shitty port of a great game but with like 500 mods its the best vr experience ever
around 30 mods are necessary for this game to feel like VR rather than it be just a video player with motion controls lol. This feels like a major cash grab rather than just making a VR mode in the base Skyrim but its fine-
Do not get without mods! Go look up how to do it.
If you do get it and mod it, 10/10 best game you will ever play in vr- including blade and sorcery, boneworks, etc. This is by far the best, but you HAVE to work to get there sadly.
Dont let my hours played fool you, I have more hours in this game than you can dream lol
couldnt get past character creation, graphics resemble the xbox 360 version, even on sale it isnt worth it, go buy aniversery edition
Fair Warning: Do not buy this if you dont want mods or cant run them. Game is the worst way to play Skyrim without mods.
With Mods, though? Its like walking through Skyrim for the first time. 1000000000000/10 game with mods, 3/10 without
This is much worse than a VR mod for Vanilla Skyrim, which they banned to sell this for the full price, even though I bought the original Skyrim twice. Other games add VR mods for free.
I wouldn't complain at all if only they bothered to put some effort and optimise the game for VR, but this is the same 13 years old buggy mess, and they didn't bother to add any kind of VR interactivity to the game whatsoever. They should've include a premuim nexus mods subscribtion because the vanilla version is literally unplayable without mods. I have terrible FPS drops on the same PC that I used for playing Cyperpunk 2077 in VR.
The controls are just terrible, I don't know who though that it is a good idea to implement it like this.
thank god for mods -- do not even try without them. here are some tips i wish i knew before hitting play:
1.) after much digging on my own i found this guide to be a great base to build from https://youtu.be/wOMpH2IZnMw
2.) the vortex launcher will direct you to skyrim legendary but that is normal.
3.) before adding mods check the version. if it say anywhere that it requires version 16 or higher, you cannot play it on VR.
my ancestors are smiling on me imperial, can you say the same?
It's good, but I'd recommend modding it if you can so you can see yourself and interact with the world (VRIK and HIGGS mods are most important) instead of it just being your hands and strange controls, also if you get it, I'd recommend getting it while it's on sale as $60 might not be worth it for a lot of people
Wonderful game, mods make it a lot more fun though.
(NO ADDONS OR MODS INSTALLED) Very buggy. I played it for the very first time today to a big disappointment. In the intro sequence when you're riding in the cart, the carts would randomly bounce all over the place, making it very disorienting. And later on I fell out of the map and got softlocked without trying. Also the controls are wonky and hard to get used to.
Does exactly what it says. I enjoyed it. It's quite literally Skyrim in VR. I wish this came as a part of the base game (because I imagine it could since base game mods work for it) because I would like switching between VR and flatmode more since personally my eyes get tired after playing in VR quite fast, but as is it's still a great experience, it's ported well and mods make it even better.
a bit of a buggie mess but thats kinda a charm of it like i love beeing a fish amd shwimming in the sky
I already own Skyrim, this should have at the very most been a $5 DLC but better yet a free update. Paying $15 for a game I already own and then having it being a complete trash heap... groan... I was really hoping for Skyrim 2.0.
I naturally decided to try mods next but that turned into a matryoshka nesting doll situation. I tried to download a mod but in order to get the mod I needed a Nexus Mods account but after I made an account I still couldn't download until I got software called "Vortex" but to get Vortex I needed Windows .Net 6.0, but then I still couldn't download the mod because I needed "Skyrim Script Extender" but I couldn't download SSE because I needed 7zip, so once I went through the multi-step process of making an account, installed Nexus, Vortex, .Net, Skyrim Script Extender, 7zip and tried but failed to install SkyUI (I may give it a more concerted effort later) I was able to get a few other mods going and the game plays better but I'm still really disappointed. I feel like Bethesda is just being scummy at this point.
Fix your F-ing game devs!
I can't go back to the regular version of the game. Modding this game will make it perfect. Vanilla is playable sure, but it could absolutely be as perfect as perfect can be modded.
The feeling of true exploration with no HUD makes this game a true breathe of fresh air and makes it feel like I am playing for the first time again.
I needed to install roughly 400 mods to get this piece of shit to work as a VR game at all it took 7 hours, and even then its going to constantly crash just like regular skyrim. Like literally look how much this sucks, like actually go look at the percentage of people who have the steam achievements, LESS THAN HALF OF PEOPLE WHO BUY THIS ARE WILLING TO TOLERATE IT LONG ENOUGH TO GET TO THE FUCKING STANDING STONES, and thats 15 minutes in. Go play the text to speech skyrim in an amazon alexa it will literally be more fun.
Recommended, but only if using mods to fix the VR gameplay and visuals. Mod installation is now low-effort and produces (so far) stable gameplay; search nexusmods for "skyrim vr modlist".
You put more work in getting this unoptomized play of station 5 to run than the devs did, just download skyrim if you wanna frick fantasy women. for VR play blade and sorcery, or go on VR chat
please add quest and PlayStation psvr2 support for there respective platforms and if possible look into intergrading vrik player avatar, HIGGs natively and other quality of life mods for VR I love steam but its time to share skyrim with world! and if possible update this to run like our modded skyrim.
Probably my favourite VR game. Combat feels great, spell casting is satisfying and is overall quite immersive (with mods, that is). Without mods, the game just feels a bit bland, and a bit off-putting. But if you spend enough time downloading many gb of Nexus Mods at 3mb/s, the game feels and plays just amazing. 2k Noble Skyrim Textures with a luminous ENB preset in combination with Mantella and VRIK, is incredibly immersive. For those trying to mod the game and really struggling like I was at first, here is a list of my mods and how to install them.
- For a paint job, install Noble Skyrim Textures 2k, from Nexus mods. You can go to the textures folder of the game by right clicking it and clicking on 'Browse Local Files', then just go to Data>Textures. If there isn't a textures folder, just drag the folder from NST 2k into the Data folder, make the textures folder Textures, with a capital T.
- For the terrain, install Tamriel Textures, I would recommend downloading 4k, though. The same goes for Tamriel Textures as did Noble Skyrim, make sure to overwrite any textures with Tamriel that are needed. Make sure that when dropping in you don't fully delete a folder and replace it with a Tamriel one, that can lead to low-qual textures. With Meshes, just make a meshes folder or place the content from Tamriel into the meshes folder.
- For good lighting (by far most important), I recommend using ENBSeries 0.375 for VR, in combination with CAS and Luminous for ENB. Make sure to import the ENBSeries first, just open its contents, go to Wrapper Version, then just drag and drop into the regular SkyrimVR folder. Do the same with Luminous for ENB. Make sure to do Luminous first. Replace anything if asked. Then drop the CAS contents into the ENBSeries folder.
- Use a mod installer for anything else.
I would NEVER recommend the Vr to any fan of the elder scroll series. I have had nothing but issues trying to even play the game. After a while the only thing that would ever show up is a blue screen and an annoying crash indicator noise. I tried to uninstall, reinstall and fix files in order to try to get the game to play but nothing helped. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME YOU WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
Even with mods this is just... Not a great experience.
It was really cool for a bit to run around and explore some of the world of Skyrim. Messing around with Mantella was cool. But at the end of the day it is a game that was built solely for flat screen controller/M+KB. I would rather play it that way. I don't think VR adds enough meaning to the Skyrim experience to justify the purchase cost.
If you are going to play this. Go download FUS+RO+DAH's wabbajack preset. Its genuinely pretty great! Really well made modding framework/overhaul to make the game actually function properly in VR.
It's trash.
There are better games made into VR than this crap. Just play regular skyrim
Fantastic once modded. Checkout Mad God's Overhaul modlist.
Great game! But only if you download mods. Here's the mods you'll need to play a functional VR game that costed you £50:
SKSEVR
VRIK Player Avatar
HIGGS Enhanced VR Interaction
VR Address Library
To Your Face VR
Skyrim VR Tools
Skyrim VR ESL
Simple Realistic Archery
Pseudo Physical Weapon Collisions and Parry VR
PapyrusUtilVR
No Stagger Mod 1.0
No More Egale Eye Crosshair
Magic Improvements for Skyrim VR
Be Seated (Thats right, you cant even sit down without a mod!)
Notice something? How you have to download at least 14 mods to get the game to function while having to pay £50? Also since its release they have not bought out any fixes and the only update they did bricked a bunch of mods for ages. Yea either buy only on a very large sale or if you have the means "Try before you buy"
Very Good with Wabbajack and MO2. Easy to setup, Great graphics and stability. By itself? Not so much. Without the wonderful works of modders to make everything work right, this game would be pretty much trash.
Highly recommend to get this and use a modlist like FUS through Wabbajack.
The game on its own is alright but with some quality mods this is hands down the most immersive experience available right now.
it definitely is NOT worth it if you're only playing base game it is a lazy low quality low effort port of skyrim with little to no support, only with mods and a decent pc is it worth it, with mods it's definitely the best vr game i've played.
Skyrim itself is fun, but this is not an acceptable VR product from a studio like Bethesda. If Half Life: Alyx is the filet mignon of VR games, Skyrim VR is week old pizza. And like even week old pizza isn't the worst, but it's certainly not acceptable at full price.
The game misses some VR basics I fully expect from a product of this scope and level of development, like hand and weapon collision, a rendered body when you look down, and updated graphics. Luckily mods exist that rectify these issues--SkyUI VR, VRIK Player Avatar, HIGGS Enhanced VR Interaction, VR FPS Stabilizer, and Vampire Lord and Werewolf Body mods to name just those I consider essential--but it's unforgivable that Bethesda didn't do at least a first pass on a number of these.
The other thing is that either by virtue of how buggy the base game can be and/or adding mods to make it function, it crashes somewhat frequently and quests often bug out entirely. I've had to use console commands to progress certain quests. Often just setting the quest stage is all that's needed, but sometimes I've had to do some pretty extreme console commands (like starting the Dark Brotherhood quest line where the first three quests are all bugged and won't progress). The worst part is that these are bugs that have existed since the release of Skyrim Special Edition (if not since the original Skyrim release) and which the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition patch apparently isn't always successful at fixing. In more than 8 years they've done nothing to better support this mess.
Look for a sale and be prepared to do some work modding before you even start playing. Mod Organizer is a godsend for easily installing most of the mods I mentioned. And were it not for mods I never would have opened this game again after stumbling around in opening dungeon for a few minutes.
The one issue I have found is the bow or other hand held items can get outta sync with my hand placement in real life (meta 2...i just save and restart, only happened twice in 26 hours) but other than that Sweet baby Talos! I am beyond impressed! Aiming with the bow is so natural. Dropped 3 wolves lightening quick. A lot of the menu stuff translates over pretty well. An absolute trip to stop at night and just look up and see all the stars and the moon. or fight a friggen dragon like...As fast you you can draw arrows you can shoot to bring it down...I..Just..wow.
I've spent two hours trying to get the most basic fucking mods working and at this point I'm giving up.
Even the regular special edition is broken. Just corrupted my save when I reinstalled everything. Fuck Bethesda.
DOG A$$ SH!T if you dont install FUS mod on wabbajack with the FUS mod the game became the most INCREDIBLE GAME! a little around 400ish mod with almost 130gb BUT! worth it
The sense of scale is very cool in vr. A dragon feels like a formidable opponent, a tower looks tall and a mountain looks like a mountain instead of a hill. Everything feels larger and more amazing. I haven't played without mods but with reasonably little modding (vrik, planck, higgs and a few graphical mods) the game feels quite nice. A fair warning though, when you look at videos of this game from youtube the game looks better than it actually does. There's a lot of flickering and noise in VR and I've been told that nothing can be done about that. Still it's an awesome game. Also another warning: the starting sequence of Skyrim is fucking horrible in vr, I got incredibly seasick in it so maybe close your eyes for that part. The price is steep though, but I got this on sale for 15€.
Many of the negative reviews are about the base game being bad without mods. this is most certainly true, the base game in itself is a bare minimum vr port. But if your are willing to spend a few hours modding it, it might just be the best vr fantasy game you can get atm.
cant even run it after a hour and few days of trying ever fix i could find it still wont run fix your shit Tod
yes.
Thanks to the Mad gods mod it became playbale. Though I had to change my hardware but it was worth it. I started to play it in 2018. And it was unberable to play. But mods and time made the game much better.
You must set the framerate to 90 or lower, otherwise the physics are so jank, You'll be hearing "You're finally awake" again and again.
Getting past the character creation was a chore. As it is buggy and the menu doesn't work.
They keep teleporting your character, when its actions you should be able to do yourself normally.
Jumping is hard to register on the controller.
I tried to get the game to work for over a half hour, but nothing. I gave up before the game tutorial ended.
No, Bethesda lost my respect fully at this point.
Modding support has dropped by the studio. Their bad implementation fixing mod (Unofficial Patch) does not work with the new update meaning half of the mods are gone with it as well.
How ignorant is the management of Bethesda to bring such decisions to consider even. First many mods on Fallout 4 dropped and then this. For years I was playing your games without issues. Not anymore!!
buttcheeks, straight glutes, UNLESS you mod it then its amazing can be easy or a pain but its worth if you can run the modpacks or textures. you only need like 3 mods for a modern vr game that are must haves, the rest is optional but again worth it
the base game is nowhere near being worth $60 but if youre willing to take the time to tinker with mods its a pretty good time
Immensely disappointing. I'm not going to download 100 mods to get it to function as a VR game should be expected to out of the box. This is Bethesda's worst, right next to Fallout 4 VR.
It's trying to be a VR game, but fails on all aspects. Any basic functions you'd expect from any VR game, even the smallest indie title, this does not have. Collisions? Physical Interactivity? Immersion? None of it.
Also, this is definitely not made with Index controllers in mind, this has one of the most bizarre default control schemes I've ever seen. Refunded before I even left Helgen.
If this was an extra mode packaged with the base game I wouldn't be mad. But asking for any amount of money for this is criminal.
An open world to explore completely in VR, with all these fantasy esc. things (IE races, dragons, giants) is honestly incredible. Though, I only say this because of mods. 60$ for an incomplete VR experience is awful, though mods can patch up the imperfections. Obviously, they can also add content. Some content less... ethical? and suspicious? (don't go into that rabbit hole)
Bottom line is: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO MOD IT.
Unmodded 4.3/10 Modded 9.3/10
The base game by its self is ok. BUT to truly experience this game you need mods. I recommend Mad God mod list, I can guarantee one of the best VR experiences!
what do you expect when one of the best games ever gets ported to vr. like 5 mods is all it takes to make you want to put hundreds of hours into the game.
Best game ever made. Better in VR, even without any mods, it's still a must try. If you loved the original version, you'll love VR.
Got a mod that activates shouts when I scream into my mic
im homeless now
needs mods otherwise its pretty bad, but with planck and higgs its really enjoyable
worthless without mods, with mods however... 👍
Anything outside of spell casting & bow usage isn't much fun. (And that's only good with mods).
Game only becomes slightly worth your time after installing bunch of mods.
And all the original problems & bugs are still there. Not a worthwhile VR experience.
basically dosent work, i can play any vr game i have, no problem, except the ones made by bethesda, first it dosent always launch, when it launches it might crash immediately, when i made it work, it didnt detect my motion controls properly so it was like i was playing with a controller
Absolutely sucks booty without mods.
Among best VR games ever created with mods
I experienced 2 major bugs within the first 10 minutes. Firstly, riding down the hill in the cart, the cart was barrel rolling, making me feel very sick. Secondly, the game would not progress past the point right before the first dragon appears. All the characters just stopped and did nothing. I tried reloading my save but it didn't work. Really poor quality port to VR, sadly.
