and the ability to use 3440x1440 monitor with a widescreen setting to stop everything getting squished. It was great during my first gaming session for a little over an hour.
However, coming back to it to continue the story, my 'resume game' option keeps crashing the game instantly, meaning I'd have to start over to continue playing. I'm not prepared to do that, so I guess I move on. Therefore I can't really recommend it.
Ah well it was only a couple bucks...

Friendly warning! Turn OFF the Next Gen content in the menu - it breaks certain areas of the game, washes out the environments and makes Lara's model look terrible.

Its often forgotten that this game quite literally saved the franchise. It doesn't get much recognition anymore, and there are some valid complaints, (combat, glitches, wonky camera), but all of this is negligible to the enjoyment.
It's a stream lined, more action oriented game, but it did the job of cutting the brutal difficulty of the old games which basically slow killed the series as only nostalgia goggled fans could palate it.
It's short, but introduces and executes fairly well all the hallmarks of a great Tomb Raider game. It's now ironically a relic of an era where games didn't have to be 50 hours long, packed with mindless DLC - you could get these tightly woven, easily digestible narratives and move on.
It's aged pretty well on PC, so definitely give it a go at the quite frankly ludicrously low price it often is on sale.
I played with an Xbox 360 controller, and had no issues other than the button prompts being incorrect.

This game will be a Legend forever.

Even with it's more movie like style of gameplay this is still one of my favourites from the LAU trilogy of Tomb Raider reboots. Fast, action packed and FULL of QTE cutscenes just so you remember you're still in the later 2000s.

Definitely a must buy next to Anniversary and Underworld in my book, but just remember to cap the game at 60FPS otherwise baaaaad physics will occur

Absolute must play! Tip: Turn off "next gen content" to fix crashes!

My recommendation comes with an asterisk:

Buy a console version. Whether it be the GameCube or the 360 version, get that over the PC version.

Not sure what the deal is with this PC port but it runs pretty poorly - notably on the vehicle levels. It feels like a never ending loop of scenery on those levels - you just never stop driving and you'll likely get your ass kicked because Lara also seems to take a lot more damage in this version.

But if you play the console version, it's damn good. I miss this incarnation of Lara. The very first level, Bolivia, does an excellent job of setting up Lara and just the overall tone of the game. It's so light hearted and relaxed.

This is one of those games you play and you just feel so at peace. It's relaxing and hardly a stressful experience.

It follows the same kind of gameplay that the previous TRs had of climbing and some action oriented segments where Lara pulls out the dual pistols and just lays waste - if there is a big negative to this game, it's the combat. It's mind numbingly simple. Even on harder difficulties. See a bad guy? Shoot him. Again and again. Nothing to it.

The bosses are where the combat really starts to show its limits as it's just shoot shoot shoot with very little else to do. They try to make it a bit varied by making Lara have to jump or roll out of the way of an attack, but it ain't note-worthy.

The climbing has seem an overhaul compared to the Core Design TRs. No longer the precise, tank-control, clunky movement of those - now Lara controls a lot more fluidly. Maybe a bit too fluidly as the challenge of climbing and solving puzzles may be seen as too easy here by series veterans. Personally, I prefer this style of movement over the Core Design games. It's far easier to just pick up and play.

And to accompany the gameplay is the music and voice-acting. Both of which are pretty good. Some may find the character of Zip to be a tad obnoxious, but I think he's okay. The music is really nice and accompanies the environments in a cohesive way - really adds to the experience of exploring an ancient tomb, or swimming under some ruins, or running away from an evil demon.

I really liked the Croft Manor exploration. Felt like I was playing a much more laid back Resident Evil, and again, the music there complements it so well.

As I said, there is just something so comforting about this game. While the gameplay may be seen as simple and the combat may be a sore spot, something about the music in combination with the fluidity of movement, Lara's voice-acting, and the overall pacing just makes me so relaxed while playing.

I recommend it if you are new to TR and want to know what Lara was like before she became Natalie Drake in the more recent titles. I also recommend it if you are more accustomed to the Core Design games because while you may find the game a bit simplistic, I hope you can at least share some joy in the laid-back tone this game offers.

I hope Crystal Dynamics comes back to this Lara soon. Hell, maybe they'll actually hire Keylee Hawes to reprise the role. I think they really had TR right in this era.

Good game, bad PC port.

Before I played this game I knew nothing about Tomb Raider. I tried some of this on the PS2 but never passed the first level. But on PC finishing it from start to finish, it was a good experience, and i'm glad I got it. It felt like a game I should have tried sooner. The levels, the story, and the design of the atmosphere and environment was just done right all around. Some levels I felt were a bit long, but there were only 3 out of 9 that were like that, so it wasn't an issue really. Another thing was the boss battles being really hard to finish and understand, to the point of needing a guide. But overall it was wonderful, and the completion rewards are nice to motivate you to get to go back into levels and get all the reward crests and time trials. It was just wonderful!

I loved this game as a kid, so I'm a little biased because of nostalgia, but I replay it as an adult and still love it. Lara is sexy, sassy, has zero muscle mass and 100% tiddy mass and fuckin tears through old Japanese gangsters and gigantic, pissed off ancient snakes like it's no issue, so it's a great game.

Controller support is weird. This game is best on controller but it did not port well, my guys. It's not impossible, just makes it a bit more challenging to play than when I had it on Xbox 360. However I did download reWASD along with a Tomb Raider Legend profile, and it helped a lot. A couple tiny issues, nothing I can't live with. Worth it.

Ultrawide support (32:9) is non-existent. Controller layout is hot garbage. Mouse/Keyboard works fine. The menu system and key binding is glitchy. They put way too many "skills" in the game which require different button combinations and you use many of them so infrequently that you have to pause the game and figure out what the key binding is to them... again.

After further play there are several points in the game where the game just completely crashes. You have to turn off Next Generation Graphics just to keep the game from crashing!
