Nice game! its a flying shooter with some cool elements. Its kinda like flying in an Iron Man suit shooting enemies and destroying towers in an alien world.

Played the first level, and part of the 2nd one in coop and it was honestly super fun, the movement is fluid and easy to get a hang of, i played with my kid and he didnt have a problem understanding the basics of the game.

Ive encountered at least a couple of things/mechanics that made me go "woah that was cool" and made the game worth it just for that.

World is nice to explore, maps feel big, but there is really not much to find, i did enconter some crystals(?) i could grab but no idea what they do.

The gameplay is fun, the movement is fluid and smooth, graphics are pretty nice, performance with a gtx1080 was acceptable.

I did buy this game before it went free to play, but that allowed me to get it for my son and play together, the campaign is "basic" as in there arent many things to do, but its really entertaining, simple and to the point you might say.

Easy to recommend because its free, works perfectly fine (with Vive and Index) with no major Bugs.

You cant hit anything with your given weapons and the movement meachanics means you can't keep your course and shoot at the same time. Also you are going to smack shit whether thats the roof, wall or your shelf is up to chance.

Most of the time in Run of Mydan I had no idea what the hell was going on, but I was entertained. Not gripped though. This game was ok.

The environments are HUGE and it was fun exploring them, even though I found many, many glitches. The weapons were tough to use, the reticles suck, the grenade sucked to use in this game.

Suddenly I'm piloting a dragon. That was pretty choice.

I paid $3.18 for this, and that's about what it is worth to me. Don't pay more than $4 though, it's a pretty simple endeavour.

free and fun, I got it for a dollar but since has gone F2P. worth playing though it only has about 2 hours of single player campaign content (which is perfectly acceptable for the FREE price tag it currently has)

I can't recommend this game as it currently exists; it just made me terribly motion sick. I had to quit halfway through the tutorial. Maybe by the time you read this review, the game will handle motion better, but I can't recommend it as of right now.

only 3 bucks. pretty cool flying. However needs snap turn. Not everyone has a wireless headset and asking the player to rotate physically at all times is a recipe for disaster especially in action games (trip on wire and fall in real life...)

My review is based on the single player campaign.

First of all many of the older reviews state that this is a on rails shooter. This isn't true of what the game is now. It's a free flying strategic shooter that is the closest thing we have to a super hero game on steam (think superman or iron man or neo vs agent smith but primarily a shooter). There is also a race like obsticle course level.

I got into vr a few months ago after getting the Valve index system which I love. I've been bingeing on steam sales and now own over 200 vr titles, I have also played the top Oculus exclusives. Run of Mydan is definitely in the top ten, if not top five of my favorite vr games. It's not perfect and needs more content but this is one of the most fun vr experiences I've had. Highly recommended.

          for the devs:

          More content please!?

A brief flight speed boost on ocassion could add a new dynamic to the game.

Possibly more weapons even if they are tempory after picking up. Or limited ammo that has to be hunted for special weapons.

The enemies are cool but more and more challenging could be interesting.

Keep up the awesome work, I'm excited to see where you take things.

A Fly-Around Shooter With An Interesting Art Style.
This is being played on an Oculus Rift, with an i7-8700/16GB RAM/1070Ti, on Single Player/Campaign Mode.
The first time I played this, in early 2018, it was on on-rail shooter with a a well-put together polygonal art-style (to myself, Roman-style influence). It was an okay experience; another rail shooter in a sea of them at the time; played for 30 minutes and walked away. Because of its art direction, I thought I would come back to it one day.
          Fast forward 8 months.
Coming back to this game gave me an imaginary feeling, like what Captain America felt like after being defrosted, looking at the world, and wondering 'how in hades did gas prices get so high?'

Run of Mydan, at least in single player, is an interesting, exciting experience. Thoughts on the following areas are as follows:

CONTROLS: The flight controls remind me of the game 'Detached', in that hand/arms movements dictate how you fly around (e.g., the further you stick your arms out in front of you, the faster you fly forward). If you stick only one arm out, you move more slowly. These controls make me feel more like Suoerman than the game 'Megaton Rainfall'. My primary gripe is that there seems to be no Smooth Turning option. Snap turning is very jarring/abrupt to myself, and often an immersion breaker. I use Snap Tuning very sparingly, instead relying on 360 tracking. 360 tracking works very well, and I often find myself moving all over the place (occassionally into a wall).
Being able to fly faster going down (compared to going up) would be cool.

SHOOTING: Some sort of Laser Pointer would be welcome, as the default reticule basically forces you to have the controller in front of your face (which is realistc). Over time I've learned to estimate where I'll be shooting at because the default reticule makes me feel like I should be sniping.
The Rifle/machine gun choice I don't use because of the 7-second ramp-up time for a 4-second burst. The default guns are just easier to deal with. I haven't even tried the grenade yet.

GAMEPLAY: In single-player, the enemies are either 'ariel drones', 'agreesive fish' or 'flying enemies with guns or arrows (I've only gotten to the 2nd level, I think (I have 7(?) portal gates I need to open, and can go underwater), and seem to respawn on a periodic basis. Not much in terms of variety, but the periodic respawning keeps me on my toes. With the 360 tracking, the enemies fly all around you, often forcing me to be physically on the move (I like that!).
The basic level objectives seems to be destroying 'towers', collecting power-ups, fighting enemies, before pulling a 'Carol-Anne' (think the 1980s movie, Poltergeist: "Head towards the light') to exit the level.
The size of the level is enormous (but not infinite; you will get a shimmering barrier wehn you go too far). So flying around gives you a wonderful sense of scale.

SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT: By the time you get to the end of a level, I felt like I covered a small part of a larger universe (not a bad thing). The story, if there is one (I really couldn't tell), does not make me feel like I've grown as a character, and am left with only a feeling of 'move along to the next level'. In terms of moving around in a virtual world, there is a huge sense of accomplishment.

ART DESIGN: Absolutely like it! It doesn't concern itself with photo-realism., but goes after a polygonal, sparsely populated world, that alllowed me to enjoy what i was doing, rather than fret about 'looks like a game from the Atari Jaguar'. The sparse design approach often inspires me to 'fill in the blanks' about what a more fully-fleshed out version of the world might looks like.

Bottom Line: After an 8-month sabbatical from a game I wasn't sure I would return to, I find myself with a mission to get through the single-player game at least. Nicely done, developers.

October 2018: This was fun, especially the dragon-riding level. I'm torn, because I wouldn't actually recommend $10 for a game like this with less than an hour playtime. My compromise is to give it a thumbs-up for now, with the hope that the single player expansion happens in the next handful of months.

This game came out around my birthday last year. Not only am I just now hearing about it, but it plays like it hasn't been out for that long. Take the following with a grain of salt, but I'm not even gonna TRY the multiplayer if my experience with the single-player "story" is anything to go off of.

          Pros:

-Decent visuals, if a bit of an eyesore with all the colors and movement on screen at any given time.

          -Weapons do good damage.

-Movement system works very well for what it wants to be.

          Cons:

-Weapons felt consistently and annoyingly difficult to aim. It always felt like shots were going too far off-center, and the grenade NEVER went where I expected it to.

-Weapon selection and functionality were lackluster (a machine gun that needs roughly 7 seconds to recharge after firing for about 4; a charged grenade that sometimes seemed to explode very early mid-flight; and a charged rocket that shoots off so fast I could barely tell where it went, making me have a harder time adjusting my aim than with the machine gun).

-With all that goes on in your vision at any given moment, it's ridiculously hard to see where some enemies are, and where shots are coming from. The game also doesn't tell you what direction damage is coming from, making you more likely to die quickly if you didn't see it coming in the first place.

-Making the previous point even worse, you can't take a f***ing hit. The first boss of the story can easily kill you in two or 3 hits while you try to figure out how to beat it, and the next boss has an attack that one-shots you no matter what if it hits you, moves faster than you, and covers most of the available space for movement. The only upside of that attack is that it is extremely telegraphed, so you can easily dodge it after seeing it just once.

-The game is described as a "flying VR shooter with refreshing unique mechanics", and yet most of the story is on-rails, only getting to fly around freely during the second boss and the last "running" scene. I've also seen several of the mechanics in other VR games (shields function similar to those from From Other Suns, hand-based propulsion free-flying is almost exactly the same as in Lone Echo/Echo Arena, firing at glowing weak points is nearly every boss to ever exist), so they're not exactly "unique".

-Speaking of story, you see how I've played less than an hour? That's how long it took me to beat it in it's current state, unless the game just bugged and wouldn't let me continue past the "To be continued" screen. For being out for nearly a year now, the game has that little to offer in terms of single-player content.

-The sounds are kinda generic, and all of the music tracks are just the same few seconds repeating over and over.

-There was a giant f***ing flying serpent, which looked awesome. It wouldn't let me fight said giant flying serpent.

Collecting all the gameplay cons together, I died 20 times before I beat the current single-player content.

That aside, overall it LOOKS good and sounds like a good idea on paper. But in order for it to go anywhere, it needs more content, better sound design, rebalancing the aiming of weapons, and better visual design so you can see when things are coming at you BEFORE they're 6 feet away from you. Yes I realize this is Early Access, but considering the last update was made in November, I don't see much more happening here.

Okay its a good on-rails shooter with the ability to move left and right to dodge enemy fire and obsticles.
There are parts where the game gives you the ability of free flight to get past an enemy / boss
There is a seperate multi-player arena with free flight ability available.
What I did like about the single player part was the sense of going up as the world curves up but even better was the sense of falling when the world doubled back on it’s self.
I did not want an on-rails shooter.
I did not like the multi-player arena.
This game was just not for me.

This is a great VR game that offers tons of modes: singleplayer, multiplayer, horde. You can even customize your player.
I'm very impressed by the visuals and the polishing. The huge bosses in VR were something amazing to see!
Also, while you wait for mutiplayer you can play singleplayer while still being visible online. This is a great alternative to all the waiting in the lobby that other games make you do.
The title is still in early access and is constantly being updated. Can't wait to see more!

Fantastic VR game. Impressive and beautiful visuals and overall solid gameplay, starts slowly, with your avatar chained to a flying rock but then builds up and soon you'll find yourself surrounded by mortal danger :D
Feels already quite polished for an Early Access title and has a striking visual style that works very well with current generation VR screens. Ultimately highly recommended, thumbs up!

I'm only reviewing the single player experience. I did not mess around with the multiplayer and honestly, not many games in VR will succeed with PvP, in fact, only very few will given the low player base to begin with. So don't buy this game for the PvP experience unless you have a friend with VR.

So I did not understand what people were talking about when they were reviewing this game. Some talk about an on-rails experience and others are talking about flying around. What gives? Well, the answer is that neither description is accurate. You don't really have free movement because you're chained to a platform. You can select different movement options, but the normal movement option is to move your hands to where you want to go and press grip. So you can move freely at times.

However, you cannot always freely move. It just depends on the location. So while you're usually constantly moving forward, you can move from side to side. And there are times where you will stop movement all together. And there will be times where your movement will be predetermined.

Regardless, you will be using different tactics depending on the circumstances. You can be shooting with a gun like attachment on your hands. Or you can be throwing a powerful ball at your enemies (seriously). Or you can use your shields. And of course, you can move around your platform to dodge, duck, side step enemy attacks. Many of the environments are destructible. Enemies can get behind you. Basically, you're controlling a lot of different variables making sure you get rid of the biggest threats and avoid damage as much as possible.

This game is fun. I think the whole chained to a platform is an interesting mechanic on how to deal with the problems inherent in VR. It definitely feels different than most other VR titles. You do have to think on your feet or die enough times to figure out how you're supposed to tackle the problems presented. This is more about strategy and attention to detail, than about quick reflexes or twitch aiming.

The game is very promising! It features a challenging singleplayer campaign and a solid multiplayer. I love the whole flying thing, it's hard at first, bit it just takes a bit of practice. You need to use your entire body to fly well. Overall, this game is probably the one that makes me sweat the most... You constantly need to move!

EDIT: the first level boss is not as difficult nor random as I thought. Just be aware that blades are still deadly when they don't move! I edited my review to reflect this point.

Tl;drThe game is pure fun, and at times very difficult and unforgiving

Run of Mydan is best characterized as a "weaponized endless runners with boss fights" (At least on the first 3 levels. Apparently this changes later on and you can fly around freely!). you are shackled to a platform you can steer left and right, albeit slowly. The platform moves relentlessly forward until it reaches one of the end-level bosses. As a player you have to avoid various obstacles set in your path and fight off various foes using an energy ball, a javelin or an energy shot (the last two are unlocked on later levels). There is no randomization in the level layouts but the movement of the various foes do varyi for each run, so muscle memory will help a lot to reach the end of the level, but the player still needs to be aware of his surroundings.
Visually the game is actually stunning. Its consistent use of flat-shaded textured polygons works in its favour, both in depicting beautiful surreal landscapes and in keeping the framerate up. Soudwise you get a healthy share of (imo very good and fitting) electronic tunes, and sparse but well suited sound effects.

Gameplay-wise the game is a mix of fun, awe, and frustration. The difficulty variies a lot within single levels( ranging from super easy to eye-gouging difficult). So far I only have faced the first level boss, so I can only judge from him, but winning against him took some trivial guessing as to his weak point and some (in hindsight) easy jumping/moving.

Which brings us to the save points. Each level is split in segments and dying within one segment will warp you back to its beginning. Most of the time this works fine, but for some reason dying in a boss fight brings you back quite a bit, which means you have to repeat segments you already know by heart before you can fight the boss again. Not a game breaker but it can be frustrating, especially when winning against the boss seems to be based on pure luck.

All in all it is a very enjoyable game though, quite difficult at times and definitely a good workout (throwing the energy ball with enough force in the correct direction definitely takes its toll, and so does avoiding the foes and obstacles)

Of course, being EA, the game might change a lot until full release, so some (most?) of the criticism might be irrelevant soon'ish, but even in its current state the game is well worth the money imo.
