Super dark heartbreaking story... Absolutely amazing job by the game studio. 10 hours to play... very well... I like the idea of switching realities...
The storyline is so enjoyable, with the different between the two worlds adding so much. Highly recommend, though do check the trigger warnings as it is very dark :)
Never played many point and click adventure games mostly because they're notorious for having convoluted puzzles... I can't say this was completely free from them, but the fact that I got so frustrated to lookup a guide only twice probably means this is more on the fair/common sense side (of the two instances, one I could have came to the conclusion myself, while the other one -involving "hacking the season dial" - I consider it a poorly designed puzzle).
The hand-drawn art, especially the gorey one, is beautifu; sound design is good (no voiceovers but I can live with it). Story-wise, I didn't pay the most attention, but there is a good deal of world-building.
Good adventure game with quite fleshed out world, mood and characters. Could have used one more chapter, but highly recommended.
Probably the best horror & puzzle game on steam at the moment. VERY hyped for the planned sequel!!!
Fantastic game, 90% of puzzles makes sense, sometimes you just gotta try shit out. Amazing story, brings me back to the old school point and click adventures
This is one of my most favorite games, I can't stress that enough. It reminds me of my own characters and stories that I hope to tell one day. This game blends the feelings of despair/love amazingly. The main character Fran is such a sweetheart. As someone who's worked with kids, Fran is written so well for her age. My favorite character had to be Itward, for obvious skeletal reasons. I'll cross my fingers that one day there might be a Fran Bow sequel game.
this GAME IS SO AWESOME, it is a click type game with minigames in between and its very interactive. Theres a whole storyline and its very immersive. It also involves crafting things to get through, its like a escape room sometimes but even better. I loved it with my whole heart and soul, i LOVED Fran Bow<3
Can’t a girl just take her cat on a walk without experiencing inter-dimensional, time-transcending, mentally and life
-altering hellscapes? Jeez.
Amazing plot, beautiful character development, and amazing metaphoric value. Always a favorite of mine.
longtime fav of mine lol nice to complete it myself rather than watching jacksepticeye !! i promise it's fun
I'm too tired to write a well-done review so I'll keep it short,
The game is not scary as a horror game so everyone can play it, it's interesting with a good story and pacing, I'm honestly in shock after just now finishing it. It's a 9/10 (don't even have any particular reason for the grade not being 10/10 it just feels right it being 9/10 because nothing is perfect).
This game was very fun to play. I loved the Fran's plot line, though I sometimes I got confused. It was fun to get to travel to new realms and discover new creatures and solve a lot of puzzles. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who loves puzzles and horror themes.
i love this game so much it is worth every cent, the story and the design of this game and the visuals are delicious to look at. its a bit disturbing for those who cant stand blood but other than that this game is absolutely amazing :3
Fran Bow is a beautifully crafted game that feels like stepping into a hauntingly nostalgic storybook. Its unique blend of eerie visuals and a deeply emotional narrative creates a bittersweet experience that's hard to forget. I love how the game weaves its creepy yet profoundly sad tale, pulling at your heartstrings while keeping you on edge. The atmosphere is perfect for fans of dark fairy tales, and every moment feels like a trip down memory lane, filled with childhood wonder and chilling mystery.
for years i've seen gameplays of this game and i've always wanted to try it. it's such a well formulated game and i understand the hype and positivity around the game. there are so many details to each character and you discover as you go, everything is all put together and even when you replay the game there is new things you discover about something. so if you have any doubts about this game, dont because its one of the best i've played!!
Incredibly creative environments and characters, and also super accessible for non-point and click fans. As long as you're willing to draw your own conclusions, the story is also very engaging. It's short, but brisk. Definitely worth a try.
This game really surprised me. As someone that was going through survival horror games recently, I felt like I just wanted a horror game that I didn't have to worry if I was going to live or die every few minutes. Fran Bow is by far much more disturbing then I expected, love it. Its essentially a point and click horror adventure with a few jump scares but mostly disturbing story reminding me a bit of Sanitarium.
Out of 5 chapters, I only didn't enjoy chapter 3 that much and it is an important chapter to the story. Mainly because it does lose that horror aspect and its more fairytale fantasy. But the game goes back to horror in chapters 4 and 5 to finish off strong. Give this game a try if you are a fan of gripping p&c adventure games with a creepy vibe.
I love this game very much. It doesn't get boring and is entertaining until the end.
Even the "longer" story sequences and the longer conversations don't get annoying it actually grabs the player's attention a little more.
You can play through it in one day if you play for hours, but you can do it within 3-5 days if you play relaxed.
In addition, it is not too scary but bloody and makes you think about the story. There are no jumpscares, just much of "WTF?" ^^
This game is so charming. The graphics in this is literally from that of fictional children's storybooks but with a horror twist to and it's fantastic!
Moreover, the protagonist of the game, Fran, is an endearing character with an innocent personality as she tries to navigate her way to find her cat and escape the nightmare. I got this game on sale for 5 bucks and for that price the game obviously more than delivers. If you're looking for a point-&-click, this has gotta be top of the list.
- unique graphics that has a children's storybook look
- Fran is a great character.
- puzzles are challenging but never over-the-top where you think it wasn't fair. The puzzles hit just the sweet spot where when you uncover the answer, it's very rewarding and never feel cheated.
- the atmosphere and environments in this game are terrific.
Best point-&-click I've played thus far. Has a lot of personality in which I highly recommend. Props to the developer.
Dark and out of this world. The puzzle were quite hard sometimes. I enjoyed it, but I still don't understand Fran Bow story.
This game has a special place in my heart and has since I was young. As someone who has suffered from some serious mental afflictions in the past, Fran Bow tells the story well, I believe. It isn't abject fear most of the time, it just becomes normal. The story's depth of twist and turns will keep you engaged if the whimsical, macabre style wouldn't.
Amei esse jogo, a arte visual é linda demais. Os puzzles são divertidos de fazer e a história é cativante. Recomendo
Honestly this game is iconic, love the way theres so many hidden parts and allows you to click and combine things together. The story is dark but good, 10/10!
I adore Franbow, since the first time I watched markiplier play it I knew I had to give it a go myself. The artstyle is perfectly detailed but still reminds you of an eery childrens book. It has so many elements and such a good story. I am a sucker for horror point and clickers with fun mechanics and deep lore. If you are the same you should definetly give Franbow a try.
Gorgeous graphics and drawing style, the game is full of unexpectancy and requires a lot of creativity to pass on to the next quest. Full of twists and quite shocking at times. I recommend 1000%,
this game is truly a life changing expirience. Everything about this game is absolutely magnificent, had this game for a pretty long time now and i gotta say only 15k reviews is criminal cuz this game deserves MUCH MUCH MUCH more attention than it has... ofc only if you like how bizzare the game can be at times but its still something you should try. BEST 9 hours ever. Oh yeah the puzzles r quite difficult but everything has a solve on youtube so again something you should REALLY try out
The game is story based you need to read a lot but its super deep and up for the players interpretation it has some mildly complex puzzles and overall was a good game lots of content to stay satisfied
I'm torn on this. There's stuff about the story that I really like, but I do feel that some of it is dark or disgusting for cheap shock value. And I'm sorry, but the ending IS a cop-out. Also I have a personal grudge against media that demonizes mental health workers (yes, I know this takes place in a time when such practices were often inhumane, but the whole "pills distort the world around you" mechanic bothers me).
Still, I think the lore here, the characters, and the puzzles are enough for me to recommend it to adventure game fans with a decently strong stomach. I appreciate how different each chapter is, and that there is some nuance to even some of the villainous characters. It is definitely not for everyone, though, and it's a bit rough around the edges.
It’s so ridiculously dark.
I truly cannot believe I’m saying this, but the gore and darkness in the first two chapters were so intense, I actually missed it in the next ones. It started really strong and kind of lacked the same intensity as the game progressed. But hey, maybe all the dark content I consume numbed me a bit.
The art style is immaculate and without the doubt it'll stay in my head for a long time.
The term “red milk” is genius, so childishly innocent and yet so dark in the context of the game.
It's another thing I can't get out of my head.
Definitely jumped into my favourites along with Little Misfortune and Omori.
Yeah. I guess there’s something about suffering children that just gets me going.
Gorgeous thriller with some of the darkest themes I've ever encountered, yet the lovable protagonist's bright outlook clashing with her insanely mentally ill state and the Burton-esque style fight this game's nihilism to deliver a charming experience despite how stomach churning it can be. A must play for all goths.
Finally got to play this gem, and it’s everything I hoped for <3 Fran Bow absolutely still lives up to the hype
It's hard to recommend. It has no proper ending, and generally has the classic point-and-click problem of not giving you better clues regarding its puzzles, so you fall back on the habit of using a walkthrough. The story is alright, but since it doesn't wrap up it is hard to nail its theme, or the point of anything.
I remember being 12/13 when I first saw Markiplier's playthrough of Fran Bow and ever since then I just fell in love with the game! Now being 21 and being able to play the entire game for myself it really took me back to my young teen years. I enjoyed playing the game for myself and watching it on playthroughs! The plot, characters, and design really is something else and I definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a horror point-and-click with a touch of Alice in Wonderland. I remember cosplaying Fran Bow a couple of years back and even had a black cat named after Mr. Midnight, I really love this game and it won't disappoint!
Took a nap. Woke up in a world full of blood, monsters, drugs, and a talking cat -> 10/10 would recommend if you like to question your sanity (especially if u are high)
One minute you're solving puzzles, the next you're talking to a severed head, absolute cinema
"Is that my head?" - Fran Bow, 2015
this game is so nostalgic, i had watched people play it years ago and now i had gotten the chance to play it
i 100% recommend this game, im hoping for a part 2 ❤︎.
So, I recently played Fran Bow and I have to say, it's quite a nice game! The story is deep and dark, which I personally love. It really pulls you in with its eerie atmosphere and emotional narrative.
The gameplay is pretty simple since it's a point-and-click adventure. You solve puzzles and interact with different characters and objects to move the story along. The puzzles are good, but be warned—they might give you a headache from time to time!
The game has a unique art style that's both beautiful and creepy. It fits the dark themes quite nicely. However, if you're not good with handling gore and disturbing imagery, this game might not be for you.
The game excels in psychological horror, keeping players on edge with its unsettling soundtrack and mind-bending puzzles. It plays on the fear of the unknown, leaving players unsure of what’s real and what’s just a product of their unraveling sanity.
I find that games with difficult imagery and themes help me feel more at peace with my inner darkness. Feeling sympathy for the protagonist helps ground me and work on my own healing, which is something I also felt while playing The Cat Lady. I know other people have a harder time with this kind of rough imagery, but I find it almost comforting. If you have similar experiences, I think this game will be right for you.
This was a nice-looking, emotionally hard hitting game with only a few instances of abstruse "puzzle game" logic (which, I suppose, was to be expected, given that this is a point and click) and an interesting story. I like how some subtle hints gently point at possible real life issues (the lobotomy scars, the "vegetative state" title) and the tone was convincingly childlike, as well. I remember making up strange explanations for things as a kid and giving them extravagant titles, myself. Maybe it's an only child thing.
There are a few typos and some phrasing which sort of gives away that the devs aren't native English speakers, but that could just as well be chalked up to having a child narrator. It almost added to the atmosphere. Besides that, the ending was almost too neat - I wish I could have gotten more context or lore or something. Where does "Itward" come from, for instance? "Remor" makes me think of "Remorse" (a subtle clue, there), but other names are less suggestive. Maybe it's because I was a Lit major in college and I can't pass up the opportunity to overanalyze. In any case, I interpreted the game through a metaphoric lens, and I wish the ending had been more satisfying, given the other background conclusions I'd come to.
This game was absolutely amazing and I can't recommend it enough. I am not usually a fan of the point and click games, but this story was so interesting that I played it for 9 hours and enjoyed every minute!
Madly unique, interesting and fascinating game!
Loveable characters + designs and very good OSTs
I can't believe it took me 9 years to try this game. Don't be like me, play it NOW! It's worth every single penny! Amazing story, amazing atmosphere, amazing visuals and the puzzles are very fun and interesting. You can feel this game was made with a lot of passion.
I highly recommend this game! The artwork to this game is really good and I would say the story is unique. But also if you do decide to play this game, that there is blood and gore. ^~^
+ it's currently tied down with tales of the neon sea for the title of 'favorite adventure/puzzle game' - aaand that s coming from someone who dislikes the genre; the genre, particularly if you play too few and too far apart, feels a bit like a fever dream - it will make sense in retrospect... but if you re not the brightest bulb, it ll take you a while (and possibly a walkthrough)
+ void cat; and void cat handmade plushies
+ the art is wonderful
+ the story is mesmerizing
+ you ll totally adore it if you like shirley jackson (and probably viceversa)
+ I think the devs really like American McGee's Alice (which does not detract in any way from this game, because it s unique, and beautifully crafted)
let the creepiness envelop you. and invite it over for tea
Got this game ages ago, finally played it. Should have played earlier because this is a great damn game. If you are into darker and gloomier stories then this game is for you. Don't let kiddies play this. 9/10 very nice.
Fantastic game. Amazing story that makes you want to keep going. The puzzles make sense. I beat the game without the help of any guides then was able to get all the achievements which is so much fun to figure out on your own. Just pull the trigger and get it.
Getting completly lost during the game, not only in story but I think this game have a its unique charm by the characters, storytelling or graphics! We're balancing in a reality not knowing if things happening to us are just Fran's wrecked mind result or actual reality. This is what lobotomy does to people btw
Oh, this game, this point n click is lighting in a bottle that is both scary and cozy. We all need an Itward that scares us a little but helps us heal.
What a RIDE. It's a masterpiece, the story is open to interpretation. The devs made the heroine and the other kids sound very childlike. The imagery also seems like a product of a child's imagination, and I rarely see anything like this in art.
Still one of the best horror stories about a child's traumatic life events that in fact ties to real world events in Germany and a doctor named, Josef Mengele and yet there's so much depth to the fantasy aspect Fran Bow is experiencing, the combination of a horror and Fran's innocent mind hits emotions and memories of childhood dreams & follows through with an experience unlike any other.
Much more detail came from a review here, if you want a much deeper background and deciphering.

This game is purely beautiful. The story behind it so complex, with such raw emotion! As you go through the story you will experience sympathy for the side characters Fran interacts with, a whole lot of suspense in later chapters, slight uneasiness (depending on how well you do with really gory subjects), crazy plot-twists, and so much more. While playing this game, it's real fun/cool to see how in-depth these characters really are. You can really tell how much time went into the making of this game, I feel like it has everything, and with little to no plot holes at all! This has always been one of my favorite games and I REALLY recommend everyone to play this.
