As much as I wanna try and like this, I really can't. Maybe it's just me but the story is far too strange and nonsensical. I can't even explain the story as I didn't know what was going on half the time. It's weird but it's the bad kind of weird. The music's pretty okay though!
Pink Rage Otome is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game.
This e-book was slapped together with the godawfully bad RenPy Visual Novel/E-Book construction kit, so just like no professional writing took place here, no professional game development took place either, it's just a product of filling out templates in the construction kit.
This E-Book has been translated from Russian into English... badly. If this was done through Google Translate, Google Translate should feel ashamed of itself. Regardless, the language in this game is broken and will put off a lot of gamers.
I guess on the positive side, the Russian e-book wannabe author at least credited all the artwork, sound and other stuff he ripped off. Usually this stuff isn't credited, making the effort an asset flip/plagiarism, so, way to go for something ethical happening from one of these amateurs for a change.
Getting past all that, the e-book itself is pure Russian (pretending to be Japanese) garbage. It's got a lame anime fan-fiction forced "humour" plot about being a "tsundere" girl, and to translate that from weeb, that means it's about a girl who acts aloof but isn't. That's a lot of mental gymnastics from the weebs for a pretty lame fiction trope.
Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage.
Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book.
You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
The poor quality of this E-Book is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak reader number was only 5 readers. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only reader activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality E-Book is to be expected.
Pink Rage Otome is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the E-Book, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Even though this is a very cheap game, I would advise against buying it. The english translation is bad to the point of making it impossible to properly understand - let alone enjoy - the game. Some of the character designs are also rather jarring, and the art is mediocre at best.
Turning on the in-game Microsoft TTS caused my friends mental and physical distraught.
This game had a really intriguing storyline, it was nice to see how all of them came together. Needless to say with all the different paths the fact that there are 78 achievements makes alot of sense. You can tell that alot of thought and care went into making this game, down to the translations. If anything else came out from these creators I would gladly play it without a second thought. I hope that many others will play this and enjoy it as I recommend it.
Listen, don't judge this by the fact that it's $0.99. I fucking LOVED this game. It was a wild ride from start to finish. I was never NOT engaged with the story or characters.
Does the art look a little wonky? Sure, but I think it's got its own charm. Learning about the mystery of the Great Trial and the circumstances around Horror's death was really fascinating to me!
100% recommend. If there was ever a sequel, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. (plz devs)
My previous experience playing otome games has been on cell, so this was a different feel. I was very confused, the boxes on the map didn't make sense to me at first. I clicked on random and didn't receive enough points for one character. I had a lot of luck following a great walk-through guide and I was able to find all the different choices through external help. I think I would have struggled without the guide, so this is definitely not for new players.
Otherwise the story was very interesting and I really enjoyed the different character backgrounds. I would recommend this to someone who wants a short play-time and something with a complex story to dissect.
It ain't good.
The plot is an interesting concept, but isn't nearly detailed enough and leaves a lot unsaid.
I somehow managed to get multiple bad endings before following a guide to get a proper ending, which still didn't fulfill many expectations.
I think I bought it on sale for like 50 cents, so worth the price I guess?
[[A note to all potential players, if you're like me and get a bit click-happy (I'm not sure if the instructions state this) if you wish to save the game, you can at ANY point by clicking the right mouse button. I was going mad for a while thinking I could not save, so the game could do with an intergrated save/menu button.]]
I am so torn in regards to this game. I don’t know if I really liked it or if I am completely infuriated by it. It has a lot of positives and for the brief amount of time it took to complete, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it.
Without giving too much information away, as with most otome style games, there are good ending routes and bad ending routes. There are multiple routes to be unravelled in this game. However, I felt like even with the “good ending” I got at first, the story was left unfinished and I was quite irritated by the lack of information, especially as a majority of the story had been so descriptive. Of course, I’m trying not to give anything away but I want to be as honest as possible.
There are some really big positives to this game. I like most of the characters. The style is different and I like the mashup between the cute and Goth style. I know there’s a Japanese word for this, but I can’t remember! However, I found the main character “Horror” and her sort-of pal “Chaos” a little bit too childish. Even rebellious teenagers aren’t that rude to each other…some of the attitude just seemed poorly written.
The soundtrack is good (although a little repetitive at times) and I like the theme. I just think it needed more development. Parts of it feel a little incomplete, like the designers got a bit bored and just wanted to get it done and over with, which is a shame, because for the majority it’s quite good.
The text has obviously been translated into English and there are some very apparent grammatical mistakes. Unlike some other games, it doesn’t really affect the enjoyment but they could so easily be corrected it’s a shame that they have been left.
This game, however, is ridiculously cheap. Less than the price of a mars bar from my local convenience store, so for that reason, I am going to give the game a thumbs up, simply because I did enjoy it whilst I was playing it. However, be warned. The game is extremely short and you may feel like you’ve been cheated out of a full story. It does actually improve once you've started unlocking everything but sometimes the text is a bit confused, the idea is there but it does not feel entirely resolved. Perhaps this is intentional?
I do really like the artwork though!
Ugh. The translation is awful, the plot hard to follow, the characters are vapid and the plethora of achievements are completely illogical without providing any more incentive to play. This is the second game in my library remanded to my "crap" folder for unplayablility. Don't waste your time.
I'm trying to decide if this game is bad on purpose. I really wanted to like it because the premise sounded interesting, but the writing (or rather, the translations?) is just terrible. I got the sense that it's aiming for tween girls rather than women in general because the humor is juvenile and at times mean. The art is cute, but not enough to save this. I seriously cannot play this game any more, it's doing my head in.
I was honestly conflicted on whether to reccomend this. I'm going to say no, despite the cheap price, because it is practically unplayable. The controls are fine, no glitches, and such. What I understood of the story wasn't half bad. That's pretty much all the positive I can give. There were gaping plot holes made worse by the fact that the translation is pretty horrendous. I've played a lot of badly translated games, and this was probably one of the worst. I constantly found myself skimming sections in hopes of being able to decipher from the next dialogue what it is that they are talking about, only to be even more lost. There really wasn't much funny, though I definitely saw where they tried and it was ruined by the poor translation. Would love to see this polished and remade in the future, since the premise is cute. For now, I really can't reccomend it :(
I actually really enjoyed this game. I liked all the characters and music and found it really cute and sweet.
The achievements were rather annoying and I wish there was a CG gallery.
The story is short and kinda interesting but sadly there's some grammar errors that quite kill the story. But to me for that price I think this game is worth it.
This is honestly one of the best pieces of entertainment I have ever seen. You play as Horror, an interesting spin on the tsundere archetype navigating through the world of Japan to complete the Trial -- a grueling gauntlet where spirits of the afterlife must compete against one another for a shot at redemption, similiar to Gantz. The unique riveting writing of this original cast of characters is very close to my heart and the distinct artstyle leaves me craving more after my 5th playthrough of each complex route and it's harrowing consequences. Without a doubt, this game is an absolute gem that deserves to be cherished by anyone looking for a diamond in the dollar bin. Forget Stein's Gate, or Katawa Shoujo; Pink Rage Otome blows them out of the water. Buy this game, NOW.
Not bad at all!
This is a visual novel that follows the classic patterns - choices between two options, lengthy dialogues, nice graphics, and you have to make your way through the dialogues and not by exploring some kind of world - although there's a small city environment.
Unfortunately, as with other visual novels there's no gallery page in which to see artworks and so on.
I think (being the game bilingual) that it was written in Russian, 'cos there are some errors in English, but it's really not important.
Quite fun to read, the story isn't that complex or brilliant but still enjoyable to me.
I hate wapanese cultures so I don't stick with terms like otome or nakige or yaoi or whatever you want. I prefer to play everything with my European perspective.
So, the plot is nice and the dialogues too; it can get boring after one hour but it's worth it if you're into visual novels in general :)
I like this game a pretty good bit. =) I got about 2 hrs of play time with using the skip button so for a .99 cent game it was pretty good also the story was fairly interesting. =D I definitely recommend it ^_^
Played Character Route Order: Wolf ◈ Red ◈ Chaos ◈ Bunny
Pink Rage Otome is fairly short and the Otome content, or rather the romance, is only vaguely present and very innocent, childlike even. I got the feeling that this Visual Novel was written for a very young audience, as the story is almost unbearable ridiculous. The humor felt kind of childish and incredibly forced. It's as if someone is telling a bad joke and tries desperately to be funny but nobody laughs. I know that feeling because that happens to me quite often, so I kind of sympathize with the writer.

Admittedly, Pink Rage Otome was amusing to read at first, but it quickly started to bore the hell out of me. Maybe I'm simply too old for this kind of humor? I really don't know.
The quality of the translation is terrible. It's not the worst attempt at translating a Visual Novel into English I've ever encountered by any means, but it is still pretty awful. A gallery for CGs doesn't exist along with other game mechanics that are kind of indispensable for a Visual Novel nowadays. For what it's worth, the artwork is quite pretty, especially the CGs. Unfortunately, that's the only positive aspect this Visual Novel has to offer.

Pink Rage Otome bunches dull humor, poor storytelling, and an awful translation together, which is not a good combination for an Otome or games in general. Neither pretty artwork nor a cheap price is a good excuse for that.

I won't play it again - I got the perfect, most feel-good romance ending I was looking for with a cute character.
But its pretty short - I like the bunny man best <3
It's a fun game - super short if you read fast like me but it's less than a $1 right now so I would say buy it.
It's really interesting and it's good for the price - even the art isn't as weird as some cheap games! <3
I really enjoyed this game but I have to say there are a lot of grammer errors or the language just doesn't sound correct. If you can look past that I highly recommend it.
