i have been playing this game since it came out but it was on playstation. have been enjoying to play the game again. i will also try the other games but playing them all at once would be a bit much.
If you haven't played Fallout 4 because you think it sucks because somebody told you it sucks, or if it's too different from the other Fallout series, then you are missing out on a very fun game that also offers lots of fun mods to go along with it. There. I said it.
Years later, the game still looks great. The story sometimes gets lost in the open-world aspect, unlike previous Fallout Games, but other than that, definitely still a great addition.
A good continuation to the Fallout series, tons of modding options and a beautiful HD retexture. Would recommend this and a solid play-through of Starfield, Bethesda games are something to fall in love with.
After three days of modding, attempting to make the vanilla game playable, I have come to the determination that this game sucks.
Every problem I encounter requires obnoxiously complicated computer tricks, such as making the game run at 60 fps so it doesn't break, while dynamically upping the fps to 350 during loading so it didn't take 2 minutes. Finally I encounter a problem where distant LODs don't despawn when you come close, making entire areas have a low detail cast of itself floating. Even after almost 10 years there are no legit fixes for this, just people saying to reload the game (which is dumb because it happens everywhere I go).
Maybe its because it was my first Fallout game, but this was my favorite ever.
Absolutely love it.
Plus in-game mod browser. Can't go wrong with that (as long as its free).
this game is terrible after the update i love waiting 5 minutes wait times for interior cells , why do i have to install a mod to fix a game that just got a fucking update
If you've never played get the game have fun. If you saw all the cool mods people used to do and want to do yourself just forget this game.
Its been what a year? And almost everything is still broken. You either have to downgrade the game, then find all the mods you want in their older versions as well and make sure everything fits. Or you dont downgrade and 70-80% of mods are not updated/not compatable.
All for a "Next Gen" update... (you get a whacky grenade launcher i think) I dont even know whats in the update because i cant play.
survival game thats hard but fun the power armor part is my favorite
im running this game with literal 2000$ pc and have to wait 5 minutes every loading screen, all you do is grind too, all loot is scaled so there is no getting overpowered there is just keep wailing on dudes till you win. like it gets hella boring after a while. why is there boxing gloves, knuckles, and power fist and thats it for hand to hand man. level 20 is where you start getting dropped power fists so i hope you enjoy using bladed knuckles for literally 17 hours.
Rating: 9/10
Fallout 4 (2015) is a massive open-world RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios, set in a post-apocalyptic Boston. With its deep world-building, intense combat, and endless exploration, it offers hundreds of hours of gameplay. However, it’s not without flaws—a weaker RPG system, outdated visuals, and Bethesda’s signature bugs hold it back from perfection.
What Makes It Great?
🌍 Incredible Open World
The Commonwealth Wasteland is one of the most detailed and atmospheric settings in the Fallout series. From the ruins of Boston to mysterious underground vaults, there’s always something to discover.
🔫 Improved Gunplay & Combat
Unlike previous Fallout games, Fallout 4 has a solid shooting system, making combat feel more fluid and engaging. The V.A.T.S. system returns, allowing you to slow down time and target enemies with precision.
🏗️ Settlement Building
A brand-new feature, settlement building lets you create your own bases, defenses, and communities. While it’s optional, it adds a unique survival aspect to the game.
📜 Rich Lore & Side Quests
From the Brotherhood of Steel to the mysterious Institute, Fallout 4 is packed with factions, memorable NPCs, and hidden stories that keep you hooked. The side quests are often just as engaging as the main storyline.
🎨 Highly Moddable
The modding community has turned Fallout 4 into an endless playground. With visual upgrades, new weapons, custom quests, and complete overhauls, modding extends the game’s lifespan indefinitely.
What Could Be Better?
❌ Weaker RPG Elements
Fallout 4 streamlined dialogue choices, meaning your decisions often feel limited compared to Fallout: New Vegas. The lack of a true karma system also reduces role-playing depth.
❌ Outdated Graphics & Animations
Even at release, the game’s character animations and facial expressions felt dated. The world is well-designed, but textures and models show Bethesda’s aging engine.
❌ Typical Bethesda Bugs
From broken quests to physics glitches, Fallout 4 has the usual Bethesda charm (and frustration). While patches and mods fix many issues, it’s something to expect.
❌ Repetitive Radiant Quests
Some quests, like Minutemen settlement defenses, quickly become tedious and repetitive, making them feel like chores instead of meaningful missions.
Conclusion
Fallout 4 is an immersive, content-rich RPG that delivers an incredible open-world experience. It’s not as deep as New Vegas, but its exploration, combat, and modding potential make it one of the most engaging post-apocalyptic adventures out there.
Rating: 9/10 – A must-play for open-world and RPG fans, despite its flaws! ⚡💀
Fallout is pretty shallow game with not much content.
It takes the already shallow experience of skyrim but worse.
Most quests are a bunch of boring radiant quests or characters that are uninteresting going to boring dungeons. And choices all are down to charisma check.Gone are the interesting combinations of explosives expert, or expert in science.
Crafting requires to pick up a bunch of junk in places, which doesn't make the game better and certainly hurts, especiailly since you got severely limited carry weight.
No more are there any interesting conversation choices based on your skill.High explosives? explosives check conversation Low intelligence? low intelligence check.Instead:It all boils down to charisma which is something annoying, since skills have both a requirement of stat and are locked off.
Gunplay:well here is the thing:Its actually worse than fallout new vegas as well.Finding guns is way more interesting than crafting them, because that allows you to scale guns you find. Even fallout 3 is superior to fallout 4, because at least guns are based on drops. Did fallout 4 likely improve some of the gunplay? Likely because its newer, but fallout isn't call of duty, fallout is a rpg and shooter mix.
Sim building:Boring, very very boring. Some stuff are locked behind perk system, and you have to farm a stupid amount of trash to make it work. Also the settlers are useless. Not only is there a lack of interesting towns to go to, but also the towns you build you have to babysit them and watch as your sanity drains away as you have to farm trash to be able to even build simple turrets.
Overall score:3/10
I don't recommend this game despite 705 hours of gameplay. A lot of those hours involved problems. About 500 of them were gameplay.
Reasons -
- This company appears to lack integrity; google "Bethesda Class Action regarding Creation Club". These kinds of corporate decisions affect your access to content you paid for.
- Bethesda went and uploaded a "next-gen update" that completely broke many players ability to access their purchased creation club items. This has yet to be fixed.
- This also broke the ability to download mods; at a time when the highly anticipated Fall Out New London mod was released. The timing does not seem to be coincidental.
- It messed with people's save games, in which they had sunk literally hundreds of hours into, after spending time modding the game to fix bugs that were never fixed by the company.
- Can't connect to Bethesda.net servers is a frequent issue when trying to access both creation club and mods within the game.
- For some, Creation Club doesn't even appear on the menu.
- Customer service when trying to get issues resolved is a joke; they send you fixes that players had previously worked out for themselves; but never fixed the core issues, and those fixes players upload are all dependent upon platform, geographical location, and a bit of luck.
- The actual issue behind the ability to connect to Bethesda.net servers has yet to be resolved - after years.
- The game is unstable; you never know if you're gonna crash, and need unofficial server mod patches to fix it.
- Some people can connect to Bethesda.net servers, some can't, and some only occasionally after spamming the button. However Bethesda IT support has no idea how to fix the game, or the server connection issue, and they aren't telling if they do.
- When asking if there was an issue with connecting to the server that handles Fallout 4 from the in-game menu, the reply was, and I quote, "...we are unable to make any speculations in regards to ingame systems".
So how about not making any "speculations", and actually looking at the system required to connect to Bethesda.net servers? Like, doing your job, or connecting me to someone who can?
Anyway they haven't fixed these issues for over a year in my case, and for a lot longer for other people. If you've never played a Fallout game, get Fallout New Vegas instead. It's better on so many different levels.
by far one of the best games to mod the moders do some mad stuff for this game and love fallout in its self so win win for me ;)
The game is fun, but having it lock up during fast travel and especially entering/exiting a building is an outright pain in the ass. About 60% of the time an Alt-tab will fix it , but 40% of the time it comes back with a small screen and you have to exit the game to fix it...no mods or tweaks.
it is pretty much a sandbox with mods and i love it that way plus it has stuff from the older games like the enclave and the x-o2 and hellfire armor its a perfect balance of story and messing around with mods
Fallout 4 is a great game turned mediocre at best because of its developers.
The game has a good story, there are multiple quests that make you question your moral and ethical standpoints. When facing these quests you often find no right answers or ideal outcomes, you can merely try and make the best out of what is presented to you and perhaps ask yourself why you chose one over the other.
Unfortunately the potential of the story has been severely capped due to the limited dialogue options Bethesda presented us.
You are always given 4 ways to respond each time you are told something. In cases where less dialogue was intended, the developers made it so your other options are essentially the same as your given ones, and when you wish there were more things to say, you simply don't get to. This design is bad, feels forced, and hurts the game as a whole. They also provide very little context to your replies which makes it easy for you to misinterpret what's being spoken out loud, this is especially evident in the 'sarcastic dialogue' which regularly takes spot of one of your options.
As for the state of the game, you should be prepared to face a fair share of bugs that won't ever get patched. Bethesda has a bad record of patching their games, so your best bet would be to look into the modding community if you were to insist on those.
Consumers have long been providing the developers with endless feedback but all of it remains ignored. The 'Next Gen' patch is a prime example, the focus behind it did not align with the people's common interest and left many disappointed. Worst of all, it ended up breaking a massive amount of mods, leaving many with losses rather than gains.
That being said, the modding community deserves to be properly mentioned because they contribute significantly to the game. I highly recommend that you seek out mods for yourself as they are likely to add great experiences or simply enhance a lot of things for you, and to use a mod manager because this will make it easy to install and stack them.
The mods that you truly should be made aware of are game sized ones like 'Fallout 4: The Capital Wasteland' and 'Fallout 4: New Vegas'. The ones mentioned are remakes of older Fallout games that I loved, but they are still in development at time of this review so make sure to check if that has changed by the time you read this.
These game sized mods are free and will tremendously increase the value you get out of this game. More of them are out there and while most of these are still in the making, some can be downloaded right now.
To summarize, I enjoy this game but it has plenty of flaws and comes from a bad developer. I still believe most people would have fun playing through the game at least once, especially newcomers to the world of Fallout.
The game is best enjoyed using community made mods. It is very worthwhile to explore them as it lets you experience Fallout 4 at its peak.
A true classic.
Endless hours of gameplay and still something to explore and discover.
I had high hopes for this game, but after seeing how lame and cheap the combat and AI was, I started to become disgusted with what was done with it, so cheap. Even after the game got a makeover for PC. No wonder the company dissolved. Buy if for nostalgic value I guess. Yet, it has an addictive value, it draws you in.
Its pretty fun but I haven't tried to stick to any one story line option, just exploring to see what is interesting.
The game itself is a bop, however, they have yet to fix teh screen blackout issue that is a reoccuring issue throughout the community for almost a year now.
Fallout 4 is a great game in and of itself, and mods exemplify that. The reason why I have 400+ hours in this game is simply because of that fact. Base game is great, and the storyline is even greater, but the experience with mods is a completely different game. You can become and evil overlord killing absolutely everything in your path, or you can become a complete pacifist and solve the fallen worlds problems. You can mod it out completely and make the game harder for yourself, and the people around you. Generally, the successor, Fallout: NV is leaps and strides better in storyline, but the experience is completely different in a good way.
Story: 7.3/10 (Overall lore is excellent, but in game it can lack at times, I don't like the only aspect of real lore comes from terminals.)
Companions and their storylines: 6/10 (New Vegas clears)
Gunplay and health: 8/10 (Smooth, satisfying, and rewarding)
Modding: 10/10 (immaculate design, and the community is the only reason for that)
Factions: 6.5/10 (There's only 2 really good choices for the factions, and one is extremely boring)
Overall: The game will get a solid 7/10 from me, and my friend. Thank you for the time I've wasted my life on, I'd never ask for it back. Here's to more Fallout games releasing in the next 2-5 years, Bethesda needs to lock in, and stop producing sh*t, and focus on what the COMMUNITY wants. Starfield was such a letdown.
Much love, Ian and Jacob.
Fallout 4 masterfully paints a believable picture of a ravaged, post-apocalyptic landscape. While the emptiness inherent in such a setting is palpable, the detail lavished on the ruined city and its scattered settlements is astonishing. Every crumbling building, every overgrown house, whispers a story of the past, creating an immersive and atmospheric world. The random encounters and the nuanced NPC interactions further enhance this sense of immersion, making the wasteland feel genuinely lived-in.
The main story is intriguing and amazing, prompting reflection and questioning about the unfolding events. The branching quests, filled with meaningful choices that ripple through the game's world, are a true highlight. The characters, both quirky and memorable, add a layer of humor and humanity to the grim setting. Their reactions, shaped by their individual personalities, further enhance the immersion, making your actions feel impactful and significant.
The combat system offers a unique level of tactical depth. The ability to target specific body parts and witness the resulting consequences adds a visceral thrill to each encounter. The character build system allows for considerable experimentation and replayability, encouraging players to explore different playstyles. The crafting system, fueled by an almost obsessive need to loot everything (a compulsion I wholeheartedly share!), is both satisfying and strategically important.
Settlement building, while initially overwhelming, proves to be a rewarding and surprisingly addictive pastime. I confess to spending a significant portion of my playtime meticulously crafting and expanding my settlements; the sense of accomplishment upon completion is immensely satisfying. While the science fiction elements might not be groundbreaking, they feel believable and enhance the overall atmosphere. The power armor, though fun, wasn't my preferred playstyle; I preferred a more nimble, fast-paced approach.
Unfortunately, Fallout 4 isn't without its flaws. I encountered several glitches and game-breaking quest bugs, though many have workarounds available online. These technical hiccups detract from the overall experience, but don't entirely overshadow the game's strengths.
In conclusion, Fallout 4 isn't perfect, but its immersive world, compelling narrative, and deep gameplay mechanics make it a truly captivating experience. The sheer replayability, further enhanced by the extensive modding community, ensures that the wasteland holds countless hours of exploration and adventure. If you can overlook a few technical imperfections, Fallout 4 will likely capture your heart – or at least, your considerable amount of time.
i don't have the words to describe how good this game is. I have completed different story lines and dificulty levels and it just keeps giving a great gaming experience.
Amazing open world game with an interesting story
Unplayable without 300 mods
They keep fucking updating this shit and breaking the fucking mods.
It's good, be prepared to have to mod the game. As there are bugs that make it unplayble. It sucks that it has some nasty bugs, because if you use a mod you can't get the achievements. But you may have no choice but to mod it.
you will want to learn the console commands for where quests bug out and don't complete upon doing the final task, or don't get issued to you etc. For the most part its a pretty good game. But if you are not willing to read up on how to use the console or add a mod to fix some issues, then don't bother.
Also FYI Fallout 76 bugs are 100 times worse. had a friend get that recently and it is so broken he can no longer open doors or use his weapons just randomly.
Game is spectacular on a first play through. The sense of exploration and wonder is what made this game so great for the first time. It definitely starts to lose its charm after playing the game again and again. The story isn't as strong as New Vegas but I still like it. The guns are a polarizing element compared to other Fallout games. With mods, this game has the potential to be the one of the best games I've ever played, and is incredibly replayable.
This is, personally, the best fallout only overcome by classic's fallout games.
It's a shame that has no much dialog settings but let's get real, in the classics and then just were one or four options to resolve the problems. There wasn't that many content as well.
The contents and dlc's are good too, can give you more hours to play and enjoy yourself.
All in this game worth the money and bethesda still trying to keep it alive as the last fallout over the last years. So, i think this is a good fallout and the best for me.
The gunplay is wanting. The writing is bad and contrived. The dungeons are repetitive and boring. Get yourself New Vegas and the Viva New Vegas modpack and you will be head and shoulders above this.
Role reversal Fallout 3 with a half baked building system and somehow worse writing.
I miss when Bethesda was good at writing. Something went terribly wrong after Morrowind, I just know it.
Game sucks. It has redeeming qualities, but you're better off playing any other game that is overall better. I only play it because I'm nostalgic for it, just buy a good game and skip this one.
Overall Good Game, with a great world to explore and experience. There are a bunch of unique characters in this game that you will care about, and although the quests arn't the best in the fallout series there still good. Although the new patch broke alot of mods, the Modding community has carried the longevity of this game, and it's thanks to them and the Devs that this game has a ton of replayablity and customization.
Bethesda really tried to push their limits with this game with new weapon augmentation, equippable power armor, settlement building, and unique followers and characters, but fell short with some of the quest in the game. This game overall was a move in right direction by Bethesda, but they left some of the important elements of the Fallout universe behind; the Grim atmosphere, the horror atmosphere, and the unique small world building quest that added a great depth to the world.
For what this game has to show, it's a Solid game compared to the Market and it's better than most. With its unique world, unique characters, settlement building system, and the ability to explore the world at your own pace this game is a Great Game. It a solid 8/10.
pretty good. not worth ditching your anniversary for, no matter how hard you want to romance someone, but pretty good
a really fun game, with an amazing modding scene!! gunplay has been MASSIVELY improved from 3 and new vegas, and the world brings a somber, yet hopeful vibe!!
This game is a buggy filled full of bugs, glitches and crashes shit fest. I cant enter a certain area without it crashing i cant fast travel to a certain town without it crashing. Enemy Ai is impossibly accurate and kills you quickly.
I recommend this game for fallout fans. It is not my first pick in the series but it is non the less a good quality bethesda game. Enjoy gaming my friends!
The game is fun dont get me wrong but its hard to call this a role playing game. and it is hard to get this game to not crash so i kinda forces you to download mods to get it to run
Besides all the horny teenagers modding this specifically for no reason this was my favorite fallout game between vegas, 76, and 3
amazing game. i perfected this game on ps4, xbox1 and steam. alltho i didnt play much of the previous fallout games. after easily putting in over 1000 hours into fallout 4 its definetly one of my favorite of all time. the fallout community is one of the best. highly recommended 10/10
Rating: 8,5/10
Plus:
+ Story
+ Game locations atmosphere
+ Music
+ Dialogues
+ Weapons mechanics
Minus:
- Game is possessing old mechanics and if you start to using mods to avoid it, you'll not gain any steam achievements
- Some bugs
- Loading screens when switching locations
Ad Victoriam!
it has its fair share of quirks and glitches just like any other fallout. but the battle mechanics and trade and building system is very fun to use and overall gameplay is very fun. screw the minutemen tho
This big-budget is a merge of world building (settlements) with action - mostly at your own pace as you choose to embark on missions or explore the world.
Plenty of easter eggs and humor. Dated graphics, limited soundtrack choices, but it's still be updated and modded almost ten years later. A NetFlix movie was made about it. It's a classic.
Next gen update makes the game unplayable withouf mods and tweaks. No fps limiter for a game with an engine that breaks at high framerates. Ultrawide support is just a waste, disgraceful to stretch the UI to fit.
definitely a fun game but its missing so much of what made the others good its hard to ignore
fallout 4 is the best game since Obivion and besides it is what makes great mods just like skyrim it is replayible
Its a fallout game, loot and shoot bad guys. That said, much more effort was put into enemy AI and mechanics so for that reason I think this is a better product than other fallout games. I would say the story and companions are better but I can't stand the dialgue wheel. Feel's like you can't have a real conversation with them.
I mean, it's fallout 4. It being a great game is simply a fact of life. Sure, it's buggy. Sure, the story can sometimes be somewhat lacking. But the settlement building mechanics, the player influence on the story, the combat, and the expansions make it all worth a few (or more than a few) bugs. Getting the expansions, especially Far Harbor and Nuka-World, is practically a requirement, they just add so much new content. Overall, I can say after dumping 500+ hours into this game, it is completely worth every penny I paid.
Multi-billion dollar company doesn't just let glitches slowly destroy the game, but also forces players to download an update that absolutely tarnishes both the game and the company's reputation. Gotta hand it to Todd, that's kinda impressive.
