Its a non AAA game but its slightly below my expectation.

A couple of obvious glitches. I think devs are not bothered to fix them.

The game is quite short, finished it in 5 hours, with some missing secrets.
Story is... meh... Could do with more main character's background story and need more character developments for the other characters. instead of having almost all other fellow characters dead

The hack and slash combat is slightly above average.

Environment is good. Music is good.

Worth a try if this game is on 50% sale or more.

Very impressed with the game so far, the story seems decent, the graphics are nice, and the combat system seems to have depth. Great game when on deal, and at full price if you like beat them ups.

This is incredibly well made for a non AAA game!

The movement and combat is very smooth and tight, you always feel in control. There are lots of things secrets to discover throughout the game so if you like finding stuff there's that as well.

It's not very long though. I completed it in about 4.3 hours played. This is only for the completion though and there are lots of secrets that I did miss. As well there are lots of achievements, Normal/Hard/Hell difficulties and a Challenge Mode as well.

The story is alright, it's not much depth to it but it's fairly interesting for what it is.

If you're a fan of hack-and-slash games and some platforming alongside it, then I greatly recommend this game!

HDL has nice visuals, nice music and, dispite a rather shallow story, puts some efforts in its presentation.

But the fighting system and platforming are way too approximative. You're never quite sure when to use the counter (and even when you succed, the hits sometimes missed the target). Ennemies can break you in the middle of a combo (and sometimes push you off a cliff for an instant death), you can get hit by some off-screen attacks, hitboxes are not very clear...

The more I was progressing through the game, the more frustrating it was becoming. The end was just a relief for me. Hard to recomand that game when other beat'em all outthere are really better.

Pros:
• Looks Nice
• Exploration is fun

Cons:
• Translation
• Voice acting (english)
• some animations and sfx

Verdict: 6/10
Fun diversion if you don't expect too much. Get it on a sale: worth it!

Hidden Dragon Legend is a hack and slash 2.5 platformer with background and story from China. There were few 3D cutscenese which are really awesome by the way. One of the features that amazes me is the different combos that you can launch depending on the enemy. Spoiler alert: You can even use your skill to solve certain puzzles. The first part is kinda funny and slow, I wanted skip most of the story. But after being defeated by an enemy a couple of times I feel the urge to kill the enemy quickly. This and the feel the keep slashing anything in my way makes me want to keep playing the game.

I played the normal level, some parts of the game is already kina hard for me specially with limited potions on hand. I would say that the difficulty in levels, combat, graphis and the ugrading system makes this game unique in a sense. Definitely recommended for hack and slash fans.

Totally recommended!!!

- Game has good graphics.
- The puzzles are challenging
- The boss enemies are not that easy to kill
- Option to change voice, I prefer Japanese
- Mysterious characters behind the enemies
- Loading screen has a bit of facts about the background story
- You are not restricted to one or two skills
- You can choose weapons
- You can upgrade skills and weapons

Overall, it's a decent simple game. Challenging and fun. Worth it.

WOW. Just... WOW.

When I was young, jumping pixelated plumbers around my 8-bit NES console, if I had possessed the imagination, this is where I would have dreamed video games would go.

Children of the 80s, we all grew up side-scrolling, objectives maps and combat were all a matter of left and right up and down, and in many ways, that was good enough.

It was a world of games that preceded the three dimensional titles we would see you later.... at that time, I never dreamed of first-person shooters.

To be honest there was a certain magic to it, side-scrolling titles could take you anywhere you wanted to go, you could platform, pilot space fighters, slash sword and axe... ( now that I think about it, duck hunt was a first person shooter, at least technically, from a fixed perspective).

Looking back at some of the titles now, it's almost amazing to see how primitive they were, as I remember the anticipation I felt every time I opened a new cartridge, or the first time I saw the startup screen of a game right now that you can probably play for free on your cell phone.

Not to mention how advanced monitors are now versus then, I have a 55 inch HD screen as my computer monitor, when I was a kid, you could maybe get a 32in CRT television for your Nintendo, or if you were a rich kid, maybe your dad would let you hook the Nintendo up to the Mitsubishi projection TV. We've come a long way. Now that I think about it, when I bought my first PC, I got a Primo monitor for it at Best Buy, spent over $300 on it. The year? 1999. The monitor? A 21-inch CRT, with a 1600 X 1200 resolution. Now for the same money, you can get a 55-inch 4K.

What a great time to be alive.

Back to the point....

I had two other loves when I was young, the first being Godzilla movies.... but a close second to that, was kung fu movies. I took every chance I could get to watch badly overdubbed Asian men engaging in Martial acrobatics and swordplay.

This was an affinity that never left me... I remember many late nights spent watching kung fu of all stripes. And then in my early twenties, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was released. I know every word, every scene.. in my heart I think of it as deep Asian high fantasy. It was the first DVD I ever bought, and the first movie I downloaded illegally from the internet. At this point, I've probably watched it over 200 times, and would do so again right now.

I tend to think that this game intentionally uses the term Hidden Dragon in its title in order to hint to the consumer that you will be taking a trip to a similar territory, but there's another aspect to the game.

Taking another long-winded self-indulgent moment to explain my own life to the reader...

There's a huge Blank Spot in my life, I suppose of about 14 to 15 years, where I didn't play video games at all. The last video game I truly indulged in was Diablo 2, around the year 2001. I was busy running a business, failing at marriage, and watching television shows I didn't like. For years I didn't have a computer, and when I got one again in around 2008, I used it primarily for emerging social media, pirating music, photo editing, and self-stimulation on Lonely Nights.

During this time, the realm of interactive entertainment was not idle. Games went from two to three dimensions, generations of consoles came and went... and I was none the wiser. I found myself bored with television, but I thought that video games were for kids.

Then a couple things happened... I got my first smartphone, and found out all about free mobile games, this reminded me how much fun interactive entertainment was. Then on a whim, as I was shopping at Office Depot I saw a couple games on DVD, Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 collection and Torchlight. I had a computer, it met the specifications, so I figured... "what the hell?" I had no idea what I had missed. After I realized how much fun games were, I started looking into ways to explore without spending any money. I discovered CoolROM, and played a whole bunch of games from the PS2 era. Now I was good and truly hooked, I saw Grand Theft Auto 4 on Amazon for $6.... all I had to do was get a "Steam" account.

3 years, 400+ games and a hot rodded gaming PC later... Maybe I will get to the point.

This game, is everything a kid from my era can ask for. The depth, detail and attention are all there, lavished on a 2d title, which would usually, with the exception fighting games get the short end of the development stick.

I still feel the Wonder I felt watching kung fu movies as a kid and watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as an adult. The cutscenes are absolutely top-notch... In some you feel like you're watching cinematic wire work. They take place in three dimensions, so perhaps it mitigates the fact that the combat doesn't. The opening cinematic is presented in a two-dimensional, comic book /visual novel Style... Also excellent.

In this case 2.5 d means that the characters are rendered in three dimensions as well as the backgrounds, but the action all takes place in two dimensions. The combo system feels very accessible and satisfying, a lot like God of War. Skills, weapons and gear are upgradeable.... I'm not sure if that adds an RPG aspect to the game, but dammit I love being able to upgrade my equipment and add new skills.

I'm not all the way through the game, so I am not completely sure about this, but I think there are obstacles you have to upgrade your skills and equipment to Traverse, meaning you will have to revisit levels more than once to get all the objectives. as happened in many two-dimensional games both past and present, this sort of a tactic borders dangerously close to metroidvania, in this case I think I can forgive it though.... as the game doesn't seem to be making up for anything it's missing my forcing you to play maps more than once... I'd happily play any section multiple times and more than likely will. Also in this vein, there are objects hidden in certain out-of-the-way routes, another common metroidvania staple.... of course this is sort of a tactic is used in many types of games to one degree or another... I know, if this sort of thing bothers me why the hell am I playing a 2-D game? Like I said, it's only an issue if it's boring.

Oh the combat... Juicy.

My early impression, is one of God of War/DMC having an illicit love child with Mortal Kombat... and does it ever work. As with any combo based combat system, you are well rewarded for using complex moves versus button-pushing. There's a left shoulder button Dodge that works for both offense and defense, as I said I'm early on at this point, but I'm pretty sure the Dodge frequency and Effectiveness is upgradeable and I will likely be using it as much as I would use it for a game like Devil May Cry. And even the very first combo move they start you off with, a lifted sword strike paired with a diving sword strike is absolutely brutal, juggling enemies has never been more fun.

if you've read this far you must be a masochist, but suffice it to say that I love this title and I will update the review as I continue my playthrough.

Even at full price this game is a steal.

Get it.

Sort version: A flawed game, no question about it, but the gameplay holds it up and even makes it above average. Well worth the price in my opinion. About 6-7 hours of gameplay, with new difficulties/upgrades to unlock after completion.

Long version: It’s a shame to see this game doing This poorly, it certainly deserves Some attention, but steam just ignored it (I found it by accident on a “less reputable” game site and decided to give it a try, I liked it and bought it, as you do).

It does have quite a few flaws like: bad voice acting (Japanese voices are better as always), cookie cutter story and overall unimpressive sounds design. BUT the one thing that this game focuses on, like any good side scrolling brawler should, is the Gameplay. Its fantastic fun and quite challenging. You have plenty of combos each suited for certain enemies/situations (be aware that you need to unlock them manually to use them) and also a cool little upgrade system that isn’t your typical “now you deal 10x more damage” type of deal; instead it offers either new skills to mess around with, new attributes for your combos or bonuses after certain combat feats. The graphics are also quite nice for the price, the game plays on a 2D plane but it’s fully 3D in certain moments/cutscenes. It has a nice variety of enemies and cool bosses with the good old “at X% health the boss does new stuff” mechanic.

I really do think more polished sound effects and better music could have propelled this game to “great” status, so I do hope we can see more/better from the devs, because I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit.

Cheers.

Wow, how can I start. So many triple AAA games have bored me after a couple of hours... but this game got me. It is not a master piece but it is well done. I have enjoyed it every minute that I have been playing it and trying to get used to combos.... I think I have played to much jrpgs cause my hands keep tripping.
Anyways, I totally recomend this game, because it is FUN. That was games are supposed to be. Some games aspire to be so much more and fail to grasp anything. This one does not promise anything that does not accomplish.
It is a game from a new tiny team, so if you are looking things to critique, you are going to find them for sure. but so far the game has no crash for me, has been FUN enough for me not to stop playing and wanting to find every little secret.
I have been playing this game for a couple of hours with the latest patch and the game is in english. I have the voices in chinese, so I can enjoy it as it was developed.

Graphics: They are good enough, actually for the budget they have I am impressed. check the videos on youtube or steam.

Controls: Simple and responsive. You start with simple combos and you can expand later as you get more abilities. Don´t expect DMC combo system though, but more like GoW from PS.

Music: Good enough, I havent play the game for so long so I havent noticed if it gets repetitive later on :S

Voices: I am using chinese voices, and they seems good. I have not tried english and I will not. I try games in their original language and use subs, thats how I roll.

Difficulty: Easy, any gamer will figure out after a couple of minute where the secrets are but then again, I have not complete the game yet.

There are things that could be improved but on average and with so many games that are so dissapointing this one is a big thumb up.

I hope you guys can enjoy this simple but well done game.

Oh man, this game rules. Feels like you're playing a beat 'em up, Metroidvania-ish version of Crouching Tiger hidden dragon. It's available with English language, you just need to fumble through the menus a little bit or cheack the guide that's on the community hub forums.

Hidden Dragon Legends has a combo system that continues to grow as you play through the game. I found up to my point, by the end of Chapter 1 you feel like a total bad ass parrying attacks and building up meters to perform special attacks while platforming through stages that have surprising depth and verticality. Highly recommend this game.

Awful cliche story with worse voice acting, bland unskippable cutscenes.

I thought that maybe the combat would redeem it, but no, the fighting is the usual light attack heavy attack deal but you can't weave the two together, you have to follow a strict combo of XXXYY and even then the animations make it look like shit. I fought two waves of guys who I spammed heavy attack on while constant tutorial popups instructed me on the most basic things in games. The boss involved me chain stunning him in the corner of the screen until he became invincible and I had to dodge attacks.

There seem to be deeper mechanics later on in the game like combos (that XXXYY combo is the most complex I saw) and powers and spells.

Between the janky animations and very poor beat-em-up mechanics, I can't see more time being put into this be worth $12. I would much rather spend $60 on a good game than a piece of shit like this for even $5

Excellent action rpg thus far. Triple audio with decent voicework and subtitles (english/chinese/japanese), 4k/60fps. Interesting story and characters which are split between chapters that end with a boss fight. New weapons and collectables are spread throughout levels for some replay value. Killing enemies and opening hidden chests also drop orbs that are get used to upgrade skillsets. Tight controls and very approachable combo system which caters to both beginners and veterans, unfortunately controls cannot be remapped so I would suggest using a gamepad. Easy recommendation to fans of games like Strider or action platformer/metroidvania fans in general. Cheers.
