Operation Sheep Defense is a tower defense game. Your mission is to protect sheep from enemies. The enemy will try to capture these sheep. Fight off the enemy with defensive turrets.
Unique Game Mechanics
Each level takes around 6 minutes. Progression is fast and there are no boring moments. The number of enemy units can be huge, later levels can have over 3000 units that enter the level in under 6 minutes.
Levels are dynamic, the enemy will use bulldozers to create new roads. Enemy behaviour is not scripted, every unit and bullets is simulated.
Gameplay
You will need every tactic you can think of, because the enemy can be very intelligent! Instead of simply choosing the shortest path, they will try to avoid towers. They will even build new roads using bulldozers. Every level will require a different approach. The game has over 80 balanced levels. Levels vary from large open areas, levels with multiple entrances, mazes and small fast paced levels.
Place your towers at tactical positions in each level. In open areas you can shape the path that the enemy will have to take to get to the sheep. Upgrade towers to make them stronger. If a sheep has been captured, the enemy has to escape with the sheep. You still have some time to take the enemy down.
There are seven different towers you can build. Each tower has its own strengths and weaknesses. Build small cannons for early defense. Small cannons are cheap to build but not very effective. Build the gattling gun to fight off stronger enemies. The gattling gun is more effective against all kinds of enemies. The rocket launcher does great damage to larger units and bosses. The fastest enemies can be stopped best using the laser tower. To make all towers more effective, use the slowdown tower to stall enemies. The flame thrower can be used against large enemy groups. Finally, you can use the big gun, which is slow but incredibly powerful and can target almost the entire map.
Multiplayer
There is local multiplayer which you can play on a single screen or tv. Play the entire campaign in coop mode, or play one of the coop missions. Many levels are adjusted and rebalanced for coop mode. For controls, choose between mouse, keyboard or any connected gamepad. The economy can be shared, individual or reversed between players.

Sadly I can't play the game. Everything except the hud is black. What a waste of my money!

Avoid at all costs!
In many ways it is the typical sub-standard tower-defense game that Steam seems to have so many of. The enemies are lackluster, the towers are bland, and the game play repetitive.
But somehow this is even worse.
The music, for one thing, really drags the game down, with it's plodding beat.
But that can be turned off. More to the point, the options for the player are slim. A handful of stock basic towers, with no way to control their preferences, and three levels of upgrade with no variety or choices to be made.
There are no tactical options at all, a grave lack. A good tower defense game should never have the player sitting there watching, with nothing much to do.
And the most interesting unit in the game, the bulldozer, can make any pathing you might have made obsolete, given the tiny maps and limited places you can place towers.
That said, it does all seem to work, on a good sale you wouldn't kick yourself, I paid ninety nine cents, and even that is a bit of a stretch to be honest.
ADDENDUM: I continued playing, and actually found some interesting depth to the games. The AI on the foes is pretty canny, dodging guns and actually going against the directional arrows if it is a short cut, something I did not expect.
I did begin to find something worth playing though, and was considering changing my review when I hit level 17, and it was a dead stop. I have tried a dozen times, and I have been playing TD games for over a decade now so I kind of know what I am doing, but it seems impossible. I have gotten to the point where I can set up a reasonable defense, some pathing stretching out the route, and big guns where I need them, then the foes become an unstoppable flow. so numerous that nothing can stop them.
And you know what? That's a deal breaker for me. Too early in the game to get that hard.

This is an underrated gem that's well-worth the $1.99 I paid for it. I've had this game for over a year. The later levels are challenging enough that it takes some thought and multiple tries to beat them. I *still* have yet to complete the last 3 levels in the extended campaign. If you're a tower defense fan like me, you should buy this game.
Good tower defense game - nicely balanced and challenging (to save all sheeps)!
Fun at first, but there's nothing to keep your interest for over 80 levels: no new upgrades, towers, enemies. The game prioritizes length over compelling content. What's in it isn't bad, but I can't picture anyone actually playing through every level since it just becomes tedious after awhile. I got over half way through and have little interest in completing it. Haven't played any co-op.
Consider this review neutral. Buy it on sale if you are interested.

Seriously, though, this is a truly well done entry in the tower defense genre and it will make you rethink your strategy more than once. It has almost a puzzle-like approach to some levels and introduces some new elements as well.
For a price this low, I actually feel like I ripped off the developer.

A nice game. Not too easy and with well thought out units and levels. For just 2 bucks this gives a lot of playtime and is a nice tower defense game.

A real easy-entry, and fast paced tower defense game. Biggest plus is the support for several different and fun co-op modes, which is a rare thing in tower defense games.
