Best tower defense game with first person shooter aspects that I know of. Build metal towers and kill goblins? orcs? as an archer, monk, knight, wizard etc. Lots of fun, especially in local multiplayer (in my opinion this game isn't great with randoms online) Most of my play time was back on PS3. I recently downloaded it on steam to see if it would work with steam deck as I feel it's a great couch split screen game.
STEAM DECK functionality,
despite saying 'unsupported' I decided to give it a chance.
To get it to boot you need to go into the config -> properties -> general -> launch options. In the 'enter modification to launch options' put in -nolauncher
that will let it boot. The only other issue you'll run into are the times a keyboard would be needed. If playing from a controller, there isn't a convenient way to do the keyboard things such as naming items (when they are maxed) or naming a new character. The way I decided to side step these issues is to pick the randomly generated name I like the most out of the game options and I simply don't rename items. You could pick up the steam deck itself and use it's on screen keyboard option or probably connect a keyboard to your steam deck if you really wanted to.
The summoner (if you get the DLC to have him) is definitely a bit tricky to play with using a controller but to my surprise everything about him works. One odd thing about him if you are playing local spit screen is he needs to be player 1 in order to use his overlord mode. Odd to me as it doesn't affect the other local player's screen when its turned on.
almoist as fun as bloaloons tower defesne 69
Seen DD1 was still getting updated on pc, Decided buy it and see how its changed since 360 days. I've now been playing for like 2 months straight...Slight addiction maybe... I'm still learning new stuff daily from the community. Recommended
I started playing this game years ago on the xbox 360. One of my favorite games of all time and the best tower defence game of all time. Trendy is still releasing updates and characters to this game. Fun with friends or solo. 10/10 Recommend this game.
Ok it’s hard to start this review. As a game dungeon defenders is well made great graphics especially as it’s a 16 old ish game. Has a very simple design and objective witch is to protect the crystal.
As of right now its my second most played game on steam and I have at no point had disinterest in playing.
Highly recommend
For people who like td games eg btd6.
I’ll just say Mack shore to play on online ranked or you don’t get achievements.
As it’s probably a common mistake.
One down side it’s has got a lot of content within dlc so you will probably end up paying extra if you get into the game.
Pretty biased here, but I love this game. Bought back when TrendyNet was company that owned the game and it's my most played game. Awesome local or online co-op. Now there's plenty of different characters to choose from. Game still looks great for it's age. Gets very difficult as you progress levels of difficulty. Definitely worth the cost of the game to me.
Mouse+Keyboard are not user friendly, have to use controller for most of it and you still don't get all keybindings so you still have to use the keyboard for some things, but luckily not during combat. Character customization is pretty boring, you change colors or get skins. Characters only get a few towers to work with, but you can swap characters during build phase.
this game is so nostalgic for me. me and my siblings used to play it on the xbox 360. I have been playing it for as long as I could hold a controller and I would recommend to literally everyone. the only thing I don't really care much for is that when you play on pc you can't connect a ps4 controller, but I've learned how to play on the keyboard. analyze, adapt, overcome lol. I would hive this game a 10/10.
It's just old school fun.
What makes it unique these days is that I can stream it from my 4070 to a mini on my 4K downstairs and me, and my 3 sons, play co-op on the same screen.
There are so few games that allow this in-situ team play rather than having to sync with a bunch of people online. Unfortunately, many games stopped doing this (Orcs must Die...) and few go over the 2 player split ala Lego games.
This game ranks among the few, such as TF2, than have lasted DECADES and are still fun and playable.
God tier game for its era and how well it aged, boosted by nostalgia!
Ive been playing this game for years, starting with the xbox 360, now on PC with all the DLC and everything, all I can say is if you see this on sale, and you see this comment.. Get the game..
I’ve been playing this game since 2013, still my favorite of all time. Best developers and community there is. Still updated 14 years later. 10/10 can’t recommend enough!!
played when i was a kid, played when i was an adult. still good
This game has one of the niche, yet dedicated player communities of all time. It is an absolute gem, and the content you displayed in this video only scratches the surface of the content currently in-game. This game easily has dozens, if not hundreds of hours of gameplay to enjoy, and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone who enjoys RPGs or Tower Defense games. The community really keeps the game pushing forward, and I love it for that. Thanks to the devs and community for hundreds of happy memories, and happy defending to anyone joining the game or coming back to re-experience this game in its current state!
The one and only Dungeon Defenders - 10/10
This is a great mix of Hero Defence and Tower Defence, all in one game.
I really recommend this to everyone that wants to try something new with their friends, as this is a team based game. You can play solo too, or with randoms online, but I really recommend playing with friends (4 players).
This is the only DD game I enjoyed, I did not enjoy DD 2 or any of the other DD games, so I say stay with this one. Also, don't play redux (beta), stay with Vanilla (the original game) as it gets new DLC updates from time to time.
Really enjoyed the game when it came out years ago. And just recently I have seen they are adding new content to the game again? That in itself is awesome. So now in 2025 I am getting back into the game I can say its still fantastic solo, how I normally play, or even better with friends. able to couch co op with up to 4 people too! Lots of ways to build your classes, the maps and difficulty settings give a good challenge if you want one. Highly recommend. Show some love for the game so more comes out for it! I continue to gift this game to friends and they have all enjoyed. Might be an older game, but cant beat the classics!
I like to play this game with my kids. its a good family game, its low stakes co-op tower defense and we all like that.
Easily in my top 5 favorite games of all time still to this day. The artwork is a masterpiece that the sequels couldnt compete with. try to catch it on sale and you can get all the dlc for a good price too! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new game to suck them in or just to kill some time. There are still weapons i havent been able to get pets i havent acquired and missions i havent done.
100% Recommend this game to everyone! Yes its a old game, made in 2010-11 but its such a fun and amazing game to play! I played it on xbox 360 when i was little and coming back to this game has just been amazing and has brought back a lot of nostalgia! Don't have to worry about there not being enough content cause their is a whole lot of it! So 100% you are getting your money's worth plus more! Many Different characters to choose from, Skins and colours customizations, Many Different ways to play! Wanna play co-op? You can definitely do so split screen and online together up to 3 other players! It Also has such a good story to it and with the added dlcs it even adds more! Then with Dungeon Defenders 2, Awakened and Going Rogue plus maybe even future releases adds so much content to the series which is such a good series to play! So i Highly recommending getting and playing Dungeon Defenders! With Dungeon Defenders 1 there is 118 achievements to collect (you have to play online not local so if you wanna just play by yourself create a private match) which is a grind to collect them all so good luck!!! Though if you just wanna speed though the campaign and the added dlcs recommend just playing on easy! Note if you wanna level up fast recommend searching for a online session with other players in the custom games area! Overall the graphics to the game are great, no bugs or glitches, gameplay is great, story is also really great, the boss battles are hard but a lot of fun, and single player or multiplayer game is playable and a lot of fun! so it's a 10 out of 10!
its a fun game, ive been playing this game since it came out.
p2w they have nice people but asshole who do not care if you just started or do not want to help you from what i seen more assholes over people wants to help
Hands down THE BEST game of ALL TIME! timeless game :D
Great game. Amazing maps, funny easter eggs, fun characters. One of the best games and the price is great as well.
good game but I wish I could download an older patch before the new community devlopment team took over
Still receives updates after 10 years, great tower defence game
Do you enjoy Tower Defense style games?
Do you think you would enjoy shooting or meleeing enemies along with your Defenses doing their thing?
Then this is a good game for it.
The free DLC stuff is good enough to make the game generally worth it's cost I'd say. Usually the DLC go on sale for any of the other things (it's how I got all the base Heroes available, no cosmetics that I'm aware of) so just wait a little bit and they'll often be half or more off.
Overall the variety to each Hero makes it a very different experience and equipment will be locked by class (shows you which heroes can use it when you hover over) and Defenses are generally similar enough to get the idea but different enough to not do everything the same. One Defense throws fireballs while another hero's same slot Defense slows enemies down. Both are useful when used with some strategy.
The maps are all different, experiment with where you can and can't place towers, elevation problems for one could be a major advantage for another, and you'll find most of the equipment you'll use while leveling up. You also have what seems to be an infinite Item Box to store things just use "Lock Item" on stuff you want to keep so it doesn't get sold by accident when you hit "Sell All". Otherwise you can just one by one and "Sell to Bank" each item but locked items cannot be sold even then.
It has a slight learning curve given the 3D of it but it's not horrible. There are choke-points where enemies will funnel into that you can usually prioritize. After a certain point you're facing more and more enemies that are stronger and stronger and you can hit a brick wall of difficulty that requires leveling things up (including using stored mana to increase item levels for really good items you find and use for long periods of time) to tackle properly. I know I've had my fair share of getting beat to know sometimes what you thought would work doesn't.
The graphics are obviously dated by 2025 standards but it's a really old game. The gameplay is still pretty good, you just have to understand that some weapons are better at some things than others like some staffs shooting at a snail's pace compared to others that are full machine gun firing.
But I like the game, I know it was successful enough they made more games and more DLC so others liked it too, might be worth a trip down memory road or a dive into some older games that still hold up pretty well.
There's a ton of content.
It's a nice mix between tower defense and RPG action. The load of content means it can get a little confusing at times; but you will 100% get your time / moneys worth if you enjoy the game. Good for multiplayer too!
used to play from my 360, on steam the controls are a bit funky at first but once you get used to them its still as good as 360 days, iv been seeing this game get worked on recently and i hope they add cross play and a feature to let you change your key binds. i HIGHLY recommend this, its best with friends but not bad when solo.
if you've played dungeon defenders 2 and you haven't played the first one, you need to, the second game does not compare to the first game. something i hope the creators of dungeon defenders notices is that the simple graphics are better than the complicated graphics in 2. i hope this game gains popularity again, iv had quite a lot of fun playing it recently
A game I use to play as a kid that is still goated <3 So much fun with friends!
Dungeon Defenders is a fantastic blend of tower defense and action RPG, delivering addictive gameplay, deep customization, and fun co-op mechanics. Whether you're strategizing with friends or diving into solo play, the game offers an engaging mix of planning, combat, and loot-driven progression that keeps you coming back for more.
The gameplay is its biggest strength. Combining tower defense mechanics with real-time combat, Dungeon Defenders allows players to build elaborate defenses while actively fighting off waves of enemies with unique abilities and weapons. Each of the four main classes—Squire, Huntress, Apprentice, and Monk—has distinct strengths, towers, and playstyles, offering tons of variety and strategic depth.
The progression system is highly rewarding. Leveling up your hero, upgrading towers, collecting powerful loot, and fine-tuning your build creates an addictive gameplay loop. The RPG elements—such as stat customization, equipment upgrades, and pet companions—add another layer of depth, making each hero feel truly personalized.
The co-op experience is where the game truly shines. Whether playing with friends or random players online, team coordination and strategy play a huge role in success. Defending against massive enemy waves while working together to optimize defenses and handle tougher foes makes for endless replayability.
Visually, the game’s cartoony art style has aged well, with colorful environments and charming character designs that give it a lighthearted but engaging atmosphere. The soundtrack and effects complement the gameplay well, adding to the intensity of battle.
While the difficulty curve can be steep, especially in later levels and harder difficulties, it only adds to the sense of accomplishment when you finally overcome a tough challenge.
If you enjoy tower defense, action RPGs, and co-op multiplayer, Dungeon Defenders is an absolute must-play. It offers hours of addictive fun, whether you're optimizing builds, farming loot, or just enjoying chaotic battles with friends.
Rating: 9/10 – A fantastic mix of tower defense and action RPG mechanics with deep strategy and endless replayability.
Over all, a absolutely amazing game, the big issue I have is recently there was a 48 hour downtime for ranked (The only way to safely play multiplayer, and obtain achievments), which is what it is. But they took away access to the ranked saves which people had poured hours into, normally this isn't a bad thing as downtime will end. But as it has now ended, ranked specifically for redux no longer functions while standard ranked does. We have 0 comment on wether this is intentional or if something broke. But me and many others could have just lost hoursss of time without warning or chance to export saves. And any mention of this is ignored.
Since 2014 I have only had the PS3 to play this game on. It was old, but I would get on every month or so to play a little, just because I liked it so much.
A few days ago I saw this on sale, and prior I hadnt even realized it was on PC. I bought it and booted it up, only to realize that not only was it better than its PS3 version, but it was still regularly updating. I have already amassed 7 hours into this game, and I have been enjoying it way more than I thought I would.
Give it a try, you might find yourself sucked into the gameplay too. :)
I would recommend this game to anyone, literally everyone even. Super family friendly too. OG Developer got ownership of the game after a company had gotten rights a decade ago, currently is being maintained, updated, and has a growing community that's super cool.
Been a fan of this game for 12 years and will be for far longer than that. Its a simple formula for a great gaming couch play sesh.
Timeless classic, self contained and fun tower defense RPG.
a 3D tower defense for people who think Orcs must die! is too hands on, and for people who think bloons tower defense is too D.
Here's my experience:
- Screamed to assert dominance in the early stages of the game
- Kidnapped a flying cat that I then accidentally sold
- Played chicken
- Farmed for better gear and different accessories to feel more ~bonita~
only game i could eventually rack up hundreds of hours on and not have a single achievement
good game man. fr, but play with friends to have an even better game experience.
played a few hours. DD Awakened is dead and no longer updated. DD2 was okay. DD1 has aged like fine wine. The graphics are stylish to the point they really dont show much age, not like other games of this era do. Would recomend.
Dino Nuggies and Dungeon Defenders gets my dick hard
ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ
7.5/10
nothing to ride home about, but probably my favorite tower defense game
ends up having a fairly repetitive game-play loop
the second game really expands and improves on most concepts in this game but, well, second game is ruined by some "outside factors" to put it lightly
pretty interesting game. kinda hit the point where endgame gets stale and u do the same thing but grinding for very miniscule upgrades.
tower stacking makes it a lot less interesting but kinda required with how grindy it is. wish there was an option for no trading but increased rates.
information should be more public with droprates/item quality. having to dig through discords to figure out how certain game mechanics work, or how some areas are just terrible to farm feels really bad.
most of my time is afk doing survival waves.
worth trying if you really like tower defence games and are looking for something different. buy everything on sale tho.
I played this game so much in 2012 back on the xbox 360 and its awesome that it still sees updates. i bought it again for the nostalgia not really thinking it would hold up to games from 2024 but i was heavily surprised that ive had more fun on this than most games ive played recently.
I've playd once came out, playing again in 2024/2025, and honestly, it's arguably the best Tower Defense Game ever made. So if you like Tower Defense games, I bet this game won't disappoint you.
A long time favorite for me and my family.
are you a depressed rotting gamer who does nothing but self loath
are you the typa fella that does nothing and sit home
are you working a deadbeat job
me too
play this game
I can't believe it took me so long to discover this game when Sanctum 2 was one of my earliest purchases on Steam
Id buy this game 10x over again at $60 if i could! This game is the most hidden of gems! A 10/10 game that never really gained a crazy amount of traction so it remains a hidden gem. Ive put thousands of hours into this game on PS3 in 2011 and have just came back to try out the pc version purely out of nostalgia and the PC version has way more content than consoles had so to say the least ill be spending another couple thousand hours on this game again especially with all the new pc exclusive content! There's so much to get through and collect. If you want to have fun dont take mana or weapons from strangers because its most likely modded ruining the whole experience of the game.
Great game. Nothing quick got to grind it all. Great to see it still supported after all of these years.
Can be solo or multiplayer. Fun game with a decent amount of customization.
Pretty fun game, variety of characters and fun things to do even years later
