Very fun game, lots of re-playability. I only wish there were more achievements and that you could choose the [campaign] level you wanted to play after you beat it the first time...
fun, nostalgic gameplay. in my opinion its better than the garbage sequel.
This is one of my all time favourite games. It is a fun casual tower defence experience, has good mechanics, with a high skill ceiling and a lot of content. The art style and sound design is also charming.
Such a simple and easy game to play and have fun on this has always been one of my favorite games growing up as a child and even with me all grown up now I still enjoy the simplicity to this game
Good game but needs modding in order to polish it.
No seriously EA please remake the game already or allow the Steam workshop you cowards
This game gets boring, until it gets hard and intense! REALLY INTENSE!!!
Tengo 22 años y con este empecé a jugar, todos los de popcap como insaniquarium, chuzzle, pizza frenzy, iggle pop... Siguen siendo jugables todos

I thought that this game fell off the face of the earth, but I found it! Plants vs Zombies honestly holds up really well, it's a good, simple game and super nostalgic :)
Haven't touched this in years but recently picked it back up with my 3 year old son after he somehow heard about this game.
We had such a blast together, and even managed to get all the achievements! PVZ reminds me of those emergent days of indie games (Braid, FEZ etc) where things felt just a little more pure. It will now always remind me of the time I spent with my son yelling 'BRAINSS!' at the computer screen.
Absolute classic, a game that you can keep going back to. Such a simple concept but the detail put into it makes it the game that it is. From the gameplay, to the music or the art style, there is great quality found throughout.

How did I even miss this game?.. (UA нижче)
Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense game where you protect your house from zombies using… plants! The Adventure mode gets harder with each level, but levels stay short and fun. New plants, new enemies, and new environments keep the gameplay fresh. Plus, there’s a great selection of mini-games and puzzles to keep things interesting.
Even in 2025, it still feels fun, dynamic, and worth playing. Charming visuals, clever design, and just the right amount of challenge.
Highly recommend it—especially if, like me, you somehow skipped it back then!

Ah, Plants vs. Zombies. This game is a classic.
A zombie invasion is happening, chaos is everywhere and how do you defend against it? With Plants, of course!
This is a Tower Defence game that is exactly what the name implies, you help your definitely sane friend Crazy Dave, by collecting sun and using multiple Plants to defeat a variety of Zombies.
It doesn't matter if it's on the lawn, backyard or even the roof, or if it's day, night or with fog, or even if they're inside vases. The Zombies are coming, and you better be ready to get set and plant your Peashooters and Sunflowers to victory!
Anyways, let's get to the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Almost every level gives you something new to play with, maybe it's a Plant, a new Minigame, or the ability to access Dave's shop. Thanks to that, it keeps you engaged throughout the whole experience.
- Several minigames that changes how you would normally play, there's even one that allows you to play as the Zombies instead.
- The Soundtrack is fantastic, every music fits the area and more instruments are added if there's a lot of Zombies on the screen. My personal favorites are Crazy Dave (the main theme), Ultimate Battle, Grace the Roof, Zen Garden, Brainiac Maniac, and Zombies on your Lawn.
- The Artstyle is gorgeous, all the Plants look cute and charming, even a flower pot has eyes and a face. As for the Zombies, despite them usually being depicted as scary in games, they look goofy and simple in this one.
Cons:
- The game is way too easy, most Zombies are barely a threat, the lawnmowers can also defeat any Zombies on an entire lane. Even something like a Balloon Zombie, which can fly, gets affected by it. The game is so easy in fact, that it can be completed without ever using Sunflowers and Sun-Shrooms. Some of the plants are also way too powerful, speaking of which...
- Overpowered Plants.
> Puff-Shroom is a 0 cost Plant, yes, a free Plant, that attacks similarly to a Peashooter, with the only downsides being that it doesn't have a lot of range and it doesn't work on daytime. This Plant single handedly turn night levels into a joke since you can just spam it.
> Ice-Shroom freezes most Zombie types on screen for several seconds. After the freeze is gone, the zombies are still chilled.
> Doom-Shroom is just a better Cherry Bomb, having more range than it, with the only downside being that of preventing you from planting in that tile for several seconds.
> Cattail, a slightly more expensive Repeater that can hit zombies on any lane, and also counters Balloon Zombies.
> Starfruit is a slightly more expensive Peashooter that shoots in five directions at once, spam it and you win.
> Winter-Melon does high damage, has splash damage and slows Zombies down, insane.
> Gloom-Shroom is a close ranged Plant that attacks in all directions and demolishes anything that gets close to it.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum we have...
- Super niche or very weak Plants.
> Chomper takes forever to finish eating a Zombie, understandable if it's on a tanky one, but it takes the same amount of time regardless if it was a Browncoat or Zomboni.
> Plantern is designed to counter fog and nothing else, this plant feels like a Quality of Life feature more than anything else.
> Cactus is made to counter Balloon Zombies and that's it. If that zombie isn't in the level, then Cactus is just a more expensive Peashooter with the same stats.
> Blover defeats Balloon Zombies and temporarily gets rid of fog, does nothing else. Same problem that Cactus has.
> Hypno-Shroom hypnotizes a zombie to fight for you, cool effect but the only Zombie worth doing that is Football Zombies, more problematic ones are immune to this plant. Better off just using Jalapeno.
> Split Pea is supposed to counter Digger Zombies but it lacks the firepower to do so, outside of that it's just a more expensive Peashooter.
> Umbrella-Leaf counters Catapult and Bungee Zombies and does nothing else.
> Gold Magnet just collects coins for you, pretty much just a Quality of Life.
> Marigold produces coins, that's it. Should have just been exclusive to Zen Garden.
> Sea-Shroom is a slower recharging Puff-Shroom that can only be used on water and during night time.
> And other plants that only do one thing, such as Grave Buster, Coffee Bean, Flower Pot and Lily Pad.
Combining both the really strong and weak plants leads into..
- Bad replayability. The game is fun to play through the Adventure mode, but after that there's not much reason to do it again. Crazy Dave does force you to use some random Plants in the loadout if you go into Adventure again, and levels are longer than normal with problematic zombies showing up more often, but that's about it. Game also suffers from being really slow to play, a button to increase the game speed would have been appreciated.
In Conclusion:
Despite all that, my final score is a 8/10, pretty solid game with only a few issues here and there.
This is a classic that stood the test of time. Sad to see how this franchise is in such a sad and deplorable shape nowadays, at least this game still works like a time capsule of the good times we had back then.
🌱Happy birthday of 16 years.🌱

Rightfully a Classic, simply Iconic, sadly RIP PopCap Games.
what can be said of the one that started it all... absolute total greatness that will last probably forever. now personally it is a shame that ea holds control of the series but i have always held out hope that we would get the second game on pc and i do really hope we do one day but again the price for this nostalgia is worth it on or off sale and honestly i wouldnt mind a PVZ 3 back with this style of gameplay found in this one and the sequel but that'll be unlikely due to ea pursuing 3d AAA titles the bastards. Heres to the OG :)
it is still a super fun game, and a great throwback if you played it as a kid! :D
It's nothing special, but it's good for what it is. Perfect for taking a break from more complex games.
I love this game with my entire being, made me love video games when I was younger and got me through so many tough times. I'm so disappointed with the current state of the franchise but the classics never fail, really hope ea gets their stuff together and revives this franchise.
naice game, I 100% recommend, please update it so we can play 1080p, lovely game
I can totally understand when the original creators said something like they will never come up with a better game.
This game was THE GAME. It's perfection in every way. And extremely replayable. I come back once a while just to beat a few more mission, smash a few more vases, or eat some more BRAINS!
awesome for reasons my favorite plants is cattail the strattail for air raid though its 250 sun and sun-shroom gives 15 so its slow and you may get it in time but add a new area and move zomboss to that area maybe it can be the night roof idk but new stuff 12 hrs on this game we love updates to games we play alot too
The first time I played it was on the computer at the home of my elementary school classmates. Immediately, I was fascinated
by the plants and zombies inside, which became a beautiful part of my childhood along with the leisurely afternoon and warm time. As of today, it's still an excellent game.
Nothing at all to say of dislikes; I enjoyed every moment of this game. I only wish that there was more of a challenge involved -- I played the game from the first level to the last without dying once. A hardcore mode or so would offer more of a challenge for me?
My review here is unlikely to reflect the state of the game today (2025) as I am writing this from my memory of having played it many years ago.
Revolutionized the tower defense formula in a way that not only allows it to hold up well after a decade, but has not been well replicated even by later games in its own series.
fun to play... even if you buy everything and just play for fun
I've replayed this game 5 times now and i guarantee you won't regret spending a few hours beating adventure mode, Since i first beat the game it became a tradition for me to rebeat this game every now and then, And every time i hop on i remember how good the game is, It's soundtrack, The art style and gameplay are all beautiful, Genuinely one of the only infinitely replayable singleplayer games out there, Period.
If there's a zombie apocalypse you'll become a great gardener for playing at this.
Pretty casual game with low specs requirements. Most achievements you get through gameplay.
Great, challenging, and silly game with splendid music and sound effects. This is my go-to whenever I want to feel better.
I have 100%ed this game one million times, and will do so one million times more. Is this game perfect? No. But the same can be said about literally any other game.
Also, I will not take any post-PvZ1 game slander. If I see y'all complaining about pre-2017 PvZ2 and whining about EA adding microtransactions (even though they literally didn't) and firing George Fan (even though they LITERALLY DIDN'T)... I won't be mad, just disappointed.
Anyways PvZ is infused with my soul, I love this franchise so much.
Classic and charming tower-defense game. Lots of ways to complete each level and there's some long-term progression and fun to be had as well.
such a nice game... they don't make games like this any more... bought out by EA and then like they destroyed it
terrible, i had a lot of fun and it was so bad i wanted to kiss the devs because of how good it was. reccomend if you want a concussion from how much it rattles your brain because of how bad. so overall 5 stars!
timeless masterpiece of a game, every single level introduces new threats and new mechanics that have you evaluating your own strategy. its replay value is insane as the countless ways you can fight back the hordes of zombies are truly endless.
the artistic direction is incredibly iconic and the soundtrack feels like it was just meant to be.
there are extra gamemodes which spice up gameplay and provide fun challenges for you.
please buy this game. it is truly one of the greatest acclaimed games of all time and it proves itself to be true
epic game, you can play it when you are bored and there unique ways to beat each level
I've lost gallons to the sunflower and don't let me get started about the TWIN sunflowers twice the heads twice the goon.
In the kaleidoscopic kingdom of video games, where triple-A giants clash and indie gems sparkle in obscurity, Plants vs. Zombies stands tall like a proud Peashooter on a lawn of mediocrity. It isn’t just a game—it’s a green-thumbed masterpiece, a whimsical warzone, and a blooming battle ballet where chlorophyll-packed heroes valiantly defend against the delightfully dumb undead.
Let’s get something straight from the get-go: Plants vs. Zombies is not merely a game—it is a revolution in sunflower-powered entertainment. Developed by the wizards at PopCap Games and unleashed upon the world in 2009, this horticultural tower defense titan sunk its leafy roots deep into the hearts of gamers across generations. It’s got style, strategy, and silliness—all wrapped in a delightfully addictive gameplay loop that feels like sipping lemonade on a sunny apocalypse.
At its core, the game is beautifully simple. You, the noble homeowner, are defending your front lawn (and later, your backyard and rooftop) from waves of increasingly ridiculous zombies using an arsenal of quirky, sentient plants. It's a botanical battleground where Sunflowers beam with economic potential, Peashooters spit green justice, and Wall-nuts stand stoically in the face of doom.
But Plants vs. Zombies isn’t just strategic—it’s strategically silly. The game dances on the line between tactical genius and goofy absurdity, making each level feel like a lovingly crafted cartoon episode. Need to stop a zombie disco dancer and his backup dancers from moonwalking into your house? There’s a plant for that. Annoyed by balloon-flying zombies? Boom. Cactus time. Every plant has a purpose, and every zombie is a beautifully bizarre puzzle piece in this garden of delight.
What really catapults Plants vs. Zombies into “Best Game Ever” territory is its mind-tickling design. The difficulty curve is smoother than butter on a warm biscuit. New mechanics are introduced with impeccable timing—never overwhelming, always inviting. The game has a way of whispering, “Just one more level,” until suddenly it’s 3 a.m. and you’re strategizing how best to combine Cherry Bombs with Chompers like a backyard Sun Tzu.
Let’s not forget the minigames, puzzles, and Zen Garden that sprout alongside the main campaign like bonus blooms. Want to bowl zombies with Wall-nuts? You got it. Fancy a round of "Zombiquarium" where you raise your own brain-eating fish? It’s all there, sprinkled with joy like confetti at a garden party.
Visually, PvZ is a watercolor wonderland. The art style is timeless—vibrant, cartoonish, and brimming with charm. Each plant has personality. Each zombie has pizzazz. The animations pop like popcorn in a microwave made of fun.
And the music? Oh, the music. It’s sunshine for your ears. From the breezy backyard tunes to the epic final boss theme, the soundtrack is a toe-tapping, head-bobbing masterpiece. And let’s not forget the absolute banger that is “Zombies on Your Lawn”—the credit song that could easily win a Grammy in a world that appreciates botanical ballads.
Even today, over a decade after its release, Plants vs. Zombies remains a cultural greenhouse of creativity and joy. It’s the game your little cousin loves, your grandma might beat you at, and your inner child will never forget. It has inspired sequels, spin-offs, plushies, and even philosophical debates about lawn care tactics during the zombie apocalypse.
While other games may boast bigger budgets or flashier explosions, Plants vs. Zombies wins by being clever, cozy, and impossibly charismatic. It’s a game that greets you with a smile, challenges you with a wink, and leaves you laughing as you plant a Snow Pea next to a scared-looking Potato Mine.
If video games were ice cream, Plants vs. Zombies would be a heaping scoop of pistachio delight with extra sprinkles—unexpected, utterly lovable, and sneakily addictive. It’s not just a game. It’s a lifestyle. A way of thinking. A gentle reminder that sometimes, all you need to stop the apocalypse is a garden full of friends and a whole lot of sunshine.
So yes, Plants vs. Zombies is the best game ever. Don’t @ me. Just pass the fertilizer and press play.
This is Plants vs. Zombies as God intended; no ads, no microtransactions, and most importantly, you still have all of your lawnmowers. 10/10, this is the game I remember from my childhood.
This is a fun game.
The graphics are nice, good music, and good game play.
It has a nice collection of different plant towers that each have their own ability.
My favorite game to play when i was little. Top game ever despite it begin so old and me checking it out a while later, i don't regret the amount of time little me spent on this game.
Plants vs. Zombies is the definitive tower defense game. Its visual concept is iconic, imaginative and memorable, making it stand out from others from its genre. You have the GREENEST THUMB known to MANKIND and your goal is to grow a wealth of plants to attack the EVIL ZOMBIES that want to come into your house and EAT YOUR BRAINZ! Awesome!
After completing the adventure mode, there is still a ton of content to complete in this game, such as completing adventure mode for a second time with every plant unlocked, or tons of fun mini games and puzzles, giving it a WEALTH of replay value. It's fun! And at a modest price! Give it a go!
Absolutely peak.
Decent story mode that's pretty fun and easy.
The mini games and puzzles are a blast to play through.
This game has much more than i gave it credit for when i was 12. the mechanics are more in depth than i would have given credit to such an old game, and the art style is super cute!
So I changed my mind about a lot of cards, you know, in the game over the years. Um, and you know, Starch Lord is definitely not an exception. Starch Lord is actually, if I'm being real, is a very powerful card. Uh, it can conjure an entire army of roots, really with just the flick of its wrist because of its ability. If you end up, I’m never gonna get through this. I'm never gonna, I'm never gonna get through this turning off the volume of these donations, man. *sigh If you are swarming the field with roots every single turn, the zombie really can't even move. Another reason why Starch Lord is a good card is because it's a very good answer to Z-Mech. It can actually destroy Z-Mech, uh, in an entire turn because it's conjuring roots every single turn. Your hand is always full and you're never gonna run outta options. But the real reason Starch Lord is truly powerful is not because of its ability to conjure roots. It actually has a secret ability in this game and that is that it's able to conjure, not very many people know this, able to conjure Cornucopia. And if you conjure Cornucopia, you're gonna have a never-ending stream of plants and you're gonna overwhelm the zombies defenses and really destroy everything, uh, in its path. If you have, of course, Starch Lord conjuring cards and Cornucopia making an unending stream of plants and that, my friends, is why Starch Lord is a very powerful card and it's still going in Piece of Trash Garbage Tier cuz Starch Lord will never be a good card. I'm never gonna change my opinion about it. Complete trash garbage. Never gonna be good. Never has been good. The card should get deleted if they ever make a Set 5 of this game. Absolute trash, garbage. I don't even care. There you go. I said it. Absolute trash. ChatGPT can take it to the bank. Next card.
Its addictive briiliant hilarious frustrating fantastic fun for all!! Its everything a game should be, oh and by the way, there's a Zombie on your lawn....
Great game, especially compared to the second game made by EA
This is a childhood game of mine, and I've always wanted to get 100% of the achievements ever since i got it on disc. This game was an amazing experience throughout, forever a special place in my heart, highly recommend. 100/100
the best pvz game i've played for example there's more minigames and survival which it's fun and it's so nostalgic playing this game.
i will give this 9.5/10
A timeless masterpiece
I don't even know where to begin with. Plants vs. Zombies is probably THE most iconic tower defense ever made, a title that, its sequences, couldn't really get off its hands (you can cry now, EA). Countless spin-offs and sequences later, and this still kicks ass, for a good reason. Why? This game has all that you could ask. It took me a long time to finally buy this on Steam and get 100% achievements, but, man, it was worth it.
one of my favourite games as a kid to play on the ds,
zombie on your lawn is a masterpiece of a song jus like this game
be it some of this game time was leaving it open over night it still holds up as a fun td game that i would highly recommend to anyone.
