The Room PC is a fully-enhanced HD release of Apple's 2012 iPad Game Of The Year, including the 'EPILOGUE' DLC that adds 20% more content and play time to the original release. This PC version of the game has been many months in the making and has involved recreating almost every asset in the game from the ground up.
Fireproof Games are a small independent team working in Guildford in the UK. We self-published our first game The Room in September 2012 and were stunned with both the critical success and our new-found fan-base, not to mention multiple international awards. The Room has changed our lives and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it.

i loved it until i had to be fast to get to click on another part to get an item. I absolutely hate that. but anyone else that likes that stuff then this game is good for. because of that one part i had to quit the game. i am disappointed but hey that is the way it is.
Very nice puzzles most of them i love the feature that you can literally search all over a box like in real life the only thing that was a bit annoying was the Null rune thing that you had to ''create'' all the time cause it was a bit repetitive , other than that would seriously recommend ! 8.5/10
Was looking for Backroom games when I found this.
TL:DR, An unexpectedly fun, well designed and presented puzzle game for a great price.
Two things I want to point out that are pretty important I feel in games like this.
First puzzles are focused, in that all the information you need to solve the puzzle is in front of you. There's no hiding clues behind something behind the camera or off to the side, or in another room. The puzzle and solution are always in front of you, which helped with some trickier moments. Also this is subjective but it felt like the puzzle difficulty was mostly medium to easy, I actually thought some puzzles might be harder, but the solutions turned out to be simpler, which was fine. This is most true of the first tutorial puzzle which actually had me stumped because I kept looking for a more complex solution or more clues when the solution was quiet simple.
The second is that once you've completed a puzzle it will 'lock' or put itself away, so you always know what you still have to work on and what is solved, which helped because, there can be several open puzzles and clues happening at the same time. Which helped because I had halted progress until I realised a component of a puzzle was still interact-able and hadn't been solved yet. Another aside I liked and is kind of related, when you discover something that solves another component or opens something, the camera will focus on what has changed, so you know where and when progress is happening.
One of the top puzzle games of all time.
Sure its not free moving like portal/manifold garden/Quern/obduction/Talos Principle....so on
Its a click around like the Myst games, besides URU. (But better graphics obviously)
None the less it is perfect because of its simplicity. Take a few hours to solve beautiful puzzle boxes, that's all the game is and I love it. Sure its got some sort of story to follow, but you won't really care about it and you don't have to. Its simple, enjoyable, doesn't try to be anything else and what it does give you is well done. 10/10 for not trying to be extra and making what you got work. Also the sound effect (click click clonk bang rattle) very satisfying.
Its well worth the very reasonable price and even when you finish playing them all just let it sit for a few years then one day you will see it in your library, remember how much you enjoyed it and think, "well shit I should play it again now that I have forgotten enough of it."
beautifully put together, and nicely challenging without being frustratingly so. nothing is particularly logical, but it's quite intuitive so it doesn't matter that it's not logical :) Nice spooky sound effects contribute to the atmosphere.
It's actually one of the best puzzle games I have played, and in the other parts I finished it just keeps getting better. Very creative and captivating story!
It was good and unique mechanism based puzzles to begin with but I found it a bit repetitive towards the end and don't really have a desire to play any of the others. Might come back to the series in a year or so, we'll see....
A game with cleverly designed puzzles. It's really fun to play for about 4-5 hours until you complete it, which is the average time (though everyone has their own pace).
🧩 Brilliant puzzle game that’s basically digital magic! Creepy, clever, and totally addictive. Solving its intricate mechanical puzzles feels like unlocking secrets in a haunting, beautiful box. Short but unforgettable experience that’ll keep your brain buzzing. Absolutely recommended! 🕹️
This is a decent little puzzle game, nothing amazing, but it is largely very well constructed. The only real issue I have is that you can get some puzzle components WELL before you need them in a couple chapters. Aside from that, I am a little annoyed that this is not a complete story. It's a fairly reasonable price, but you don't get the full story without the other three games, which I currently do not have.
As the first game of the series, it really is a wonderful game.
It is visually beautiful with intricate details and a cleverness that makes you feel smart when you manage to complete the puzzles. The game's story-line has enough mystery that it lure you in, especially if you're the type of person who loves a good mystery. Although it doesn't delve too deep into the background story, it sets it up perfectly for the second game of the series.
The puzzles were not too simple, and not too complex, but rather a perfect average that makes it ideal for a new player to these kind of games.
I really enjoyed this game and felt that if anything, it was too short because I never wanted it to end. Also, the next games of the series get better and better; it really is a beautifully designed game, and I truly love them all.
A great puzzle game, with awesome details & even a story.
Quite short but a great first start, atmospheric and intriguing without overexplanation or irritating puzzles. Some might trip you up, but keep at it and you'll get em all! Cannot wait to play through the rest of the series!
The Room series are incredible games, if you, like me, enjoy point and click and puzzles, this is your way to go. I love the lore and atmosphere, the puzzles are great and the graphics are beautiful! I highly recommend the entire series. I'm looking to buy a VR exclusively to play The Room: A Dark Matter 😂
Great Puzzle Game Series! Definitely recommend it for any puzzle box fan. I have all 4 games and completed them all. This first one I had did have to have it set to Run As Administrator to make it work though(the other 3 worked fine right off the bat though). So take note if yours doesn't start up you may have to do the same.
Luv the immersive atmosphere, it’s so mysterious and captivating. The difficulty is just right, challenging enough to keep me hooked without being frustrating. Highly recommend ;)
A great little puzzle game, and a wonderful intro to a classic and iconic series that many have since tried to reach but can only aspire to be.
I love the graphics of this game. You feel immersed in the surroundings. The puzzles are of increasing difficulty as you progress so you can get a feel of how the game is. There are three other Room games that are equally as fun. I enjoy how they intertwine and feed from one another. I highly recommend this game to puzzle lovers be you a novice or a veteran.
The Room is an atmospheric puzzle game that masterfully combines intricate mechanics with stunning visuals. The tactile nature of solving its beautifully designed puzzles feels immersive and satisfying, with every click and twist bringing you closer to unraveling its mysterious narrative. The haunting music and subtle sound design enhance the eerie, suspenseful atmosphere, making each discovery even more thrilling. Though relatively short, the game's clever puzzles and elegant design make it an unforgettable experience. Perfect for fans of escape room-style challenges!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sweet little puzzle game with just the right amount of difficulty. Nice atmospehere and graphics with a little bit of a mysterious story sprinkled on top.
Maybe try playing without hints first (on by default) because they sometimes reveal too much and basically tell you what to do. I enjoyed the game nonetheless but I wish I knew about the option to turn the hint feature off.
If you're a fan of atmospheric puzzle games that draw you in from the very first moment, The Room is a must-play. As someone who loves to immerse themselves in captivating environments, I can confidently say this game does an exceptional job of drawing you into its mysterious world.
The story begins with an enigmatic box, and you quickly find yourself unraveling its secrets, only to discover that it’s part of a larger puzzle. As you progress through each level, the narrative slowly unfolds, revealing deeper layers of mystery and intrigue. The sense of discovery never stops—every puzzle you solve leads to another, and each new piece of the story makes you more invested in finding out what’s next. It’s a story that feels more like a journey of exploration and curiosity, drawing you deeper into its web with each passing chapter. The more you solve, the more questions arise, and it keeps you glued to the screen, eager to see what lies beyond the next puzzle.
One of the most striking aspects of The Room is its unique and original concept. Instead of traditional puzzle mechanics, the game revolves around tactile, intricate objects that you interact with in a highly detailed environment. The puzzles aren’t just about solving problems—they’re about physically manipulating the objects around you, engaging with the world in a way that feels fresh and innovative. It’s a concept that stands out in a sea of more conventional puzzle games, and its originality is one of the reasons the game is so compelling.
The atmosphere is simply well crafted. You're plunged into a world filled with intricate details and a sense of eerie wonder. The dim lighting and subtle design choices keep you on edge, and it feels like there’s always something hidden just around the corner. The environment itself is almost like another character – one that you're constantly trying to decipher.
The sound design in The Room is equally fits. The music and ambient sounds seamlessly match the mysterious tone of the game, enhancing the overall experience without overwhelming it. The sound effects, especially when interacting with objects or solving puzzles, feel satisfyingly precise and add to the immersion.
When it comes to the puzzles, they strike the perfect balance. I found them neither too easy nor frustratingly difficult. The game provides just enough challenge to make you feel accomplished once you solve something, but never leaves you banging your head against a wall for too long. It’s a rewarding experience that keeps you coming back for more.
The hint system is another highlight. It’s not overly hand-holding, which I really appreciate. Instead of just giving you the solution, the hints nudge you in the right direction, helping you stay engaged without spoiling the fun. This kept me invested in figuring things out for myself while still offering enough guidance to ensure I wasn’t ever completely lost.
Overall, The Room is a game that I can wholeheartedly recommend. Its perfect combination of atmosphere, puzzle design, and sound creates a captivating experience that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Whether you’re a puzzle enthusiast or just looking for something intriguing, this game will not disappoint. Each new level brings even more immersion, and it’s hard to stop playing once you’ve started. The deeper you go, the more you’ll find yourself invested in both the puzzles and the unfolding mystery.
The Room is a puzzle game where we find ourselves trying to solve increasingly intricate puzzles by unlocking boxes, finding hidden compartments, and activating devices. The environment is visually stunning, detailed, and immersive. The narrative is mysterious, with only bits and pieces being uncovered at a time. The sounds are crisp and music, while limited, creates ambient tension. This game is short but offers a thought-provoking and atmospheric puzzle experience.
If you like puzzles and are into escape room type of games, this is a game for you. No one to rush you and no one you can argue with. It does make you feel "dumb" at one point in the game, but it is really run.
Very fun puzzle game highly recommend it. Relaxing and casual game to play.
Decent series of puzzle games, all consistent in theme and quality. Not particularly tricky - especially if you use the hints - but they're very pretty.
Good puzzle game, that doesnt outstay its welcome :)
(Turn the hints off to have nice head-scratchers :D )
+ the steampunk aesthetic is amazing.
I loved how everything kept opening, folding and moving to transform the environment :D
If ya like puzzles - play this
First played The Room 1 back in 2015 on my phone. It was such a gem, then they released the successive games in the room series. I have been playing this since I was young and grew with this game. For puzzle and lovevraftian aesthetic lovers, this series was made specially for you. I strongly recommend you play all the games in the series. This game never gets old and I can play over and over again still with the same awe and enjoyment. I cannot highlight enough how much I love The Room series.
The game itself has a well thought of design and the lovevraftian touch for the lore made it unique from any other puzzle and mechanisms games. The graphics and music are very immersive too. The eyepiece is a very innovative addition to this game that again, is unique to the series and presents as a doorway from your casual puzzles and mechanisms games to the mysticism that this game presents.
The Room 1: 10/10
Great puzzle game. not too hard but hard enough to make it enjoyable. Its not one of those games you have to write things down but it does make you think though out. i will be playing the other 3 rooms right away!
It was a bit short but the puzzles are quite enjoyable! Pure puzzle solving experience!
When the game's less than 1 USD when on sale, it's hard to complain too much. The Room is a fine, but unremarkable afternoon of puzzles and clicking around.
For the low price of $1.05AUD, I can't say its not worth it for how short it is.
From the Steam Deck, it used an awkward control scheme. Awkward because this game was clearly designed with a mouse in mind, yet the layout selected used ZL, ZR, and the touchpad, but not the touchpad's own button. But passable because it didn't feel bad.
The game was also not as responsive as I would have liked to certain button presses. This game's main gimmick is the lens changing how you see things or reveals hidden things. Sometimes I would click it and it wouldn't register. Other times I would click to take it off and it responded by taking it off and immediately putting it back on. So buyer beware that this is not optimal for Steam Deck just because its verified.
I didn't like how one puzzle as well is clearly visible but you can't touch it until you complete the chapter before it. Like why show it at all if you cannot interact with it? Nor did I like how there were instances of literally not being able to see something because of the shadows cast on the item you're examining. It made for good atmosphere but that was frustrating to find out I couldn't find something because I literally could not see it due to the really well designed shadows.
Those are some minor critiques, but worth pointing out because game design is important for enjoyment, and if you get easily frustrated or are just not in a good enough mood, these kinds of things really dampen your experience of the game. Don't buy it if you're aware you're one of these people.
But I had a lot of fun with it. Its a short, to the point, puzzle game. I'd recommend it if you like puzzle games and escape room style games.
I didn't know I liked puzzle games, until The Room
Beautiful visual, creative puzzles, interesting story. As a latecomer to The Room, I don't think I can say anything that has not been said before about this series, but I will say that I'm very glad to have found it, and this series make me feel smart 🤣

General feelings while playing:
The Room 1: Oh very nice puzzle game!
The Room 2: It's getting a bit harder, but very interesting
The Room 3: WE'RE HAVING MULTIPLE ENDINGS?!
The Room 4: (tbd)
This game was fun and unique and just the right amount of difficult.
It made me feel smart (I am not), and was a short but satisfying game to 100%.
I recommend The Room if you like puzzles or even just want a stress free game to pass a couple of hours. The only con I could really think of is I don’t think this game offers much replayability (not the devs fault, just the nature of this kind of game).
Looking forward to playing the rest of this series !!
I found The Room a bit tedious and too much of a similar thing, however that is the nature of the game and assuming you realize that the game all the way through introduces nothing really new and you enjoy figuring out the puzzles and what to do at the beginning of the game then I expect you will enjoy the remainder of the game and he figuring out of the required actions to take. Overall it was fun with some frustration which was to be expected and is not a knock against the game . I enjoyed The Room and think it a good game to test and tease one's ability and persistence in determining what actions to take.
This is a fun, short game that will appeal to puzzle lovers. The puzzles are just difficult enough to be challenging without being overly frustrating (although there are a couple I had to look up because there was no way to logic through them}. I also appreciated the complete lack of a superimposed story, which is so often just a fluffy time-waster in puzzle-driven games. No plot, just puzzles. I will be playing the next games in this series.
If you actually enjoy thinking and coming up with a solution, this game is not for you.
I've finished Lucas Pope's Return of the Obra Dinn twice, and have been craving for a good puzzle game. I've heard tons of great things about The Room and it was on a significant sale. Overwhelming positive reviews. Clearly they did something right!
This isn't a puzzle game. This is an artistic showcase. This is a very beautiful artistic showcase. I may find a way to chock up some more cash directly to the Artists who made these models and animations and made everything so god damn gorgeous. Art is 10/10.
Story is 5/10 - there's a decent overused "Alchemy" story being used here, it's got some nice subtle lore drops during the puzzle, nothing intrusive while still having enough of a hook to keep me curious; so it earns itself a 5 or higher. But it's not immersive, it's not original, and it has no purpose. The story could've been about some "toy maker" just asking you to test his puzzle boxes and it'd have been the same game. None of the puzzles relate to Alchemy at all.
And finally, the puzzles. 2/10 - my intellect was never challenged or provoked. This wasn't a game about figuring something out. This wasn't a game about deducing information or calculating a path. This game considers "discovering an object" to be a puzzle, not figuring out a solution. A good puzzle game doesn't force you to click on some arbitrary, non-descriptive symmetrical element of the box to unlock something. Obra Dinn tells you all of the possible names and causes of death; hell it tells you exactly the last memory you saw someone. You have to figure out what happened, but all of the discovery is done for you, not the deduction. Rise of the Golden Idol is similar. It literally tells you what to click on and gives you 35+ words to use, but you have to form the sentences to deduce what is happening in the scene. The discovery is done for you, not the deduction.
The Room instead decides to call "Find The Object" and "Find The Spot For Object" as a puzzle. No brain power used. Just randomly clicking on parts of the box incase it just spits out a key (or whatever) for absolutely no reason. Thank god I didn't pay 5$ for this game and I pray that all funds for this game go to the artists only.
Quick game to kill time and make you think. Spent a solid 2.5hrs one night going through the whole game and now on The Room Three. Love the series and would highly recommend
Very creative, fun, easy-to-medium difficult puzzles. Beautiful game. Nice sound track. Loved it.
Fun and engaging puzzles! Looks great and runs on just about any computer. Played this on Linux without a GPU and it ran perfectly on max settings.
Love THE ROOM games. Own all of them and fun to play solo or group effort. Additionally shelf the game for a year and come back to it and have to relearn how to solve the game again and know that you solved it prior and will again so it can be solved just need to find the information or brute force a part by entering every combination until solved to then later find if you solved it differently there was the clue right there for symbols.
Good game. I appreciated that there was no travel between areas like in hidden object games I've played in the past. Each part of the story is right in front of you and you just need to solve it. It was challenging enough that I enjoyed myself, but did not need hints. It is fun to play with a friend. Two minds are better than one!
Fun little game, there are moments where you are stuck and unsure what to do but often with a good look around you end up unstuck very quickly and it's usually something very obvious. It never felt frustrating like some puzzle games can be.
It's a fun puzzle game that captivates you into using your brain and think for a few hours. It's not that hard but it also doesn't just give puzzles you'll immediately figure out.
I played the first game in The Room over ten years ago. So glad to have found the bundle on Steam (now I can complete the series). The game still looks beautiful after all these years and the puzzles are the most creative I've ever played. You won't be bored playing this game.
I honestly think this is one of the best games of all time. I feel so smart but also it's so chill to use your brain without really stressing the outcome. Plus if you feel overwhelemed you can turn on hints!
A puzzler that took me around four hours of gameplay -- around one hour per chapter, following the tutorial (Chapter 1). The puzzles were engaging and none were difficult to the point of frustration. The developers did a fine job keeping the player moving on, and the hint system (which I needed in the last two chapters) pointed me in the right direction without ever truly divulging solutions.
Interesting dark atmosphere and puzzles. So far Im enjoying it
A neat little puzzle game. Gives off some Escape Room vibes.
The soundtrack is for some reason eerie and I really enjoyed playing this late at night.
A curious game since the beginning, I played it before on android system but I need replay it just for nostalgy. All Room games are highly recommended!! :D
this was a very fun brainteaser haha brainteaser that is what a redditor would say aint it ? yes it is.
