Definitely shows its age but nonetheless it's quite a ride. Recommended. I'm waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2 now, wonder when it'll drop... if ever. This game is good, though!
Gorgeous visuals and seamless storytelling, no matter which choices you make and the consequences that follow. One playthrough is not enough.
I was choosing which one to play first between this and The walking dead. I heard of the fable comics but never got to read it so I thought to give it a go first. As for this reason I was confused at the start of whats going on with some of the scenes lol but slowly i figured it out. This kind of detective role-play really hooked me up from the start. When in the beginning it told you the game is tailored the way you choose and it definitely lived to its mechanism. Each choices really take it to a different angle which really intensifies the realism. I have played other 'choices matter' genres but those really doesn't affect the outcome sometimes but this really lives up-to its demand. Now looking forward to their TWD series to start with. Thanks telltale for this amazing game. Hope will get to play a sequel in the future. Highly Recommended 9/10.
Streamed it and being able to have the community make decisions made it fun. What a messed up story it was good.
Had this sitting in my library for a good while, finally got around to playing it. Quite enjoyable detective story, finished it in one session it was that good!
The Wolf Among Us is an immersive, choice-driven game with a gripping story and unforgettable characters. Its dark, comic-inspired art and atmosphere make it a must-play for fans of narrative-driven adventures.
Best game ever! The story line and options are super engaging and fun.
i fucking love this game. everything is just so perfect. the character dynamics, the plot, the gameplay oh my goddd AHHHH I CANTTT BIGBY WOLF I WANT U SO BAD
Fun game, finished over 2 sessions, interesting mature story, good characters, interesting choices. Just all in all a good time
where is the second season? you cant just cold turkey me man, please i need it man cmon man i need it just a demo man please something just a little hit of that scraped gameplay or some cut content... JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING YOU BASTARDS!
It's good and there is some replayability at that (I sure am). I'm not sure if there will be a fast forward or skip option after finishing the game, which will suck (I would have liked that in a first play through). There may not be and is and possibly will be a negative point with the game. There are some character options/stories which you would like more seen, but it's not about wanting to see the origin stories outside of the game from the real sources, but from the game. Reason I'm talking about this is because this is a choice game, so seeing something more depends on those choices, which I'm sure I missed out on. (Which is common in these types of games I know) There are comics to see more as there is chapters, but I felt like I missed something, especially bloody mary (felt like an obstacle nothing really more than a fight which was cool, but she fell a little flat). Also, nothing too more explained about her (she showed up and said her origin story thing and that was it basically. We see her again, she different and fight her and she got nerfed without her something something. That was it with her, kinda disappointing.
The game felt a little outdated (gameplay), but even then in 2013 and not too much open world was a sort of miss? I'm not saying the whole game needed to be open world (only some sections where you could move around), but like the character movements felt very wonky, didn't feel good.
Steam says there is controller support, is there something wrong with my controller? Because shit didn't work and even in settings I didn't see anything related for controller or did I miss something?
There is also a minor bug where when going to a chapter at least chapter 3 I think it starts, animated scene won't start and choices will be left blank. It was confusing, all I had to do was go to home screen at restart the episode and it got corrected.
I'll give this a 7.5/10, no real big reason to give this game a negative review, not that I found anyways.
I was wholly invested beginning to end. The characters were very well written, and the artstyle is very unique and impressive for its time, Can't wait for the sequel!
This game is wonderful, I'm enjoying it so much. I'm on my second play-through at the moment. It makes me want to check out the associated comics, for sure.
Imagine a game where fairy tale characters and a noir inspired style are merged together, and you get The Wolf Among Us. Developed by Telltale games, the game follows their episodic and narrative driven formula. The story is engaging and blends detective work with supernatural elements. The atmosphere is gritty, dark and tense, reinforcing the noir asthetic. Visually the game has a cel-shaded comic book art style. The voice acting is great, and greatly enhances the character development. There is a lot of dialogue and choice based options that will determine character relationships and story progression. Pacing issues occurred at certain parts of the game. Overall, this game has a unique and immersive story, and shouldn't be missed.
Usually i am not a fan of the "fairytales but they're like, edgy and real and do drugs" type of stories, but I really enjoy this series take on it (even moreso than the original Fable comics it is based on). I enjoy all the lil choices and scenerios, the characters are nice, and Bigby himself can be really charming, depending on how you play him. It's easy to really get sucked into the world.

Very awesome game to get real into, personally I felt very gripped and invested into the story like most TellTale games I have played. If your looking to kill an afternoon with a quick story based game this is defiantly a good pick especially with the New York setting mixed with fairy tale characters
Telltale Games' The Wolf Among Us is a gripping narrative adventure that expertly blends fairy tale lore with a gritty noir atmosphere. Based on the Fables comic series by Bill Willingham, the game reimagines iconic storybook characters as flawed, complex individuals navigating the challenges of life in the modern world.
The story places you in the role of Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown, a hidden community of exiled fairy tale characters in New York City. As Bigby investigates a grisly murder, players unravel a dark and layered plot that dives deep into themes of morality, redemption, and the price of choices. The narrative is engaging from start to finish, with twists that will keep you guessing and emotional moments that linger long after the credits roll.
The game's characters are its beating heart. Bigby is a standout protagonist, balancing his feral nature as the Big Bad Wolf with his role as a protector. Supporting characters like Snow White, Bufkin, and Georgie Porgie are equally well-written, each contributing to the story's depth and emotional weight. Dialogue is sharp and dynamic, with Telltale's signature choice-based system allowing players to influence relationships and story outcomes in meaningful ways.
Visually, The Wolf Among Us is a triumph. The cel-shaded graphics mimic the aesthetic of the Fables comics, blending vibrant colors with dark, moody undertones. The environments-from the seedy streets of Fabletown to the opulent halls of the Woodlands-are richly detailed and immersive. The atmospheric soundtrack, with its synth-heavy score, perfectly complements the game's noir tone.
Gameplay mechanics focus on exploration, dialogue choices, and quick-time events. While simple, these mechanics serve the narrative well, keeping the focus squarely on storytelling. The weight of your decisions is palpable, with many choices leading to impactful consequences that encourage multiple playthroughs.
In conclusion, The Wolf Among Us is a stellar example of interactive storytelling at its finest. Its compelling plot, unforgettable characters, and striking visual design make it a standout in the adventure game genre. Whether you're a fan of the Fables comics or a newcomer to the series, this game offers a rich, emotional experience that's not to be missed
Rating: 9/10
Graphics are still fantastic! Gritty and fun, and appeases my inner comic book nerd. Cannot recommend enough. I'm still crossing my fingers the second game comes out soon.
This game and Telltale's TWD (Now under Skybound) are my top games from this publisher. These games give you actual choices which impact the story and when they say "the game is tailored by how you play" they mean it.
Pick this game up on sale and have fun! It's a wild ride
Telltale's magnum opus, and their only good modern title whose success hasn't yet been abused by the release of a half-baked sequel/s. Emphasis on YET because given the news surrounding Wolf Among Us 2 (or lack thereof), I'm very skeptical about leaving that previous statement as a definitive one. Not that poorly made sequels ever changed my opinion of the original, but I thought it was something noteworthy to mention.
Back to the topic at hand, this game is characterized by two very well executed elements: great voice acting and beautiful, vibrant visuals, stylized to appeal to the tastes of a mature audience. It features a cel-shaded artstyle, emblematic of virtually all of Telltale's titles released during the 2010s, but I think it's The Wolf Among Us that best utilizes the style. It does so by painting a world that is charming, with its diverse ensemble of colorful characters and locations, ranging from the fantastical to the caricatures of real life, while also revealing the gritty, nastier undertones of its criminal underworld. Let's also remember that the source material is a comic book, the medium from which cel shading was inspired.
A criticism I often see in reviews of Telltale games is the lack of gameplay, but I don't mind this so much. I can cede most, if not all gameplay as long as everything else being presented to me is enjoyable. The one area where this does bother me (this is more of a criticism of the writing) is in the lack of choices for dialogue. The big emphasis in the advertising of Telltale games is in the choices given to the player. "Choose your path." "Your decisions affect the story." To an extent, these statements may be true when looking at the minutiae of different dialogue responses you get with different choices, but that's about it. There is the occasional major decision, and these can affect the story in a noticeable way, but they're few and far between, easily recognizable, and the end result is more or less the same. What I would suggest, since this seems to be an issue with almost all of their games, is for them to incorporate more dialogue options for the player to choose from. Not all interactions need this, but the ones during moments of tension or confrontation shouldn't be limited to 100% passive, 100% aggressive, a weird mix of both that I'm positive almost nobody ever chooses, or silence. If my ending is predetermined, then let me feel that the responses or reactions I choose are mine.
A really captivating story. Coming from The Walking Dead games I'd say this is different enough in delivery to be considered a really worth playing experience, sure you'll gonna get a lot of reminders from TWD since its the same game engine, but in terms of story telling this one is a really good game.
I really liked the theme and the characters are memorable, don't wanna spoil the experience so bottom line is you should really play this game. Definitely the best Telltale game for me.
What a beautiful game, from start to end it feels more like a interactive novel rather than a game. every episode always has a surprise and the ending is just peak and perfect,
The Wolf Among Us is an absolutely captivating experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story is deeply intriguing, full of twists and turns that never fail to surprise, ensuring you’re hooked at every moment. Telltale Games has truly outdone themselves with this title, blending an engaging narrative with rich character development. The dark, gritty atmosphere, set in the world of Fables, brings a unique and immersive touch to the adventure genre. Despite being released years ago, The Wolf Among Us remains a classic of its kind, showcasing Telltale's mastery in storytelling and decision-making gameplay. If you're a fan of narrative-driven games, this is a must-play that still holds up incredibly well.
Options don't really make a difference but the story is amazing!
a really good game. if you like detective like games with a reall solid story this is def a game you would enjoyy.. was not expecting to like it as much as i did. i probably wouldnt play it with kids in the same rood with ya tho lol..
Telltale did a great job reflecting the moods and the personalities of characters in this game. It is a melancholic masterpiece, overall has a depressing setting throughout the game. If you like mysteries and crime then this game is for you.
The hero of The Wolf Among Us is Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of the Fabletown neighborhood located somewhere in the outback of New York, in which fairy-tale characters try to live a normal human life. Like the world around us, Fabletown is in decline, people disillusioned with the corrupt bureaucratic machine turn to crime, and the sheriff has a hard time. Especially considering that thanks to his difficult character and dark past (how many atrocities the big gray wolf managed to commit in fairy tales!). There are many reasons for those whom he is supposed to protect as part of his duty to fear and hate Bigby. The game is dedicated to the investigation of the chain of murders that shocked Fabletown, and the player in this investigation is destined for the role of a passive observer: until the Wolf examines all the important places and exhausts the branches of dialogue, the narrative will not move further. Of the characters in The Wolf Among Us, only about half were taken from Fables, and it should be noted that the characters Telltale created not only fit seamlessly into the story dedicated to them, but are also quite charming in their own right. The developers decided not to limit themselves to old folklore and literary fairy tales and turned to urban legends. So, in the game you can meet the Jersey Devil and Bloody Mary. In essence, The Wolf Among Us is a standard detective story, which contains all the necessary genre clichés, but in strict dosage. There is a sleepless New York, flashing street lights, a bar with regulars and a nightclub with sad dancers, run by a cheeky pimp. There is corruption, visible but irresistible. There are piles of papers, packs of smoked cigarettes and the investigator himself, not without cynicism, tired, with constant stubble on his face. At the same time, the direct detective component in the game seems almost conventional: the Wolf is only involved in collecting evidence at first, and even then not too diligently, and interviewing witnesses comes down to skirmishes, in which residents often blame our main character for all the troubles. Yes, I can’t say that the game can be put on the same level as The Walkin Dead, but at the same time it is worthy of the attention of fans of the interactive cinema genre. The game has its shortcomings, but it is not without its advantages. I recommend playing it. I liked the game
Love this game, great storyline and very replayable.
Another game I haven't touched in a bit and barely remember, but god, do I enjoy the art style of this beautiful game. I remember the plot of this game being really good and mysterious too.I enjoyed the character designs and how they're written, overall I would recommend this game to those who are into murder mysteries. Also Bigby Wolf is sooooo sexy
As Someone Who Enjoyed Telltale Titles Like Batman: The Telltale Series, The Enemy Within, And The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us Is Yet Another Fantastic Experience. The Game’s Unique Art Style Immediately Drew Me In, And Though I Was Initially Worried The Detective Gameplay Might Feel Slow, The Pacing Was Just Right, Keeping Me Hooked.
Bigby Wolf Is A Fascinating Protagonist, And The Gritty, Noir-Inspired World Of Fabletown Is Packed With Mystery And Memorable Characters. It’s A Great Game That Never Bored Me, And I’m Now Even More Excited For The Second Season. Highly Recommended For Fans Of Story-Driven Adventures!
great storytelling and a fun game in general, must try;a telltale banger
Real shame it took this long for us to get even a peek at a sequel. Forgot how good this game was. Really hope we get to see more from these characters soon. Well worth the purchase, complete story so don't worry about it on that front.
Rating: 8/10
The Wolf Among Us is an engaging and immersive experience that excels in storytelling and atmosphere. Based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic series, the game introduces players to a gritty, noir-styled world where fairy tale characters live in hiding among humans. This blend of mystery, fantasy, and drama sets the stage for a thrilling adventure.
The story is the highlight of the game. You play as Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown, tasked with investigating a series of brutal murders. The narrative is gripping, full of twists, and keeps you guessing until the very end. Each character, from the fierce Snow White to the enigmatic Ichabod Crane, is well-written and memorable. Bigby himself is a complex protagonist, balancing his violent past with his desire for redemption, and the choices you make as him feel weighty and significant.
The decision-making mechanics are where The Wolf Among Us truly shines. Your choices shape the story and alter how characters perceive you, adding replayability. However, some choices seem more impactful than others, and at times, the illusion of control is apparent.
Visually, the game is stunning. Its cel-shaded art style and dark, moody color palette perfectly capture the noir aesthetic. The environments are richly detailed, and the animations, while sometimes stiff, mostly enhance the experience. The voice acting is another standout, with performances that bring the characters to life and add emotional weight to the dialogue.
Gameplay-wise, the quick-time events (QTEs) during action sequences can feel repetitive and occasionally disrupt the flow of the story. However, the focus on narrative over traditional gameplay mechanics works in its favor, drawing you deeper into Fabletown’s mysteries.
The episodic structure is well-executed, with each episode ending on a compelling cliffhanger that keeps you eager to continue. That said, the pacing can feel uneven, with some episodes dragging compared to the more intense moments.
Overall, The Wolf Among Us is a masterpiece in interactive storytelling. Despite minor technical flaws and occasional pacing issues, it remains one of Telltale’s best works. Fans of narrative-driven games, noir fiction, or fairy tale reimaginings will find plenty to love here. It’s a game that leaves you thinking about its choices and characters long after the credits roll.
That bit in the description about your every decision potentially having "enormous consequences" is objectively false, which is apparently not illegal to lie about when selling a game. This is Telltale we're talking about; these games are more like bastardized visual novels that trade in multiple routes and real story consequences for animation, QTEs, and very minor decisions that will, at most, alter some flavor text.
That sounds harsh, but I don't mean it in a particularly negative way. This is actually a pretty good use of the source material in my opinion, and for all my criticisms of Telltale over the years, I can honestly say I think they have had some solid writers. The story fits in the universe quite well, but you will notice a few lapses here and there; sometimes you're railroaded into being an idiot and not connecting the dots despite interacting with clear evidence at the scene, sometimes the response you get to a conversation choice is illogical or flows poorly, and still others just don't fit within the universe itself (For example, how in the world does Bigby get away scot-free with going full Werewolf, then sprinting through the streets, jumping on cars, and scaring a family in their apartment?).
If you're willing to drop $15 for what is essentially an interactive comic, you ought to be able to get some enjoyment out of this, even if it is propped up by the Fables IP itself.
Replaying this again in the lord's year of 2024 and still no other choice game even comes close. The plot, the art style, the twist? 5 stars.
Please more choice based games. please.
I went into TWAU with HIGH expectations after hearing about it for so long, and I have to say- it delivered. From the moment I started playing, I was hooked on the dark, gritty atmosphere and gripping story. It really feels like a comic brought to life, and I found myself examining every scene and hunting for all the little details, just in case I missed something.
Bigby is such a great protagonist. I loved playing as him and deciding what kind of person he is through the choices. The game constantly makes you question your decisions and keeps you on edge, making it almost impossible not to feel completely invested in the characters and the world.
The art style is stunning, and the tension, mystery and cliffhangers throughout the story are incredible. That said, I have to admit the ending left me a bit... Disappointed? But that’s just my personal opinion, and it doesn’t take away from how amazing the overall experience was.
This is a game that really sticks with you. I’ll definitely replay it someday to pick all the choices I didn’t the first time. If you haven’t played it yet, man what are you waiting for just try it.
ive only done one playthrough and i absolutely love this game, i also love the telltale TWD games but it feels like the decisions in this game means more than in TWD i decided to be an absolute menace so everyone feared me and i absolutely loved the stuff i did and i really and i mean REALLY recomend this
The Wolf Among Us is a fine example as to the incredibly rich, almost pulsating action that can run through a story that Telltale creates. Rarely have I played a game that seems to take into account what you do as much as TWAU. Every choice has consequences, some of which stay with you for the entire game, affecting other character's perceptions of you as well as the options you can exercise. TWAU is more than a story, it is an experience that requires your attention, and your critical thinking. Sometimes you have to make certain sacrifices, or compromises in order to get what you want. Sometimes what you want is not the same as what everyone else does. You can choose what kind of Wolf you'd like to be, as well as how others react to important decisions. In the end, TWAU is a masterpiece that is as close to 'The Perfect Game' as can be. Play it for yourself, and find out.
Magnificient story game, or maybe it is not even a game, it feels more like a interactive novel, but anyway it is very good and if you like story games with themes of fantasy or mystery solving, this might just be the game for you.
10+ y/o game btw … and it’s better than some games we have now
only thing better would be twau 2, but that’ll probably be “when the rivers turn course and the sky bleeds fuckin gypsies.”
If i say anything ill be spoiling the story. Just know its best to go into this game blind and play. I buy the game, and i was 9 when this game came out. So i never played it till now. I'v herd about it, but never bothered to watch videos at the time. But i got the game and wanted to play it. And it was worth the 15$ and i beg you to buy it at full price. It is one of the best game i'v ever played.
I almost dont want to get any more games like this because i think ill be let down by the other games in this genre. If you want to get all the endings its about 20 hours of game play, i did the neutral ending for my first play through. And i think im going to do the other endings as well.
Go play it good, and any PC can run. You can even play it on the steam deck.
Hello everyone!
I tried this game on the recommendation of my friend Reza. I must say, from the very first hours and episodes of the game, I fell in love with its storytelling and characters. And of course, there were times when I almost deleted the game because of some events and characters!
I give it 10 / 10 and highly recommend everyone to experience this masterpiece.
100% Achievement Review: A review based on my experience completing all the (available) achievements.
Title: The Wolf Among Us
Summary: Detective Story Game
Personal notes: This is one of my favourite Telltale games. Has a very unique take on a mixture of classic tales such as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and Red Riding Hood. Only a few achievements are missable with entries varying in chapters but it is super easy to replay the other sequences quickly. Supposedly a sequel is set to release and I'm looking forward to playing that as well. The Wolf Is What?

With the unique setting and a rich and well thought of story it is a easy recommendation!
I first fell in love with Telltale games with their game for Back to the Future. This game was on my radar for a while but I misunderstood what it was. I originally thought it was a werewolf game. While that is, somewhat true, it's more about the characters, being different fable/fairytale/etc. characters and the story. As soon as I started playing I fell in love with the visual style, characters and storytelling. It's dark and somber without trying too hard and I really found my invested in the story, the characters, their dilemmas, emotions and everything about them. It made me wish I hadn't put off this game for so long. It's a fantastic game if you are into storytelling and making choices. I highly recommend it.
I first played through this almost a decade ago, and coming back to it all these years later I still think it's the best work Telltale ever produced and maybe the best example of this kind of "choices matter" narrative driven game. The mystery is interesting, but it's the characters and writing that make this game so special, and while certain events will transpire regardless of what you do, there is a real sense that your decisions are influencing things in ways both subtle and obvious. The art style holds up very well (even if the animation wasn't the best even in 2013), and the game just has this fantastic dark vibe that's faithful to the material it's based on. Great stuff!
I love this game, I've had it on PC and I believe mobile and I have replayed it on the PC quite a few times. I'm still waiting for TWAU2 and I can't wait to see there that story takes us!
Fantastic Story, Fantastic Characters. I Played it all in one sitting, as I was hooked from the start. The Wolf Among Us Truly is Telltale's Magnum Opus. Still holding out hope for a sequel.
