I'm not a person for story when it comes to games (since gameplay is better] and movies bore me), but this has the best story from all the games i played so far, and another +100 points for also being part of the borderlands series. This game had me from laughing my butt off to having a sad heart felt moment. This game is fantastic and i'm kicking myself for never playing this earlier game. 11/10 Extremely highly recommended.
Tales from the Borderlands is a choice-driven narrative game that prioritises storytelling over gameplay — a hallmark of Telltale's style. While this format is familiar to fans of Telltale, it's executed so well here that even if the choices don't significantly alter the overall plot, the journey remains compelling. The writing is sharp, hilarious, and fits seamlessly within the Borderlands universe, showing just how well Telltale understood the source material and its lore.
Despite Borderlands being primarily a looter-shooter — a genre not exactly known for deep storytelling — Tales from the Borderlands proves there was untapped narrative potential all along. Telltale took what was essentially a chaotic, loot-filled world and carved out a genuinely engaging and heartfelt story. THIS is the true Borderlands diamond pony.
The characters are instantly likeable, the voice acting is top-tier, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. Each episode's title card sequence is a standout moment, blending music and visuals in a way that elevates the storytelling. It genuinely feels like a cinematic experience, filled with moments of humour, tension, and emotional payoff. Even though the gameplay is mostly dialogue choices, occasional quick-time events, and simple puzzles, it never feels boring. In fact, the branching choices sometimes lead to wildly different scenes, which adds a lot of replay value and makes your decisions feel meaningful.
The story unfolds at a brisk pace with plenty of twists, flashbacks, and action-packed sequences. With two protagonists — Rhys, a Hyperion employee, and Fiona, a clever Pandoran con artist — the game cleverly shows different perspectives of the same events, adding depth and variety to the narrative. The dialogue is witty and often laugh-out-loud funny, capturing the trademark Borderlands humour without ever feeling forced.
Telltale nailed the aesthetic, too. The fusion of Borderlands' cel-shaded style with Telltale's comic book visuals works perfectly. The UI, opening credits, and menus all echo the vibe of the mainline Borderlands games, making the whole experience feel authentic and familiar to long-time fans.
If you've played Telltale games before, you'll know what to expect — strong writing, memorable characters, and impactful moments delivered through a mostly passive gameplay format. But what's truly impressive is how well this game fits into the chaotic, loot-obsessed world of Borderlands and still manages to tell one of the best stories the franchise has ever seen. Honestly, Tales from the Borderlands might be the Borderlands movie we never got — and possibly never will. It certainly is the best Borderlands game.
But, keep in mind while I recommend the game in itself, Borderlands, under the stewardship of Take-Two and 2K Games, recently underwent a quiet but deeply concerning change: their Terms of Service and End User License Agreement were updated to allow what can only be described as spyware-level data collection. This includes harvesting your name, email address, IP address, browser history, and more. It's a blatant invasion of privacy — and even worse, it's coming from a company that, due to its size and visibility, is a constant target for data breaches and leaks. With this kind of access, your personal information — potentially even financial details — could be at serious risk. Please take a look at Hellfire's video, "Take Two Spies on Borderlands Players" if you're American, and maybe hold off on clicking "buy" — at least until the EULA gets a much-needed rollback.
Easily one of the best stories in the whole Borderlands series. The characters are fun, the writing is sharp, and it actually made me care more about the universe. The gameplay is just classic Telltale stuff, but the choices hit hard and the pacing never drags. There's one part, and those who know will know, that genuinely made me emotional, the first time a game ever did that.
Amazing game and story. Love the music too.
Great game set in the borderlands universe. Well done.
You see what you get, Tales from the borderlands manages to capture the wacky, psychotic adventure that borderlands games are known for. In 10 hour the game manages to capture my interest with its goofball of characters. It offers plenty of creative choice for players to decide on,making the game experience different from others. A solid 8/10.
A nice telltale game with some occasional quick time event or simple puzzles. But it's mostly cutscenes and dialogue options lets be honest.
But they are done well! A lot of times your choices will have pretty significant impact on how certain chapters in each episode turns out. I was a bit shocked about some of the things that happened in my game never did for a friend who played it way back. So there's some branching going on which is great, and the game also allows you to go back and alter the story if you want to.
The characters are also enjoyable with your choices deciding how serious things are going to play out in most of the scenes. The voice acting is also great, likewise the sound and animation team that makes watching a couple of hours of directed cutscenes play out such a blast.
If we ever want to talk about a Borderlands movie - this is the actual thing we wanted.

🎭 Somehow more emotional than expected from a game where psychos scream about meat bicycles.
This isn't just a story — it's your awkward, hilarious, slightly tragic space adventure.
I really liked the ending and there were some laughs along the way but most parts of this game were just boring, cringe and goofy. Really disliked the whole Rhys/Jack thing, almost every character is annoying, only the robots were really cool. There is even less gameplay than in other ttg. I was surprised myself that this is even possible.
Animations are bad, graphics look awful for the most part, even the sound was kinda off at some points. There is really no substance to this game and the story really isnt that good.
Hey yall just finished the game and WOAHZA did this game get me all giddy and excited. Personally a huge fan of Handsome jack and honestly would fap 10 more times than I already have. If you like men(preferably jack) and Love handsome people(preferably jack AGAIN) then OHHHH BOY is this the game for you.
100/10

I recently started playing all of the borderlands games in order to prepare for the release of borderlands, and this was The game i was dreading playing the most. I hadn't seen anything from it unlike the 2 clips from the New Tales game so i was worried that it wasn't much worth a talking about. I was so wrong and this is now my favorite borderlands game
I can only hope that talking repeatedly to every single local politician in my riding, and promising them I would never vote for anyone who doesn't strongly advocate for legislating internet: spam, scams, lies, misinformation and... coercive, dishonest, bait and switch, fraud T.O.S. "agreements" that immorally scam consumers into giving the evil company private information they can then sell to even more scammers for profit.
Along with that hope is another hope that the "Take-Two" executive criminals will then be charged with crimes and face real jail time.
In the meantime, I can only uninstall, ignore the publisher and ensure that "Take-two" never receive a single penny from me ever again.
Pretty fun, and a easy 100%.
This game is like watching a movie, but playing the characters as well. I very much liked the story and the characters in them. I recommend.
The game about corporate greed is going to die because corporate greed. New EULA allows the following.

to add to all this A company who's CEO was accused of leaving a USB with illegal material on it as well as sensitive data of Gearbox/2K partners in a medieval themed restaurant wants all your delectable data and will never let anyone gain access to your data intentionally or not.
A lot of this is copy and pasted i just want it plastered all over the reviews so everyone can not miss this and hopefully be deterred from buying any of the borderlands products or even take two products. So sad this has happened and cause me to stop playing any of the borderland series.

peak fiction, story drags a little bit at the end of final episode but 90% of time its consistently best writing and characters in Borderlands lore or adjacent media
This game was such an incredible narrative experience especially for an 11 year old game. I'm gonna recommend my grandchildren play this game as soon as they ask why their middle names are loader bot and gortys
Don't buy this or any of the other Borderlands games -- or any game under the publishing group Take-Two Interactive, or the following Publishers: 2K, Dynamixyz, Rockstar Games, and Zynga. All of the information about their publishers and developers are publicly available.
Here is why:
They have added Terms of Service changes, or EULA changes to their games saying that they can and will collect your personal information such as: Passwords, Phone Numbers, IP Addresses.
They also wish to put a stop to Community Modders.
I recommend uninstalling these games if you have already agreed to these term changes. If you haven't agreed, best to do it to be safe.
The new ToS implemented by Take Two is basically Spyware that literally gathers all of your information aside from your ssn. I will no longer purchase any games from anyone under the take two umbrella. You don't get to use my information, let alone anyone elses to make yourselfs more money. Get shafted C U N T S
its not that its bad i actually enjoyed the tales from the borderlands the only reason i dont recommend it because its more of a story telling than gameplay, the replayability isnt strong here, yes you can choose different dialouges and choices but it doesnt change the outcome much and i do admit they all fun outcomes.
in my opinion this game isnt necessary to buy unless you got extra money to spend
This game really could have only been made when it was. Telltale being what it was, borderlands being the juggernaut it is, all coming together in a spectacular adventure of epic proportions. Its a Telltale game for better or worse. it's not going to change your mind on that. If you are a borderlands fan though, this game is a must play. It is necessary to understand the lore between BL2 and BL3. Even if you're not a Telltale fan, you need to sit through this one to enjoy the Borderlands series to its fullest. I like a good point and click adventure so this game was up my ally but even if it doesn't sound up yours i think the story is worth sticking it out.
I really enjoyed this game because the story is very interesting and fun.
However, I missed having decision stats to see the percentage of players who made good, bad, or questionable choices.
The gameplay is very simple, and overall, it’s a very relaxing experience.
The soundtrack is great, the graphics are decent — I’m using the highest quality settings, but some objects still have low resolution. But the most important thing is to sit back, enjoy the cinematics, and have a good time.
Thank you Gearbox and Telltale Games!
Borderlands is my favorite franchise to play with my cousins, classmates, and friends.
NOTE: I am aware of the EULA controversy with the Borderlands games right now, and yes, it is scummy, but I will not change my recommendation as I am focusing on the game itself. I'm not surprised 2K did this, given how this is a common tactic these days. I will say if you don't like the EULA, I would recommend not playing the games again unless this issue is fixed. However, I feel the backlash could do more damage to BL's legacy, and that won't be an option for most players.
I was curious about this game after playing Borderlands 3, since that game features a few characters from this one. Plus, believe it or not, I had never played a modern Telltale game. What I mean is pre-The Walking Dead, as I have played their first series of Sam & Max games, but nothing after that.
In a nutshell, I had a good time with this game. There were a lot of fun and tense moments, plus the team really nailed the style and charm of the earlier Borderlands games. I will admit, there were some moments that did get to me a little bit, and from my experience, this is something you definitely want to play after you finish Borderlands 2 (I'm not too sure on the Pre-Sequel, as I just started playing that game and I realize there are some plotpoints that interconnect with this game). The game does get a bit stale by the end of it, and it felt like things should have been wrapped up in chapter four, but of course, Borderlands is about the vaults, so we had to see that vault open. Episode five just felt a bit rushed in my opinion for this reason.
However, I can't say I didn't have a good time with this one. Now I can be more furious at how they screwed over Rhys in BL3. I get it, he's a goofball, but he felt like a different character. I would have assumed that him being sort of a leader character would have made him more confident in being the president for Atlas, but that didn't really get conveyed in the game. Not to mention, Vaughn... he's a pushover. Again, I get it, that was his gimmick in TFTB, but by the end of the game, he grew as a character, becoming more confident and badass. He had the strongest character arc out of all of them. Again, maybe things change in the Pre-Sequel, but I would need to play through that to get everything connected.
Ranting aside, give this a try if you're a Borderlands fan. I also feel it holds up on its own if you're not into the series because of the different choices and humor.
This was fun!
If you like the Borderlands Universe, its worth it.
Lots of well written Lore in there! Very enjoyable.
If you like Tell Tale Games even better. :)
So good to see Jack again & learn more.
Can BL4 have Pet's please? I want a Gortys or a Loaderbot (:
Your usual telltale games game, narrative point & click adventure w/ QTEs (not too too bad).
The characters (main cast) and story was fun. I enjoyed the humor and some of the intro songs.
You don't need to know borderlands lore/characters before going in.
Solid 10-ish hours of story, overall a very enjoyable experience.
The best borderlands story ever told
This is an absolute must play because:
- Has the best fictional finger gunfight EVER
- jokes that are still funny to this day
- amazing intro songs that immediately went into my playlist
- returning characters given the respect they deserve
- has handsome jack
Trying to get my Steam level up, but the game is fun too
Probably the best Telltale game after TWD series. I really enjoyed playing and love all the characters. The loader bot is the OG! The ending could have been more conclusive but I'll take it.
Normally, I despise Borderlands games, because of its “story”, annoying and cringing writing or dialogues and repetitive gameplay. However, this game has great writing, character development and soundtrack, while having a well-matched world with tiny references to the other games of Borderlands. Even though there are some illusions of choices, like all Telltale games, some of the choices impact the story. Also, I would recommend buying this from the sales, since it has great discount rate.

Tales from the Borderlands :
Honestly a nice Telltale game, it's a choose your own adventure kinda thing.
I just finished borderlands the pre-sequel so playing through tales from borderlands felt like I knew a bit more about the characters.
I love the story, great humour a lot of fun, The Art style/ Soundtracks amazing, a lot of action, a must play for any Borderlands fans. Also you don't need to play the previous Borderlands game to understand the story so it's a plus.
RIP Scooter T.T best guy ever!
Not only the best Borderlands game out there, but arguably the best thing Telltale has ever produced. A must play for a fan of either!
Tales from the Borderlands is a perfect blend of humor, heart, and choice-driven storytelling. The characters, especially Rhys and Fiona, are wonderfully developed, and the game expertly balances comedy with emotional depth. The writing is sharp, the voice acting is top-notch, and the action sequences are thrilling. It’s a true standout in the Telltale catalog, delivering a captivating narrative that fans of the franchise and newcomers alike will love.
Rating: 10/10 – A brilliant and unforgettable journey through Pandora.
Great game with wonderful story.
Works perfect on the steamdeck.
Should have been a movie. Kind of wish I'd watched it on YouTube instead.
I'm not happy having spent money on this, but it was a bundle and I'm completionist.
You don't play this... thing, it's an animated movie with extremely minimal input.
Would have been much better to just sit back and watch.
You have some input but it's superficial, the story core will do it's own thing.
You basically control the jokes in the dialogues.
Absolute cinematic masterpiece. Without revealing spoilers, they make a character that is pretty much universally disliked across all the previous games and turn them into a hero. This game takes your heart, ties it up in knots, and sends it into space looking for the vaults.
It is not ABSOLUTELY necessary to play the previous games, but it is certainly recommended for context.
Edit and update. At time of writing, I was in chapter four. After finishing the game, I have two updates. One, wow. They REALLY tie your heart up in knots. Be prepared to cry. More than once. And two, it's really a shame that they turned off community comparison.
I did not enjoy this game, but I think that's a matter of personal taste over the game's quality. This seems like a fun title if you like the Borderlands universe and Telltale's narrative adventure titles, but it might not work out if you're only a fan of one of those things.
Good story, best part is Joe voice actor from family guy
Shocked at how invested I got into the story. Really loved every minute I spent with the game.
wow verry good stories :)
is about a group of idiots with big dreams try to make their way in success bur epeily faild
but destiny hepls :)
Avid borderlands fan, I’ve played through this story many times.
I’ve played all the games in the series many times,
WHY DID THEY DO THIS TO MY BOY?!
I loved the story, I wish we got to find out more about the ending. I have so many questions. So many things unanswered.
Classic game. Pretty fun and good story.
For the love of anything buy this game, play this game, and engross yourself in this game. This is some of the highest peaks of the entire borderlands franchise and you're doing yourself a disservice if you've not played it yet. PLAY. THIS. GAME.
Playability / Enjoyment 8/10
Graphics / Sound 6/10
Woke / ESG score 2/10
Story / Writing 9/10
Replayability 5/10
Surprisingly enjoyable as I am not into point and click games, but the story, writing and voice acting were excellent, and the time limited answering was fun. It is worth playing just to get some of the back story to the final Borderlands 2 DLC and Borderlands 3 characters. Pleasantly surprised there was not much wokeness considering the 2k games after number Borderlands 2. Shame they didn't use the writers for Borderlands 3 and Wonderlands. They would have been much better if they did.
I loved this game so much!
It's my 4th game in the Borderlands franchise.. I wanted to review it after Finishing BL2 + DLC but due to a hand injury i can't play using my left hand for rapid movement. That's where is game came in.
I plugged in my controller then kicked back with one of the best stories in the entire franchise. easily playable with one hand. I ate while playing/watching this. Normally i'll have something playing on my 2nd monitor or phone but the story was so good i wanted to pay attention,
Oozing with charm this might be Telltale's best work. The soundtrack is awesome really suiting the tone of the game. I believe Telltale really excels with comedy, it matches with the graphic design and this game truly is humorous.
First played this gem 3 years ago on Xbox and loved every second of it — the writing is hilarious, the characters are cool and the soundtrack is killer. Decided to dive back in on my Steam Deck OLED again, and it’s just as amazing as I remembered! The humor still hits, the story pulls you in, and it runs perfectly smooth on high details with 90FPS. A must-play for any Borderlands fan or anyone who loves a good story. 10/10!
Holy crap how does this have any good ratings? Its a friggin choose your own adventure not a game. So sometime you have to press arrow keys when they show up on the screen. So Im doing that and then it shows some friggin curved arrow. WTF DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!?! There is no curved arrow key. This is garbage. I can not BELIEVE this has borderlands in the title. THIS IS NOT A GAME.
yummy! would recommend any telltale game. very good... somehow told a compelling telltale story while keeping borderlands humour & comedic timing.
