Good puzzles, except for the cyrilic one, it was too simple and I overcomplicated it thinking I actually had to know cyrilic... you don't
While the 4th game was a complete disappointment for me, this game fixes every issue I had. Hints are back, no more do you need to google what the solutions are just because the puzzles are mind-boggling.
What's more is that you don't even need to use the hint system, maybe it's the experience from the last 4 games, or if this game is simply better, but the solutions are much more intuitive. I didn't have to find a cup with dried paint, then heat it up to get liquid paint, to then use as lubrication to get something else... Like who would even think of that naturally? The solutions in this game make sense. I got stuck at the very close end and ironically enough, the hint system was useless in that puzzle, so in the end I still had to check the internet for answers. Which is funny because the previous time I had to use the hint system JUST to check if I was on the right path... it straight up told me the answer, which was a tad annoying.
Talking to your companion gives you some direction. I remember some puzzles in the old games where you enter a new scene and you have no idea what you're supposed to do. "There are movable boxes? Ok, I guess I'll move the boxes. I don't know why I'm doing it, but it's the only action I can take here" Instead, now you enter a scene, you can talk to Nico and she'll say something like "We need to get up on that ledge somehow" and now you know what the puzzle is.
I liked all the... minigame(?) puzzles. They were all fun.
More importantly, in my opinion: SKIPPABLE DIALOGUE! They're back! We can now skip dialogue. So if you do an action that repeats old dialogue, you can just skip it, or if the game crashes (it crashed for me once at the very close end) you don't have to get through all the dialogue, just skip through it.
The game is back to its 2D Point and Click roots. While the 4th game tried to combine the Point and Click nature of its past with the Action Adventure 3D controls of “modern” games, it just made for an overall worse experience. Now we’re back with a true Point and Click game in a 2D space.
Cons for this game: no outfit changes... come on guys, we had several outfits in Broken Sword 3, how come we can't have that anymore?
The cutscene quality was oddly bad for a game from 2014... it felt more like something from 2003. It's strange when the gameplay graphics are good, and then you enter a cutscene and suddenly the quality drops. Like, it's a prebaked cutscene, why didn't you render it in better quality? Well whatever, there are few cutscenes so it's not an issue, but it does take you out a bit when suddenly the quality drops.
I wish the game had a way to tell what objects are interactable, like in the first game. Reminder: when your mouse was near an interactable object, you would see a pulsating circle on the object. Here you have to hover directly over the object to know that it's interactable
The finale: it was alright, nothing will beat the ending of Broken Sword 3, in my opinion.
And that concludes my review of this game. It is a massive improvement over the last game. Feels way more in line with the original games. This is also the first time where I feel the adventure has a realistic start? As in, I understand why George starts his adventure.
I'm glad they went back to broken sword 1&2's art style and play style. 3&4 just didn't fit into the series and moved away from what made the games great.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Worthy Return to a Classic Adventure! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
As a longtime fan of the Broken Sword series, I was thrilled to dive into Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent’s Curse, and it did not disappoint! Revolution Software has truly recaptured the charm, mystery, and wit that made the original games so special.
What I Loved:
✅ Classic Point-and-Click Gameplay – Intuitive controls and a great mix of logical puzzles keep the adventure engaging.
✅ Beautiful Hand-Drawn Art – The vibrant, detailed environments feel like a living comic book.
✅ Intriguing Storyline – A gripping mystery full of historical conspiracies, humor, and thrilling twists.
✅ Fantastic Voice Acting – George and Nico are back with their iconic banter, and the supporting cast is just as entertaining.
✅ Great Balance of Nostalgia & Modern Design – It feels like a true Broken Sword experience while being accessible to newcomers.
If you’re a fan of classic adventure games or love a well-told mystery, Broken Sword 5 is a must-play. It’s a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling that brings the series back to its roots. Highly recommended!
💎 Final Rating: 9/10 🏆
please support cloud saves,
i love the broken sword games
Underrated game. Just as good as the first two!
A+++
I haven't given up this game yet but I think I am close to it. So far the things I have to do to progress in the game were so silly and meaningless that I am starting to get tired of it. You need to do certain things pretty much without much sense just to be able to get a coffee from the barman, but afterwards it gets even worse when you are expected to interact with a chewing gum and a cockroach to be able to progress. Elements that have nothing to do with the story and the plot. You need to solve a situation with those in order to progress with the game. Silly. No idea how many of these there are in the game but so far I have had the feeling I am wasting my time. The only part I found enjoyable and that required some kind of detective skill was viewing the recorded video on the surveyance monitor.
A wonderful addition to the Broken Sword franchise, with wonderful artwork, a good story, a deep dive into gnosticism and the need for unity against evil in spite of differing belief systems. That said, pixel hunting was the main issue I had with the game. Also, what needs to be done isnt always adequately highlighted.
Still, it is a good game. 7.5/10
Great game!!!
This game is terrific. Story is excellent. I love the little hint option, I'll try to solve the puzzles, but I'm just as happy getting the story moving and not wasting time on some of the more cryptic puzzles.
A+ game, great voice acting, I started with English but switched to French with subtitles.
If you like Point and Click games, don't sleep on this one.
great game
I haven't gotten around to play 3 and 4 yet, so I can't comment in terms of story link.
But I had a lot of fun playing the serpent's curse, although the need for timing in some cases was a bit off-putting regarding the beginning of the series. The puzzles, which is 95% of the reason why I play point-and-click games, are still challenging and interesting.
Classic — haven't played it yet
At last good old Broken Sword!
I am a total lover of the old broken swort 1 and 2... so, I can't recommend this game to other fans or point and click adventure lovers. It's a little sad, because the game is so well designed. I really like the style and those little gimmics everywhere, which remind you of the first two games. However, those two very successfull games are especially successful due to the unforgetable funny sarcastic and intelligent dialogues, the unbelievable things you can try with the items you collect - and which either even worked or which get commented by funny George Stobbart. This game totally misses out on intelligence... the puzzles are very easy and the - still easy - more complicated puzzles are even explained to you. The dialogues are so boring and predictable, that I can't stay awake for several hours playing.
And another big weak point: You can't die. That's one of the most unique points from the older games. Do you remember those moments in the first games where you could just walk into a meeting of you're worst armed enemies and ruined everything by saying "Hey how are you doing! I am George Stobbart and you are done and under arrest!" :D Got killed and thrown into the river. Or when you could just open a gate that was between you and an empty dog and you knew it was silly but he did it anyway. So you got killed by the dog and needed to restart from your saving point :D
This one is more like the directors cut. You will hear allways the same sentences when you want to use items on things that don't work and it's just so easy to play, that it will be over in a very short time. I am begging to get those moments back like when you could try a poisoned arrow on a cat and George replied "Even if it's very tempting to put the cat on drugs... I think those two old ladys would kill me if I did" :D
Okay I can shorten it to: This game is a pretty but boring point and click adventure more like the broken sword directors cut, which got very bad reviews of all fans of the old games for good reasons. And also for good reasons, steam decided to launche the original version just after they realized how boring fans found it. It just lacks on humor, risk and intelligence.
For people, who don't know the old games: It's probably a nice game to you. However... :) Do play the original versions on Steam. They are available! And SO funny :)))
Game breaking bugs... sad.
Very solid adventure in the style of the classic 90s / 2000s point+click adventures.
Graphics are very cute, dialogues are intelligent and funny.
Whoever loved the first parts of Broken Sword, you won't be disappointed.
A great entry in the series, the graphics and mechanics are very reminiscent of the first two games and that is a good thing.
The plot is as always pretty mild in the first acts and absolute insanity in the last act.
I love the developer videos you unlock by playing, they are a very nice addition.
The puzzles are surpringly great for the most part.
If you like BS this is a solid entry and very recommended.
This game is awesome, 10/10, it feels like an improvement on the first two really great games in the series, it captures the atmosphere and vibe that made me fall in love with the series that had been partially lost in the 3rd (and I haven't played the 4th). My only gripe with this game is the fact that George and Nico are still not in an official relationship lol
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse
Broken Sword 5 is a fantastic return to the roots of the classic point-and-click adventure genre. The story is engaging, blending mystery, humor, and history with well-crafted puzzles.
- The hand-drawn art style is beautiful, adding a unique charm to the game.
- Voice acting is excellent, giving the characters real depth and personality.
If you're a fan of the series or just love narrative-driven adventures, this is a must-play. The pacing may slow at times, but the payoff is worth it.
Highly recommended for fans of the genre!
Very enjoyable. A return to the fun point and click mechanics, look and feel of Broken Sword 1&2. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
An excellent point and click adventure for fans of that genre. Beautiful artwork, amusing puzzles.
Broken Sword 5 absolutely captures the original style and sentiment of the first two games in the series. It’s fantastic to step back into the shoes of George Stobbart and embark on yet another epic adventure.
The environments are stunning, and while I feel that cel-shaded 3D characters immediately look outdated, I understand the cost-efficient style choice for a modern game. Perhaps one day, classic cinematic 2D animation will return to the franchise—one can only hope.
Most of the puzzles make sense and feel fair. However, there were a few very challenging ones that I couldn't solve without resorting to the hint guide. I mostly regretted this choice, blaming myself for not taking the time to work through them on my own. Unfortunately, these puzzles, especially near the end, just felt too difficult and tedious.
Overall, the game is a fantastic addition to the franchise, and I hope there’s more to come!

I enjoy point and click games, The broken sword series is one of the best. Excellent story telling, great puzzles. the graphics are very good, sound and voices are spot on. A must for point and click fans.
After playing almost 4 hours, this is my opinion:
1) The game is by far, more boring than the rest of the series. Allot of the dialog interactions are single one liners and one word answers. Who talks in this manner? When you have a conversation, it's an actual conversation and NOT a game of "20 questions".
2) The "skip" dialog function is not as intuitive or responsive as one would think for this type of game. Very slow in all instances. You're probably going to want to watch a movie or YT while the dialog plays out, because when you get back to the game, the dialog that you missed is irrelevant.
3) There are allot of instances of interaction which have nothing to do with the story/narrative and right away, you'll notice that this frivolous time-wasting is nothing more than to "stretch out" the game play.
4) The ability to "view" the entire scene WITHOUT having to move the character around, has been removed. Again, this leads to a less efficient game and time wasting. You're walking the character around for no reason.
5) A vast majority of the characters dialog options in the game, are not efficient or intuitive based on your inventory. (Meaning: The same 5-8 items in your inventory are all dialog options for 2-5 different characters within a single scene - This means that you potentially go through 40 different dialog's to find the correct discussion to move the story forward and this is in MOST scenes - ouch)
I'm not going to recommend this game for these reasons. It doesn't rate more than 4/10
____________________________________________
Update (after playing +15 hours):
This game is now being rated a 1/10...........the dialog sections are now anywhere from 5-10 minutes in duration, per person and sometimes twice per person, in the same scene and the best part?.......NO WAY to either skip or move the dialog in a quicker pace. It's like all the dialog is being read from an biology encyclopedia by a 10 year old who is still learning how to read.........incredibly slow, painful, boring and monotonous. The inventory is now nothing more than a convoluted mess with no discernible structure and the music is increasingly repetitive and annoying. Character and environment clipping is now constant throughout different scenes.
Clearly, once the half way mark is reached, the quality of the game, story, etc drops vertically into an abyss.
Sorry, but even as a FREE game, I wouldn't subject anybody to this laborious drivel.
"The Longest Exposition Journey" is a game full of... very... long... expositions.
I mean, I get it. Voice acting is cool, storytelling is important, but FFS, the game made my head swing like a 5 days old toddler with the jibber-jabber of the characters!
This game is like spending quality time with your wife.
You enjoy it, but you feel like someone is eating your brain with talking.
Returned to gaming after a decade and the first thing I searched was to see if anything new from the Broken Sword series. I enjoyed revisiting good memories in a fresh and mesmerizing story.
