As a casual gamer, I think Tales from the Borderlands is a great game. I really enjoyed the story, it was very interesting and exciting. The characters were very well developed, and I really cared about them. The graphics in the game were top notch, and the music created the right atmosphere.
I especially liked that there was humor in the game. It was very appropriate and made the game even more interesting.
Overall, I think Tales from the Borderlands is a great game that will appeal to all fans of Borderlands. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting and exciting game with a good story and characters.
Simple yet interesting game with awesome story.
it was so good and fun!!!!!! i loved da characters a lot and loved seein them on their lil adventure!!!!!!!!!!!
Very pleasantly surprised that the game's story was very good. A very engaging and heartwarming story. There's not much game play when it comes to these Telltale games, but the stories tend to very good. I had my reservations when it comes to anything Borderlands, since I am not a fan of FPS type of games, but this was another excellent story by Telltale games.
This is the funniest game I have ever played, and it isn't close. I played on a friend's computer and we argued over choices together, had an absolute blast, even to the end when we knew Rhys had botched the romance and I had him try for it anyway "because that's what he would do."
This is the game you need to play with your girlfriend who's skeptical of video games and doesn't want to waste her time, but wants to "share your interests somehow."
This was an awesome interactive option for Borderlands. Was totally worth the time.
Tales from the Borderlands stands out not only as the best of Telltale’s games but also as a fantastic addition to the Borderlands universe.
While Telltale games may seem a bit dated today—with their usual formula of choices leading to one of a few endings and limited gameplay—Tales from the Borderlands shines with its brilliant storytelling, lovable characters, and sharp writing. It perfectly captures the essence of the Borderlands franchise while also standing strong as a great standalone story that anyone can enjoy.
Somehow, Telltale managed to capture the chaotic spirit of Pandora in a completely fresh and compelling way, set after the events of Borderlands 2. Each character brings something unique and hilarious to the table, making the cast a delight to watch.
Tales from the Borderlands excels in the laugh department and it is so well executed along with the story pacing that they couldn't have done it any better.
A really nice adventure with some fun and lovable characters. I loved it!
Really good story, makes me miss Telltale Games.
Loader bot for president!
super fun, the characters are very interesting and the humor is amazing. played this the first time in 2025 and damn im having a blast
Older but better Telltale Style Borderlands.
Characters are Fun, Story is great and overall its a nice Exp.
If suggest playing this IF you want to play a Borderlands-Story and NOT "NEW-Tales from the Borderlands"
trust me bro.
A typical Telltale Games experience gameplay-wise, with “branching” (but not really) paths and QTEs everywhere, combined with some of the funniest bits I ever experienced in Borderlands franchise. Unfortunately, game also has (SMALL SPOILER, WITH OMMITED DETAILS) a death scene of one of its characters that is so stupid and ridiculous that I almost saw the writers checking off the “kill someone important to the story to raise the stakes” check on the list while watching the scene unfold. I don’t mind the idea of killing the character – it’s how and when the character died that felt insulting. Luckily, the rest of the game was enjoyable to experience, so if you like Borderlands, go for it.
Probably the best Borderlands game story wise, and one of the best telltale games of all time. Tells the story of Rhys the Hyperion company man and Fiona the con artist. 5 great episodes and the final conclusion of Handsome Jack.
A game... minus any gameplay
I had previously played a TellTale game so i knew what i was getting into, essentially hours of cut-scenes often interrupted with multiple choice dialogue options or clicking on the environment to progress to the next chapter.
However this time around, i couldn't find the story engaging. I think the main reason was the obnoxious characters.
Essentially, all the males are either clowns or creeps [or both] and all the women are sassy, intelligent girl bosses.
The overall production value of this game is excellent. But after around 6 hours of listening to this millennial humour, i had to stop before the brain rot took hold of me.
The story telling is worth more than borderland 3 story telling. i've give them that. but still need more option based for fiona romanced road like i felt she more compatible to rhys rather than sasha. or yvette is better since they in together since the whole she-bang.
Abso "freaking" lutely Badass! Wholesome ! Awesome ! Such an incredibly unrealistic stunning story! And everything that describes the series! A Biggg Shout-out to the Telltale Team!
Here's a request please bring more sequels of each series, especially the Borderlands & the Wolf Among Us.
A must play game for those that enjoyed Borderlands 1 & 2. Compelling story, not much of Claptrap bullshittery and genuine well written characters with not much garbage in between. A good 10 hour playthrough + a free 100% achievement completed game.
An amazing story driven game that outshines most if not all games I've ever played. It was amazing every moment I can only hope a true sequel will happen for this game. The plot and interpersonal relationships choices are incredible. I only wish I could play it all over again fresh. 10/10.
Amazing story and decisive choices
The best Borderlands story isn't even from an actual Borderlands game, go figure
Never been a big fan of telltale games, but this adds so much to the borderlands lore. This is the true sequel to the Borderlands 2 story before it all got messed up in 3
I enjoyed the writing and story. I received this product part of the Pandora Box collection, Gearbox was kind enough to include the game within it.
Update.
Took 10 hours to beat and wasnt a fan of the 2nd half of the game. Went from slow and simple to fast and not making a lot of sense. Still it was nice to see characters from the franchise.
Fantastic. Really enjoying it. Very faithful to the series. A couple things here and there didnt make any sense. So far my favorite character is August. My only real complaint is how you only have 5 seconds to read and make a choice and all the Atlas stuff doesnt make a lot of sense to me if you played the first Borderlands game. Im on episode 3 and Its fun. Highly recommend. I do think they did Scooter dirty though. Also if this game did take place after the ending of Borderlands 2, you would think some of the damage would be left behind but whatever. It feels odd that they mention the death of Jack but the world is the same.
great game worth a ride it's a roller coaster to sum it up in rest. and i also like the Rhys and Sasha thing going
Tales from the Borderlands is a fantastic Telltale game, filled with emotions, humor, and memorable characters. A must-play for fans of storytelling and the Borderlands universe!
Pros: subtitles available, nice soundtrack, style & presentation, you can select any episode from the start, interesting characters & good voice acting, you switch between two main characters, decisions you make affects the game, multiple chapters in an episode, episodes are about 2 hours long, awesome ending
Cons: the game first launches in low resolution, basic graphical menu, locked at 60 frames per second, no borderless window mode option, quick time events, lip sync is a bit off sometimes, I noticed a bit of missing audio, some dialogue options expire too fast, it does not tell you the choices stats page like in The Walking Dead series at the end of each episode
Overall, likely to be the best Telltale game ever (& not to take anything away from their The Walking Dead series). The entire game takes about 10 hours to complete. Great characters & awesome story, what more could you ask for?
Tales from the Borderlands has my highest recommendation.
I absolutely ADORE this game. I loved it when I watched someone play it online yeaaaars ago before I had a PC, and I love it even more now that I've played it for myself. It's more of a narrative adventure with some QTEs than a normal game, but either way, it rocks. The characters are so fantastic and I laughed my ass off more times than I can count and even shed a few tears at the end. I ADORE all the characters, and I loved getting to know everyone throughout the game. Everyone felt like family at the end and I love that!!!!
Only good game Telltale ever made aside from the first walking dead season.
This game was really fun, so glad its back up for purchase again.
Its got the characters, charm and world building of a Borderlands game, but with decision making and role playing elements that let it stand on its own two feet, and not be some shoddy tie in. A nice interactive change of pace for the Borderlands saga. Would really recommend to people looking for a good 13 hours of fun
I give it 8/10
just an overall great game, it is both funny and an emotional roller coaster. it is a must play for any borderlands fan, because of just the great quality of the game and the important details within the game. characters and well made and develop over the course of the story. choices can range from funny, to sad, to thought provoking and intelligent.
Borderlands series are primarily focused on their shlooter gameplay and art style, and infamous for eschewing proper writing in favor of cramming all dialogue interactions with trending memes and detached post-ironising so you'd expect a Borderlands game 100% focused on story to be a disaster. Buuuut... it's great??! Dare I say, it feels like more of an adventure than mainline series do, even!
Overall premise is that you get to control two characters- Rhys a corporate failure, and Fiona the Pandoran native conwoman, who gets intertwined in a plot involving a sale of fake Vault Key, the big plot device in almost all Borderlands games, that eventually leads to an actual vault key. So, the writing I mentioned? It is distinctly different from Borderlands original, with more proper character growth, while still unafraid to be zany and ironising, but in way more focused bursts. There's a lot of that signature Borderlands stuff like wacky bandits and comically cruel megacorporations, but ultimately it's about a journey of random shmucks into heroes, and it delivers.
Also the peak Borderlands art style they're unfortunately walking away from is here, very comicbook-y with thick black lines on characters and all, faithfully recreated. Must say, there is some sloppyness of the game's art bits sometimes, odd very blatant clipping or sfx stuff but I imagine they really had to rush the episodes and not sure if Telltale can afford to go back and revise stuff hard. Seems their engine of choice is pretty dated, too, but they still delivered nice setpieces and animations with what they got.
Honestly if you ever played a Borderlands game, in particular 2 and 3, and felt like all the memery and poor comedy undersells a really cool setting, you should absolutely play this. The gameplay is standard Telltale dialogue choices and QTE fare but they deliver an overall great ride of a story, here.
I've been a fan of the Borderlands franchise for a while since playing Borderlands 2, and I gotta say this game is something special. It got you hooked in with the story, likeable and interesting characters, great soundtracks, and loader bot (I love loader bot).
Maybe the writing could be compared to New Tales From The Borderlands and you could say it got some millennial writing in the game, but the difference is that this game is awesome and that one isn't.
Definitely a must buy for Borderlands fans to get on board with the poop train.
Fun story, quite funny at times. Ending was a bit sappy but what else can be expected from this type of game 8/10.
Overall: 7.5/10
Story:
As someone who only ever played Borderlands 2 many years ago and has a pretty minor nostalgia for the series, I went into Tales from the Borderlands without much bias one way or the other. What I found, though, was a genuinely enjoyable experience that stands out in Telltale’s lineup and clearly offers something unique within the Borderlands universe.
The general plot of Tales is solid, but what really makes it shine, in my opinion, is the way it’s told. The pacing is incredibly efficient; there’s no bloat or wasted time, and pretty much every scene and line feels like it has a purpose. Additionally, the cast of truly interesting characters mixed with a story brimming with sharp, entertaining, and authentic humor, makes for a narrative that’s as fun to experience as it is engaging.
I think the humor deserves a special mention here because it’s obviously not easy to pull off comedy in video games since comedy is very subjective, but I feel like Tales does it effortlessly. More than once I found myself laughing out loud at moments that caught me completely off guard, and the comedic moments never felt forced, even after the plot subtly establishes absurdity as a norm. This absolutely added an even deeper layer of charm and levity to the high-stakes drama.
What really sets this game apart is how well it balances everything. The humor never undermines the emotional beats, and the action sequences always feel captivating and dynamic. The interplay between Rhys and Fiona, the two main protagonists, is especially well done, with their contrasting personalities and evolving relationship driving much of the story.
For me, Tales easily lands in the upper echelon of Telltale’s catalog. Although I wouldn't put it in my personal top three, it is a VERY close fourth right behind Batman: TEW, TWD: Season 1, and The Wolf Among Us. Even if you don’t have any attachment to the Borderlands series and may not appreciate/understand some in-universe references as much (like myself), this is a game that stands on its own as a fun and engaging narrative experience.
Unfortunately lastly though, the worst part about the story is the fact that you're no longer able to compare your choices to those of the overall community at the end of each episode, as Telltale no longer the rights to the IP. This isn't the biggest deal in the world, but I was slightly disappointed upon this realization and thought it was worth mentioning.
Gameplay:
If you've played one Telltale game, you’ve essentially played them all, for better or for worse. This means dialogue choices, quick-time events (QTE's), and occasional minor exploration are all the core gameplay pillars. Obviously this isn't necessarily a bad thing for fans of Telltale games, and this formula works as well here as it does in other games by the studio, but anyone coming from the mainline Borderlands series might find this gameplay loop very jarring, since here as the focus is on storytelling and character interactions rather than traditional gameplay/gunplay depth.
What really makes Tales stand out, gameplay wise, is its dual-protagonist setup, which ties directly into the narrative pacing. You spend equal time as Rhys, the ambitious Hyperion company man, and Fiona, the resourceful con artist. This split perspective allows you to experience Pandora from two very different viewpoints, making you really feel the depth of the Borderlands universe. The balance feels just right, as the shifts between characters keep the story engaging without overstaying its welcome on either side.
However, the most unique gameplay elements are tied to each character’s "special ability." Fiona can collect (or more accurately, steal) money during certain moments, which at times can be used for small but satisfying purchases if you've saved up. Rhys, on the other hand, has access to his Echo Eye, a gadget that lets him scan objects in the environment for information. This latter feature becomes even more entertaining once Handsome Jack gains control of Rhys’s Echo Eye, turning it into the hilariously self-absorbed "Jackopedia," complete with witty, lore-filled descriptions of scanned items. These abilities add a layer of welcomed interactivity to an otherwise streamlined gameplay experience.
World:
The world and level design strikes a fine balance between Telltale's signature linearity and the rich, chaotic aesthetic of Borderlands. Just like the gameplay, Tales also adheres to the standard Telltale formula with the level design, with tightly controlled environments and limited exploration, but it uses this structure to its advantage. Each environment feels appropriate for the plot's progression, adding depth to the characters' journey while remaining visually and thematically distinct. This ensures that you are consistently engaged, even within the constraints of its linear framework, and I feel like this boost the already immersive atmosphere even higher.
The creative backdrops, thoughtful level transitions, and previously mention great pacing ensures that no area drags on, offering a nice parallel that mirrors the game’s dynamic storytelling.
Visuals:
The visuals/graphics are a brilliant fusion of Telltale Games' signature style and that of the Borderlands universe. From the moment you launch the game, it’s clear that the visual synergy between these two worlds is nothing short of a match made in Heaven. Telltale's iconic comic book-inspired, cel-shaded art style feels like it was tailor-made for the chaotic and vibrant aesthetic of Pandora.
While Tales doesn’t reach the graphical fidelity of some of Telltale's later titles, like TWD: Season 4, it still holds its own. The environments are colorful and varied, seamlessly blending the gritty, lived-in feel of Borderlands with Telltale’s expressive visuals. Basically, the slightly lower level of visual polish is more than compensated for by the game's charm, personality, and its commitment to creating an enticing experience.
Music/Sound Design:
The music and sound design in Tales is both a shining star and an Achilles' heel. What I mean by this is: the soundtrack is phenomenal, perfectly capturing the offbeat charm and high-stakes drama of the narrative provided. Each track enhances the narrative and action, making key moments feel more impactful and emotionally charged. The voice acting is another standout feature, bringing the characters to life with performances that are immersive, engaging, and genuinely entertaining. Add to this a suite of powerful sound effects that ground you in this quirky, chaotic world, and you’ve got an audio landscape that SHOULD excel at drawing anyone into the game.
However, despite these strengths, I found the overall quality of the audio to be less than ideal. While the music and vocal performances are fantastic, the audio itself lacks the crispness and polish one might expect from more modern titles. There’s a slightly muddled quality to the sound mix that diminishes the experience, making it feel a bit dated. While you do grow accustomed to it fairly quickly, It was noticeable upon launch of each play session, and I couldn’t help but feel that the game would have benefited greatly from a more refined audio presentation.
TL;DR:
I think for anyone who is already a fan of Telltale-style games, picking up Tales from the Borderlands is a no-brainer, as while the general gameplay loop is the same, aside from a couple unique character-specific mechanics, the narrative is one of the best the studio has done. On the other hand, for people who are only really fans of BL or haven't played a Telltale game before, I still think the narrative is worth playing and experiencing not only because it's great, but because it is also canon. However, I can very clearly see how the gameplay could certainly be jarring or even "boring" for anyone simply looking for more high-octane Borderlands gameplay. It really comes down to preference!
Really loved the game.
It's very creative and well written.
There were a few plot points or jokes that were set up early and gave nice pay offs later on which is always nice, and the choices sometimes made a few alterations to the story in a way that makes me very curious how much branching content there actually is.
Good main characters, the majority of side characters were interesting, and all of it is nicely voice acted.
Great adventure for those familiar with Borderlands series
+ Voice acting
+ Characters
+ Athena <3
+ The story
+ The jokes
- Side characters will suddenly disappear to appear after 1-2 episodes without much explanation where were they and what did . Athena's kidnapping and her appearance ...
- Choices matter not. Whatever you will do , the ending will be exactly the same.
- "X will remember it" after a choice and died or it's kidnapped for the rest of game. It's meaningless to say at least.
Despite of negative experience , the game is pretty good and sometimes made me laugh like crazy.
A humorous addition to the Borderlands world, Tales from the Borderlands is a 'choices matter' style of game that blends great storytelling and roller coaster choices with Pandora's vibrant and wacky world. Easy to pick up and play; all at once or in chunks with the episodic gameplay that was well known at the time.
mt bão, só jogue o borderlands 2 e o pre-sequel antes
great, but play borderlands 2 and pre-sequel first
It was a fun game I enjoyed all the different routes you could take and the hidden Easter eggs in the game was great to see 10/10 would love a second one
god i loved this game. not as smooth of game play as other games, but the story itself is so good. borderlands games never fail to have the best characters
If you are looking for a easy-going, sit back and relax sort of game than this may check several boxes in that regard. It's a game tailored to play in small sessions or just marathon-it. It takes less than 10 hours to see everything there is to see, it doesn't overstay its welcome, there's no filler or secondary objectives. There's a story and you follow it. If you are used to games where your choices really impact the course than, despite what it seems, you won't find that here. You do have choices to make, but they will not have a impact in the outcome. You may have different lines of dialog but that will be it.
Using anecdotes, joking and a good use of irony and sarcasm may be hard to find in most games but in here I would say Tales From the Borderlands did it right, with just the good amount of it. The game is not serious and does not take itself too seriously even in those tense moments. It's a light-hearted adventure.
The game has a good momentum. You will be searching the name of the intro song everytime a new chapter starts. It's fitting, feels good, the camera angles during these intros are nicely made, the attention to detail is there, it's something we often skip when watching TV shows, for instance.
You will become friends with lifeless forms, robots and other unexpected friends (or foes?) in which some will make you desire that you really had the power to change certain outcomes if you could do it based on the good or bad choices you make along the game. But that, once again, will not be possible. So, knowing that, simple sit back and enjoy the ride. We need more simplicity in videogames and this one is a easy choice for a pick-up and play and move to the next one when you're done with it.
Really engaging story filled with humour and radical moments. The characters and their interactions are a blast, and the choices feel impactful. 10/10 - highly recommend for anyone who loves a mix of comedy and adventure!
might be one of the most fun i've had in any story-like game. it is hilarious, and worth the money. you can also wait until it is on sale, most sales can go down to even as low as a measly 2.69 CAD.
if you like borderlands humor and love tell-tale story games, this is a must-buy
10/10.
Where to even begin.
Tales from the Borderlands is a once in a lifetime type experience that only a Telltale game could provide. This game was so amazing, from the voice acting to the writing i cant see anything wrong with this game from an artistic perspective.
This game was just as hilarious as it was emotional, good lord. The jokes hit at ALL the right times, I found myself having to pause for minutes at a time because I was laughing my guts out because of a your mom joke.
If you have played any other previous borderlands title and you want to play something new, THIS is the perfect game.
Loader Bot/10
PLAY THIS GAME NOW.
Besides walking dead, easily the best telltale game 10/10
This a wonderful Telltale game that was missung for a long time from the Steam. Finally it returned back!
And ohh boiii, it's one of the best storytelling that they had done
Quality storytelling with plenty of choices to make. Had a blast playing it!
I bought the game on a whim during winter sale for just 1,99€, and for that price it's definitely a good experience. I never played anything from the Borderlands series before, but it was easy to get into and just overall a fun ride. In comparison to other telltale games like The Walking Dead, it felt less complex or like my choices weren't as impactful. The characters are likable and sometimes I'd have liked to learn more about them in the game, but maybe they are known from previous games to fans of the series. The gameplay is very easy and I wish the Quicktime events were a bit harder sometimes. The achievements are very lazy, as they are simply given out for completing the chapters, and nothing more interesting that you only unlock by making speical choices.
Overall, I can definitely recommend giving this one a shot during sale. It's not worth the regular 20€ it's listed for though. But anything up to 10 is fine for it.
Rating: 7 /10
Tales from the borderlands is a great story that i half-remember watching a play-through off long ago on Youtube. The comedy is good ol' borderlands core and if you enjoy the humour/story telling then you'll enjoy this telltale game. get it on sale for the best bang for your buck.
