I played this game as a kid back on the Ps3. I spent days of in game time playing it and i will likely do the again. its a very well balanced 3D Tower defense game. with great mechanics for hero's, pet, weapons and gear. If you like a grind and working for better gear to become the ultimate defender Dungeon Defenders is the game for you.

Mostly a fun game.
Some problems like tool-tips not actually getting the info from the stats of a tower it'self. This is the way to go so that tool-tips always work right with all mods/updates. Would not be such a problem but... IF you check the patch notes the Hermits Golem's tower heal aura was changed from every 3 sec to every 5 sec- the tool-tip was never changed and still says 3 sec! Who knows what else has wrong information on it.
This information kinda continues in the form of no real info on maps. Every map and challenge gives certain rewards under certain conditions. This includes items directly to your storage as well as for sale in the tavern. This is after EVERY map completion. So 'Activate Crystal to Proceed to Next Level' you do only to quickly sale all items on the ground, THEN you have to leave the map and go see if anything useful popped up for sale. Set rewards are not listed, a decent map may take close to an hour to do, more time on survival, just to see IF the map gives anything useful to you or the store. Even then you need to redo the map, on all difficulties, and modes with all class types multiple times (some maps have multiple set rewards possible) equaling a ton of hours spent to just find out there is nothing useful from that map/challenge.
These set rewards sometimes have special stats. Like lifesteal, tower boost etc. These special stats are not listed on the item, there is no in-game info on these stats. You will most likely not use the best item for your char unless you want to spend more time on the wiki than actually playing(wiki is not supported by the devs and is sparse with often misleading or no info at all).
Another hidden stat: weapon attack speed. This can very pretty greatly. Combined with random weapon size(attack reach) this can be such a let down.
Set rewards and random generated items can spawn with useless stats. I don't mean stats you don't want- or even the negative stats. I simply mean stats that are at say 125 range increase on a monk guardian, after 40 there is no bonus. The game does not tell you these caps. You may well spend hours to buff something that does nothing simply because the game does not tell you. Summoner's flash heal tops out at just above 2k, no more % heal gained after that. No info in the game on this, the stat does not change color to indicate maxed usefulness or anything. You may well keep increasing your flash heal or something else you use and like to not actually achieve anything for those hours spent.
Some game functions do not work right. You can split screen even as 1 player and play multiple chars. Hitting F8 is supposed to full screen the current char you are on. It does not. Only the first char that you may not even be controlling atm. Eventually you will have 3 extra summoners with Guardian pets to make your towers all super, or simply all with 2 dps pets and holding a critical point. This means to effectively play solo you will need at least 1 dlc.
DLC... If you want to be decent in the game you will need these. Paywall chars, items, maps. You will not know if the map is even useful to you, drops are not listed. All maps are listed in the game EVEN if you do not own them. Most not worth owning.
Maps: few. Challenges are just the same maps redone with different spawns etc. My guess is there are about 40 maps if we count the repeats. Half that if we do not. "Each level has a different visual setting" is a plain lie. Over 100 hours of play and not max level yet and only like 20 real maps to do it in. You can download maps from the workshop, most are just cheats many with hidden set rewards that may break the fun you could have by no longer having any need to replace an overpowered item. Avoid these.
Is this game worth it? Compared to the price of others for the fun I did have, yes.
Can I have max fun solo? Not really.
Long term solo game? Prob not.
If I brag about my progress to others that have played this game will I be cool?!? That's a negative. Older game, not very difficult- more like time wasted playing it.
Does weed mix well with playing this game? Yes, until only Nightmare Hardcore difficulty is the only thing worth doing. Then the timer sucks, can't even look at all the gear that drops.
Kid friendly? Yes, no bad words. Local (offline) play. If you have a controller you can even play with them and get schooled.
Good game. It's fun but leveling up characters is a bit tedious. There's official support for controller emulation, but there should be a way to switch the current POV to them without forcing split-screen. None of the DLCs are necessary, but I decided to buy them all to support development. Hopefully, someday, the devs will be able to create a competent successor to this game.
i used to grind this game after coming home from school on my 360. playing it again just feels even funner than before, thats why this has to be one of my fav games due to the fact that no matter how long its been, i still feel the beautiful feeling of genuine excitement while playing.

I'm a "newer" player starting in roughly 2020. I've always loved tower defense games and RPG games. This game combines both concepts and is even MULTIPLAYER!
The game is most enjoyable under the guidance of someone with experience.
Of all dungeon defender games, this one is the one with the most content and no bulls*. There is so much content to enjoy and it is incredibly, still in development today. Thanks to a lovely small community that has a lot of love for the game.
Honestly, not only is the game amazing, but so is the community.
Now so much for the base game and DLCs.
Then there's redux, a "beta" that was sadly abandoned. I personally only play redux, especially since you can't even move event items back to live. Painful, but the game is amazing nonetheless.
Redux has sooo much more content and rebalancing that the live gamemode still lacks today. Until it catches up in content, I'm a redux player that hopes redux will be picked up again.
This game is meant to be played with friends.
When this game originally came out on XBL, I was ADDICTED.
Something so FUN about collecting the trophies and trading weapons among your friends.

This one of if not the best tower defence game there is. i think its up there with bloons tower defense shame it doesnt have the crazy player count it did on release but still gets new content and updates all the time
I was thinking of giving this game another whirl and then I saw the "Presidential" DLC and that sealed the decision to just remove it from my steam library. Hope it was worth it!
Good game
There is something so fundamentally beautiful about the art style and game play of this first game that is entirely lost throughout the rest of the series, there is a level of charm and polish in Dungeon Defenders that will never again be replicated by Trendy or any tower defense game to exist. Playing Dungeon Defenders at random intervals through the years has proven to me what a fantastic game it is and what true passion for a project looks like, and at this point you scarcely get to see anymore in the gaming industry. This game is truly a relic and a memento of the golden age of gaming and an easy recommend for anyone. Though it's charm and appeal may be lost as a first time player in the current day it's certainly still worth a play through especially with friends.
Childhood game that I still enjoy from time to time. The best times were on Xbox 360 when someone would join your game with a modded weapon that took up half of your screen in size.

One of the best games i ever played.
Pros
+ Unique blend of genres: It's a fun mix of tower defence and action RPG, where you can build elaborate defences and then jump into the fray yourself.
+ Co-op fun: Playing with friends is where it's at. Teamwork makes the dream work in defending against hordes of enemies.
+ Lots of content: The game has a good amount of levels, characters, and loot to keep you busy.
Cons
- Repetitive: The core gameplay loop, while fun, can get repetitive after a while. You're essentially doing the same thing over and over again, just with different maps and enemies.
- Grind heavy: Getting the best gear and maxing out your characters can require a significant grind.
- Balancing issues: Some characters and towers are significantly stronger than others, leading to a lack of build diversity.
- Dated graphics: The visuals haven't aged particularly well.
Hands down one of the best games i have ever played, and continue to play it despite it being out for so long because this game still receives development with updates and DLC despite its' age.
The game is smooth, it plays well. The sheer amount of content in the game can keep you busy for hundreds of hours, and it's fun to try new ideas for beating challenging maps/modes.

I love this game ever since I got it for free on the Xbox 360.
The PC version is just as fun with a lot more content with all of it's DLCs that you can buy for 50 dollars, but the only issues I'm having with this game at the moment is all the voice acting for the character selection screen feels really scuffed, like almost all the characters have different voice actors explaining their lore.
Hopefully they can go back and re-do the DLC Character voice actors, but keep the main 4 as the original VA.

OG Dungeon Defenders is always a good game
unlike DDA and DDGR, its not abandoned and actively receiving updates. its not plagued by microtransactions, insane difficulty scaling or gacha rerolling to promote purchasing gems(im looking at DD2). while yes the game is grindy (for beating it, less than DD2 with a clearly defined end) i find that enjoyable since atleast in the early game, you switch armor and gain abilities quickly. the time limit and switching in the forge provides a good challenge and the individual hero leveling makes split screen coop characters feel like your own (mostly just annoying, but its fine, takes like an hour from 1-100 with tinks). good game, love the graphics. community and events are still alive, just dont accept hacked items and dont be a hacker.

Greatest tower defense game of all time IMO
Very fun tower defense-arpg hybrid. You can sink plenty of hours in this game. When my friend first showed it to me when I was a teenager, I thought it looked dumb. Then we spent the next three nights playing it non-stop.
I don't find it particularly fun. I bought it because it has local co-op to play with my wife. Together it was OK but I wouldn't play it on my own.
Recently got back into this game playing with friends (who are newbs) and it sure is nice. I think this is only steam game I have 60+ hours in

Its a good game but DO NOT BUY ANY DLC!!! The morons that call them devs had the genious decision to put another required challange to unlock the skins... Fucking idiots IF I BUY A DLC SKINS I NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE THEM NO MATTER CHALLANGE!!! iTS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE ON SOME SKIN WHEN THERE ARE NO ONE THAT PLAYS THESE SPECIFIC CHALLANGES.
They added Trump as a paid DLC character.
So for some reason, the devs decided to release a 2024 presidential election DLC. Featuring skins of Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Abraham Lincoln, and...Elon Musk.
They claim they don't endorse any candidate, yet they made kamala look cartoonishly stupid, and trump look relatively normal. Fairly obvious that they do endorse someone; and unfortunately, it's the wrong person.
Trump himself is a disgusting human being. Trying to overthrow the government in a coup, instigating an insurrection, doing nothing to stop a pandemic and getting 400,000 people needlessly killed, actively colluding with Russia to destabilize north america and ukraine, and enabling a cult of violent, angry followers to do whatever harm they'd like to regular people minding their own business. Putting him in this game is equivalent to putting putin or hitler in. I'm aware people are sick of the hitler comparisons, but seriously; go look up how hitler came into power. He tried to overthrow a government, went to prison, came out a few years later on good behavior, and became a dictator. The comparison isn't hyperbole.
Not only is Elon Musk not a president; he's an overgrown manchild who could not possibly be any more useless or stupid. But he's also not a president, and thankfully, never will be. Why he's included here is beyond me. It's like giving a spotlight to that one five year old at mcdonald's who wouldn't stop screaming or yelling at anyone who isn't a straight white man. Conveniently, he's also colluding with Russia.
Don't get this game. Your money would get better use stacked up as bricks laying the foundation of an outhouse. Support some better devs.
I used to play this game all the time on Xbox 360. It was the one game my dad and I bonded over. I always describe this game as "A tower defense game mixed with RuneScape graphics and FPS mechanics" I may have bought all the DLC for this game and it always brings a smile to my face and fills my brain with dopamine every wave. plus funny costumes lol

Easy to learn game with endless hours of fun, and able to play several different ways to choose suited for your preferred play style.
A very nostalgic game for me takes me back to the 360 days just wish all the DLC was at a cheaper price

Even a decade later DD1 is still a good game. Fun solo or with friends. Though it is easier with friends on the harder difficulties. The new difficulty is a little stupid. The problem you will run into as a new player is that none of the tools for this game still work. The DDDK is broken. So no new maps or mods. They broke the total conversion a long time ago. So what ever you find for mods and maps is all you will ever get.
