Honestly, i'm glad that this game is barely alive.

So, there are quite a few problems with this game that leaded to its downfall and me recommending to NOT buy it and get a... huh, theres no other swordplay game that is any good... hm. Well, i guess Chivalry 2 with the same problems and... for honor with the same problems. Either way.

Devs - This game has the type of discord moderator developers. At the start of the game i could see develepers constantly arguing with anyone about their game and how the players are stupid and don't get on how to play their game. Cheers to you ''Crush''. But i guess it is better to have those type of devs rather then silent ones that are barely confronting with the community.
          Updates - Non existant.
DLC - Don't care enough, they are all cosmetic and there is a lot of good cosmetics either way.
          Servers - Went down.
Crashes? - Constant, on any system.
Gameplay - Existant, with one exception of you not having any fun. It's not about the game being a fighting game and you either good enough to win, or your good enough to not mald. My problem personally is that even if I win - i don't get any felicity. Abusage of mechanics is needed now and yeah. Fights do not look like fights - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1kcs4WxIPk
Community - Do you except a fighting game having a GOOD community? Really?
Play a good fighting game instead, and if you want a swordplay - Hellish Quart is pretty nice but surely not a game like mordhau
I'm glad that i played this game on the rising of it, with a lot of people playing it and no one really knowing on how to play. Darn, even after a year it still had constant updates and a lot of new players... Now though? Yeah, no.

Gets a bad rap from veterans and it has gone through some turmoil... some special admins etc BUT great game overall, amazing actually. Strong and imaginative community. Made many many friends and if you're looking for them you'll find them as well. Solid 9/10.

Prepare yourself for fights that look like fights, until you actually get into a fight. Feast your eyes on the powerpoint sideshows called accels and question if time travel has been developed, or age rapidly as the zwei drag develops a career and family as it floats like a balloon towards your inevitable demise. Have an excuse to visit the therapist because of your paranoia of the seemingly targeted fire bombs at your feet, wiping any hopes and dream you may have foolishly had. See your swings and pokes phase harmlessly through your opponent like butter, because perspective is subjective and you were just on the wrong plane of existence. Watch as your perfectly executed swing manip get ruined by your clueless teammate walking into it, and get punished immediately after for daring to hit your opponent. Proceed to curse your teammate's bloodline and condemn them to whatever pits of hell you see fit. Realize we're all clueless in the grand opera of life. Have a random spurt of locked in syndrome and become a god for 30 seconds, then die by the inevitable emotional random event. Proceed to go on a countless death streak by (insert favourite throwables) because the universe thought it would be funny to put you through some karmic justice. Humble yourself with the knowledge of mortality, realize that you indeed do suck, and reach enlightenment of the skills you develop. Rinse and repeat, or you can always play Slothau and gamble ;)

Best realistic simulation of the fight & the clash between weapons, and it has realistic gore dismemberment.
The pity part is the content, especially the map & singleplayer still not enough; and I wish to see Mordhau's fight mechanics in a more content-rich, open-world game, such as Mount & Blade series or Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
I also wanna see more equipment (weapons, armors, etc) from different cultures, for example: China.

A game that you can always go back to! The customization is amazing, rewarding the player mainly based off time played. Games=GOLD, GOLD=Skins. The game itself can be fun no matter the amount of time put into it.

This game is very rewarding, just the noise of a head being chopped off alone can make you want to keep swinging away.

Have fun, and see what historic weapons you enjoy the most!

Shame that I didn't play this game in its prime, because I would def have fonder memories. As many others have said already, there's a massive skill ceiling in this game and the learning curve is so steep, you might as well call it a learning wall.

Customization in this game though is excellent. I love making tons of different outfits, ranging from Italian men-at-arms to Spanish conquistadors, cuirassers, Norman knights, you name it. It's fun to basically play medieval dress-up and drip your character out before getting your head lopped off by a zweihander moving at 2mph from the first dude you chose to duel.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time playing Mordhau, and I can confidently say it’s one of the most fun and intense medieval combat games I’ve ever played. From the get-go, the game impresses with amazing graphics that bring the brutal, gritty medieval world to life. The landscapes, character designs, and overall atmosphere are top-notch, making each battle feel immersive.

The combat system is where the game truly shines. It's deep, rewarding, and requires a lot of skill. There's a learning curve, especially when it comes to mastering the complex mechanics of swinging, blocking, and timing attacks. However, there are moments where the combat can feel a little off or "funky." Some players have managed to exploit certain mechanics, which can sometimes feel unbalanced. That said, these instances are relatively few and don’t detract too much from the overall experience. With future updates, these issues might even be resolved, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.

One of the standout features of Mordhau is the incredible customization. Whether it’s customizing your character’s armor, weapons, or appearance, the level of detail is amazing. You can tweak almost every aspect of your character to reflect your personal style, from the color of your tunic to the look of your sword and the type of armor you wear. This level of customization adds a personal touch to the game and lets you feel even more connected to your character and your battles. It’s not just about looking cool, either – your choices can impact your playstyle, with different gear offering various advantages in terms of speed, defense, and stamina.

The community in Mordhau is another reason to dive in. The game attracts players who are genuinely interested in the medieval combat experience, and for the most part, the people you meet on the battlefield are friendly, team-oriented, and respectful. Whether you’re playing with friends or meeting new people, there’s a strong sense of camaraderie that makes the game even more enjoyable.

That said, there are a few hiccups when it comes to finding servers. At times, the game’s server browser can feel a bit finicky, and it might take a little longer to find the right match. However, a quick tip: just use the server browser directly, and you’ll be able to find a good game with little hassle.

Mordhau isn't for everyone – it’s definitely a game that appeals more to those who enjoy skill-based combat, large-scale battles, and a bit of a learning curve. But even if you’re unsure, I highly recommend trying it out for at least a few hours to experience the full spectrum of what it has to offer. The Steam return policy is a great way to test the waters and see if it’s the right fit for you.

In conclusion, Mordhau is a brilliant game that offers a deep, rewarding experience. Its graphics, combat mechanics, amazing customization, and active community make it a standout title in the medieval genre. Despite a few minor issues with server searching and combat exploits, it’s definitely worth diving into – you’ll likely find yourself hooked once you get the hang of it!

          Highly recommend!

I am 400 hours in now and i got pretty good at it, doing chambers and morphs, avoiding feints and really getting to know the ins and outs of each map, i still cannot recommend any new player to buy this game.
On the positive side there is the awesome and very funny community, the over the top combat physics, the cool voice lines and emotes and the whole medieval theme that is done very authentic.
Thats all good, the problem (and thats the big deal breaker) is the small player base, because there is no kind of balancing in this game, so every match is filled with lvl 200s (ppl with thousands of hours played and often times also high ranks from 1v1 or 3v3), its basically like racing against a formula 1 world champion, its brutally frustrating.
          Better wait for Mordhau 2.

          3. i try the pvp gamemodes
          4. i spawn
          5. i see a naked miget with a pan screaming at me
          6. i try to run away while he throws rocks at me
          7. i get trampled by a horse

10/10 the best experience i ever had with a medieval game, would 100% reccomend. also the game is very addicting (in a good way imo)

i personally like this a lot better than chiv 2 because there's just so much personality that you get from playing multiplayer with others. what other game is there where a bard is playing doom music on his lute, an annoying fucker with dwarfism pelting everyone with rocks, and knights fist fighting each other while a crazy guy with an axe murders everyone from behind. servers are still active and if you can rub your brain together to make a class to play how you want to it's not too hard to learn and at least win some fights. i say get it if you're on the fence, it's still decent.

got into this game way later than everyone else. Too bad only around 200-300 concurrent players are on steam so you usually will run into the same couple of people esp if you go to the same servers. I do recommend this game but not for any casual players. This game is brutal and most of the community will either ignore you or just farm you for kills. its like you learn how to swim by throwing someone in the ocean. This game makes every fight you have feel unique, not many games can accomplish this great feat. All in all, check this game out before it dies forever cause it probably will one day.

It's a fun game and all, but you had to have joined in its prime when everyone was still relatively new. I've had the game for awhile and I have to take breaks from it because it gets frustrating playing against veteran players who know the game inside and out. It's very hard to learn nowadays.

Absolutely love this game, so surprised to see recent 'Mixed' reviews. I found the game very accessible when I started and like Chivalry and the many Warband games has its own fighting style that you have to master. The way the different weapons work means you are constantly learning to use them effectively. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this game to anyone, the devs have put a lot of work and thought into this game and its great for a quick 20 minute rumble or couple of hours trying to level up and earn some Gold for new kit/weapons (All cosmetic and not pay to play) I personally haven't seen much cheating and while you get the odd troll most can be easily ignored or voted out. All that's left to say is "Cry 'Havoc!' and let slip the dogs of war"

          - Abandonware
This game is abandoned by the developers. Do not expect content
          - Horrible playerbase
Duelyards are pointless, no way to learn the basics due to ever-present FFAs
          - Extremely clunky and abusive animations
This is the direct reason of bad combat system
          - The combat system is just аss, let me clarify below
It comes to a point where the player doing feints is the one winning the combat - always. Chambering the attack is nearly impossible due to the animation abuse - it's not possible to identify the angle of attacks when the enemy character spins like crazy or does whatever animation abuse they mastered. This in turn makes clear that in order to play this game normally you'll have to waste enormous amount of time learning all attack patterns in order to get the score in 1vX scenarios.
          - No matchmaking
You will always be facing higher level players in public lobbies.
The Quick Play button doesn't do anything and searches for a game indefinitely.
          - DLCs
These DLCs items entries mess up the character customization menu, hence the navigation becomes horribly unintuitive. It takes time to actually find the item which is not required by the DLCs. Scammy tactics. Wouldn't it be hard to make a checkbox to make the DLC items to disappear from my menu? I have no intents of buying those.

          Cheers to character customization tho

Mordhau – Medieval Chaos at Its Finest
          Hours Played: 9.5

Mordhau is a brutal and skill-based medieval combat game that rewards precision, timing, and strategy. Whether you're dueling 1v1, charging in massive battles, or just goofing around with a lute, there's plenty of fun to be had. Be warned: the skill gap is real.

          The Good
✅ Deep, Skill-Based Combat – Directional attacks, parries, feints, and drags create intense duels.

✅ Huge Battles & Game Modes – From chaotic frontline skirmishes to small duels, there's variety.

✅ Tons of Customization – Armor, weapons, and even meme-worthy loadouts like naked peasants with frying pans.

✅ Brutal and Satisfying Kills – Limb dismemberment, headshots, and well-placed strikes feel amazing.

✅ Active Modding & Community Servers – Lots of custom maps, modes, and player-driven content.

          The Bad
❌ Steep Learning Curve – New players will struggle against veterans—expect to die a lot.

❌ Toxicity & Teamkilling – Some lobbies can get frustrating due to trolls and intentional griefers.

❌ Lack of Progression – Customization is great, but there’s no real long-term unlock system.

          Final Verdict
With 9.5 hours, I can say Mordhau is an amazing medieval combat game, but it demands patience and practice. If you love deep melee combat, large-scale battles, and skill-based gameplay, it’s absolutely worth a try—just be ready to get destroyed by veterans at first.

Rating: 8/10 – Frustrating at first, but incredibly rewarding once you improve. ⚔️🛡️

Truly awful game. Horrible community, I only comeback for the swordplay because no other game besides chivalry offers it. And i'm sorely reminded why I stopped playing again and again. 90% of the moderators on the duel servers abuse their powers and ruin the game. The skill-gap in this game is like no other. You will lose over and over again and get a little bit better but it really doesn't help. And pretty much everyone playing the game are no live losers who have been playing since launch. So good luck but i don't recommend wasting your time with it.

Would be a fun game but they need to get new moderators. I watched where a player TK'ed someone and the admin instead of smoothing the situation out so both players could have fun, started arguing with the player and escalated the situation till the person was so frustrated they said to just ban them. Extremely hard to get into in the beginning because of the very high skill ceiling and seasoned veterans that will completely destroy you. However if you can manage it past this stage you will be rewarded with one of the most satisfying combat systems you've ever touched, if you fight against opponents that haven't dedicated all waking hours of their live to mastering the latest annoying cheese tactic.

The game shines extremely well when you fight against opponents of similar skill level and teams are somewhat balanced. Unfortunately the casual game modes frequently drop the ball in this regard super hard and you might get completely stomped in some matches.

My advice would be to give duel servers a try. While it might feel intimidating switching from the casual large battles to dedicated one-on-one fights (and you will find people that completely kick your ass) you at least have the ability to choose who you duel or not. Use this to duel people that are better than you, but don't completely frustrate you. Skill will naturally come with time played and with the help of a couple of tutorial Vids on Youtube. You just need to not get so frustrated you wanna curse the game never touch it again. Good luck Knight.

Really terrible game that gets addictive after a while of constant uninstalling and reinstalling. Devs don't care, players are toxic most of the time, people will sit in their rooms all day/night grinding and slaughtering new players and get off to it.

The combat is fun, People say you need hundreds of hours to develop the skills to play well but its untrue, if you stick with your team youll have a good time.

The game is very fun if you're a mellow person. Youre gonna die a lot but most people do in this game, the chaos is part of the fun of it all.

You can play in 1v1 groups, and that does require skills but, the normal game modes arent like that.

Mordhau is by far my favorite multiplayer game of all time, and close behind Halo Reach on Xbox 360, (potentially even beating it by the time you may be reading this) it is the game that I've spent the most hours playing in my life. I love it, and I love the memey culture it's created in it's incredibly dedicated community. That being said, there are so many issues that I don't even know where to begin, so I guess I'll talk about the game that inspired it first.

Way back in the early 2010's a game called Chivalry Medieval Warfare came out. I played it quite a bit on Xbox 360, but it was pretty clear that the skill ceiling was far too high for me to be able to actually enjoy the game, much less get good at it. Because of the way the melee combat system was designed, players discovered ways to break the animations, and make attacks nearly impossible to read, and even more difficult to defend and counter against. This lead to a steep dropoff in players, and a very unwelcoming environment for new players to enter into.

Mordhau was somewhat of a spiritual successor to Chivalry 1, and it has all the same issues with it's gameplay, and the playerbase has suffered as a result. Attacks from skilled players can be impossible for new players to read, seeming downright buggy at times, and it doesn't help that the in-game tutorial only barely scrapes the surface of the depth of combat animations. This has led to most of the playerbase abandoning the game, leaving mostly high level players who have played long enough to understand how to exploit the animation systems. Some of which are really quite friendly and will show new players the ropes, but most of which simply want to stomp on new players and destroy their will to live. A high skill-ceiling in a game is not a flaw on it's own, but when coupled with a playerbase so small in such a niche genre, it makes for a very unwelcoming experience for new players, and the popularity of the game declines exponentially as time goes on. And my God, I can't even imagine what it's like for console players. Good luck.

Before I get into the positives, I feel obligated to mention the lack of communication and support from the dev team.

I understand that the team at Triternion is quite small and does not have sufficient funding to release major content updates on a consistent schedule. I don't think anyone expects that from them, but they still manage to disappoint. I think most of the playerbase is willing to pay for cosmetic DLC for new armor/weapon skins, however there needs to be a balance between cosmetics and actual game content. There have been a handful of maps released since launch, and I personally enjoy all of them quite a bit. But there have been multiple DLC cosmetic sets and updates to Horde mode, which seemingly have taken precedence over base game multiplayer content. I'm not sure how popular Horde mode is in actuality, but from my experiences with the community at large I can say for a certainty that most players would prefer more multiplayer maps, or even variant maps, (such as were added to Horde mode recently) to be available in Frontline and Invasion modes. However, Triternion seems unwilling to give us new content for the game's flagship modes, which only adds to the hopeless feeling that this is a dying game which has been abandoned by it's players as well as it's creators.

Also, if anyone at Triternion is reading this, please for the love of God give us capes and cloaks for character customization.

          Now onto the positives.

Again, not sure where to begin. Combat is so incredibly satisfying at a higher skill level, I genuinely can't compare the feeling of trading back to back chambers with a player truly worthy of feeling the bite of your sword to any other game I've ever played. While yes, it's not welcoming to new players, to veteran players, it's like smoking crack. Whether defeating multiple enemies at once, or just 1 highly skilled opponent, combat feels fun and competitive. Even for those players who break and abuse the animations, you can still tell that they've spent a lot of time mastering their technique and you always feel the need to get better to be able to smash their malformed skulls into the dirt with extreme prejudice.

Weapons all have a distinct feel. Each one deals different damage, and excels at different kinds of attacks, be it slashes, stabs, or blunt damage, and have different ranges which allow you to get up close and personal with your enemies delivering quick slashing attacks, slow powerful head crunching attacks, or stand back and use your teammates as meat shields as you strategically strike and keep your distance. Weapons offer unique playstyles that promote experimentation and practice with each and every single one, and each one is viable in it's own way. There is almost no limit to how effective you can become with each weapon. F*@# archers though, they are dirty dirty cowards and must be relieved of their life and internal organs whether they're on your team or not. Slay them with pride and glory, you are doing the Lord's work.

Customization is by far the best I've seen in any game, ever. There is a fairly in-depth character creator, with several different ways to mold a mercenary's face and body to resemble any of your favorite characters from movies or TV shows, or just make your own unique character however you want. On top of that, there are HUNDREDS of armor options to mix and match, again allowing you to create your own version of your favorite medieval fantasy characters or real world historical figures. It's a great feeling when someone else recognizes who you're supposed to be and calls you out in the text chat. My only complaint with customization is that I want more, specifically capes and cloaks please!

In conclusion, Mordhau is a flawed yet incredibly fun game, and I would easily recommend anyone try it out if you're interested. Just keep in mind that the playerbase has shrunken considerably, leaving mainly sweaty tryhards and trolls behind, and it likely will not grow further due to the dev team's slow content output and lack of communication with plans for future updates. You will die constantly, many times due to no fault of your own, but just because that one filthy Red (or Blue) hit you with an arrow or rock from an angle you couldn't see. It will seem unfair, it will seem unfun, until you crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. And if you stick with it, look up some combat strategy videos on YouTube, and keep practicing, it might just become one of your favorite games of all time, as it has for me.

I'm aware that Triternion is supposedly working on their next game, and I hope it's Mordhau 2 but there is no information to suggest that will be the case. However, even if they never release another bit of content for this game, it is still one of the best experiences I've ever had with a game, and I fully recommend it to anyone with a lot of patience.

Please give us capes and cloaks for customization.

Above-and-beyond entry in the extremely-niche genre of sword-based deathmatch multiplayer games, that now past its prime by a couple years, and unfortunately will not cater to well to new or casual players due to the extremely low playercount on only a scant few servers, and what I imagine is a dripfeed of new content for that loyal, if hyper-fixated, active fanbase.

My playcount speaks for itself. I paid full cost the first week of release and did not regret the time I sunk into it. Matches were fast, intense, gory, and just fucking fun to carve through several of in a night, and the hyper-competitive scene wouldn't deter me from relearning the game, dragging/acceling and wessexing, after months and months since last playing - if only the playercount was regularly above a thousand.

The combat was simply that good. 'Dark and Darker' or its worse-off clone 'Dungeonborne' will be the closest I can get to scratching the same itch for complicated, chaotic, multiplayer swordplay - or 'Kingdom Come: Deliverance' for the same built into a singleplayer experience.

Masterful combat, a heap of interactive elements, and delightfully indulging gore all interweave to create something close to a masterpiece. Btw, the joy of mastering its challenging system as well as memorable moments of violent ballet make these engrossing battles unique.

Full of annoying edgelords spamming the most cancer strats, you will be going against the same exact maul spammer every game and he is going to call you a slur every time he one-taps you. The game is so dead that these are literally the only players left

Perhaps a great game when it came out, but don't recommend it now. The entry level is too high, the ceiling is higher, and most fights end up with being animation spammed out into some kind of death over and over again while not understanding how a person was able to land three hits on you before you can swing up into a simple strike they're almost certainly going to parry anyway. Only explanation or guide to progress in this is "git gud" when there's no explanation for a play to get maybe one kill per hundred deaths because you're doing nothing to these people.

Only reliable way to contribute at all in this game as a new player is just to play the objective like Mirror's Edge: Do everything but battle and then parkour like your life depends on it the moment any enemy sees you because no matter what combination or loadout they're just going to wreck you. Think all because you've got throwables or a bow you're going to fare well? Nope, they'll just block it and then kill you with a Zwei or Maul before you have the chance to start swinging with a dagger.

Edit: After multiple rounds of going into the deficit of maybe one or two kills compared to forty deaths or more, it seems the only valuable strategy to contribute towards team matches is to run whatever the default or lousy crude armor you start with which will then indicate to the enemy team you are indeed a walking one hit kill slab of MEAT for juicy health regeneration for them. The best strategy here of course is again to Mirror's Edge your way around long enough to distract them and then aggressively backcap as five different level 100+ knights get overly hungry for an easy kill like sharks.

Edit 2: Since doing this review I've gotten quite a bit of toxic statements hurled my way from community members (in-game) such as accusations of throwing matches, intentional horrendous play, costing the team the game, running around doing nothing and other generally nasty comments I don't want to repeat here. The one I will comment on specifically is bullying with the excuse "Public shame is the best teacher" which is an absolutely horrible method of new player retention and does not build a positive, reinforcing environment to get into to understand the aforementioned "git gud" stated earlier.

Edit 3: As of writing this, there is currently a PS+ event with double XP and gold as a flood of new console players come in to try the game. The community's response is to hurl insults towards the new/console players such as calling them bots and not real people. Coincidentally, there is (as of this edit) a 215 page Steam Discussion topic of why player retention is so low and why this game peaks at under 1,000 players.

Edit 4: After playing the double XP weekend with the relatively inexperienced PS players, it is at the least more pleasant to fight players who don't know every minute method to throw swings and kicks significantly faster than you to get a better feeling of the fighting mechanics. It does however demonstrate a problem not spotted until now which is that the game has flawed netcode where strikes that should hit don't and strikes that should be parried go through. It's because the tickrate is too low when you're dealing with attack windows of a few frames, plus there's no compensation for latency (aka rollback) so you're absolutely doomed playing with 100ms ping or more. A fighting game needs good netcode for precision and this does not.

Edit 4.5: I feel like after roughly 15-20 hours of gameplay I've "seen" everything, the only important unlocks in the game are weapon slots and a cheap/crude set of armor per weight class (light/medium/heavy) which you’ll get these in that time, and the rest is just padding it out with cosmetics so your peasant starts to appear like a proper knight. Map rotation wise you'll be playing the same 3-4 maps in the same configuration and some are variations of each other so expect to be running the same layouts over and over. Most team gameplay ends up as people running to bonk the enemy in the head for up to a half hour as dedicated support options are rare.

Edit 5: Uninstalled. It's just not fun, and playing this makes me feel worse than before booting it up that playing nothing at all seems preferable. As one final note to finish the review for now: I notice a lot of unhelpful thumbs up reviews such as "People who don't like this are bad at the game" posted recently while the game is sitting at exactly the 70% recent approval mark, the convenient breakpoint between "Mixed" and "Mostly Positive" on the reviews score.

So simply put I love this game, If your somebody who likes challenging game play has a really good community that plays regularly, the community has grown small therefore you will often encounter quite a few familiar passionate faces every day that keep this game alive, I can't recommend for anybody outside Europe since the game is dying everywhere else. But if you are from Europe you will always find people to play with. You will always hear about the learning curve and yes it's going to be frustrating. But there are a lot of people in the community willing to teach you and help you become better. The game isn't always about winning and killing people, the duel servers are generally just a fun place to hang out so if you like GMOD or VRChat with a indeph melee combat system then I recommend giving this game a shot though I'd suggest buying from G2A or your prefered key seller since it's not quite worth the asking price anymore.
