it's pretty standard for a TT game
I'm a grown adult, probably 10-15 years older than the average person here. I was a (now ex-)ironic fan of season 1, and I went into season 2 fully expecting to find something new to laugh and cringe at.
What I didn't expect was to end up with tears in my eyes and a sinking feeling in my chest when this game got too real, too relatable, about the painful changes of losing friends, discovering who you yourself are as a person, and the hard choices we must make as we inevitably grow up.
I can tell this game was made with a lot of love, even though the devs had to cut out some of the more adult/darker themes they originally wanted to add in. Unlike most other TTG titles, some major events (such as character deaths) can happen based on your choices in the episode *prior* to the one you're currently playing. As a result, it has some replay value.
I understand that the VA for Lukas had to suddenly go, but I'm glad it did happen, as it allowed for the new S2 characters to take up more screentime and grow naturally as the story went on. Jack, for example, is a much more mature character compared to S1's main cast, and goes through the most mature themes (such as trauma from friends dying). The game touches on this without dragging it out, while still keeping the portrayals of trauma both realistic and respectful.
Radar is an excellent character for the MCSM universe. He goes through the most heaviest of personality/growth changes. Whoever didn't strangle his VA to death as soon as he started reading lines in the recording studio: thank you, because you allowed for a memorable main character to grow and change in a way that didn't feel rushed or forced, and shocked even the biggest Radar haters into admitting he's actually likeable.
And Romeo.. where to begin? Although his behaviour is immature, it's almost a shame that he's "just" in a game made for kids, there's a lot to say about him and the other characters of this story, although this is getting long enough. His controlling, bridge-burning, black and white attitudes are themes that are unfortunately more relevant to today's online world that is increasingly relying on online friendships that can be blocked/deleted at any time..
I really enjoyed how this is a rare case of an antagonist who (generally speaking) genuinely enjoys most trash-talking, snarky dialogue options that the player can choose, receiving it as the most positive dialogue of them all, while hating on anything appealing to peace and reason - and it fits his combative character perfectly. It makes interacting with him fun. I also appreciated the little details of his desire for Jesse, such as him giving Jesse a stronger sword when forcing the player to fight his then-Champion.
From an objective standpoint: petra best girl. I do not need to elaborate, we all agree on this.
Looking at this from an adult's perspective, it's hard not to notice some comparisons to Gods (Admins) and Hell (below the bedrock). But maybe I'm looking too much into it. Either way, the settings are memorable and interesting to think about.
Finally, big love to Antimo & Welles for making a fantastic soundtrack to fit any scene in this surprisingly emotionally complex game.
Years on after first watching a playthrough of S2, I'm now playing it myself, and after the cabin scene made my heart hurt yet again, I realised I needed to type out some love for this game. Thanks for bringing me comfort in some hard times. Big love to the community, which I haven't been a part of for years (under a different name), but I hope it is still as wholesome, light-hearted and supportive as it used to be around 2019~, keeping at least one corner of the internet genuinely positive. I wish you all the best.
bring back mc story mode and bring me a season three!
fun while lasted and by lasted it lasted about 2 hours and ended, you might wonder why i have 140 hours on the game, this is a cry for help i have no clue i bought this a LOOONG time ago

I miss this
The REAL Minecraft movie.
My only hope now is that the Minecraft Movie spurns the development of Season 3.
