Soul at Stake is an oriental-themed 1v4 surviving horror game. There once was a luring urban myth saying that if one can win the game would gain countless money as prize, and his/her destiny would instantly change to become the mightiest overnight. All the participants need only one stake——their souls. In the strange and lifeless scene, four gamblers are trying to run away from the devil, but there is no exit. All they can do is to perform a mystery sealing ritual to expel the devil and redeem their souls.

A Tempting Gamble
No one knows that this soul-gambling game is nothing but a hoax made by a ghost called Xi’E (from In Search of the Supernatural, Jin Dynasty). Ghost Xi’E is evil in its nature yet not powerful and unable to perform killing, yet it is a demon who wishes everyone to be evil. It uses the greed in people and lures them to the gamble to perform this cruel soul-gambling game after game.Ghost Xi’E uses its unique power to build dreams, turning the gambling game into a small illusion, luring the participants in it. For those who are inside this illusion, this gambling game is nothing but a real killing game. They will be hunted by devils during the escape, and Ghost Xi’E would conjure many cardholders to allow people to expel those devils who are also the poor souls that are imprisoned by Ghost Xi’E.
Cheated by Ghost Xi’E, gamblers join the game one by one, which keeps the game alive. However, no one will actually win except for the Ghost.
An Unfair Competition
Without exceptions, all the gamblers put their souls at stake. They are dragged into the illusion in groups of four. What they are facing is only one devil, who seems to be outnumbered, yet the gamblers are relatively weaker under the threats of the devil. All they can do is to collect cards, break the seal and expel the devil. However, the items that they redeemed from Ghost Xi’E only add small chances to survival.Ghost Xi’E’s tricks also haunt the devil so that it can never directly catch the preys in order to rouse the killing thirst inside them. The devil must wisely use its powerful pursuing ability to catch and execute the gamblers, or else become dust.

The American and EU servers are down so buying this game is currently useless until they want to bring it back up. So if you get this game it will only be in asia so you will have to deal with ping, long waits and understanding time zones etc.
The only reason this game has such negative reviews on the English speaking side of the Western playerbase is because people gave up on this game a long while ago. It had the misfortune of coming out at a time where DbD was picking up enough steam on Steam (ha pun) to cement it's place as *the* asymmetrical 4v1 horror game to play by oneself or with friends. Combined with new game bugs, non-English display users not able to play, and people already skeptical to play it, it wasn't going to survive for long on the NA/EU servers. Not to mention that some game streamers and their followers, or people from the DbD community who were opposed to any different games other than DbD, didn't want to give this game a chance. They just saw that it was made by people in China and that the *basic bare bones mechanics* were the same.
Didn't matter that the game has changed so much since 2018, that the objectives play differently, that this isn't a chase game but an ambush type game were you have to THINK two steps ahead of your "enemy", just that it was "a DbD clone" made by "Chinese people". Maybe one day someone big or semi big will pick it up again and we'll get a sizable community, but this really is a game that does have potential but was shut off quickly for a large part because Western audiences couldn't relate to it and didn't really want to make the effort to play something other than DbD.

From April 2021:
It's 35gb's to install just to see if you can spend 15+ minutes to find a match to play the game anywhere but China. There is also a TON of paid DLC for outfits you'll never be able to use because you will never get into a match. I used to enjoy playing this game but I don't think the devs ever took community feedback seriously to try and make this game better.
It was fun while it lasted, but that was years ago.
a shameful scam, do noooooooooot buy it if u r nor in Asia. im gonna say cannot play almost 2 yrs, and try to connect someone, but the game publisher doesnt care about it. still selling it and cheating users without fixing any bugs in other areas. spend $18 buy a stupidddddddddddddd game
Dead game, at least in the NA-EU server. This one is empty, i don't know why but there are no players at all. It's the classical problem of almost all the chinese/asian games, because if you try to play in the ASIA server, you'll get 2.000 ping or more; so basically it's impossible for the europeans to play the game. Too bad, because this game has a lot of potential and it's a delusion that not everyone can enjoy it.
With the EU/NA release I had high hopes during the summer sale. But the EU/NA Server are almost dead because of some programming issues. If you want to play the game, you have to set up your Windows system language to English. Otherwise, the maps won't load.
Depending on from your geolocation, you could try Asian server, but in my case I had a ping between 500-1200 ms.
Unfortunately that's the reason why I have a game time of 1,3h, but a playtime of 0 minutes.
I cannot recommend the game for EU/NA players at the moment, unless you have some friends to play with. I couldn't test that by myself.
There is a HUGE Glitch for non Chinese Players, when you load into the Game, your in the Air,you cant move or Play, basically the Game is unplayable and the Developers not fixing this for over a Year now, they basically dont care. I had strong hopes, but i also got banned from the Community on Steam for saying my honest Opinion and for talking about these HUGE Glitches to the Developers. I got Banned on the Steam Community and also on Discord,for no Reason other than being honest. Highly recommend avoiding this Game if your not Chinese living in China / Japan . I hope this honest Review helps others and will not get deleted by the Developers.
Soul at Stake is a co-op, survival, asymmetrical horror game in which a devil hunts down gamblers and brutally slaughters them.
Gamblers need to work together to help each other escape by sealing five shrines/cardholders while getting chased by a devil.
Each character has their own special ability/perk, which is called "Cheat" in the game.
To fill up the shrines/cardholders you'll have to visit one of the 2 shops in the map to get the right cards.
You will be able to buy upgrade cards in the shop as well, those will give you special abilities or items which help you to escape and win your game.
The game is heavily inspired by Dead by daylight and looks similar, However, it needs a LOT of polishing!
The movement feels slow and clunky and the overall aesthetics look outdated.
With the EU server being beyond dead and the ASIA server being too laggy, I couldn't do much more than refund the game.
Firstly I love the cultural and historical aspect. It looks like the gamblers; the survivors in this game stepped out of 1930's China. While the maps feel also more ancient at times with things like a palace and a dyers district among other things.
The puzzling aspect with the cards and the orbs in cardholder shrines and the shop and item management, feels refreshing. Some see this game as a Dead by Daylight wannabe. They might have a similair set up at first sight. But to me Soul at Stake surprises positively.
The designs of the characters are apealing and intriguing. The mechanics of the devils; the killers in this game are also impressive. Like how the witch can turn people into cats and the phantom can turn into guises of gamblers and the drowner can create pools and if you get stuck in one, she puts you in a cage that runs full with water.
You have trumphs and cheats that you can offer before a match, this can also juggle gameplay scenario's. While leveling and doing quests you can also get free customisations. And while leveling your characters you can also get better personal trumphs for each character in due time. From me a bow and thumbs up!
I have been the translator of this game for about 6 months, and here are my honest comments about the game -
In general, this is a good game. The cultural background of the plot and the visual appearance are top notch. In terms of the gameplay, this game stands out as a different 1v4 asymmetrical horror game as the devils (killer) move slower than the gamblers (survivor). So in this game the devil must play a lot of mind games and complicated strategies, which is quite fun to explore.
However, please keep those in mind when you consider joining the game -
First, if you're based in Europe and your system language is not English or Chinese, please be warned that this game may have a serious blocking issue that prevents playing the game. As of today (7/10/19), the developer team has no plans of fixing this issue.
Second, please be advised this game's major audience is the Chinese market. The US-EU server (international market) is still a slowly growing community, and you will face long queuing time, or out-of-date contents because unfortunately US-EU server will not be the developer's highest priority.
Third, please keep in mind that the developer is a very young individual studio that has very limited resources to do optimization and game polishing. So you should expect to find glitches and bugs in the game.
This game may lead to frustration in the beginning, but I would strongly suggest that you give it a good 90-minute trail before requesting a refund. Also you may check out the discord community - folks there are generally quite helpful.
I no longer work for this game and will not update this review. I wish this game is going to make changes in the good directions.
This game is incredibly fun in trying each character, whether being a gambler or a devil, and establishing a good asymmetical play-style. It has a neat card mechanic, coins, and betting involved. You can earn currency to buy different outfits to change how you look and it's generally intriguing learning how to play. However, there is virtually no assistance for those on the EU/US server as far as player counts go. This game has been targeted for China since the very beginning and the EU/US players have been put on the backburner until around the 25th on June, when servers became available. There has been very little advertisement, it seems, and even during the 1st year event - it becomes frustrating to even try to become apart of it. So, is it fun? Yes. However, be aware that you will likely only find games for the EU/US servers at certain times of the day, if that.
Despite the devs being somewhat active on fixing bugs, I cant really recommend the game, since theres too many critical bugs out there. This includes a bug that makes the game sometimes not even able to select a server, or other bugs like always starting the match where your model stays in the map but your view is at the sky, making the game unplayable.
Soul at Stake is an oriental-themed asymmetrical, 4 Gamblers vs 1 Devil, multiplayer horror title. Not only are all of the aesthetics of the game based on Japanese culture, but so is much of the lore and urban legends. This concept does give the release a unique visual, especially in comparison to its surrounding competitors. At the time of writing, the game is in an Early Access state and is heading into it's first year anniversary. The amount of love and care that the developer has poured into Soul at Stake is obvious, just by the amount of patches, content updates, and even the inclusion of dedicated servers. With that said, it's unfortunate that this release still has far too many problems, and too small of a player base, to warrant a purchase at this time.
There are two equally major issues with the game at this time. For one, the player base is so small that you could easily spend 5, 10, or even 15+ minutes waiting for a match to fill up. This is especially daunting if you're a new player who is just trying to get the hang of things, but yet you're unable to practice and get better due to long wait times; not to mention, you'll probably be the first to die for a while, as with most games of this nature until one becomes decent. This leads to a lot of downtime, and in my short duration playing I was only able to get into one match.
The second problem is the insanely high ping for North American players. Since this game is based out of China, the only two dedicated servers reside in Hong Kong and Mainland China, thus resulting in an infuriatingly high ping. The highest I saw was 800~ms, and even in a game with 300~ms, the gameplay ended up being a headache-inducing slideshow despite the constant 60 FPS. I found that I could never land skill checks due to this ping, or perhaps it's the game itself.
Another weird quirk that Soul at Stake has that may turn off North American and European newcomers is how late into the game that you have to wait to actually change the language from Chinese to English, and how convoluted it is to do such since it's not presented on the main screen, but rather deeper into the menus. If you look in the Community Hub, there's a forum post detailing how to do this, but it also involves skipping the Gambler or Devil tutorial entirely; depending on which side you chose to explore first.
I really don't want to leave this review without saying something good about Soul at Stake, because it isn't necessarily a bad game; in its current state, it's just unfit for consumption outside of China. The amount of Gamblers and Devils to choose from is incredible for such a small time game. The visual aesthetics are a wonderful breath of fresh air in a genre that's defined by hack n' slash serial killers/movie icons/monsters. The gameplay is much faster than say, Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13th, and it's also a lot more in-depth. It takes a while to understand the mechanics and gambling system. Needless to say, Soul at Stake has promise. If the game can move in to North American and European homes more easily, it can definitely be a contender in the 4v1 market. However, until then, it's safe to say that only those from China should seek out this adventure.

It's really a good game.The rules of game is almost the same as the game Dead By Daylight,but there are still some differences between them.For example,in this,game,the hunter moves slower than the survivor.
It is really bloodcurdling.You can see the hunter kill the survivor in this game.However,There is a 'Bloody Setting',you can turn it off and after that,it won't be so scary.
Although this game is in demo,there are still bugs of course,the game is brilliant.I think,if you like playing Dead By Daylight or Identity V,you will like this game.

I did not get this game for free, I am not paid to give this review, I have not received any content for actively playing/using/streaming this game. This is my opinion on the game, therefore comments down below will not change said opinion for it's my own personal experience with the game, and what has shaped this review.
This game is not a chase simulator, it's for intelligent people to set up ambushes and entrap the gamblers.

Explaination
So let me speak on the pros first. The game does a really good job of setting up the spooky atomsphere of the game without forcing the person playing killer to try to set up the scares/horrors for the entire match like in Dead by Daylight. There is ambient sounds, the environment around you moves, and stuff just randomly happens if you linger a bit too long just to put you on edge and keep you looking around yourself, which is something that the competitors do not actively have going for them.
The game is overall fun, spooky, and interactive. You are putting cards in a card holder just like you're starting gens but you actually need your allies for it gets progressively harder and killer/devil sided with the more allies you lose but it's still possible to win. With that said this entire game has the gamblers moving faster than devil but the devil has the ability to set up ambuses to get hits on the gamblers to gain their stakes. Soul at Stake is a slower pace, intelligence focused take on asym horror genre. It will not be for everyone.
Because of this Soul at Stake doesn't feel frustrating or mindlessly straight forward as Dead by Daylight Soul at Stake does have a slight learning curve however for those that have invested a lot of time into Dead by Daylight. But the game is imbalanced on purpose with the devil being stronger intentionally, and it's not overbearingly stronger. The devils don't feel overpowered at all. If anything they feel like they are at the right powerlevel for their respective powers. Prince having no terror radius, Corpus having mobility, and Bride being able to make clones and teleport to her clones.
Now to the Cons.
Due to the devs of the game not marketing the game because they want to fix bugs, and make sure that everything is working properly before bringing people in (props to the devs for doing that btw most devs would have just thrown the game out there and told us to deal with it) wait times can be absurbly long. There's low population on US East except for around 2pm EST - 10pm EST-ish. But if you don't mind and just want to play a few matches to unwind I do highly suggest you pick up Soul at Stake. If you're kind of like me and you're looking for a game that you can just mindlessly grind in and get back to back matches even when you open the game up at 4am, please do not be disappointed when you don't find people playing at that time. Now as a plus if you join their discord and ask in the looking for group chat people are willing to jump into a match with you even at 4 am, so there's that!
Unlimited dodges right now are in the game, and as soon as gamblers begin to figure things out they can keep the devil at bay for awhile. Maybe they will change that in a future update.
Now for my biggest gripe in the game: The Bell
It is probably the most unbalanced (in a bad way) mechanic in the game and the only thing that makes me consider not playing for a few days. It is an item that stops all movement for gamblers for around 7s, which for people that play FPS's or actually any other game where reaction is key, standing in one spot for 7S not able to do anything besides get stabbed by a lunatic with a knife can be very irritating. The counters to the Bell is to either teleport out immediately if you know he has it or heal after getting hit. Both options require you to have stake generation, but if the devil's stake generation is higher than yours due to teammates or yourself getting hit early, then the bell gives a for sure down via hit bell and then hit right after and the devil will have a bell before you even have a shrine done. The devil can also give a multitude of bells across the map. Five bells from the shop where the gamblers only have a total of three heals for four gamblers.
Also when all the gamblers but one is dead they can get a free random item from the shop that includes the bell in a 1v1 situation.
But overall if you don't mind either playing during the US East prime time, or the bell in it's current state, I do recommend and strongly suggest you give this game a chance. Gl hf, and have a nice day.
Alright, I recommend this game, but not in early access.
it's quite like Dead by daylight. But it got some new idea. Is good but not good enough. Terrible match system, terrible optimise, terrible Anti-Cheat and most important stiff action.

At the time of writing this review I have 40 hours in the game.
I am rank 1 which is the highest rank in the game and have played since launch day. I instantly really liked the game and refreshing take on a asymmetrical horror game.
I have over 3,200 hours in dead by daylight and can say that this is a refreshing new take on a dbd similar game.
No pallet looping, no ds, and a clear set of rules for win or lose. If one gambler lives, they all win. It’s an all or nothing game.
The main downside of the game is the que times as it’s just starting out can sometimes be long depending on your region. China has a lot of players but if you’re in us you can wait 5-10 mins late at night for games.
It helps that I’m a streamer so a lot of my viewers will play at the same time as me but for others it will be a issue until the game becomes more popular.. which I sure hope it does.
The game is fun and rewarding. We need more killers and perks but that’ll all happen in time as far as release goes in ea it’s worth trying out.
Having played 1700+ hours of Dead by Daylight, this is a nice refreshing experience in the same genre. Fresh new gameplay mechanics with the cards that you have to use on the seals and make it go up to 21 to seal it, Devil being able to teleport to the seals (generators if you've played DbD), dodging mechanic for Gamblers, and the stores where you can buy one of three items to hold and use. The Devil is slower then the Gambler, but the Devil can teleport to seals to cut them off, and can use their ability/items to help them catch up. Devs are pushing updates daily for bug fixes and whatnot which is great to see.
That being said, it's still in early access. There's bugs and I'm sure there will be more maps, items, devils, and gamblers in the future. Oh and right NOW there's not many players, unless you change region to US-Los Angeles or China-Beijing for your steam download region. Highly recommended even in early access!

An excellent game for who is in-love with dead by daylight kind of genre, but bored of the boring loop and Mouse 1 simulator gameplay, here is an excellent game with unique mechanics, I can easily say it is more polished than dead by daylight's current state, optimization wise, and everything you can think of, survivors are strong as well, killer is slower than survivors, so do not expect dead by daylight gameplay to run around all day, as i have mentioned, this is totally unique. Just give it a try, you might like it a lot, just like I did. The only problem is not too many people playing it right now, due to no advertisement I guess? (I don't know) other than that, having a blast so far! In both roles, devils/gamblers.

very good game. it's need more players tho. it's a chinese dead by daylight. however survivors are stronger than the killer. they are faster and can find 3 different items in the map, or purchased from the store in game level. 3 items are a stealth, health use, and random teleport.
the goal of the game is match match 21 in total to 5 shrines using 3 random cards. think black jack 21 but use any combination to reach that. now the store sells you 3 items mention above and gives you access to cards to take max 3 to carry and max 1 item to carry. most important thing to remember is green lanterns indicate store inside(statue).
currently 4 survivors 2 male 2 female and 3 killers with 4th coming sometime in the future.
