Два года назад остров Граничный оказался в эпицентре крупномасштабной катастрофы. Конгломерат «Новый свет» скрыл информацию о трагедии и теперь пытается исправить последствия.
В рамках этой кампании многочисленных Добровольцев — многие из которых ни разу не держали оружие — отправляют на Граничный, чтобы исследовать паранормальное воздействие катастрофы, собирать информацию и выполнять поручения руководства. Они не готовы к тому, что ждет их на острове.
Игроку предстоит стать Добровольцем, чтобы в одиночку или в команде из четверых исследовать мир с монстрами, аномалиями и непредсказуемыми погодными условиями.

DESOLATE is a first-person survival horror game set on the desolate & mysterious island of Granichny. After a series of failed experiments, the island has become overrun with mutated creatures & strange anomalies. You play as a volunteer tasked with exploring the island, completing missions, & uncovering the secrets behind the disaster. While it offers a tense & atmospheric experience, it's held back by some rough edges & inconsistent gameplay.
The game's atmosphere is one of its strongest points. The island of Granichny is a bleak & unsettling place, with eerie environments & a constant sense of dread. The sound design is also effective, creating a truly immersive & unsettling experience.
The gameplay combines exploration, combat, & survival elements. You'll need to scavenge for resources, craft items, & manage your character's needs, such as hunger, thirst, & sanity. The combat is a mix of melee & ranged weapons, & you'll need to utilize stealth & strategy to survive encounters with the mutated creatures.
One of DESOLATE's interesting features is its focus on cooperative multiplayer. You can team up with other players to explore the island & complete missions together. This can enhance the experience significantly, as you can coordinate your actions & support each other in combat.
However, DESOLATE suffers from some significant flaws. The combat can feel clunky & unsatisfying at times, with unresponsive controls & inconsistent hitboxes. The game also suffers from technical issues, including bugs, glitches, & performance problems. The story, while intriguing, is not particularly well-developed & can be difficult to follow.

While the atmosphere & cooperative multiplayer can be enjoyable, the game's flaws make it a difficult recommendation for all but the most dedicated fans of the genre. It feels like a missed opportunity that could have been much better with more polish & refinement. 😔

Silly combat, derpy enemies, a lot of walking and a huge lack of interesting things to do. What looks good on the surface doesn't always work good in the end

Nothing good about this game honestly
Game play is ok, but I didn't get the story line. Why am I running around collecting things and killing. i did the first pre main game, and still didn't get the point.

So at first glance, the game seems interesting, story is okay, game isn't buggy and graphics are fine.
But the gameplay is just so inexcusably horrible. Game literally punishes you for playing it, with how frustrating every single thing in the game is. Weapons have durability like they were made of cardboard, they literally break apart from 100% durability to 0 after killing just 2-4 enemies so keeping them in a working state is a constant chore. Infections, fractures or other similar debuffs trigger so often, it's not even worth treating them usually even worth it. Fights are also tedious, enemies are constantly dodging, running around, blocking, running away, healing themselves and it's absolutely frustrating to see someone barehandedly blocking attack from a machette from dealing any damage, repeatedly. So despite the combat AI being actually better than it usually is in these types of games, combat feels annoying and boring, not challenging and interesting. There's a lot more of tedious, annoying, boring, horrible or otherwise unpleasant.
There are also jumpscares, which are complete joke. Loud noise plays, ghost spawns, usually somewhere where you are not even looking so you'll miss it and only know something happened either due to sound, or because the achievement pops up.
Despite everything positive or interesting that could be said about the game, the game just isn't enjoyable or fun in any way and it's so annoying, tedious and unpleasant that the bad things absolutely outweight the good ones.
Look, this is not a AAA game, but it's not a bad game either. If it looks interesting to you, give it a try. It's often on sale for under $4. I see it compared to Stalker or Metro -- it's not really either of those but does have some vibes from each. The food and hydration survival mechanic is easy, as there is plenty of food and drink.
What really bugged me was the combat. Enemies are everywhere and I was so frustrated in the beginning because I was done with "sneaking" everywhere. Combat is mostly melee. Ammo is rare. Stealth is so slow................ and even then I was having too many fights. Healing is slow (on normal) and "meds" to heal with are not common. Dying.... running back to find your backpack (no marker).... over and over.... After 2.5 hours I almost uninstalled... But I wanted to explore and see the story. I restarted and set it to easy -- much better and still some challenge. If you just want to see what the game is about, go for easy mode. Otherwise a decent game.
Very fun game worth the price love it.

Animations are a little funky so its hard to fight anything with melee but overall a very good horror game

Game is highly buggy and half baked. the story is good, and has some solid mechanics, however the game plays like crap and there's constantly something broken about it. I'm honestly shocked this isn't an early access game or something, imo not worth the money I'd refund it if I could but I let it sit in my library too long I think
TL:DR Buy only if its under 5$
The Good:
Atmosphere is amazing
Music and voice acting of the protagonist and main quest are great
Some main Quest moments are great.
The Bad:
Game legitimately feels unfinished and abandoned at times. NPCs look worse than oblivion NPCs. No fast travel means half your time will be running like an idiot from one quest to the next. This gets even worse when you have multiple side quests pulling you in different directions, There is a feeling that the Devs tried to combine too many genres in one game and did a poor job at that. You have atmosphere of Stalker, a Fallout map, survival mechanics of the Long Dark, forced unnecessary COOP meaning online features like items always reappearing in places you picked them up and Dark souls respawn at predetermined places, crappy melee centric combat of Dead Island (yes with its crappy melee weapon crafting) and a horrible half baked Gunplay that might as well not be in the game.
I am leaving a positive rating only because the Devs clearly have the talent of making a good game if only they focus their abilities at once specific direction. My advice, dump every other game trope (suvival/coop/crafting/melee etc), focus on Gunplay and make a good Stalker/Fallout clone. You clearly have the talent to craft an awesome dark and spooky atmospheric FPS open world game.
