JUST CAUSE 4
About the Game
Your world...Your rules! In Just Cause, you are a Latin field operative and specialist in regime change backed by top secret US government agency who will overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. The rogue South American state is suspected of stockpiling Weapons of Mass Destruction, and it's your mission to negate the threat this poses to world peace. It could be to your advantage that the tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignments however you want: playing the island's factions against one another, inciting a rebellion among the masses and building alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. The action takes place in an incredibly detailed game world which consists of over 250,000 acres of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages. The island can be explored by land, sea and air, as you will have at your disposal one of the most varied and exciting array of vehicles ever seen in a video game.
Freeform game-play: approach missions in any way you like, or break off from the fight and enjoy exploring the islands.
Over 250K acres of land to explore: the largest environment ever seen in a game!
Over-the-top Stunts: jump from vehicle-to-vehicle, parasail, skydive and base-jump...
Massive selection of vehicles: over 100 of the most varied, exciting array of land, sea and air vehicles ever seen in a video game.
Avalanche Engine™: procedurally generated landscape delivers a huge, beautiful, detailed world while eliminating loading times.
Wealth of missions: story missions, side-missions, bonus missions and many more; ensuring plenty of action spread throughout the islands.
Support team: Sheldon and Kane, two US government secret agents, will provide you with reconnaissance info, extraction and vehicle drops.

Game doesn't work, don't buy. OH and steam won't give you a refund either, even though you haven't played it long enough. FUCK STEAM. scamming bastards!
This game is great. I love playing the game so much. I hope steam fix just cause 2. But just cause 1 is so fun.
pretty gosh darn fun
stuck on load screen, can't play on windows 10, 2070 rtx, ryzen 6 core, 32gb ram
Skip to 2 and 3, Visually, it looks impressive for 2006 game, but the gameplay is just straight up garbage.
No.
I tried. I really tried.
However, I'd played Just Cause 2 first and this one just doesn't hold up. It is extremely dated and the user interaction feels wrong.
With that said, if you really want to give it a go, catch it on a sale. It's super cheap right now.
However, I'd say to completely skip it and go and buy Just Cause 2 right now as it's also super cheap!
It is a best sandbox type game highly recommend, i know some missions might make u lose ur patience but if u manage to figure out how to complete it u will enjoy this game, it will be worth it at the end .
Unplayable garbage. You're better off pirating this shit because the fucking drop-off cars won't move.
Edit: If this bug happens, cap to 60 FPS.
Ok... TO BE FAIR, its the first one in the series so the I can forgive some mishaps...
Graphics were great for that time but COME ON! It's time for a remaster, update the controller PLEASE!
Story - not enough played, but it feels off... no real background for relationships.
Gameplay - standard for the series...
Price - GET IT WHILE ITS ON SALE!
On a note of idea(s)... Rico is young, but how did he come to meet Sheldon and the Agency? What is the Agency? Could someone consider making a game about the time period when this guy was growing up into a full fledged warrior from just a hatchling?
Nostalgic game to me. This is the game which lead to whole series of the just cause. If you wanna experience what first just cause game is, or you wanna play it to feal nostalgic, go for it. If dont, i wouldnt reccomend to buy this game
You can skip it tbh. it's not that great. it's got way too much PS2 jank it's not even fun anymore.
just watch all cutscenes on youtube and you're ready to play JC2
this game has the Best soundtrack
Good action game, but very hard at certain points.
This is the most difficult recommend/not-recommend I write. So, in the hope of coming to a solid decision, let's continue with the review first.
Starting with the story. Absolute joke. And somehow, it feels intentional. But the almost-parody nature of action-hero story feels to be trying to laugh at the action-hero tropes, while embodying the worst aspects of such tropes. It is basically a simple story about helping rebels overthrow a dictatorial regiment. A lot of games have done it. Some popular games on top of my head are the recent disappointing Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon Wildlands etc. However, a non-original story isn't necessarily a bad one. This is not the case for this game though. There are no stakes, or more particularly - the story can't build any stake. The characters are egregiously shallow. The ladies - Maria Kane, Esparanza and Imma-whatshername (the red dress wife of the gangster) are all nothing but eye-candies. I am all for eye-candies, but they need something more for them to be memorable. The male characters like Tom Sheldon, Jose, el presidente Salvador or our protagonist Rico are as shallow due to their religious allegiance to the tropes they represent. And then again, this was not he main draw of the game. And I am usually very lenient on the story when it isn't the main draw, this game messes it up so bad that it actively brings my attention to it. So that wasn't enjoyable during a non-negligible part of my playthrough.
The gameplay is what is supposed to draw players in. And I found it extremely fun...for a while. The core gameplay of brainless shooting, coupled with pretty dynamic vehicular combat was pretty fun. However, the set pieces that populate the world are extremely one note without variety. That gives very little diversity in actual gameplay and that sores down the experience within the first playthrough itself. In the very few situations where there are vehicular set-pieces, I found that a lot of fun can be had with the game. Replicate such gameplay outside of the main storyline is extremely difficult and isn't worth setting up due to the lack of vehicle density in the world - which is kind of a unique problem I came across. But when the action pops off, it really pops off.
I guess that's all I want to say about the game. Do I recommend it? I don't think so. Play from the second game onwards I guess. I don't remember the game from my childhood even if it is one of the games I still have the og disk preserved.
I'll give this a 4/10. Is this an unpopular pinion to have? I don't know.
Still fun to this day. Missions are quick but the story is fair, mainly just playing for the lore. Buy when discounted.
Edit: Just skip all the side missions they are the most repetitive thing in any game I have ever played, WORSE THAN ASSASSINS CREED 1!
Don't look at the release date. Just do it.
Not bad. Its exactly like Just Cause 2 but slower and harder to look at. I do think this is one of the more impressive Ps2 games as the maps are large with tons and tons of missons. The fights so far are more scripted. In 2, you would just blow up everything with a flag on it. I do think your getting a lot of bang for your buck but if you do have the newer ones, theyre really no reason to get this. I am shocked by how sexual this game is consider the time it came out. Anyways good but you should really just get the newer ones. Also this game takes up more space than 2 which is pretty insane.
Infinite enemy spawning
anyone make a rtx remix to this legend
You might be mislead by the age and graphics of the game, but it is a really fun game. Note, only buy it when on sale, I bought it for a dollar, and it's a good game for the price point. Good for low end PC's, and still a good game.
this game's map is probably bigger than gta 6 map, and this thing ran on the ps2. THE FREAKING PS2
here's a message for your pals back home, STAY THERE
Great game for low-end pc
The game is just very bad in a every way possible lmao
terriblee
While I could see the game being fun it was buggy and I couldn't fix it.
Nostalgia Level +100
fub' fun*
❤️❤️❤️

Pew pew.
you can deffinently see the just cause roots here.
this game from 2006 has the most realistic helicopter landing i've ever seen in any video game ever
good
this game fun, didnt pull parachute on first mission
It's not a bad game but there's a problem I can't save my data and I can't even go to option fix your game.
u
new favorite game. 10/10 long term 8/10 game play 6/10 graphics 10/10 mechanics. overall 9/10
Fun older game, plays well, would recommend the entire game series. The just cause series has huge open maps, many missions to complete, and so much more for you to do. 10/10 hands down
peak
paste this into launch parameters for just cause for the highest quality experience in my opinion
/windowed /width=1280 /height=960
windowed because the game will be stretched and ugly if fullscreen
the 1280 x 960 part is to correct the developers oversight. Old games are 4:3 which is why they only have 4:3 resolutions to choose from. However there is one 5:4 resolution listed inside this games options that is 1280x1024. this might be a mistake because 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect ratio and will slightly stretch your game (you can test it with screenshots, with any proper 4:3 resolution your minimap circles will be perfect circles, but if you choose 1280x1024 they become slightly oblate, because the game is being slightly warped to fit the abnormal 5:4 aspect ratio)
i googled it, the only reason 1280x1024 exists is because they were common in tv's in the early 2000s
look on the wikipedia of screen resolutions, 1280x1024 is listed ALONE in the 5:4 category with no other resolutions, interesting.
1280x960 is a correct 4:3 resolution and im shocked its not included in the options.
oh and did you know "just cause" does not mean just because?
"She stopped traffic to save four puppies, i would say that was a just cause"
🥱
No.
I really love the Just Cause franchise but I just couldn't play this game like others.
-There is no saving option, you have to finish a main task and afterwards game asks if you wanna save it or not. If you die while in the main task you have to restart from a while back which sucks most of the time cuz fights and long roads are just not worth it.
-Driving is a bit sketchy, after getting some speed vehicles become weightless hence they kinda start flying and become unstable.
-Your own Agent vehicles get stuck in the ground which sucks again since now you have to go to a main road to carjack which means a ton of walking mostly.
-Side missions have no meaning no story no nothing you just go around shooting stuff, I mean it would be fun if it was like Just Cause 3 but the reasons above make it a chore.
-Grappling gun is sketchy you can only use it on vehicles which there ain't much mostly expect crowded places like cities but map is mostly consisting of intercity roads, and it is difficult to use as you might expect from a 2006 game.
So I watched the storyline on youtube and just dropped the game, If you wanna give it a shot do it but don't expect much from it
An absolutely horrendous experience.
This game will frustrate you in every way possible. From not being able to alt tab, to not being able to save until you complete a main story mission. Doesn't matter how many side missions you have done, if you don't do a main mission you can't save the game. (Unless you basically unlock it, then you have to go all the way to a safehouse to save anyway. If you die, be ready to lose progress.) The driving, the grappling hook, basically everything is broken in this game. I am trying to force myself to beat it for the sake of hoping i eventually find something positive, but story wise so far you can start on 2 and you won't miss anything.
Make sure to change your properties on steam to your resolution using the prompt provided below (set the numbers to whatever your specific resolution is.) Doing so will allow you to enjoy this mess of a game a little bit more.
/width=1920 /height=1080.
If your new to this series and want to try it, start on any game in this series besides this one.
If you played a different just cause and want to see how the story, and or how the series began...
I recommend not wasting your time and sanity like i am.
This franchise best to worst...
Just Cause 2 (Best Story & Map.)
Just Cause 3 (Overall Most Fun.)
Just Cause 4 (Has Tornandos...)
Just Cause 1 (Is A Tornado.)
Telling you this just cause i can.
It's really not a very good game. The gameplay is repetitive, the side missions are fetch quests (so also repetitive), the story is . . . minimal, if I'm being kind, and while it's still rather addicting despite the tedium, some sadistic, thoughtless jack*ss thought it would be a good idea to use a checkpoint save system in a massive open world game, so most of your time will be spent repeating the same boring mission over an over. Oh, and you can't save at all if you're on a main mission, even at one of your safe houses. So stupid. Also, there is zero reason to explore this world. You can't interact with the inhabitants, you can't enter or interact with the buildings, you can't interact with the wildlife because there is none, you can't really do anything except move from one pre-populated waypoint to another, doing one of only a handful of things over an over and over, listening to some of the worst environmental sound design I've ever heard in a AAA game.

Buy and play if you're a fan of Just Cause series or want to see where the franchise begins, otherwise skip. It is buggy, glitchy and illogical, but at least it gave us Just Cause 2 and eventually Just Cause 3, so there's that. As for my playtime being 1.6 hours - well, I couldn't take it any longer with all of Rico's attempts to die at his earliest convenience from almost anything you can encounter in the game.
i mean its decent i had to install a mod to get full screen but was worth it, I got it to work on controllers not 100% have to use the keyboard to quit the game, but if you like older games i suggest you try this.
also why is the grapple hook so a unbelievably terrible, you can only use it on a car.
but in all is the hassle worth it no
GTA on an island with a focus on politics/factions. It is fun, BUT :
Not horrible at first but not particularly good or interesting. I was a bit curious to see if the game would improve and it did until it got much worse again and I quit.
1) Big event : when I played the cocaine truck theft mission and failed it twice, I instantly uninstalled the game. Reinstalled it a few hours later to try again and it wasn't so bad after all but even after beating the mission quite easily, I can say that the game is badly designed (too simplistic).
- In that mission, if you decide to ignore the cars shooting at you, you will fail the mission by getting blown up. If you leave your truck to get rid of the enemies, more cars will show up 15 seconds later. My point is that there isn't really a way to strategize in this game and the gunplay is not bad but also very simple. It kind of takes the fun out of the game. In other games where shooting is at the center, either combat itself will be more complicated and interesting OR the strategies you employ will be. In any case, Just Cause is not bad, but it's clunky and in 2024, you can easily find other games that are similar and better. Just Cause 2 is apparently better so I'll try that one eventually.
2) *** *** Big event #2 *** *** : now that mission is miserable. It's a mission where you gotta kill a man followed by a convoy. Turns out he's already reached his destination and after already spending some time reaching the '' first target '', you have to drive on a dirt mountain for literally 10-20 minutes and where the driving is so bad that I would say it's almost unbearable and unplayable. I ended up dying after being shot at by the helicopters and all the enemy soldiers for these 15-20 minutes. That mission was so poorly designed (the main issue really is the driving though) that it made me give up. Good bye Just Cause.
Rest of my review :
The game has obviously aged a lot (not talking about graphics), but it's not unplayable. One of the other problems is how long it takes to travel to missions/locations even though there are ways to travel faster. Could be worse, but it doesn't help.
Driving is exciting when at high speed, but only when going in a straight line. Doesn't control well when trying to steer left or right. Basically, the driving is stiff and it's too easy to lose control of your vehicle. It results in funny situations though (when cops charge into your car for example).
Aiming and controls are kinda clunky. Sometimes you receive aim assist (when on a vehicle with a machine gun) and it's way too easy. Sometimes you don't and it's hard to aim if the enemy moves.
- Gunplay is mediocre but satisfying I guess. The physics of the bodies make shooting at enemies satisfying and funny. Enemies die quickly as well so that helps.
- Enemies almost miss every shot they take at you and the AI is OK. Worse AI than GTA 4. I didn't play GTA 3 or Vice City so IDK about those and I don't remember the AI in San Andreas.
Like I already said, there is not much strategy in how to play the game. For example, if you decide to do something really stupid, you'll get yourself killed probably. Otherwise, I doubt you'll die if you're an OK gamer. Other example : liberation missions are basically you blowing up a few walls and shooting a few people. It's just too simple and not that interesting. Not bad, but just not good either.
Cutscenes dialogues and characters are all right.
Switching weapons at the Safehouse is badly made and confusing - the HUD doesn't help.
***Other details : this game is crazy! While doing side missions for a guerilla faction, there's an helicopter following me + cops telling me '' stop right there citizen - this is the policia '' constantly and literally firefights going on everywhere, cars blowing up everywhere, sound bugs as well I think?... This game is a mess lol. ***Also, some of the side missions I start end before I even reach the location of the mission because the target gets killed before I even reach it lol.
- Unnecessary amounts of short and easy side missions
Map is way too big for no reason
