Short but a fantastic game. Finding optimal ways to defend against orcs always keeps you on your toes and fighting hordes of them never stops being fun. Just a great solo game. Highly recommended.
No keyboard settings.

Orcs Must Die!
-------------------------------
First in the series, a classic tower defense meets hack and slash.
fun to play, funny story, funny characters, funny world !
enjoy.
(Dose Not Initialize the Program) meaning Game doesn't even work.
Absolute banger of a game. Orcs Must Die! excels in almost every game aspect. The animations, visual style, streak, combo and headshot popups, are very satisfying to see. The soundtrack adds to the adrenaline pumping action, with lots of drums, electric guitar, harpsichord, organ, flutes, choir, etc. playing all kinds of memorable melodies. If slaughtering trillions of orcs using deadly traps, wit, and crossbow in a medieval fantasy setting had a sound, this is what it would sound like.
The game has lots of traps, but one is pretty much essential, namely the barricade, which is used to block paths and force the orcs into a choke point. Really satisfying to hoard all the orcs and slice, burn, skewer, AND launch them all at once! Different traps can be placed on the floor, wall or ceiling.
The game has almost 30 levels in total with the DLC. Lots of different layouts. with stairs, corners, pits, bridges, overpasses, and such.
As you can expect from a tower defense, it has a diverse set of enemies, that require different tactics. from small kobold runners to large ogres, flying enemies, bombers that go for the barricades.
The biggest problem in this game is its low replayability. Once you finish all levels, there's not much reason to go back, and I almost forgot to write a review as a result. Still, looking back at it, I only have fun memories. So OMD is a real no-brainer as far as game purchases are concerned. Buy it, play it, and go kill those orcs!
I realize I used the word "lots" a lot! but that word accurately encapsulates the feeling you get from this game.
Can't wait for the newest entry Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, which will be released in January 2025.
It is so good it will make you want to slap your momma!!!
Fun little 3rd person shooter/button masher.
I just don't get this game. Uninteresting, not fun... probably a standard empty tower defense game...
Super fun game, would be an easy recommend if it wasn't completely broken on Windows 11. The devs haven't shown any interest in fixing this AFAIK.
A timeless classic, its an excellent entry point into the tower defense genre. Its fun, looks great, plays great, sounds great and allows for a lot of freedom in how you tackle each level. My only complaint is that I would generally say that the sequel does everything better. The interaction between characters is more fun there and you also get proper multiplayer there, which is a surprisingly fun addition to what I thought was mainly a single player game. Overall for its price its still absolutely worth it, and if you don't care about multiplayer then this still is worth buying.
Very fun casual game.
Don't let the easy first few levels fool you, the difficulty *rapidly* escalates and you'll find yourself experimenting with more and more trap combinations to find the most efficient way to turn orcs into minced and/or grilled meat. Or you capitulate and watch a guide on how to 5 skull a map you can't figure out yourself on YT. Either way, the sound design and visual effects make crafting the perfect kill box peak satisfaction.
Awesome
Himbo War Mage
Fun Game with customisable trap placement For maximun Orcish carnage. Remember Higher Combos(of traps used) and head shots equals more coins. At least I think it affect the coins dropped for traps and perks.
Had a great time with it and played it a lot offline as well, sad about unchained but oh well, 3D tower defence with charming story hope they make more, give this one a try, wish list it and if you manage to get it while it is on any sale even better
They must die, simple as
Started playing the 2nd game, and i have to say this one looks better today, runs way better and the weapons you had felt a lot more rewarding.
Its basically immpossible to headshot consitantly with the crossbow in the second game, and you have to use more like a machinegun cause its so inaccurate.
Traps you unlock are usefull unupgraded as well, unlike in OMD2, where you feel like you are throwing wet napkins
The only thing it doesnt do as well as the sequel are the interactions between characters as its basically only Maximilian for 90% of the game

Despite other reviews this game does NOT hold up to the test of time. Multiple bugs that I never encountered when playing on my old computer. These include mob animations not working right (headshots is a must, need that head to move WITH it's hitbox!), and things like maps are made in mirror mode but with newer computers you can not place traps in a mirror like fashion, the tiles are just slightly off. Placing traps does not work as well as it used to either. When a trap gets destroyed, i.e. barricade, you may or may not be able to replace it in the same spot (this was too much for me, not gonna replay all that time on a level hoping THIS time the bug won't happen).
To be clear my computer is a super computer, all Intel/NVIDIA. No way any problems are in my hardware... Best guess steam had install some runtimes for the game, these prob changed versions since the game was made and slightly makes things not behave as they were fine tuned before.
This game faded into irrelevance but revisiting it all these years after release, it's actually still great even if you've never played it before.
It's a mix between tower defense and FPS. Definitely very fun. The sequel is good too.
Setting the traps and watching the show is great. A few levels let you do that well. The rest of the game is like those ones with dodgy controls and awful camera angels that expect you to do precision jumps. You'll spend more time trying to get the controls to do what you want, and getting camera to not show a close up of your characters back that fills the whole screen, than playing the really fun part of the game. Doom this is not. Know your strengths developers. Shame because the trap setting part of the game is so much fun
Honestly just a blast to play through, even as we're ending 2024 the art-style holds up incredibly well, the hit-splat when getting a headshot is immaculate. The nightmare stages are REALLY hard to perfect, but the satisfaction when you manage to get it just right is unbeatable.
The DLC stages are a fun little extra with new enemies, but becomes just a bit too frustrating to perfect on nightmare.
I'd argue this is my favorite tower defense game ever made. Not the best, but my favorite. I think this game is a total blast and has a really fun difficulty curve. It never feels unfair and every level has some unique gimmick. I wish I could 100% it again.
90/100
Runs perfectly for a 12 year old game, very straight foward and satisfying to play.
Truly a great game. Less puzzly and tactical than other TDs, but filled with nonstop action, carnage and fun.
If some good old carnage is your cup of tea of course.
Classic
This series is simply a hidden gem.
Broken will not play!!!!!
Timeless fun!!
This game has aged very well and is still a fantastic game.
God bless
Orcs Must Die is a hybrid between a tower/base defense game and a FPS shooter.
It's a very good mix, the idea is original and well put into practice.
So, if you like those game types, you will surely like it.
Graphics and sound are fine, the story is the classic "hordes of monsters are invading our realms".
I liked that the game has humor. It's funny to listen to the things orcs are saying while they are invading and painfully trying to overcome the traps.
You have 3 difficulties: easy, normal and nightmare. Normal is quite challenging if you are the achiever type who wants to complete all maps with 5 stars. There are very different types of maps, some very complex with many corridors leading to the magic rift ( the thing you have to defend from the orcs ) and also in some maps you have multiple rifts to defend. So definitely it's the type of game where you have to study each map and there is significant brain usage.
For some maps definitely I had to use a guide for achieving 5 stars. So normal difficulty is actually something between normal and hard. And nightmare difficulty is the "very hard" option.
There are many traps to chose from and spells, some are more useful then others, each player has a unique style and combination of traps he/she likes to use, but for some maps certain traps are indeed a must.
Acquiring 5 stars from each map is very important because stars are used to upgrade traps.
To conclude this game is indeed a quality one and became popular for a reason.
I recommend it to the fans of the tower defense genre.
See Orc, Murder orc. Rinse and repeat.
Good
This is a tower defence game with third person combat, and nothing more. There are no frills. This game won't surprise you. But there is strength in simplicity, and the foundations are strong.
I'm definitely interested to see how the sequels expand on this.
game good replaying for new one. best action tower defense game out there.
Holds up amazingly.
Can't wait for Orcs Must Die Deathtrap!
I don't know what it is but this game never fails to entertain.
A good first entry to a great franchise
More traps. MORE TRAPS.
I LIKE WHEN THINGS GO BOOM.
I couldn't figure out how to play it because it wouldn't let me configure my controller.
How many ways to kill an oak?
I have played number two and three and wanted to play the first one, it was not a disappointment. It is still fun and challenging even if I really missed the extra trapped for the next games.
I kind of feel like this game is all about finding your own particular niche, for how you want to destroy the orcs for me, It was slow trap and the thing that punches the Orcs down from the ceiling.
The final map is one of the best of the orcs must die franchise, even if most of the maps are kind of basic, I enjoyed them well enough, my biggest problem with the game is there's no co-op, so sadly I could not bully my friend into playing it with me.
would recommend, even if the music gets repetitive and the voices are hard to hear.
One of the best games to play back on xbox 360 very fun
Good old fashioned fun.
Fun, but it keeps bricking my computer when I try to close it.
It's good and simple straight forward fun.
Must have
