Don't buy this game until it goes on sale its normally 15$ but when it goes on sale all walking dead games go on sale for about 85% and it goes on sale often. The game has a very good story and your choice heavily affect the story. If you play this game and don't like the combat or quick time events because they are too simple don't worry the sequels to this game have much better combat and quick time events. Do not play any other walking dead games before this one its very important and is the most liked. Also play 400 days before you play season 2 if you play 400 days after it's irrelevant. I highly recommend this game I consider it to be the best telltale game as it has the most episodes out of any telltale series at 21 episodes for all the walking dead games combined so its very replayable. Side note: do not watch anything on tiktok related to this game do not watch any live streams or any videos with out and alt account, the reason I am saying this is because you may scroll and then get a glance of a live stream of an episode you haven't played yet giving spoilers. So even if you have played that episode don't watch a live stream of the game on your main as it will recommend other streams that have later episodes.
art, masterpiece, captivated. It's like watching a movies and you can control. In the final moments, Lee Everett (MC) can't escape his fate of being cuffed because the choice was there, man the irony, and the ending.. chef's kiss.
The best story game I've ever played and the ending was painful 💔
pretty good plot and pretty good gameplay may get a bit stuck at times but i just use a tutorial
Only recommended for a single playthrough, as there really isn't enough variety to enjoy it more than once, near as I could tell. If you're expecting something deep, look elsewhere.
I've never had any interest in the show, but the game was pretty good. However, it is notorious for misinterpreting which interaction you click on. Made-up example:
> Other character: Is now a good time to go to the store? _ Yes _No
> Click "No"
> Your character: "Not in a million years"
> Game: "Other Character will remember that."
i don't think any game, movie, experience, or event in life will top how this made my heart feel; i've got a hole forever in my heart, and this game has changed the trajectory of my life. would recommend! 😀👍
A roller-coaster of emotions. I have never sobbed to a video game before until now. Totally worth every penny you will spend on it.
Telltale Games' The Walking Dead is one of the most celebrated and emotionally impactful titles in the narrative-driven video game genre. The game stands apart from many others in its genre, offering a poignant exploration of human relationships, survival, and the weight of choices in a post-apocalyptic world.
Story and Narrative
At its heart, The Walking Dead is a story about people—what they are willing to do to protect those they love and how they cope with loss, fear, and moral ambiguity in a world ravaged by the undead. The game follows Lee Everett, a convicted felon who finds himself caring for Clementine, a young girl orphaned by the outbreak. Their relationship is the emotional core of the game, with Lee serving as a surrogate father figure to Clementine in a world where such bonds are fragile and fleeting.
The narrative unfolds in episodic chapters, each one advancing the story while deepening the characters' arcs and introducing new moral dilemmas.
The writing is exceptional, capturing the desperation and humanity of the survivors. The game's ability to mix tense survival moments with quiet, intimate character-building scenes is what makes it stand out. It’s a tale about hope, survival, and what it means to hold on to your humanity when the world has fallen apart.
Gameplay and Mechanics
Telltale's The Walking Dead isn't about complex combat or intricate puzzle-solving. Instead, it is primarily a point-and-click adventure with a heavy emphasis on dialogue and decision-making. The gameplay focuses on exploration, quick-time events, and conversations where you choose what to say, often with little time to reflect on the consequences. Your choices influence the relationships between characters and the overall story, leading to different endings and scenarios.
While the gameplay itself may not be groundbreaking, it's the emotional weight carried by each decision that makes the game so compelling. The dialogue system feels authentic, and the game's pace keeps you engaged without overstaying its welcome. The quick-time events, though simple, are effective in creating tension and drama during moments of danger.
Character Development and Voice Acting
The character development in The Walking Dead is among the best in the industry. Lee and Clementine are both deeply written, with Lee serving as a flawed but empathetic protagonist, while Clementine grows from a frightened child into a strong and capable young woman throughout the course of the game. The secondary characters, too, are fleshed out well, and the choices you make regarding them often carry lasting emotional consequences.
The voice acting is superb across the board, with special mention going to Dave Fennoy (Lee) and Melissa Hutchison (Clementine). Fennoy brings a weight and gravitas to Lee, while Hutchison captures the innocence and resilience of Clementine, especially as her character undergoes significant development over the course of the series.
Art and Atmosphere
Telltale's distinctive cel-shaded art style gives The Walking Dead a unique look that feels timeless, balancing realism and the comic-book roots of the *Walking Dead* universe. The muted color palette adds to the bleak atmosphere, while the environments are beautifully designed, evoking a sense of desolation and danger at every turn.
The music and sound design contribute heavily to the overall mood, from the somber guitar tunes that underscore moments of reflection to the intense, heart-pounding score that heightens the tension during moments of danger. The sound design also helps bring the world to life, with the groaning of zombies and the creaking of old buildings creating an oppressive, survivalist atmosphere.
Themes and Emotional Impact
The Walking Dead is a game that resonates emotionally, and this is where it truly shines. The themes of loss, survival, morality, and sacrifice run deep throughout the narrative, and the game consistently challenges players to think about what they would do in a similar situation. These decisions are rarely clear-cut, and the consequences are often gut-wrenching.
One of the most powerful aspects of the game is the way it makes you care about the characters. The relationships you build—whether through moments of bonding or tension—feel real, and the game doesn’t hesitate to break your heart when characters you’ve grown attached to are lost, betrayed, or forced to make difficult choices.
The ending of the first season, in particular, is one of the most memorable and emotional conclusions in modern video game history. Without spoiling it, it's a gut-punch that sticks with you long after the credits roll, underscoring the fragile nature of hope in a world without guarantees.
Conclusion
Telltale's *The Walking Dead* is a masterclass in storytelling, character development, and emotional engagement. It may not have the intricate mechanics of traditional action games, but its focus on narrative and player choice is where it truly excels. It’s a game that sticks with you long after you’ve finished it, and its legacy is a testament to the power of interactive storytelling in video games.
Whether you're a fan of the *Walking Dead* franchise or just looking for a compelling story-driven game, *The Walking Dead* is a must-play experience. Its emotional depth, memorable characters, and tough moral choices make it one of the most impactful games of its generation.

Really rare to find a game these days that is worth my precious time and doesn't bore me, after 38 years of owning computers.
I guess me being a fan of post-apocalyptic stuff doesn't hurt.
Tough decisions have to be made, there's gonna be loss you'll have to deal with and an ending you can't predict, sure beats any Hollywood trash of the last decade or two.
One of the best games I've ever played, such an amazing story. I'd protect Clem with my life too if I were Lee.
R.I.P Lee, and Carly.
10/10
At that time it was very original. The graphics, the story and the characters very great.
10/10 Story Line, would recommend reading the book and watching the show.
Saw this game on the Xbox Store on 360 thousands of times. Finally getting around to play it on PC.
I highly recommend this game! To truly immerse yourself in the experience, it's best to play it solo, stepping into Lee's shoes completely. 10/10, can't wait to play the the next couple of games!
Its very surprising the devs made this in 2013 since it is full of emotions and bad endings not just for you but for Everyone in the whole entire game your actions guilt on you and you think to the beginning of how all of this happened i simply dont have words on how this game is severely unforgiving and realism as in no happy endings and cliffhangers in some sort as through my playthrough i simply dont have words for this game as in how BRUTAL it is 10/10 i never knew that such an old game could be so brutal and good
Played this for the first time in 2024 and its held up amazingly. Peak writing, peak narrative, peak characters, Peak games design
Lee = Goated
This is a classic story-driven game. I didn't have the opportunity to play this game when it came out, but playing this in 2024 but also knowing the game because of the streamers I've watched that played it, it was a surreal experience for me. Even after all these years, the story of this game still holds up pretty well. Shows us how good of a format video game really is for storytelling.
I really hate zombies, more than words can describe. But I loved this game, the story was really good, the ending made me cry and the rest made me fear society. Fantastic game.
For 69 rs this game is worth every penny I played this game after playing some souls game this game is simple easy to fallow had one of the best emotionally driven story if u want to play a game with good story game with less of gameplay then try this 9/10
I liked the game. The game walk-through depends on what I selected and that is so interested. It gives the game more than one ends. It gives the game a punch of ends. The game story is cool although the end is very sad. It is like a story with a punch of options and I should chose. I liked it so much. Maybe the game is old but it is still playable and I enjoyed it.
overall 7.5/10
Watched my big bro play this game on the Ipad when we were just kids and I remembered always being so scared that I preferred to watch him play when he offered to let me. Playing it now after so many years and this game still holds up - thanks for the nostalgia.
Its is very immersive with each choice altering the game in a new way for all players there are endless possibilitys to what characters are alive and not throughout the story
This game series adapts to the choice you make. The story is tailored by how you play : )
Picked it out on sale for about £1.50 and didnt have high expectations for it. Now after finishing it i have to get the whole series
beautiful game. fantastic from start to finish. such a classic as well with a great storyline
i will always come back to this og
This game is so......... FREAKINGLY FREAKING AMAZING!!!! THE STORY, THE CHARACTERS, Even the fact you make your own choice in the game.. The story was just way better than anything else, and yet it pains me to say this, but The Walking Dead probably has better story than Red Dead Redemption II and I, I played Red Dead, but after seeing how this game is like compared to Red Dead, I'd say The Walking Dead takes the trophy, man I wish Telltale Games was still in business so they can make more The Walking Dead games, and Lee's Death bro.. It had me in tears, I even felt really emotional throughout this game, this just shows how strong it's story can be, You gotta play this man! It'll really get to your mind with emotions and all, and you gotta continue the games, I'm probably though gonna do Season 2 and then I'll do the others, but yea, I'd definetly reccomend this to someone who loves storylines a lot, I just love this game, please buy it and enjoy it.
i dont know what to write but the game is awesome - may have some bugs etc. but the story...
I can see why the steam reviews are, "Overwhelmingly Positive"
this game's a masterpiece in writing and storytelling.
fucking amazing game
i've played this game back in 2014 it was crazy
playing it again now
I like the story, you can really feel for Lee and Clementine.
Really love the story and characters in this game!
this is the first game that i bought with money on steam and every other game. and i thought it would be a bad choice for me that i picked this game cause its on sale and old, but it wasn't. i enjoy the game so much and i purchase the season 2 already cause it got me hooked up. thank you telltale!
its a fun yet old game. good gameplay and sad story. good for people who want to cry
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH LEE. I recommend this game to you if you like story games, especially with intense situations and, danger and, stuff like that. This game is such an amazing story, and it has ZOMBIES, you can't go wrong with a good old zombie game, it may seem like a slow paced game but I find the story writing of it to be amazing and intriguing. The ending is the saddest thing I've seen in a long time, made me emotional and almost made me cry, this game is one of the best in my opinion, super iconic and amazing, would very much recommend.
"everybody is going to remember this"
btw nice game movie series, awesome story but not always seems that your choices are doing much
this game has a perfect story
The Walking Dead is the first game in a series of Telltale games based on the comic book and television series. With exceptional storytelling and character development, it is considered one of the best narratives of its era. The game begins in the early days of a zombie apocalypse and follows Lee, who saves a young girl named Clementine, and looks over her as they attempt to stay alive and find safety in any way they can. Along the way they meet several other characters that they team up with. Lee and Clem share many heartfelt moments as he teaches her whatever he can to prepare her for the challenges ahead. The point and click gameplay mechanics are simple and the game is generally quite linear. The game shines with its emotional twists, and delivers a plethora of figurative gut punches as the player has to make difficult, and often split second decisions that will impact outcomes and character relationships. The pacing is generally solid although there are occasions where things slow down a little too much. The eerie score creates a lot of tension and the voice acting performances really allow each character to shine. The cell-shaded visual art suits the comic book style and the game has a very cinematic feel to it. The Walking Dead will probably keep you thinking about it long after its conclusion, as story driven experiences at this level are few and far between.
Bought this while it was on sale and it was totally worth the full price even.
Good and deep story where your choices actually matters.
All around a fun time!
this game was so good and addictive to play and you are not a true one if you don't cry at the ending
Best game i have ever played. The story is great and I want to experience the story for the first time again. I think there wouldn't be any other gstory game that is better than the walikng dead. I would recomend to not rush it.
I'll admit, I jumped on this game late compared to when it released but it doesn't subtract all from how it immerses you in the story. There's some funny dialogue if you decide to play as a jerk but there's lots of feels in it. Some janky graphics but it doesn't detract from the story. Replayability is high.
Ending hits you in the feels like a gut punch directly to you.
This game may be the best story game ive played in a long time, the date on it means nothing, the plot is everything. Play this game after experiencing a traumatic event and you will feel reborn after a runthrough. Your choices really mean everything and the game is truly "tailored to how you play". I will never forget this game.
Recently finished the game and enjoyed so much. This game can entertain anyone with its intense story. I immensely engaged with the characters especially the bond between Lee and Clem made me emotional. There are so many alternative choices and each choice has its own consequences. Some choices are more crucial which impact the main story and I enjoyed every choice I made. Overall this game is solid 9/10. One will surely enjoy the game.
Great story but has its nuances, scripts, scripts, why I could not leave Carly alive, because without her death was not such an intense story, but still the story is cool, the game is also recommended to everyone to pass. 10/10
TWD is a masterpiece of storytelling, blending tough choices with a deeply emotional journey. Playing as Lee and protecting Clementine creates a bond that feels incredibly real, making each decision hit hard. The characters are rich, the atmosphere is tense, and the story pulls you in from the start, building to one of the most powerful endings in gaming.
The following content may contain spoilers. This review is based on my experience after completing The Walking Dead Season 2.
This is the best game from Telltale I've played so far. The first season was incredibly engaging. While the format continued in later seasons (like the episodic structure), the feeling of intensity and despair from the first season started to diminish in later ones. I first completed this game on an iPad about ten years ago and recently played through it again on PC, gaining new insights—it was surprisingly just as amazing.
In this game, you have to make tough choices, where each one often harms others in some way. A simple example is in Chapter (episode) 1, where if you choose to save Carley, Doug will die, and vice versa. Both characters are good people with unique skills that would be useful for survival in a chaotic world. There is no way to keep both of them alive (and, in the end, both end up dying). This sense of regret permeates the entire game, which is perhaps why this game has left such a lasting impact on me.
Though I highly recommend this game, I do have to be honest about one aspect. The company markets it as "tailored by your choice," but it is, in the end, a linear story. So, when you first play, you might feel that phrases like “Kenny will remember that” or “Lilly noticed that you’re lying” imply huge consequences. But in reality, even if you save one person and let another be killed by walkers, it ultimately doesn’t change much because everyone eventually dies—the story’s ending is predetermined (or about 95% predetermined; for Season 2, it's roughly 90% predetermined, and after that, it becomes even less relevant…). So I was surprised when Carley, whom I saved in Episode 1, was still alive in Episode 3, as it implied extensive plot branching and voice acting. This is the longest-lasting branching I’ve seen in such games—usually, the result is that the person you saved at the start of an episode dies for other reasons later in the same episode.
However, this doesn’t make the game any less enjoyable. It just reduces some of the psychological pressure when making choices. It’s a bit like life—the ending is inevitable, but the experiences and moments along the journey are real and unique. For example, if you're kind to Clem and say certain things, she’ll remember them forever. Though death will eventually separate you, she’ll carry memories of your choices with her as she moves forward. This deeply moved me. It’s hard to put into words just how powerful these emotions are in such a desperate setting, but if you ever feel a lump in your throat when you hear Clem say, "I miss Lee" instead of reminiscing about her own parents, I don’t need to explain further. This intricate emotional development is one reason I strongly recommend Season 1—you witness genuine relationships forming, unlike in later episodes where characters’ relationships feel more pre-set and lack depth.
I think I’ll comment and highlight the brilliance of Season 1 by focusing on the characters.
Lee—Enough said. Clem's protector, seen heroically navigating a sea of walkers in the final episode, is simply a hero. Yet, he’s also flawed; he killed his wife’s lover in a moment of (misunderstood) rage. He protects Clem but doesn’t sacrifice everyone else for her, unlike Kenny. He stays calm and faces the consequences of his actions. Like anyone, he wanted to hide his violent past but could also face it openly. When bitten, he remains the team’s anchor and focuses on saving Clem. Like Clem, I miss Lee.
Clementine—the true protagonist of the series (a realization that surprised me, LOL). Her recklessness (seeking her parents) leads to Lee’s death (and Ben’s too), but she saves Lee many times. Think about it; she’s only eight (nine when Lee dies). Her longing and connection to Lee are deeper than with her own parents, which really moves me. Her resilience surpasses that of many adults. I look forward to Season 3.
Some other characters, like Kenny—I don’t like him much. I don’t know what he’s thinking—Duck caused Shawn’s death, and Kenny, after refusing to save Shawn, blames Lee. He can’t face killing a zombified loved one, yet casually kills others' zombified family members (like Lilly's father). And in the end, he blames Lee for not siding with him during his impulsive moments. This was my choice, of course; you could always choose to support him. But even later (no spoilers for content beyond Season 1), he shows that he can’t control himself, posing a risk to the group. I understand his pain, but he causes too much conflict. Nevertheless, he did save my life (e.g., from Lilly's dad).
Lilly and her father—I initially thought Lilly might be a romantic interest. But no, lol. Her casual killing of Carley or Doug made me unable to stick with her. Her father almost killed Lee. These team members simply couldn’t be part of my journey.
Reflecting on my favorite character so far, I realize it might be Mark, though he appears briefly and meets a tragic end. The cruelty of episode 2 is more memorable than the scenes of killing walkers. In the end, Mark drags himself on the floor to kill his enemies and save our lives. I was moved. In episode 2, there’s a bug where using a controller makes it impossible to avoid being killed by Andrew on the electric fence—I had to use the keyboard to bypass it, as per forum advice. This bug has been around for over a decade and hasn’t been fixed.
Ben is the only one who stays with me in the end. He’s just a kid, but he proves himself to some extent. I’m not sure if he ever becomes fully trustworthy.
Carley—There’s a potential romantic subplot with her, even though she initially had mutual feelings for Doug. She’s calm, skilled with a gun, and saved us multiple times. Her death, caused by Lilly (and Ben), feels pointless (or maybe it was because the developers didn’t want to continue branching storylines).
Omid is kind but lacks notable abilities. Still, it’s reassuring to have someone trustworthy. Unfortunately, his wife Christa is ruder and more selfish (though she has her reasons). This limits Omid’s performance.
In summary, this game is highly recommended. Even if you don’t have time to complete the rest of the series, just finishing Season 1 is worth it. It leaves a long-lasting impression and tells a complete story. Although your choices can’t change the ending, the different experiences make it memorable. So, I suggest not trying to please everyone or intentionally saving people you know will live longer. Be in the moment and make choices from the heart. Then, when others remember you afterward, you’ll think back to who you were and the choices you made. Those memories are the most captivating and moving.
This is a great game that showcased amazing character development and a perfect storyline to go with the flow.
I recommend every gamer to buy this game to get the feel an action packed and satisfactory experience of creating your own story by making decisions by yourself.
Amazing story, Great characters, Fun to play.
All over a great game would HEAVILY recommend.
A game that proves that a masterpiece does not need graphics and action, but just a great story. The Walking Dead is an excellent game with remarkable characters and an exciting plot in such a way that any defect or limitation is left aside through this experience, a game that will be eternally marked in memory of any player who likes good stories.
