Just finished Fran Bow and I don’t even know where to start—this game is a creepy, twisted fairytale wrapped in trauma and heartbreak. The art is gorgeous in the most disturbing way, and the story kept pulling me deeper into Fran’s broken little world.
It’s not just horror—it’s sadness, innocence, and survival with a side of bloody hallucinations.
Absolutely unsettling, and I loved it. 🐱🖤
10/10 for Mr. Midnight alone.
I could spend hours talking about this game it was absolutely stunning one of my favourite games EVER, I’m not that big of a fan of puzzle games but I absolutely love horror games so I had to try it out! the story behind everything, all the Characters the Music even the background everything is absolutely beautiful and stunningly done, if I could I would play this game again for the first time! Such an amazing experience I absolutely recommend this game to anybody who reads this who is looking for a fun Yet tragic horror puzzle game! It’s not too complex but not easy either, Definitely a 11/10 for me!
fun and unique adventure game, with plenty of horror and gore, and yet charming. the positive vibes take over and win in the end, making it a heart-warming experience and a beautiful memory
one of my fav click & point games you cant do anything wrong choosing to play this game.
I've loved fran bow since forever. Its such a beautiful game. killmonday games never disappoint🩷
This game has altered my brain matter. I discovered FranBow shortly after watching Gloom play through Sally Face ( a must watch play-through) I think I was about 11-12 when I really got into the painkiller that is indie/ psychological horror. FranBow is apart of a classic media trilogy of psychological horror. This is one of the three games (In my heart) to really flesh out and bring a beat to the heart of the genera. If you liked FranBow id check out SallyFace by Portable Moose or Little MisFortune also by FranBows Creator ( The Trilogy of Twisted Shit). The speech in this game does drag but its vital to keep your head wrapped around the swirly and "mind altering" story of Fran's. This game deserves massive props for story and its unique art style. Truly a one of a kind game that cannot be shown up. A must play for anyone needing an escape from reality, or just a vacation from our's.
Witnessed this game do the rounds on youtube back in the golden age, though I purposely didn't finish any of the watchthroughs, because I've always wanted to play myself, and It DOES NOT dissapoint, just as disturbing yet wholesome now as it was when I was a teen, no notes.
The game is "cute" and funny. I recommend this game for some dark laughs and light-brainwork.
TRIPPY CREEPY WHOLESOME. i've replayed this game more than once since i was younger. one of my favourite games that change my perspective on life and the layers of reality.
When love and creativity overcomes money and copying than you get a pure lovely game like this one. The simple point& click makes it even more a miracle of a game. A truly great work devs!
This puzzle game makes you dive into a universe all of its own, horror, kids and beauty, a bit like neverending story meeting alice in wonderland with a dark twist. Mesmerizing and highly recommended!
Will always recommend this game, one of the best story games out there. I rewatch Markiplier gameplay sometimes and I miss when this game first came out. Hoping a second game will be out soon.
I loved every second of it: the stunningly weird art, the haunting story, the clever puzzles—it was like diving into a dark fairytale I never wanted to leave. Honestly, I’m so overwhelmed with how good it was that my brain’s just screaming “I LOVED IT!” on repeat .ᐟ.ᐟ
Tragic mind bender ...
Deals with very dark issues of a fragile tormented mind.
Many disturbing scenes.
Not suitable for anyone with delicate sensibilities.
Mostly very well done although I didn't like the arcade style mini-games.
It pains me to have to leave a negative review but I have to.
I really really loved the first two chapters. They were very interesting.
The puzzles are fine overall. I didn't have a problem with them. The visuals are great too but the story and the ending leave much to be desired.
After chapter 3 I felt like I didn't understand a single thing they were throwing at me. With all the weird names and sudden tonal shift. And they end the game so suddenly as well.
Maybe it wasn't really for me. I'm sure a lot of people love to interpret things their own way and to an extent, I love doing that too. But Fran Bow didn't really give me much to go off of.
Games can have lore but the base story should be comprehensible. Lore is just smth that you go after if you enjoyed the presented story and want more; not what you have to get to understand everything.
Anyway. The devs' other work, Little Misfortune makes up for it. I played it on my phone and loved it. So give that one a try instead imo.
Not a bad game by any means, but while the game started off very promising, after the first act, my initial interest began to fade due to the incoherent story line and unimaginative story telling choices. As the game progresses, its appreciable quality decays to a something just slightly above mediocre with main gimmicks that were once novel starting to feel repetitive and starts to feel like a burden rather than features. Ultimately, especially towards the final act, despite some small highs here and there that carry a glimmer of hope, it all feels bland.
If it weren't for my disappointment with the game's (in my opinion) wasted potential, I wouldn't be leaving a negative review for it. I guess my expectations were too high due to high review score it received.
I love every single bit of this game, since it's release, watching youtubers play this wonderful game, and getting to play it myself! learning along with fran and solving the puzzles is so so fun. the storyline may be wacky but it brings hope to this demented soul of a dear 10 yr old fran.
Dark, Haunting, and Beautifully Tragic
Fran Bow is an experience that stays with you long after the credits roll. From the very first moments, it pulls you into Fran’s dark and twisted world, blending childhood innocence with chilling horror. The atmosphere is creepy, but the story of Fran’s struggles with loss, trauma, and mental illness is deeply moving.
The art style, a mix of unsettling illustrations and surreal landscapes, is both gorgeous and disturbing. The puzzles are clever, though sometimes tricky, and the game’s shifting between reality and Fran’s dark imagination adds a layer of mystery that kept me hooked.
It’s a game about overcoming inner demons, but it’s also a deeply empathetic tale. I found myself rooting for Fran through every heart-wrenching moment. If you love psychological horror with a strong emotional core, Fran Bow is a must-play.
I remember first finding this game through various playthroughs years ago, not really understanding it much, just liking the unsettling art and the eerie vibe. But finally playing through it myself left an unmistakable impact. What I found was so much more than just a horror game. It’s a deeply emotional, unsettling, and strangely beautiful journey through loss, trauma, and survival, seen through the eyes of a child trying to make sense of a broken world. The story hit me in a way I didn’t expect. It’s dark, yes, but also incredibly human and raw. The art style is haunting and surreal, perfectly reflecting Fran’s inner world, and the atmosphere stays with you long after you finish it. It's the kind of game that quietly carves out space in your memory and lingers there. I still think about it from time to time.
classic nostalgic game really good gameplay and gore
Awesome experience, art style that fit the dark themed children book nature of the story (om nom nom nom nom so scary and cute), and of course touching great story. I love every characters on the plot except ekhem the villains, they're so goal driven, it's a good thing tho. except the prince haha I like him but the other two is easily understandably hateable, and I am neutral for the nurses. I wish we got more of the queen she's cool.
I save it for so long cause I tend to feel down playing sad stuff but this is different. as Fran bow said
between guilt and fear, choose happiness.
Fran Bow Review
Overall Rating: 9/10
Gameplay: 8.5/10
Graphics: 10/10
Story: 10/10
Music and Sound: 6/10
Personal enjoyment: 7.8/10
The best way I can describe this game is a point-and-click puzzle with body horror, mixed with gothic horror, mixed with whimsical fantasy, which I know sounds like three completely different genres but believe me, it works.
What elevates Fran Bow beyond a mere horror game however is its soul. It’s not just about jumpscares or building tension, it’s about empathy. It invites players to sit with its emotional weight, to reflect on Fran’s resilience and the universal human experience of grappling with pain. Upon finishing the game, I felt... odd. Like I needed to sit in silence and contemplate not just the story, but my own life and the quiet beauty of its small moments. This introspective quality is rare for me, even among indie gems, and it speaks to the care poured into the game by developers Killmonday Games.
Fran Bow is a must-play, seriously, especially for fans of the horror or point-and-click puzzle genre, it's unsettling atmospheres and grotesque imagery linger long after the credits roll. For those who seek out exceptional indie titles, it’s a masterclass in storytelling and art direction. But its appeal transcends these niches. Fran Bow is a deeply human experience, a game that doesn’t just entertain but resonates on a profound level. Fantastic work, Killmonday games, great job!
This one of the games that got me into "gaming" bcz before this I thought that all abt gaming was like Counter Strike type of game, BUT thanks to this i discovered a new genre that I LOVE WITH ALL MY SOUL!! this game made my days, even more that i was a huge fan of the game before playing it so yeah, i know some people dont like this type of games but I totally recommend you try it out first.
I seen this game being talked about on Tiktok, so of course I had to check it out. I am a big fan of horror, puzzle, and psychological games that give you choices. The choice aspect give it more replay value. The story is great and the art is interesting to say the least. Would love to see this get remastered.
mabuka mabuka.. way better than little misfortune. i love Mr. Midnight. very fun
I remember watching the game play for this game long ago when i was little, Back when this game was very very popular. It had been on my "want to play" list for a while, I cannot begin to explain the joy i felt finally playing this. It was just as fun as it looks. The hand full of puzzles, Story line, Everything about it is just chefs kiss to me. I would absolutely recommend this game to people, A solid 10/10 to me.
Great visuals and diverse game play with some puzzles being difficult and others being easy, a great way to keep the play enthusiastic!
literally the best game I've ever seen. disturbes the comforted, comforts the disturbed. definetly recommend
This game is amazing, from the story line to art work to the characters, this is my favorite game of all time!
very fun :) I liked the puzzles and the art was MWAH delicious! also the lore and worldbuilding was REALLY interesting to me, I will probably go look at the wiki and watch a few theorie videos now haha
This game is designed beautifully. It is a masterpiece and the analysis one can derive from it and its connection to other games only adds to its mastery. 10/10.
Maybe it's just the Addams Family macabre trappings, but this game resonated with me more than expected. It's a light adventure game. There's only one section with a lot of lateral thinking (a.k.a. "moon logic") puzzles. Even that may be a stretch; it had some riddles I didn't feel like solving that were tied to a scavenger hunt.
Unsolicited advice: Be wary of this studio's follow-up game (Little Misfortune). It didn't have nearly as much appeal for me, but it makes the lack of voice acting in Fran Bow a strong selling point.
made me cry bc kitty die alot but he fine amazing game would recomend to my future kids
Very good game, keeps me very entertained! Fran Bow also has many fun features and puzzles which is extremely fun! 10/10 would recommend if you like fun horror-ish games :)!
One of my favorite horror games that I've played. I really enjoyed the story with all the puzzles and the unique characters. I would definitely recommend this to everyone who's a fan of horror games, you must play this game at least once.
I love this game! Its very unique the way you're able to switch between "realities" or time, very enjoyable.
Leans into elements not typically leaned into like mental illness and psychological trauma it has a dark atmosphere and difficult yet thrilling puzzles.
love it i have wanted this game for so long i got it done loved it the art is so good and the story omgg
played this game when i was 11, played it again now that i'm 20 and i still feel like my brain has been rawdogged repeatedly. i understand the plot a bit better but the characters keep giving me strong existential crisis now that i'm an adult. it was a healing experience tbh. i love this game so much oml. the artstyle and gore elements are still such a vibe even after all these years.
Probably the best point and click game out there, much recommended.
Replayed the game years after it came out and it still held up all the emotional and psychological intensity that it held years ago. Very reflection-inducing
fran bow is a great psychological story game , recommended to play little misfortune after finishing the game
Creepy, dark, beautiful.
A point-and-click masterpiece that is equally dark and gruesome as it is whimsical and innocent.
I really love this story and all the deep metaphors surrounding it. It makes me realize more than I like the more surreal, abstract types of games in terms of telling a story. A game where I'm thinking more about the big picture than anything else. I also love the puzzles and how you could figure them all out, but hard enough that if you look over details, you'll miss the answers. All in all, really recommend playing this game if you're a fan of story games/surreal games.
5/5 Perfect Game
The game has a very good atmosphere and design, but at the same time it seems that after half of the game the plot becomes boring
I discovered this game many years ago but haven't had the chance to play it until today. The artwork is incredible, but the complex story is the best part. Touching on topics that are very uncommon in other games from a kid's perspective and in such a graphic, disturbing way. It has fairly simple puzzle-based gameplay, but the narrative and visuals keep you constantly engaged. The story is quite confusing and complex, but that makes it all even better.
It's a classic with lots of gore and an interesting storyline. Since I discovered it, I have played this game more times than I can count.
One of my favorite games of all time! It's so clear to see the insane amount of passion and loves that the developers poured into every aspect of this game! From the incredible illustrations, to the beautiful yet haunting soundtrack, to the carefully crafted puzzles and story. Just an amazing time all around! You won't regret purchasing this work of art!
I don't really have a joke for this one, this is just a really beautiful and unique narrative point-and-click that in my opinion effortlessly avoids indulging too hard in cringey tropes and offers a fantasy narrative neither pretentiously ambiguous nor overly straightforward or dull. The bold sort of traditional 2D over Flash style fits its Edwardian aesthetic like a glove, and the characters ooze charm and offer well proportioned glimpses into an often literally layered worldspace. I feel like creepy and cute is exceedingly hard to get right; it's a bit of an artifact from the often extremely teeth gritting aesthetics of emo and mall goth subculture that continues to be milked by even more idea bankrupt Tim Burton wannabe millennial white girl type stuff in the music.ly/tiktok era. A Fran Bow review would be a weird way to bring it up if I didn't think the punctuation to its victory as a deft creepy n cute title was the fact it would probably would have failed in this regard had it come out any earlier or later and if it wasn't made by a non-American studio. It's not perfect in this regard, either, and being a narrative driven game you really are one and done and can very comfortably get through it completely in two sittings, but for the price tag, super indie level production and genuine success as being a stand out in an annoying genre, I really want to thoroughly recommend it.
beautiful art beautiful storytelling all around a great experience
