After witnessing the gruesome and mysterious loss of her parents, found dismembered at their home, Fran rushes into the woods, together with her only friend, Mr. Midnight, a black cat that Fran had previously received as a present from her parents.
In the forest, Fran goes into shock over the loss of her parents and when she recovers, she’s at Oswald Asylum, an oppressive mental institution for children, and Mr. Midnight is nowhere to be found.
After having a dream about her beloved cat, Fran decides to escape from the mental institution to find him and go back home to Aunt Grace, her only living relative.

Finally got to play this gem, and it’s everything I hoped for <3 Fran Bow absolutely still lives up to the hype
It's hard to recommend. It has no proper ending, and generally has the classic point-and-click problem of not giving you better clues regarding its puzzles, so you fall back on the habit of using a walkthrough. The story is alright, but since it doesn't wrap up it is hard to nail its theme, or the point of anything.
I remember being 12/13 when I first saw Markiplier's playthrough of Fran Bow and ever since then I just fell in love with the game! Now being 21 and being able to play the entire game for myself it really took me back to my young teen years. I enjoyed playing the game for myself and watching it on playthroughs! The plot, characters, and design really is something else and I definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a horror point-and-click with a touch of Alice in Wonderland. I remember cosplaying Fran Bow a couple of years back and even had a black cat named after Mr. Midnight, I really love this game and it won't disappoint!
Took a nap. Woke up in a world full of blood, monsters, drugs, and a talking cat -> 10/10 would recommend if you like to question your sanity (especially if u are high)

So, I recently played Fran Bow and I have to say, it's quite a nice game! The story is deep and dark, which I personally love. It really pulls you in with its eerie atmosphere and emotional narrative.
The gameplay is pretty simple since it's a point-and-click adventure. You solve puzzles and interact with different characters and objects to move the story along. The puzzles are good, but be warned—they might give you a headache from time to time!
The game has a unique art style that's both beautiful and creepy. It fits the dark themes quite nicely. However, if you're not good with handling gore and disturbing imagery, this game might not be for you.
The game excels in psychological horror, keeping players on edge with its unsettling soundtrack and mind-bending puzzles. It plays on the fear of the unknown, leaving players unsure of what’s real and what’s just a product of their unraveling sanity.
I find that games with difficult imagery and themes help me feel more at peace with my inner darkness. Feeling sympathy for the protagonist helps ground me and work on my own healing, which is something I also felt while playing The Cat Lady. I know other people have a harder time with this kind of rough imagery, but I find it almost comforting. If you have similar experiences, I think this game will be right for you.
This was a nice-looking, emotionally hard hitting game with only a few instances of abstruse "puzzle game" logic (which, I suppose, was to be expected, given that this is a point and click) and an interesting story. I like how some subtle hints gently point at possible real life issues (the lobotomy scars, the "vegetative state" title) and the tone was convincingly childlike, as well. I remember making up strange explanations for things as a kid and giving them extravagant titles, myself. Maybe it's an only child thing.
There are a few typos and some phrasing which sort of gives away that the devs aren't native English speakers, but that could just as well be chalked up to having a child narrator. It almost added to the atmosphere. Besides that, the ending was almost too neat - I wish I could have gotten more context or lore or something. Where does "Itward" come from, for instance? "Remor" makes me think of "Remorse" (a subtle clue, there), but other names are less suggestive. Maybe it's because I was a Lit major in college and I can't pass up the opportunity to overanalyze. In any case, I interpreted the game through a metaphoric lens, and I wish the ending had been more satisfying, given the other background conclusions I'd come to.
This game was absolutely amazing and I can't recommend it enough. I am not usually a fan of the point and click games, but this story was so interesting that I played it for 9 hours and enjoyed every minute!

I can't believe it took me 9 years to try this game. Don't be like me, play it NOW! It's worth every single penny! Amazing story, amazing atmosphere, amazing visuals and the puzzles are very fun and interesting. You can feel this game was made with a lot of passion.
I highly recommend this game! The artwork to this game is really good and I would say the story is unique. But also if you do decide to play this game, that there is blood and gore. ^~^
+ it's currently tied down with tales of the neon sea for the title of 'favorite adventure/puzzle game' - aaand that s coming from someone who dislikes the genre; the genre, particularly if you play too few and too far apart, feels a bit like a fever dream - it will make sense in retrospect... but if you re not the brightest bulb, it ll take you a while (and possibly a walkthrough)

Got this game ages ago, finally played it. Should have played earlier because this is a great damn game. If you are into darker and gloomier stories then this game is for you. Don't let kiddies play this. 9/10 very nice.
Fantastic game. Amazing story that makes you want to keep going. The puzzles make sense. I beat the game without the help of any guides then was able to get all the achievements which is so much fun to figure out on your own. Just pull the trigger and get it.
Getting completly lost during the game, not only in story but I think this game have a its unique charm by the characters, storytelling or graphics! We're balancing in a reality not knowing if things happening to us are just Fran's wrecked mind result or actual reality. This is what lobotomy does to people btw
Oh, this game, this point n click is lighting in a bottle that is both scary and cozy. We all need an Itward that scares us a little but helps us heal.
What a RIDE. It's a masterpiece, the story is open to interpretation. The devs made the heroine and the other kids sound very childlike. The imagery also seems like a product of a child's imagination, and I rarely see anything like this in art.
Still one of the best horror stories about a child's traumatic life events that in fact ties to real world events in Germany and a doctor named, Josef Mengele and yet there's so much depth to the fantasy aspect Fran Bow is experiencing, the combination of a horror and Fran's innocent mind hits emotions and memories of childhood dreams & follows through with an experience unlike any other.

This game is purely beautiful. The story behind it so complex, with such raw emotion! As you go through the story you will experience sympathy for the side characters Fran interacts with, a whole lot of suspense in later chapters, slight uneasiness (depending on how well you do with really gory subjects), crazy plot-twists, and so much more. While playing this game, it's real fun/cool to see how in-depth these characters really are. You can really tell how much time went into the making of this game, I feel like it has everything, and with little to no plot holes at all! This has always been one of my favorite games and I REALLY recommend everyone to play this.
I love Fran Bow for its surrealism and the way how it's plays with the boundaries of perception of reality. The game has a charm of both childish naivety and emotional depth at the same time. Such a fairytale, but with a twist. Very recommended!

tells a story of a little girl who is confused and lost about situations she was not prepared to handle. lots of fun adventures and plot twists that'll throw you (and fran) for a loop. probably one of the best click-based adventure games out there. a must play for everyone
while this game does have a very dark historical timeline for the story the story is still flipping AMAZING!!!!! this game has been my most favourite horror game since i was a kid (i watched game plays videos of this game while i was in middle school) and even still to this day it still spooks me playing it which is why i love this game the other reason is because of mr midnight ^v^

Fran Bow is easily one of my favourite games. I feel very emotionally tied to it as Fran reminds me of myself when I was younger and I used to take comfort in her relatability. The story is excellent, and has beautiful images and an incredible storyline. The characters are all very well written and there are a lot of hidden references or clues that paint a more in depth picture of the story and what has happened off screen. I really, really would recommend playing Fran Bow, its something that is very close to my heart.
This is hands-down one of, if not THE best indie adventure point and click games I have ever played through. The game-play does get relatively bloody and scary at times, so if you love a good dark story, that is also filled with magic and whimsical creatures, this is the game for you. You start playing as 10 year old Fran Bow who lives with her parents and her cat, Mr. Midnight. Fran is curious, and can either be very kind and polite or sassy with an attitude depending on who it is. The characters are spooky and odd, at the same time being incredibly love-able and easy to connect with. Traveling through various worlds playing as Fran, revives a spark in my love for these type of games. It is truly something so beautiful.

Fran Bow is a game which you get to experience through the eyes of 10 year old protagonist Fran Bow Dagenhart. And because of that things might appear "childlike" or "unlogical" at some points. Don't let that scare you away and enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of a (pretty messed up) young girl.
You might have found this game because of its "gory" reputation and yes, it does feature a lot of gore. Especially in the first two chapters. But be aware that this is the journey of our protagonist working through her traumatic past and complex emotions. If you're not ready to delve into this world and explore the symbolisms spread throughout it, if you expect this game to spell everything out for you, then this might just not be for you.

I loved this game. The art was sublime, the music was on point. It is pretty graphic as far as trauma goes. It really is a great exploration of death, grief, and how one might over come it.
Its one of the best game experiences i`ve ever had in my childhood/teen age years. Good to get it on steam as well.

Absolutely loved this game! Thought provoking, heartwarming and extremely disturbing/creepy, all in one bundle. The game took a decent amount of time to play, but I wish there was more of Fran and her adventures.
i finally finished it after 10 long hours. i bought it on sale a few month back but only played it recently because i had other things to do, im also very happy that i got all achievements though it wasnt in one run. i admit i did need some help during chapter three but you'd be surprised that i figured out the weird cog puzzle one on my own. i would defo recommend this to all of my friends they all like gory and whimsical games such as franbow and little misfortune. til the next sale!
I LOVED this game! It's the perfect blend of creepy/dark while also being cute. The puzzles were fun and a good variety of difficulties. I absolutely will replay this one sometime!
i like how well made it is for being 9 years old! it runs very well even on low performance computers, there are some spots were its just very shocking and i love how you are able to do it all in a day if you really wanted to, i dont think theres one but i think a Fran Bow 2 would be fun
This is a pretty good adventure game.
I was initially turned off by the game's adolescent, unrestrained horror visuals... Plastering every room with gore and guts is tiring.
The dialogue is very 'English-isn't-my-first-language.' Some characters benefit from awkward language, but anything aiming for clever or poetic misses.
The puzzles are better than average for the genre, but that's a low bar to clear.
But the game's pacey, and that trumps everything else. As long as you're solving puzzles, you're finding new rooms, new puzzle elements... Each chapter is like its own little adventure game with its own flavor of puzzle.
Fran Bow is a classic of its genre, with an interesting and thoughtful plot for its year, even after 10 years it plays very well, it’s good that I didn’t watch Let’s Play as soon as it came out, the game leaves a hint of unsaidness, it’s a pity that the game is so small, but very soulful and unique of its kind, I advise everyone who has not played to play, my rating is 9/10

+/- The story was nice. BUT the very last part was an unlogical mess and left me behind with a lot of unanswered questions.
-Also the end came very abrupt and sudden without any sense which wasn't satisfying at all.
Would I still recommend the game? Yes. Would I play it again? No.
One of the most beautiful games i've ever played. i remember watching it on youtube back when it was only a demo and following the story later when it released. it means so much to me and i'm so glad i've got to play it myself. absolutely recommending it to everyone
A gorgeous yet morbid story about a little girl and her quest to find her cat.
The art style and lore is amazing and unique with good gameplay.
Sometimes moments in puzzles feel a bit forced, where you have to have to do a specific sequence of events (as in, you have to listen to a character mention something, then interact with said character again to be able to continue the puzzle instead of continuing the puzzle after the first interaction), but outside of the few moments when that happens, the puzzle sections are great.
I also appreciate the fact you can translate what has been written in Ithersta, with a few typos here or there.
Overall a great puzzle game.
this game is one of my favorites.
I love absolutely averything about it, from the story, to the art style, to the gameplay.
I've wanted to play it for many years, but never had the opportunity to buy it, and also because it touches on some very dark themes, and is VERY graphic, so I don't recommend playing if you're not in a great place right now. I know I wouldn't.
it's physological horror, trauma, madness, sadness and gore presented to you on a plate in form of an anwsome and captivating point-and-click.

great game
a few puzzles don't make that much sense, but it's mostly fair
It's hard to find another point & click adventure game this engaging, I loved every second of it. It's twisted and heartwarming at times and made me question reality too. An emotional rollercoaster but in a very fantastic way. It was such a great journey playing this piece of art from start to finish, I just can't recommend it enough.
its definitely worth the 15 bucks, it took me about 8 hours to beat. good story and its engaging. very heartfelt
