Nothing quite like finally getting the armor piece you wanted to complete your set and then getting clubbed in the face by the same ol' naked maul men.
You'll see people in the comments complaining about toxicity and hackers and yada yada - those have been around since the games inception, nothing new. There's still good people around. Plenty of 1v1 community servers to pick from.
For people considering, you should definitely at least try the game, it can be really cool when you've got a united team (as rare as that may be on those big 64 player matches). You can make the dream knight you've always wanted to be, with cool swords and everything. The combat mechanics are solid, but it has an INCREDIBLY high skill ceiling - don't try too hard, you'll be okay. It's a little grindy, but considering how long it takes to "git gud" as a player, you'll have the items before you have the skill. It has a PvE mode as well that is VERY fun (and convenient for grinding), you should give that a shot if nothing else. There are DLCS, but none are necessary, and this game could never be P2W with the way it works.
Just have fun. I certainly did.

Meanwhile, archery/ranged combat can basically never 1-hit kill someone even if you shoot them in the head.
Also meanwhile, gaytards run around pants-less and helmet-less with a zweihander and hit you through your parry because they're abusing the absurdly longlasting hitbox of their sword and dragging their aimpoint AWAY from you.
Fuck this piece of shit game, "better than chivalry" my ass, just different bullshit.
Also on life support too, don't expect anything of significance to be added.
Very fun first person sword play game, the survival mode is peak. The only problem with the game is it currently is full of try hards and toxic people who will judge the way you play. If you can get past the toxic people the pvp is really fun, making a ballista in the middle of the battle field will never get old.
it's very fun, with engaging swordplay and a variety of weapons and armour to choose from, though, PvP can be very annoying at times, 8/10
Dead servers, and very unfriendly community. My estimate is that you have to at least dump 50 hours in order to get sort of good at the game. Because the servers are dead, there's barely any skill based matchmaking so you're only going to get matched up with cracked neckbeards who have 1,000 plus hours in the game. It's possible to get good obviously, but you're not gonna have any fun during the process.
Game has no room for new players. Community is now toxic and overun with weirdo's. Servers are dogshit and only saving grace is the occasional update.

Demon hoard needs to be rebalanced badly. Maps either start out in a super confined space with the deck stacked against you, with a massivly op boss u basically have to fight with your fists or both.
Best game and community ever. Its a shame the devs did not put out much more content for it.
Pure gold, part of me wishes there was a multiplayer campaign with a story that included the silliness of it all
Simply the best game ever! Huge, friendly, and non-toxic community that makes every match enjoyable. A ton of exciting events that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. The combat system is incredibly satisfying and beginner friendly. Plus, the developers are constantly updating the game, showing real care for the community and its feedback. A must-play for anyone.

Best game in this genre I saw. You would need 20-50 hours to get used to it, but after that you can't stop playing!

dont play for too long or you will start tweaking after getting feinted 13 times by a level 221 and then getting oneshot by their feint stab morph to overhead morph to feint morph to stab morph to horizontal slash double feint right side 45 degree overhead
A few years ago there was discontent over the game struggling to hold onto new players and there was discussion over the possibility of there being hackers/cheaters and the exploits which are not positive features of the game - in one such discussion on the Steam Community page someone was complaining about the hackers/cheaters and they were being disregarded aggressively implying that's a myth. I googled Mordhau hacks and right away saw links popping up, so I posted a link as an example which also makes it seem like the aggressive dismissive responses are defensive because the small community of players that stay are probably themselves using these things or aware of them and for whatever reason they want to hide the fact that it's a problem. So they banned me from posting on Steam Community page saying that I was advertising the cheats they claim don't exist. I stopped playing for a while, and fast forward to now - I give it a try because I had some friends who wanted to play it after a long break and I find out that not only am I banned from interaction the Steam Community/Mordhau forum, but they also apparently banned me from online gameplay in-game. This game can rot and die and I hope the developers have to close their company.
After 1200 hours of medieval madness, I've evolved from accidentally decapitating teammates to purposefully decapitating them with style. The frying pan meta is strong with this one.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Naked maul men running through battlefields. I watched zweihanders glitter in the dark near the Crossroads gate. All those moments of accidentally kicking instead of stabbing, of chamber-feinting only to get bonked by a level 1 with a club.
The game is basically a medieval dance simulator with extra sharp props. Come for the swordplay, stay for the grown men screaming "HAVE AT THEM BOYS" doing the flourish emote.
If you enjoy looking absolutely ridiculous in plate armor while playing lute badly enough to make your teammates votekick you, this is your game.
one of my most favorite games, but the devs dont care anymore, and there are rarely any new content updates. i still play every now and then, but not as much as i used to. the game currently (as of dec 2024) barely has any players, hovering around 500-1000. its not as much of an issue to regulars but it will be an issue for new players, as everyone knows what theyre doing and the game has a steep learning curve. there are no new players coming into the game, it is all veterans at this point. if youre willing to die constantly and rapidly learn the complexities of how melee slashers like this work through a VERY long time, then this game is still worth it. on the other hand, if youre looking for something more casual then opt for chiv 2. chiv 2 is more digestable, but imho mordhau still has a special place in my heart.

I get high ping since it always matches me with russians (i am guessing) the game is quite dead. Buy it if it is insanely cheap.
Didnt play Chiv 2, but at release me and my buddys played for a little while and it was fun. Im not that great tho.
Game is fun for about several matches. Unless you started playing when it released - its not worth it.
Game itself is quite good - optimization, mechanics, customization is well done.
BUT
With a 1K average online the servers and ranked matches are filled with 200+ players who will leave you no chance learn the game and even more so to even learn, as you will just constantly get harrassed with moves that you can't even comprehend yet by people who think that destroying a new player is fun - especially if you try ranked games (you will be set up agains a gold or platinum when you have 3 matches in total).
Unless the game somehow gains a large amount of new players so that the learning curve atleast starts existing - its just not worth trying.
One of thee best games if you play with friends (unless that friend is a try hard and is watching videos for tricks)
This game is FUCKING AWESOME. I've been a medievalist for years, and this game does it right. Even with the tryhards, its still fun to play. The community is small but also insanely funny and great to talk to. Get this if you want to have fun!

I do enjoy this game overall (if you don't count the toxic players), but holy sh*t, even on a reasonably fast internet connection, the ping is insane on almost every server.
the game is full of losers whos only form of fun is sitting in the same game with 3k hours abuseing the mechanics the devs never took time to fix. if you ever buy this game have fun loseing every single fight because they bullied everyone else out of the game.
Buggy to the point of almost being unplayable. Took a while to simply allow me to play the game, then every time you switch tabs it changes to a stretched shitty resolution and is practically unplayable. Mouse isnt where it's suppose to be, so you have to click five miles away from where you want to. There's no way to go back, meaning you cant make a custom loadout or do anything interesting outside of queueing for a game and praying it doesnt screw you over any more.
An absolute nightmare to deal with, and still more expensive than Chivalry? Hell no. Play Chivalry 2 instead.

Complex, rewarding, hilarious and unique game play unlike anything I've seen before. Supported by a small community that is very welcoming to new players. Very enjoyable and definitely grab it if you see it on sale!

Got this on the Epic Game Store when they gave it out for free. Got a ton of fun out of it then.
Bought the game on Steam because screw Epic Games. Really amazing game but can't recommend if you live in SEA because its basically dead in this region.
Good while it lasted though. If you live in America or Europe, pick this up if you like skill based sword fighting games!

Still more than alive and well, though to get a good lobby youll have to be playing between 3pm and 1am. More than enough people playing at that time to get into the game and have fun. If you've never played dont worry youll get the hang of it fairly quickly, though there is a nuiance to how to fight in this game. If you like these medieval fighting type games give it a try!
I hate this game because of the controls. I suck at it. It won't let me try with a controller. Not saying that will make me better at it, or like it more. But it definitely makes me hate it more.
One of those games where you have to skip parts of the tutorial because you just can't do the goddamn move before you get curb-stomped repeatedly by no-lifers.

There is a ZERO chances for any new player to have fun in this game, the 200+ level players filling the few servers really need to get lifes and get out more, and Devs should consider a solution for that issue if they really care, but seems they dont and its just for these veterans players that can kill you a thousand time with you never able to deal any damage to them.
If you value your mental health stay away go play Chivalry II its way better.
The developers simply keep supporting this game! I have gotten countless hours of enjoyment and laughs with my friends out of Horde / Demon Horde. Incredibly fun even as a casual player. Thank you Triternion!

Wanted to try out new horde mode.
Performance is terrible with heavy stutters, connection issues, game froze & crashed 3 minutes into the match.
Connection/ping/lag issues are mentioned in several topics on steam forums so I'm clearly not the only one having them. Saw a generic PR response to those that boils down to "not our fault but we'll maybe fix it".
No idea what devs are doing because 4 years ago game worked better on what you would today call a potato hardware, and today I get all these issues on a fresh setup, while other newer games with better graphics have none.

Only negative is that there is too many furries
you'll suck at this game at first. Keep playing for a couple hundred hours, and you'll still suck, but eventually you'll start to suck less. And when you start getting consistent kills, you won't be able to put it down.
So much fun. Not a story game just PVE but it really great. Had lots of laughs because this game is more of a meme game than serious. The objectives and stuff are the same but Its different every time.
I haven't tried out the new horde mode but I recently came back after they took away the 128 lobbies. BUT since Chivalry doesn't have 128 lobbies either, I decided to come back to Mordhau where it has 64 player lobbies. I have to say, Invasion and Frontline still feel like a massive war and I thoroughly enjoy it! The best thing is that even new players can have a chance! Despite what others may say, there are people who use meta weapons like the maul, and people who are experts at cancelling their attack animations, but you can learn to do that too. It's worth getting back into for those who stepped away from it!
Picked up about 1 or 2 years ago, seemed fun and different. Very cool atmosphere and customizability, high skill ceiling which makes it fun to improve you skill. The game itself is very unique, but the community kinda ruins it.
Very small playerbase, almost exclusively sweats abusing animations and tryhards who have been playing since launch. Also a concering amount of furrys and other degenerates.
Seems like it would be fun to play around release, but by this point you're better off buying any other game.
The spiritual successor to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, this game captured everything that game did right, made it more modern, and put its own spin on it that fit right in. If you want the same raw gameplay that Chivalry: Medieval Warfare gave this is the game to get, if you want a toned down experience look to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare's sequel Chivalry: Medieval Warfare 2.
Fun game to just log into and start playing with randoms. Art work is absolutely beautiful and relevant to the medieval time period. You can really tell time was spent on the details. The animation is great as well. Exited to see their still making updates. Not sure why this game hasn't skyrocketed; match making feels balanced, and sword play feels smooth. Many maps and game type options. No over the top bells and whistles like I found in Chiv II. Best medieval sword PVP out there imo.
Nerfed Beartrap and Spawn Banner. Completely ruined the game for me. Uninstalled.
