Achievements only seem to work if you have the collector's edition enabled (see discussions about this), which is really crummy considering they're listed in here. Oh and wait, low and behold even tho I own said collectors edition DLC they still don't normally work. Trying to find work arounds to deal with it even though they've known about it for over a year is nuts. Game itself is ok and functions, but I also had crashes that rolled back my progress which is beyond frustrating.
So... having played hundreds of the Artifex Mundi games (it's an addiction, help me xD ), I dunno if there is any relationship between this game and studio and them... but it's all somewhat similar, which is great for me!
It's also longer than your average Artifex Mundi game, which is ok.
The story is somewhat similar to Artifex Mundi titles... a mix of myth, folk tale, magic, past lives, etc... the base is the Indus civlization this time, South Asian mythology. But you are a modern character, a mom who gets involved in a car accident and sees her daughter get kidnapped... an investigative story follows then delving into an entire story about the character past lives and whatnot.
Mechanics also resemble Artifex Mundi games mechanics quite a bit... you have hidden object parts with variations between word correspondence, sillouette type games, object parts, and then a bunch of puzzle games.
It also has a bonus games that is a continuation to the main story that feels incomplete without it. Collectibles are also there.

So this is a find the object/craft recipe/"puzzle" game. You can switch out some "puzzles" with a Connect 3 game. I'm not terribly intrigued so far by the story because it just involves trying to find your bratty kid who has been kidnapped. But since it isn't terribly challenging it can be nice to play when I'm really tired and just want to pass the time.
I wish there was a HALF and HALF recommend button because I really enjoyed the puzzles and the art style BUT....
the story is a little bit all over the place and the voice acting feel off... Also, the animation kind of ruins the art style and can be visually displeasing at time... Half animating still images by distorting them to make them talk pulls you out of the game when you want to be pulled in. Some characters are supposed to be beautiful or cute but they just end up looking creepy.
You can tell that there was work put into the game but some areas like the animation and voice acting feel rushed and just kind of trown in... The game would of been better as just an interactive puzzle solving novel with still images instead but other then that, if you are looking for something to do on a rainy day for a couple hours, this game is perfect for that.
If you like solving puzzles and dont really care abouthow a game is animated, i would say its a good game overall. Just make sure you read the details in your game notes so you understand the story a bit more because without it, the story feels all over the place.
Look, it's fine, technically.
The gameplay is nothing remarkably different from any other similar game. The HO scenes are exactly as you'd expect and the puzzles and mini games are actually quite good. Ordinarily, this would be enough for me to recommend the game.
But I don't.
The issue is that the story is so overwhelmingly terrible. I don't play these for the story, so don't expect a good one, but this one was so bad it couldn't be avoided. All of the characters are irritating, to say the least. They try too hard to get you to care, taking what feels like aeons of time to show you cutscenes and voiced letters which just made me want to give up.
Clumsy attempts at invoking the joys of motherhood are jarringly paired with an inexplicable, wooden romance and bizarre undercurrents of past life reincarnations. None of them are done well and all made me want to pull me hair out.
Furthermore, they so desperately want you to buy their DLC that they constantly flog it to you just to give you any sense of accomplishment.
Please don't play this, you can get much better games for the same price range. Save yourself.
The Cut Content Re-released Edition
This game has been cut up and re-released so many times.
This so called "Standard Edition" had content cut and removed from it's original release just so they could then bring back the removed content as "Paid DLC" later.
This is an excellent hidden object game. I liked the deep, intricate story, even if it was a bit over the top, but that seems to be standard for these types of games. I was very impressed with the wide variety of puzzles in the game. The puzzle type rarely repeats, and they are fun and logical. The animations were nice too. Locations are nicely designed, and there's a good variety as well. The map and journal are nice touches.
There are a few side objects to watch out for to add some depth to the game. Although a few of the morphing objects never morphed for me to get them. A couple of times, I was stuck due to missing an area. We will all miss different things, but supposedly in the none expert mode, places are supposed to sparkle. Either nothing did, or only obvious things did. I didn't find it to be beneficial. My biggest complaint was clicking on an object and then hitting the go back prompt when doing a hidden-object puzzle. Very annoying. It would also display the no inventory objects message over the hidden object list. Making it impossible to read the middle item.
All in all, I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. If you're new to the hidden object genre, this or My Brother Rabbit would be a fantastic entry into it.
There's a lot of effort given into the story, the images are beautiful, and the voice acting is ok. The story is pretty lengthy (unless you're trying to power through it).
The story is, however, very cheesy, and the kid annoyed me. Minor gripes really in an overall fine HOG.
The whole game is based on a story. They have succeeded in creating the ambience related to it using awesome graphics and lively sound effects.
In each successive levels, the creators have put their best to bring something new to the players.

I have been playing this game for the last 4+ hours and its a very addictive game. The puzzles get challenging stage after stage. The background music and graphics are way much better than my expectations of a hidden object game. The one thing I felt odd is that, sometimes the expression of characters felt weird. Other than that, overall it is a challenging and addictive game with a good base story.

I have been playing this game for last 2 hours and I must say that this is the best puzzle game that I have ever played in my entire life! It's a package of extra ordinary graphics and storyline! The background music has also an impact on controlling our emotions throughout the game. I strongly recommending this game for all puzzle lovers on steam!

On the movies and screenplay have high level performance. Beautify graphics and smooth story tempo attract the player dig more deeper and deeper in the mystery.
The puzzles and small games is above standard level. Not too easy but wouldn't make the player frustrate. The level design and graphic of the hidden object scene are quit good and friendly. Without misguide or fuzzy issue.
This game is not only good for adult but also for kids. It's also support many languages. Hope has Chinese version in the future so to the person who mainly speaks Mandarin could enjoy the game more and more.

I really enjoyed the game, but I can't recommend this version, due to the errors I received (Not game ending) and that I can't complete this story or access the extras without the non exsistent DLC.
The story was compelling and the gameplay was fun. There were several grammatical errors, but nothing that actually hindered the story. I loved the HO areas, as they actually had reference to items I needed to solve the other puzzles and that several were puzzles within the puzzles, which I LOVE. I did get this game on sale, it was half off, but to my dismay, the standard edition is not complete and the DLC required to complete this game doesn't exist. When I first glanced at this page I didn't see an actual CE, just the music pack, so in order for me to get the achievements - I got most of the ones available on expert mode - I need to buy the full CE. I have noticed there is suppose to be the DLC for an extra $2 to upgrade. Not sure if that will ever happen, but that would make me feel more comfortable recommending this game.
Whilst the scenes are nicely drawn and there is a good variety of puzzles, I am giving this game a negative review for three reasons:
(1) the skip button protrudes far too far into the main screen and is too easy to accidentally click while playing certain minigames that place puzzle pieces close to it (edit 23-jan-18: due to be addressed in forthcoming patch);
(2) a number of achievements are broken / unobtainable as the morphing objects and memories are restricted to the 'Collectors Edition' version of the game (edit 23-jan-18: due to be addressed in forthcoming patch);;
(3) in order to replay the main story after completion, you need to create a new profile as simply clicking 'Play' again displays a message telling you to download an as yet non-existant DLC pack to see more of the story.
Until these patches and the often-mentioned DLC are actually released, I advise against purchasing this game.
I can't recommend this version of the game. (I do recommend the Collectors Edition, though.)
Many achievements don't work in the Standard Edition - which is fine, but they shouldn't be listed for the game in that case. But other achievements are bugged. I've finished twice now in Expert mode, with no hints anywhere and the game crashes at the very end. Maybe because it gets "confused" at all the achievements it's trying to award? (joke)
The tutorial is also for the Collectors Edition version of the game. It told me to click on a morphing object in the beginning screen, and the Standard Edition doesn't have morphing objects.
Those are the reasons I cannot recommend the Standard Edition. Another issue I have, though, is that the bonus content (available only in CE) seems like a main part of the story rather than simply optional backstory.
Bugged game - have crash from time to time, when it happens, the profile seems definitely corrupted - have to create a new one to play from the start again.
Bugged achievements - many achievements aren't even implemented in the game.
Staff team does not care at all - invisible on steam forums.
Worst deception of the year.
This game is a bit of a shame, really. The animations, backgrounds and music are all top quality and it really has the look and feel of an excellent game. The puzzles are generally good, with only one or two which I found a bit tedious and couldn't be bothered to finish. There's also good variety in puzzles and locations, and the voice acting isn't bad either - particularly considering some of the awful examples out there.
The story, however, is a real mess as it has too many twists and turns and a real lack of narrative focus. I also can't stand the daughter who I'm meant to be rescuing. There are far too many cut scenes of her giant, weepy, creepy eyes staring out at me, and the same tired dialogue: "When will you save me, Mummy?" "Are you coming soon?" and so forth.
The main trouble, however, is that there is a lack of transparency regarding the difference between the 'Standard' and the 'Collector's Edition' of the game. From forums it seems that the Standard Edition only has the main story and none of the collectibles or morphing objects, yet despite this these are still achievements in Steam. Ergo, if you bought the Standard Edition you're left with uncompleted achievements.
It also seems the other difference is the lack of the Bonus Chapter which you unlock after completing the main quest. The game prompts you that you can download additional materials, but the only option on Steam for DLC is the music. Therefore if you enjoyed the game, you'll have to shell out at least the same amount again to get half the content. This is not made clear on the store page.
Of course, I am just guessing here from what I can find out. It may be there are people there with Standard Edition who have all of this and this is just a technical bug - but there is no way of knowing!
I have contacted the developers and will see if they reply to these problems, and then may well update my review, but at the moment this aspect is so irritating that I cannot give it a good review.
A really good game. The story draws you in until the end, and the mini games are challenging with out being unsolvable.
Beautiful scenery, not the gloomy looking backgrounds that most games have. The only little thing that I was disappointed in was it does not say what happens to the dad. All in all, truly well done.
I really liked this game. It kept my interest. The graphics were very good and I liked the story. The puzzles weren't too difficult. The only negative thing I would have to say about it was going back and forth a lot in locations. I did like the map where you could jump to a location easily. I like to finish puzzles in one location before jumping to another but that is just my preference. All in all, it was an enjoyable game. I definitely would recommend it. I did like the idea that it wasn't just a hidden item game and had variety to puzzles.
