Back to Where It All Began
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
There was a time when the world felt simpler—when my biggest concern wasn’t work or responsibilities, but how to survive Cold War Crisis’s campaign without getting my entire squad wiped out. I spent entire days lost in this game as a kid, replaying missions over and over, trying new tactics, and when that wasn’t enough, I’d dive into the mission creator, crafting my own battles and scenarios, letting my imagination run wild.
Now, booting up ARMA: Cold War Assault all these years later, it’s like stepping into a time machine. The blocky graphics, the stiff animations, the radio chatter that I memorised line-for-line—it all comes rushing back. It’s not just a game; it’s a piece of my childhood. And despite all the advances in gaming, there’s something about this experience that still feels unmatched. The tension, the realism, the sheer unpredictability of every firefight—it’s just as gripping as it was back then.
For those of us who grew up with it, this isn’t just an old-school military sim. It’s a piece of history, a reminder of long summer afternoons spent planning the perfect ambush, of mission editor experiments gone horribly wrong, of that one botched stealth mission I swore I’d get right "just one more time."
11/10—because some games aren’t just games. They’re memories.
Western propaganda.
This is a trip down nostalgia lane 🥲 So many memories and hours spent in the editor and with mods back in the early 2000s, such as the Warhammer mod , zombie mods , etc.
I remember it being so damn scary when my brother and I played a co-op mission and had to try and avoid/escape zombies in pitch dark while fixing a truck.
And I remember making the most stupid missions in the editor as a kid, e.g., trying to cram as many crashing planes and Russians screaming "vodka" and "mama" as possible into one area 😅
Of course, the original campaigns were also amazing (and insanely difficult) at the time.
Arma: Cold War Assault (formerly Operation Flashpoint) is a tactical military shooter offering immersive Cold War-era combat. With realistic mechanics, large open maps, and a focus on strategy.
Back when white people still made videogames
:3
Arma 3, but good
gay ass game, hate americans
Typical Arma:
3 is down
2 is down
Oh no, 7 is down
5 is down
3 taking command
Very clunky and can get super buggy but the story is great and the solo missions still stand up I love the time period and weapons.
10/10
For sure one of the ARMA games
They don't make em like this anymore
its a piece of fucking shit
my first Arma game and its the best one in my biased opinion
Its a great game for a low end computer and is pretty fun making ur own maps and stuff
Oldie but still great
great game
Held up surprisingly well, worth a play
k
The premise, concept, and focus on realism are commendable, but the numerous bugs, clunky controls, and persistent "out of memory" errors — even on a high-end PC — make this a frustrating experience.
2 O' CLOCK - MAN - 200
SOLDIER - IS HISTORY
pretty enjoyable but ultimately WILL give you whiplash from how old it is. nevertheless worth it if this sort of game is up your alley. you'd manage
Probably one of my favorite games. It has 5 large maps to screw around on, and it can be made even better with mods (Most mods for this game are lost to history, but there is a few dozen left on ModDB.) Before you play, you should know it takes a while to figure out how to play this.
Вспомнил старые добрые времена OFP
Cool
ngl i broke it
My childhood game,love it!
The game that taught me the true meaning of "realism" in gaming. I mean, who needs a social life when you can spend hours trying to get a tank to move 5 feet without getting stuck in a ditch?
In all seriousness, ARMA: Cold War Assault is a game that will test your patience, your skills, and your sanity. But if you're up for the challenge, it can be incredibly rewarding. The game's attention to detail is impressive, with realistic military tactics and equipment that will make you feel like a real soldier (minus the whole "getting shot at" thing).
One of the things I loved about the game is the sense of immersion. The environments are beautifully rendered, and the sound design is top-notch. I found myself getting completely absorbed in the game world, even when I was stuck in a never-ending loop of "try to get tank unstuck, fail, repeat."
Of course, the game isn't without its flaws. The controls can be clunky at times, and the AI can be a bit wonky. But overall, I found that the game's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses.
So, would I recommend ARMA: Cold War Assault to others? Absolutely. But only if you're a glutton for punishment. If you're looking for a game that will challenge you, frustrate you, and maybe even make you cry a little (I'm not ashamed to admit it), then ARMA: Cold War Assault is the game for you.
this game feels like im using mouse 2 wiimote input
no
Old school game, felt realistic when I was 18 years old, frustratingly hard, buggy at times
Amazing game. Must play.
it has civilian 3-wheeler, and civilian NPCs. forests, trucks, mountains, and off-roading. very relaxing. very tranquil.
Silly game by today's standards but it has a decent campaign
As far as old PC games go, this one has aged pretty well. I didn't run into a lot of issues running it, and had a general amount of fun. The expansion packs are included, so it's pretty decent in length if you're looking for story as well.
Operation Flashpoint it's a piece of gaming history. Its emphasis on realism, strategy, and player choice has influenced countless games that followed. Whether you're a fan of military simulations or simply looking for a challenging and rewarding experience, this game is a must-play. Its legacy is well-deserved, and it remains one of the best examples of the genre to this day.
