The Story
Defective takes place in the year 2068 when the world has beencaptured and controlled by a race of alien robotic creatures.
All known life on Earth has been burned and destroyed and theworld has been changed radically, this has forced the remaining
people to live hidden underground. The richest of those remainingnow live inside space stations, and not all have surrendered to the
robotic threat, some continue to fight for what they believe in.This has included an attempt by a detachment of peacekeepers to
blow up an interplanetary planet, although this opportunity failedit was not completely pointless as a single defective robot was
collected which could later be reprogrammed. This is where your story begins, after several years to reprogram
this robot so begins the liberation of the Earth from the hands of the alien invaders...

At one point the game was broken, but at some point the devs did fix it. Defective can no be played in full, though the transition between chapter three and four is so long you'll think the game just black screened after a while.
As a game, it's functional. There's only one mode, but two styles of play. Normal is One Night for Ched difficulty in the speed enemy bullets fly at you, and an easy mode thanks to the Superhot style slow motion function implemented. I didn't have much fun alternating or running without the slowing camera, so I just left it on the whole time. (Go ahead, judge me. I do what I want.)
But is Defective fun? Eh, it's ok. The stages are ok with enough of a change to make them to not feel somewhat repetitive, but the objectives are all about the same. Find blah, find exit. It killed about an hour without me regretting the decision, so there's enough competency here for a casual romp through. I'd hold off for a sale, though. I got this in a bundle somewhere (I think?) and while I wouldn't be upset having paid full-price, I'd have been a little happier overall at maybe half the cost given how short the experience is coupled with the lack of substance offered.
That said, I can't really recommend the game full priced. There are plenty of other titles out there with more bang for your buck at this point. If you do see it on sale for a good price, though? Yeah, go for it, especially now that the game is no longer...

What the duck with this game. Pitch black, do the game developer fetish with night time.
Also, what the duck with the gravitational step at the last mission, jump over the box my a**, just build a goddamn bridge. Gravitational jump is sh**!!
So there isn't any more content than 60mins and it is massively buggy so don't buy it. I even got 66% off and refundet it

GAMEPLAY - ★☆☆☆☆

▚ If you get caught near an enemy without your slow-mo on, you're screwed. It's instant death, the bullets go way too fast. Best bet is to keep slow-mo on throughout your entire playthrough, your movement speed is not decreased so it's just an easy win. There's no incentive to ever turn off slow-mo, as it is infinite.
▚ Inventory system is beyond useless, it is utilized once, in the tutorial, then ignored and never touched upon again. No enemies drop health packs, and you can't pick up anything else they drop (Even though they are colored in green, same as the health packs.) You can't even access your inventory. Pressing I will pull up your cursor for a split second and let you move it around, while also controlling your camera.
▚ Similarly, the crouch mechanic is introduced in the tutorial and never used again. Binding it to C instead of CTRL is another mistake by the developers. Yeah, you can't change your keybinds, by the way.
▚ This game features NO crosshair. If you want to be able to aim effectively, I suggest getting a whiteboard marker and drawing on the center of your screen.
▚ Final sequence with your robot friend is confusing at best. I don't even know what I did to trigger the game ending. :/
SOUND DESIGN - ★★☆☆☆
- NOTES -
▚ The sound played when slowing down time is a frequency that goes up, when it should be going down (think of Slow-Mo Guys, pitch goes down to signify time slowing down)
▚ Voice acting is non-existent, all voices are text to speech. It's hard to distinguish two characters when they have the same exact fucking voice.
CONTROLS - ★☆☆☆☆
- NOTES -
▚End level is atrocious. Moon physics are normally okay with me, but having to wait around 10 seconds for each jump to land is horrible. You get extremely limited control of your character, too. Airstrafing would be nice, but since your air control is so limited, one wrong jump will have you waiting about 30 seconds, including the time it takes for you to fall off, respawn, and get back to where you were.
▚ Having your Superjump set to SHIFT is not optimal, SHIFT + SPACE is the more logical solution since the Shift key is most used for going fast in FPS-type games.
▚ Why on earth would you have your primary attack on MOUSE2? No real reason that I can think of,.
VISUALS - ★☆☆☆☆
- NOTES -
▚ I had to turn down all the settings to the MINIMUM just to be able to see what's in front of me. Pitch-black enemies blend in with pitch-black background, and it's even worse when you have rain, night vision, and bloom effects all on at once.
OVERALL - ★☆☆☆☆
I personally enjoy this game. It makes you react similar to SUPERHOT. It makes you think on your feet about what you need to use for certain enemies, as well as having you plan moves out before you attack and after you die.
That's the point. You will die, but you will learn how to better take out your enemies. It's similar to "Edge of Tomorrow".
The only two thing I can complain about it is that I can't reload at all. Once you're out of bullets, you're out until the next level, or if you die again. The other one is that the intro video to the final level takes forever to load in.
I mean ehhh, playing in slowmode is the best option.
I cant seem to reload - idk if there even is a reload feature. its says 0/54 so i assume the 54 is my stored ammo? idk.
Weird game
1. Does not do BT audio well.
-- keeps cutting in & out so bad it's insane.
2. lack of any skip to the 'start' of the actual tutorial/game.
-- No one wants to wait 20-30 seconds.. while a 'cutscene' plays out in engine, just to load the play area.
3. Slow to trigger respawn when falling.
Honestly, those 3 things genuinely make this a no buy from me.
-- Refunded even when I got it for 70% off.
I would suggest if the developers are still trying.. to stop attempting to take full control of the audio source & allow windows to mix it (as it does for any other program), so that it doesn't ruin Low latency BT connections.
I would also suggest, not making intros manditory every time.
slow, as fuck, and pretty fucking boring.
Either this game gets an update and a remake or its not worth buying.
I usually like this kinds of game. Short, simple, shooting enemies, etc...
But this game... needs work.
Map and level wise, no complains.
The controls need to either be better, or allow us to change them.
- Knife with left mouse and shoot with right mouse. BIG NO
- Kept pressing shift to run but it makes you dash foward
- Using items on the inventory doesn't really work.
For the game mechanicis, I liked the infinite slow motion but the bullet station not so much. You should be able to pick up the bullets from the dropped guns or be able to pick them up.
There is always room for improvement :)

This game is a broken pile of garbage, but dang if it wasn't entertaining in the way it broke. We got some pretty hilarious glitching and issues. Oh boy, I sure don't like writing reviews but after playing this game I think I might have to.
First of all do not buy this game if you dislike buggy and or short games.
If anything i'd recommend buying this game in sale as it took me 50 minutes to finish. With the survival mode being 'coming soon' I would say it's not worth the full price yet.
I'd like to start off the actual review by saying this game is bad. It's awful, to start the game I had a 2 minute loading screen and that might be an understatement. after the tutorial I got another loading screen where a voice said inpact after 30 seconds. ~2 minutes later I got the loading screen to the next level. This game is filled with stupid bugs that the devs should have found by playtesting. For instance I fell through a platform that was supposed to open and release a type of enemy. There's an inventory for only 1 item and the menu is buggy like crazy. Area's are very dark to the point where I once fell off the platform because I couldn't see the floor. combat is easily broken by just slowing down time permanently and walking through the level without enemies being able to even hit you. In the final level it wasn't clear at all where I was supposed to go until I accidentally found it.
enough complaining about the game, I've given it a positive review so might aswell state why it's still fun rather than just bashing on and on about the problems it has.
During the tutorial I got bored and just ran through because with the limited controls the game has there was very little need for an actual tutorial. though I was running through the game said out loud what I was supposed to do so I still picked up on the mechanics.
If you don't abuse the slowdown the gameplay gets rather interesting. It's punishing but at the same time very easy to pick up. I'd say limit the slowdown of time to some counter that has to re-charge once used.
the levels were quite well designed. Though it wasn't very clear where to go, I managed to find everything. Maybe add a minimap for directions or see if the brightness alone will fix this problem.
As I'm turning this into a tell the dev what could be done better I'll write down the rest of the things I've got on my mind aswell.
A strong point of the game was the unforgiving gameplay. At points I got shot and died instantly. Rather than being upset I liked it, it meant I was being careless and I learned from my mistakes. I'd say use this to the game's advantage and make the game difficult. 1 shot maybe 2 shots to not make the medkids useless. talking about the medkids, as it's the only item in the game and the inventory being so buggy, why not make the Q-key a medkit hotkey, there's space on the HUD for a medkit counter aswell as the slow down time bar.
the space level was AMAZING I had a lot of fun just flying around but I wish there was more control in the air. Flying around felt very limited, though this is realistic, you're a robot in space... might aswell cut some realism for some fun. Also make the jump less high, it kinda broke the entire first part of the level by just pressing shift twice.
I also noticed in that level when you respawn, you respawn in the air. Probably to not get stuck in the floor but once I respawned it took a few seconds before I landed because of the gravity.
Another thing I noticed is that the orb enemies only showed up once. they came up through the platform which I fell through.
Damn that was a lot of typing... Hopefully that was helpful and dev if you need more playtesting done, just hit me up. I'm known to be good at breaking games ;)
