Defendoooooor!!

If you'd like to turn off your brain and just shoot things for a few minutes, consider giving this one a try when it goes on a big discount. There's nothing special about Defendoooooor!! (except for the boulder power-up, that one feels nice), but it also isn't as bad as some other reviews claim. I just wish the devs fixed weird colliders on flying enemies that make 50% of your shots disappear in empty void instead of hitting them.

An ordinary indie game, with the usual controls, but everything is normal there. Okay, I don’t argue beautifully in a similar style
What is missing in this game is gamepad support and it would be great, because there are a lot of similar games like this

I do not recommend this game AT FULL PRICE. If you can get it at something like 94% off though... well you could do much worse than this at that price.

PROS:
- Nice cartooney graphics.
- Fun gameplay concept.

NEUTRAL:
- Game is more of a shoot'em up where enemies don't shoot back at you and you die if they reach the line in front of you.
- Kind of reminds me of Plants VS Zombies except that instead of placing plants, you control a guy who's shooting at the oncoming horde.

CONS:
- This game feels like it should be marked early access.
- Not worth anything NEAR the full asking price.
- The controls need work. (No mouse movement, no keyboard key to shoot)

- The game is in SERIOUS need of being rebalanced.
- The first level is actually too hard for the first gun as the first level in the game.
- Level completion rewards are all over the place, rewards per level generally tend to increase but some levels give you less rewards than the prior ones, some levels even give you no rewards at all.
- Gun upgrades feel way too powerful
- Repeat the first level until you can afford the first gun upgrade, then the whole game will be really easy (barring a bug in world 2)
- Too much gaps between waves of monsters.
- Some of the gun stats do not seem consistent from one gun to the next.

- The game has a few bugs.
- Sometimes, not all enemy types in the level will be listed as enemies for the level.
- Some levels end as enemies are still spawning.
- During a certain level around halfway through world 2, your character will disappear for a second during which you can not attack or do anything.

- The game could use a bit more content.

- End each world with some kind of a boss encounter.
- Enemies between world 1 and world 2 are too similar making world 2 feel like it's just a continuation of world 1 (world 3 actually has mostly new enemies and feels like it's own world)
- Game is extremely short, can be completed in about an hour.

Good concept starting point but needs a lot more work and content.
Price value: 0/10 (based on full price)

Bought this in a -99% coupon bundle, for 10 cents. For that price: kinda okay.
For full price (9,99€): don't be RIDICULOUS...

It's a tower-defense like game but without building.
If you got hit once, you are dead.
That would be not a problem, I would call that a difficulty.

Defendoooooor!! is the first game since joining Steam back in 2009 that I've ever played through in one go. It took approximately 1hr 25 minutes from start to finish. I would have liked to have seen more levels, with increasing difficulty, or with different difficulty modes. Apart from my initial foray into the game a couple of days ago, where I only survived a few levels; once I'd got used to the rhythm of the game it was relatively easy to survive virtually every wave. The only ones I did lose were when I was trying out the extra weapon systems that included a barrage of rockets or bombs. These were activated by two buttons along the top of the game arena.
It's a colourful game with pleasant graphic style that looks hand drawn and oddly it reminded me vaguely of Syndicate, from way back in 1993. In reality Defendoooooor!! is nothing like Syndicate (an isometric rts game compared to Defendoooooor!! 's 2D arena shooter), but it did remind me of the weapons and explosions from that old game. Basically Defendoooooor!! is an atmospheric shooter with a tenuous link to the tower defence game Plants vs Zombies.
Each level sees you defending the left hand edge of an arena, with movement restricted to up and down using the W and S keys and the left mouse button for firing your weapon. Waves of weird enemies move at various speeds from the right hand edge of the arena, ranging from what looked like gelatinous cubes (reminiscent of my tabletop D&D days in the late 70's, before I got my first computer) to a Zardoz like head (the Sci Fi film where Sean Connery looked like he was wearing an oversized nappy), as well as chains of green germs, blue coloured buffalos, termite nests that spawn smaller nests when hit, yellow dog heads with fangs and tails and several other monsters. These move in different ways, but once you've encountered them once, you can usually figure their moves and defend accordingly. You can see which monsters are going to appear on each level as they are portrayed along the bottom of the arena, and sometimes hide the lower parts of the oncoming waves, so you need to keep an eye on that area sometimes, otherwise you'll find you've lost the level and have to start again.
Each wave earns you an amount of gold, unless you lose a level, then on its replay you are awarded zero dollars. Earnings are spent on buying new weapons, of which there are eight to choose from. Most weapons have different rates of fire and damage potentials, the faster the rate of fire and higher the damage, the more the weapon costs. You start with the weakest weapon, which has a damage potential of 1 and a speed of two. You can upgrade this for 100 dollars to one with a damage potential of 2 but with the same rate of fire. The next two weapons cost $250 each and both have better damage and/or rates of fire than the two weakest weapons. The best weapon costs $2000 and has a damage potential of 7 times higher than the weakest weapon and a rate of fire of 5, which you'll definitely need by the third stage. There are also two extra weapons that can be activated from the top two buttons that each cost $100 for a single shot. However, these two weapons are far more devastating compared to the guns you have and are very useful if you look like you are being overrun by the oncoming waves. Personally I didn't need to use these two weapons until the last few levels from the third stage. There are three stages, each with distinctive monsters and each stage comprise 10 levels. Overall I found this a fun game to play, but I would say that it is far too short to justify its usual price of £9.99/$9.99/€ 9.99.

The music fits well with the game, but it does become very repetitive after several minutes as it's only a small loop so you get the same short rhythm throughout the game. It can be turned off via the main menu if it becomes too annoying (thankfully its not as annoying as the music that played while trying to survive Tetris that I used to play on the original chunky Game Boy back in the early 90's).

Once you've completed a level you can replay it or any previously completed level whenever you want, though you'll find all the weapons you previously unlocked at that level will still be unlocked and more importantly, you cannot restart the game from scratch once you've completed it unless you delete the Defendooooor!!.exe XML document located via the following path C:/Users/name of account/AppData/Local/Defendooooor!!.exe/UserDefault . (Remember that the AppData folder is a hidden folder, so you'll need to open your Control Panel then Appearance and Personalization. Select Folder Options, then select the View tab. Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK, this will then make hidden folders visible, but slightly translucent to distinguish them from your normal folders. Overall I've given this a thumbs up because I thoroughly enjoyed playing it from start to finish. It's a relatively easy game to beat, I loved the graphic, but because it's quite short I don't think its worth the non-discounted price, but when it's on sale (for example, I got it for 75% off recently), its definitely worth getting, especially if you enjoy top down shooters and tower defence games vaguely similar to Plant's vs.Zombies.

Feels like an end-of-semester project for a fairly competent undergrad student done in a rush just to get a passing grade rather than a full-fledged game.

Meh. Its not bad but i think the price is to high so get it on sale or if you get the coupon. The game is kinda boring for me because it's just shooting aliens in similar environment's and the game looks dull if it had some glow effects and brighter colours i would like the levels more. Its a alright game if you've got nothing else to play or your just bored.

The Short of it: Perfect mindless fun. Almost like Space Invaders turned on it's side, it's an arcade shooter, with escalating difficulty. Good gun variety, and sound effects made me LOL. I paid $1.30, so 90% off.

I would say it is priced WAY too high at regular price. I wouldn't pay more than $2 for this personally, but I was pleased with it at the $1.30 I paid for it on sale, as I said.

Note to Dev: It was bothersome that there wasn't a proper full-screen option. Closest thing to full-screen you can get with this game still has the bar at the top, which I found distracting. Adding an option to full-screen vs. windowed would be a huge improvement to this game, with low amount of effort needing to be put forth.

I love the death sound effects - never change them, lol ;)

This game is pretty fun and it is worth 1 Euro if you get it using the -90% coupon.

Cool graphics... unfinished game, sometimes you will just stand there for 10-30 seconds waiting for something to happen or the next wave to come out, currency appears out of nowhere, you could be all the game with $0 and suddenly you have $250 pop up just before the end.
GAMEPLAY: The first few levels (2 or 3 at max) are ok, but after you purchase your first upgraded gun, the game basically is sooo easy it's boring at that point, you won't even get to see the monsters/aliens past the 1/4 of the screen at that point before they are all dead.
SOUND: Same track over and over and the loop is not seamless you can hear were it drastically cuts the sound and starts over. When you finish a level (and this happens out of no particular reason out of nowhere) the sound there is just plain annoying and doesn't fit with the game theme.
BUY/NOT: I say that until the game is polished a lot more in many gameplay aspects and finished cause it seems to be only like 60% finished, maybe yes, but right now as it is… DO NOT BUY right now…. Wait to see if it’s massively updated/finished.

Edith, final notes:
I just pushed through the full game to see if anything improved, and at least the last 2 levels are kind of ok, but you don’t get any currency. You can finish the full game within 90 minutes and that's just because the levels last that long to play them (even if nothing is happening), not because they are hard nor fun to replay.

Not really a TD game, you don't build any towers. You shot the aliens, I guess you defend a tower. Which would have been fine but its not that rewarding..

More so an arcade shooter where you walk one vertical line

Theres no fullscreen mode, and no controller support which would fit really well here.
I am unsure why some things don't have sound fx..

Art is really cool though

It's a simple therefore not frustrating you shooter. You will have a couple of buttons to move + 1 shootin' button preferably for a permanent press. There are 3 "worlds" with 10 "levels" per each one. My tip is to grind the first world untill you will gain enough money to buy a 2000 $ biggest gun,since that you will have not any problems 'till the end of the whole game.
Such a pity there are no trading cards,alien classes would be perfect for the cute Steam cards/badges.
