STORY
When the world was created, light and darkness were separated.
Light and darkness created the fire, water and tree spirits.
Five spirits brought up the world and then human beings were born.
The human beings was frail and darkness became more robust.
Strong darkness gave birth to fear and turned into evil.
The evil brought forth more darkness and the world threw into darkness.
It was called the Dark Ages.
One day the descendants of the spirits with a ray of hope appeared.
They beat down the evil and saved the world.
But the evil prophesied that darkness would never disappear as long as there was light in the world.

Picture this, your phone is broken so you spend some extra time playing Steam games. You scroll through your library looking for a game that's a bit more on the easy side since it's getting fairly late at night. After scrolling through your library you come across a game that you haven't played in years. You remember it being easy, but for some reason you never got all of the achievements for it. Deciding to go back to it, you realize why you never finished.
~~~~~~~~
Yes, I know you can no longer purchase this game on Steam however, I still felt the need to review it for some unknown reason.
Spoiler-free review I guess? There really isn't a story to begin with.
Honestly I don't know what possessed me to purchase this game in the first place. It's basically just a typing game with the illusion of needing to type quickly to get far, however you can go too fast and not get a word prompt which will cause your rhythm to falter. Sure, if you aren't able to type fast enough for that to happen then it's not really an issue, however I found myself starting off fine but as I kept going I would hit this issue more and more frequently.
The graphics of the game look fine. The game itself looks like it should belong to a visual novel rather than a typing game. If that were the case, then it might've done better since it would hopefully have a story, or at least something to keep your attention. I found myself zoning out in the small break between stages and then realizing that I am, in fact, still playing a game. Even the graphics stop looking that great after you see the same monster or teammate 100+ times.
I had deleted my game when I stopped playing years ago, so I had to start from level and stage 0. According to Steam, I had played this game for 2.7 hours tonight. In that time I had done: 3 runs (deaths), gotten to level 153, and gotten to stage 375. I only kept playing for so long since my third run took ages for me to finally die. I wanted to try until the very end despite my fingers hurting. I thought that it would help me when I unfortunately return to the game tomorrow to finish the achievements. Yes, the achievements are the only reason why I have gone back to this game. I simply want to complete yet another game, even if I'm in physical pain by it. Am I a masochist? Perhaps. Do I regret returning to this game? Definitely. If I had just chosen a different game then I wouldn't feel the need to finish it, hell I probably wouldn't have even regarded it.
Honestly this game is just bad all around, the only exception being it's art looks fine. If you have this game from a previous purchase don't return to it unless you're like me. It's really not worth it.
it is great for kids to learn how to type.
6/10
An endless typing game featuring Valiant Knights characters. Or at least, I don't think it has an ending as I played to round 500.
You fight monsters by typing words on one of the 3 characters on the screen, and the damage depends on the type of the attack magic versus the monster's affinity, which is convenient shown on the top right corner. For every 4 levels, there will be a boss monster, which will deal more damage to you, but is not necessarily tougher than regular mob monsters. As you defeat monsters, you will gain level at the rate of around 3 round per 1 level (and the rate doesn't slow down even when you level up), which will persist to the next run.
At the beginning, you will die quite a bit, but as you level up, the first few level becomes extremely boring as the monsters can be defeated in one hit, and the fade out between levels is longer than the time you need to finish it. Not to mention that you have to spend an hour trudging through the earlier level to get to the point where monsters are strong enough to be a challenge. Well, at least there is an option to reset your level to 1.
Overall, not quite a game I could recommend to everyone.
Valiant Knights may or may not go off sale at any minute, but it's just a simple, endless typing game that uses a JRPG-like theme.
Your party of five (+1) characters randomly cycles in three members, each offering a word you can type in order to damage and ultimately defeat an enemy, with a timer counting down until the enemy damages you instead. Some words do bonus damage to the enemy, while some do less damage, according to an elemental wheel, but since you can't really choose which party members are offering words at any given time, this doesn't end up mattering as much as just typing as fast as possible.
Typing words successfully builds up a super meter in the lower right. When it's full, your sixth party member offers a special fourth word. You should use these against bosses, which show up once every four stages, and refill your life bar somewhat after defeating each of them.
There's no real goal except completing all the achievements - which requires completing 800 total stages, using your special attack 100 times (which you'll do at around 400 total stages completed), and completing stage 100 once - but the game doesn't really get notably more difficult as you keep going, at least through stage 100, and the one difficulty it offers was relatively below my skill, especially given that there's no penalty for incorrect inputs.
I would say Valiant Knights isn't really worth it to anyone. There's a lot better typing games on PC, both traditional (Typing of the Dead: Overkill, Epistory) and experimental (The Textorcist), and while this one is less expensive, it offers far less content and entertainment value. In addition, not having any form of difficulty modes or difficulty curve makes it quite useless for typing practice, unless you just happen to be at the one skill level where it'd be a constant but not overwhelming challenge.
Lol Typing isnt my thing Well i Cna type fast but not as Fast Sometimes Hard words I need to Look on keyboard ^^ Gonna Skip this one But hey If typing is your thing and your An expert on it I say Go for it Haha Yes I would Recc this Game to Anyone who Has Very Fast Fingers on keyboard and can Use them well.
i just playing this game for few minutes and i can feel my eyes spinning becuse all i can do in this game is only typing. This game is good for people who wants to improve theirs typing speed but i dont recommend it if you want to have good story in this game (because story is nonexistent in this game as far as i play). I have reach 20+ games and im really busy typing for my enemies and cant enjot other things like what kind of monster i fought and what kind of characters i played with. you must consider those things before you buy this game.
Well... i pretty much enjoyed this game because the reason i buy this game is for increasing my typing speed. hope this review help you before buy this game
It is dull, not worth your time and your money. The game offers nothing more than a few words to type as fast as possible. There is nothing else in the game. No story, no equipement, no items, no skills, no real progression (just a dumb xp bar that rises everytime you kill a monster, but it doesn't change anything to the game, it just allows you to play for longer sessions..). THERE IS LITTERALY NOTHING TO DO IN THE GAME BESIDES TYPING SIMPLE WORDS.
The Typing of the Dead is a thousand times better than this. Typeracer, which is free on your browser, is a hundred times better than this. And for 9.99€/$ ? Ho ho ho this is thievery. I paid 3.99 and I feel robbed. Hear my advice, avoid this game, there are plenty other games awaiting for your money.
Urgh, there is just no gameplay at all in this "game". Just endlessly typing words without any purpose.
Makes very little sense. You type words to attack. There are no RPG elemts. The layout is similiar to a turnbased RPG but that is where the similiaries end. I bought this game hoping it would be a fun way to teach my kids to type but there is no guide and the difficulty does not seem to scale. The words just randomly rotate through. The words do very in length and difficulty but it does not seem to scale up as you go higher. Admittedly I only played twice getting to the second boss.
It's basically Sakura Clicker but with typing and (sadly) less tits.
Still some tits tho, which is nice.
Default sound levels are way too loud and there are no volume controlls (just off buttons for sound and music respectively).
It's not a bad game, just horrifically over priced for what you get.
Get it if it goes on sale or if they drop the price. It's worth about £3.00 tops, I wouldn't pay any more than that.
This typing action game from BottleCube, CYBIRD and Dazzle is a short and simple endless mode game featuring a party of 6 adventurers Claudio Reeve, Rudolf Bass, Alicia Miller, Dan Gaff, Nacht Etoile and Mirko Faran, each belonging to a different spirit(fire, tree, water, light, darkness and multi respectively). Each stage involves defeating a monster or boss monster by typing out the words of a selected character and using him/her to do damage and reduce the health of the monster to zero within a certain time limit as monsters will also attack the party and cause the party to lose health. In addition to skill in typing out the words correctly, there is an element of luck and strategy involved where all monsters and boss monsters will belong to a certain spirit and using a character of an appropriate spirit to counter the spirit of the monster will deal more damage and build up a certain amount of special move points to allow Mirko Faran to be used while using a character of an inappropriate spirit that is countered by the spirit of the monster will deal less damage instead. If Mirko Faran is used, he will do a certain fixed amount of damage to the monster, regardless of the monster spirit type. The monsters get progressively more health at higher stages while all adventurers will deal more damage at higher levels as more stages are completed(Party level will increase cumulatively and will be saved and retained upon game over after running out of health and in subsequent playthroughs).
The game has nice BGM(5 altogether), useful emoticons and great artwork in cover, animated glitters and floating feathers in title screen, character sprites, background scenes, achievement icons, trading cards, badges and profile backgrounds. All achievements are easy and can be obtained in less than 10 hours. Among the cons, the lack of plot and compelling storyline after the game introduction, limited gameplay variety(how about a few additional bonus pick-up items for typing in additional optional words correctly, monsters with multiple spirit resistances/vulnerabilities or more than the 4 background scenes used and repeated throughout the game when there are more equally great background scenes in the enlarged trading card artwork for Alicia Miller, Rudolf Bass and Nacht Etoile's card)and the relatively high price of the game(and trading cards at the time of this review) at 20% discount on Steam store earlier this year compared to the expected number of gameplay hours spent to get all achievements might reduce the appeal of this typing game. Recommended when at large discount or good bundle offer for audiences of most ages looking for a typing game to improve typing skills on a variety of common and less common English words in an English dictionary, easy achievements that are more casual and forgiving and do not require much grinding or a typing game with great anime artwork and nice background music.
4/10
I really hate to be having to give this game a thumbs down, as I absolutely love the idea of a game that combines RPG elements with a typing game... But this is just not good.
The good things about this game are that it looks good and the music is nice. That's about it.
Other than that, I'll summarize the game: you start the game, the game gives you 2 pages about a bland story, then the game starts. You have no idea who are the characters you're using or why are they fighting because the story is really THAT vague. After that, you just type words from a selection of 3 words to attack your enemy. You have to defeat the enemy before a 10 seconds counter or your party gets hit and after a certain number of stages, there is a boss fight. After you charge the special bar, you get an extra word that heals the party when activated. You just keep going from fight to fight. There's no story in between fights or anything else - something like resting in a tavern to check on your party, equip items, choose who you want to take on your party next, assign points to skills or attributes... Nothing. It's just one battle after the other.
There is an elemental reference showing up at the corner of the screen, showing which element is strong against a certain element, as monsters and your characters have an element assigned to them - attacking the monster with its element deals little damage and attacking the monster with its weak element deals high damage. The problem with this system is that most of the time, you're not really paying attention to elements, you're just trying to type words as quickly as possible, which is actually more effective if you're a fast typer than just using specific elements.
Speaking of being a fast typer... The game has no difficulty selection. If you're not a fast typer, you're going to be defeated very easily.
The party levels up as monsters are defeated. When you die, you then start over from the beginning, but the party's level remains. I'm not yet entirely sure what this changes in the game, but I'm assuming your party causes more damage and takes less damage, which would then allow you to progress a little further into the game each time you play.
Don't get me wrong - as a typing game, it works decently well. It's when we consider the RPG elements that the game falls short and ends up just being an average typing game. Maybe the game's story progresses further on, but sadly the game is so lackluster that it doesn't encourage me to keep trying.
Holy crap this game is bad. I can sum up the content in one sentence. Load up game press start and type infinitely against enemies with no animations or levels until you die. There is no plot or progression. Only a waste of your money. I can't even humor it to improve my typing because the time between fllors takes longer than it should and you can clear the screen and have to wait for more words to show up even though you are SUPPOSED to be typing as fast as you can. bad bad bad.
This game unfortunately isn't what I hoped it would be, which sucks. I hate this fact because typing games are so rarely done well enough to be notable.
Artstyle/Animation
Pros
- For the most part the artstyle looks good. There is a decent amount of different artworks in the game for enemies.
Cons
- While the artstyle is good, the UI restricts how well you can appreciate it. I'll speak of this more in the next section.
- Animation consists of characters just kind of sliding up toward the enemy and while the animations for the attacks are colorful, the UI (Again) restricts how well the player can appreciate them.
- The same artwork for enemies are used for bosses as well, making them really underwhelming.
- A lot of artworks for enemies are reused with the colors changed for different types.
UI
There is a chart in the top right with the types of attacks and what they're effective against/weak to, a Stage counter in the top left with the name and type of the character, and a health bar above the enemy in red. On the bottom there are three to four different characters with their faces in portraits next to speech bubbles with words the player must type to attack. While typing a word the character's full artwork appears above the speech bubble corresponding to it and the typed letters so far are turned from black to red. There is a health bar for the party in green below the first and second portrait on the bottom with another meter for the 4th character that fills up with a pink color to the right of the health bar.
Cons - You'll notice I didn't put a Pros section.
- The way in which the words and character portraits are placed cause you to focus more on them rather on the enemy and full character artworks. This is more of a nitpick, but the simplicity and how much the cartoonish speech bubbles stick out really annoys me. This is because unlike other typing games you're forced to ignore the world around you as opposed to using those words to gain a better foothold on what's happening and instead focus on just hitting keys really quickly, which is basically what this game is because...
Story - You have two very forgettable slides of information as story in the beginning. Because I decided I was done with the game at Stage 150 I have no idea if there's any other story to be told by the game. However, there is an achievement for reaching Stage 200, so if someone receives this game for less than the current price of $7.99(Original price $9.99) it might be worth checking out.
Music - You have four tracks in the game. There is one for the title screeen, one for the two forgettable slices of story in the beginning, one for the common enemies, and one for the boss enemies. While the boss music is pretty cool since it starts with a slow melodic piano tune and turns into a guitar with an accompanying piano and string section, everything else is pretty forgettable. It's all electronic from what I can tell.
And, of course, the most important decider:
Gameplay
The basic gameplay loop is as follows:
- Enemies show up one after another one at a time on each stage.
- Each enemy and attack has a type, that being of Earth, Water, Fire, Light, or Dark. Fire>Earth>Water>Fire and Light>-
- After using a character's attack the character is switched out for one of the random 5, including itself.
- There is a 6th character who is made available by filling a meter in the bottom right corner. This is done via using the type of attack that is effective against the enemies. This character's attack can be used once and it is effective against all types.
- Your party's power increases over time as you defeat enemies, meaning in later playthroughs you can defeat enemies earlier.
- This is endless. It doesn't end until you die by losing all of your health (The green bar on the bottom) or leave, meaning you have to start over from your current level on stage 1, at which time you can defeat the enemies quicker since your party does more damage in general. I made it to Stage 150 before lettting the enemy attack me to death just to get the next piece of information.
- Enemies are on a time limit. Once that time runs out the enemy attacks you, taking some health off of your health bar. When you defeat bosses (which seem to appear randomly) you regain some of this health.
- As said above bosses seem to appear randomly and have a lot of health. That's about it, really. There are no exclusive artworks for bosses, either, as explained in the artwork section. They have kind of cool music, but, again, that's about it.
TL;DR - Buy Typing of the Dead. It's much better and the extra $12 currently and $10 at regular price are worth it. I'm going to refund this game due to the lackluster UI, the small amount of music tracks available, and the lack of attention to making enemies and story memorable in this game.
