What is Malfunction?
Malfunction is a puzzle/action game that aims to bring many unique ideas to the table. Malfunction's story evolves around a planet that is being overtaken by a fierce virus known as the 'Plague'. Your objective is to end this corruption from spreading furthermore.Gameplay:
Malfunction will take you on a long riskful journey that'll introduce many friends and foes. With the different characters you play as, you'll be exploring the vastness of 'Khaugin' and it's environments while completing puzzles, gathering materials to survive and conquering the enemies that stand before you.With these playable characters you'll have multiple modes to choose from, each having their own purpose for the right time.
Features:
- 25 levels and 5 chapters with up to 6-8 hours of gameplay
- 3 additional game modes, all of which involve mechanics such as racing through goals, stealth attacking enemies, and fighting waves of enemies/bosses
- 25 collectable journal notes that are found throughout the game. These notes give more depth of Malfunction and it's universe
- 31 Steam achievements for you to earn throughout the game

I am 100% Biased
The TL;DR
It's not bad by any means. Charming, in it's own way :). Some knicks and bumps but they don't really get in the way imo. 10/10
"Deep" Dive
Personally, as i'm a little slow on the draw, I got lost.
It's a "labor of love", and I think that shows. While some of the game play might be a bit questionable, the potential is there. the "charm" comes from the moments that make you go "...Huh?" Because honestly, that brings more character than a game that doesn't make me ask questions. Some of the mechanics are personally a little frustrating, but I can see past that. The dialogue is confusing at times but I think if you have a real wrinkly brain you can make sense of it once you've read it all
It's one of those things that you can forgive it for being the way it is. And you can appreciate what it brings to the table, even if it's a fast-food burger at a barbecue. I got nothin' against it. The characters are charming too. Barloc stans rise up
I'm not gonna sugarcoat and say there's no bugs, but i'm also not sure i've ever played a game that didn't have a single bug/exploit devs either didn't know about or hadn't been able to fix yet. But i fixed most of my problems by simply reloading a save. So I recommend saving often if you're not already in the habit. It's also a bit lacking in directional instruction when it comes to continuing, but you eventually find your way. Nothing too serious.
Now, having not finished i'll have to return to this at a later date. See you in 6 months. But as of now, sitting at chapter 4, it's not bad. I'd recommend it, with an open mind. Definitely looking forward to the sequel :)

Completing The Game
Look at that, I didn't wait 6 months.
Finishing chapter 5 was...interesting to say the least. The ending being very dramatic, not that that is inherently bad. I also have to take into account; for example: the age of the developer during writing and release. Grammar and plot is pretty on par, I can't fault it for that. There were actually some improvements with aforementioned directional instructions that I either hadn't remembered before, was possibly glitched, or was implemented later because of the development time frame. In short, sometimes when you hit a switch/button the next area of exploration was briefly lit up. If that appears earlier on and I forgot then, my apologies. But there still remains some moments where dialogue ends and you are unsure of where you are intended to go.
I did explicitly say I would add my reaction to a specific puzzle within chapter 5, which was basically "That had my balls in a cage and my titties in a twist, I was ready to cry". Because I was given a hint, and subtle reminder, that I had other abilities at my disposal, that was no longer the issue. The issue was trying to remember to aim slightly to the right as the reticle didn't exactly ensure my aim, and for some reason the occasional shot would go right through. Mildly infuriating (?) but I made it through.
From that point on it flowed fine apart from a few small glitches, but they didn't exactly hinder continuation and were easily fixable if they didn't just eventually fix themselves. Albeit a bit wonky and rough around the edges, it's still got a charm being somewhat reminiscent of stories I came up with in my own head when I was younger. It's just those "dreams" being a reality. Overall, still not a "bad" game.
Original story, great graphics, awesome atmosphere! The game is rich with not only challenges but complex puzzles, fun battle system and great sound effects! It puts you in a world, the world that it wants to express to you..no other game I have played was able to achieve it.
Such a great game for such a great price!! Don't miss out on such a great game!
This is a fun, chill, and interesting game from a dedicated solo developer. It has a story campaign as well as three action/arcade modes. The campaign is enjoyable and well fleshed out with a good mix of action, adventure, puzzle solving, and exploration. I did encounter a few game breaking bugs in my playthrough but the developer was very responsive and helped me out so I could finish without issue.
Overall, it's not perfect but I I enjoyed time playing this and found it engaging. Malfunction took me back to the classics of the early MS-DOS era of PC gaming.
Malfunction is a serious game.
This action adventure game has atmosphere that can not be easily described.Hard, oppressive, intense atmosphere.Plot and storyline is amazing and i really hope that the game will have a sequel.It has to be noted that it is made entirely by one person.Sound effects are basic but the music is excellent.The greatest value of Malfunction lies within the depth of it's storyline and interesting ever changing gameplay that contains exploration, puzzle-solving and combat.Tarantino's way of presenting story is another plus.
Includes Obstruction mode that consists of several mini-missions based mostly on combat.
Achievments are interesting and obtainable.
Game has serious support, personally i will always support this developer for his commitment to his product and customers.
