You become very attached to your vehicle, for various reasons you'll learn for yourself. It almost becomes a second character in the story. Very moving game, with wonderful, dystopian art and a haunting soundtrack. Probably only good for one play through, but I think it was well worth the time.
A fabulous puzzler!
Gorgeous visuals - arty - plus great mechanics. What's not to love?
Equally, most of the Achievements are straightforward to tick-off … although a few a little 'grindy' for me.
Cannot wait to dive into FAR:Changing Tides
Great job Okomotive well done!
Wonderful environmental storytelling and some creative and fun mechanics make for a solid and memorable 4-5 hours. I was shocked, sad, elated and relieved at all the cues, and the music...the music!!! Next - Far:Changing Tides!
Stunning visuals , unique storytelling simply the best !
Its a very interesting take on 2D games, travelling around the greyish empty and abandoned world, with only you and your ship. It really makes you feel like a captain, controlling the speed and feeding with fuel while also being keen on looking out for any dangers like obstacles.
The game is like a walking sim, just driving in this case but there is a lot of locations to discover and many puzzles to do so there is very little empty travel time. However keep in mind the game does not teach you anything than the basics, so be ready to learn by failing. Thats probably one of the biggest faults as you can get very stuck sometimes.
The story is very little. You might find some scraps here and there but mostly it seems its an open book for many different intepretations. Its also a short game, about 3 hours so its probably best to play this in one go.
For me this game is a 6.5/10. Like its unique but i feel like it could of been just that bit better, it was starting to become a little stale near the end. Ill give positive because its a very cool take that i havent seen before, but wish it had a little bit more to offer.
This is a silent "cozy" adventure game where you have to "sail" through the land with your amphibious ship looking "mega van", there are some platforming gameplay in it but as far as the objective go, you simply have to drive to the finish line.
There's no narration to this game other than a few scattered background objects/landscape and some pictures left in the gameworld that may inform you vaguely on what happened in the past, other than that it's virtually a silent game.
On that narration aspect, I couldn't help but thinking that other games like say Planet of Lana did that better than this game, and yes I know PoL is like 5 years newer than this game, also with the comparison between the 2, PoL is longer and has more varied gameplay than this game. But this is still a solid game especially when discounted.
Ultrawide display is supported at the time that I was playing it (early 2025).
There is so much ambiguity with whats going to happen, what you currently need to do, the purpose of your actions etc. It was tense but chill at the same time. The feelings this game makes you feel is so heavy?
Nice little game with very good atmosphere. The gameplay and the puzzles are very simple -> the trailer shows it all.
I would give it 7/10.
Make thing go™.
Thing stops.
Find stuff to make the thing go™ again.
Repeat.
This game loop just works and I don't know why but it's just fantastic.
Puzzles are simple enough, and they don't take too much time away from making the thing go™.
Cool concept for a game - a zen ride with moments of hectic systems management and some puzzles.
Pleasing style.
damn, this not just a game. its an art.
short. yet, worth every moment 10/10
Really nice little game. Played through twice in just under 13 hours, but it's way short than that, like 4 hours tops. I just let it run in the background while I did other things. Definitely worth it at 85% off ($2.24). Full price? Eeeh.... It's very short and missed a lot of potential.
Even so, I think this game is superior to the later entry - Far: Changing Tides. That game is unnecessarily fiddly and it feels like the developers said "Players wish Lone Sails had more content, guys, so shove a bunch more content into Changing Tides instead. Don't worry about how polished or player friendly it is, just hurry up and get it done so we can start capitalizing on the success of the first game before everybody moves on."
Fun artsy adventure game about piloting your ship.
Fun was had. I had fun. Still playing it at time of writing.
Game play is a mix of simple puzzle platforming, making sure the ship doesn't blow up by monitoring various stations, and staring at the post-apocalyptic world.
I liked this more than the sequel, Changing Tides. Lone Sails was able to evoke the feeling of helplessness through the gameplay concept and the choice of color palette - giving a heftier emotional impact to the story beats in Lone Sails hit heavier than they do in the sequel - whereas Changing Tides felt more gameified and put more focus on the vessel management aspect of the game. Nonetheless, both are strong games that could be finished in one sitting and provides a relatively calming experience from start to finish.
Definitely recommended to play with the sequel to experience the entire package.
FAR: Lone Sails is a game about the end of a civilization, but you arent expected to be the one to fix it. the game has a strong understanding of what makes a relaxing game but still have a reason to go forward and has enough info in objects around the gamespace to tell a story without throwing it in your face to read. a game with no dialog that speaks a thousand words, a world that feels as alive as it is dying. a machine that only has just enough fuel to get to the next bit of fuel you need, a machine you grow to understand that it is not just a object to move you from one part of the game to another. but a character within its own, one that is with you always. hell even leaving the cruiser feels worrying, like you cant go on without it. the machine breaths and lives depending on how well you treat it and and the world around it. but in all the game has beautiful looks, a wonderful style that will never NOT look good, and a world that you just want to explore forever. and music that sings to you as you explore.
It's not a long game, but a very pretty and atmospheric game with some nice environmental storytelling and game mechanics. Since the game does not explain anything, there is no dialogue or tutorial, it relies heavily on conveying meaning with visual cues, which does not always work as intended. Once I got stuck so that I had to get a hint to progress, but otherwise I was able to figure the puzzle elements out without much issue.
I enjoy this game, like the graphic design very much and the story. Short game but really fun for passing time. Recomended for people who like discover and clues.
Far Lone Sails: A Journey Worth Taking
Far Lone Sails is an absolute gem. This game is a captivating blend of dynamic gameplay, stunning artistry, and a poignant narrative. From the moment you embark on your journey, you're drawn into a world that is both breathtakingly beautiful and eerily ominous.
The gameplay itself is a delightful mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource management. It's challenging yet rewarding, encouraging experimentation and creative problem-solving. The world is meticulously crafted, with every corner brimming with intricate details and hidden wonders.
The emotional core of Far Lone Sails is truly its standout feature. The story, though understated, is deeply moving and often melancholic. It's a journey of introspection and acceptance, leaving a lasting impact long after the credits roll.
Verdict:
I wholeheartedly recommend taking a few hours to experience Far Lone Sails. The developer has undoubtedly created something truly special. It's a game that will stay with you long after you finish playing.
Highlights:
Stunning visuals and atmospheric soundtrack
Engaging and challenging gameplay
Poignant and emotionally resonant story
High-quality production values
Overall:
10/10 - A masterpiece.
I hope this review captures the essence of your experience with Far Lone Sails!
Finished this game in one sitting; something I rarely do.
This game is short and sweet, a masterpiece in atmosphere and environmental storytelling.
The plot reveals are a bit predictable, but that doesn't make them any less impactful, nor less impressive considering they are achieved without saying a single word.
My only complaints are that when you crash into things, objects have a tendency to phase through walls and go flying away, and that the game has visual errors when played on a widescreen 3440 x 1440 aspect ratio; minor flaws that didn't significantly impact my enjoyment.
Hauntingly beautiful, mesmerizing game. I think it is telling the story of life. All the work and energy we expend on racing through life, but at the end, we all arrive at the same location. Enjoy the journey while it lasts.
FAR: Lone Sails is more about the journey than the destination. You maintain your vessel, keep it fueled and let it carry you through large and beautiful landscapes.
There are occasional stops for scavenging fuel and trinkets and to get past obstacles at certain milestones. Then you get back into your vessel, enjoy the view of the lands you're traversing and do all the little tasks it takes to keep it going. I feel like the devs balanced this out quite well. Maintaining this vehicle is just enough work to feel immersive without being cumbersome.
At three hours playtime this game is fairly short but I don't regret a single cent that I've spent on it. Throughout my journey I started to like this vehicle so much for carrying me through everything the world decided to throw at us that I started to understand why a captain would personify his ship.
Overall highly recommended but it will only appeal to certain kinds of people.
Whilst playing the game my partner started watching me play.
Partner: That looks really nice, but where is everyone?
Me: I don't know
Partner: But what is the story?
Me: I don't know
Partner: What are you trying to do?
Me: I don't know
Partner: Where are you going?
Me: I don't know
Partner: Well it looks really nice
Me: I know
Good one, forgot long ago how games actually used to feel like ^_^
brings back good flash era memories<3
wow. just wow. the music, platforming, visuals, story- everything in this game wowed me. if you are considering buying this I encourage you to do so, it is a great experience.
Nice casual and fun game pretty visuals. Good for a few hours.
This was a stunningly beautiful game! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it and was completely immersed in this cozy little barren wasteland. I was excited when I made things work and I was sad when things broke. I have so many favorite moments I want to share, but for spoiler's sake I will not divulge. I felt like I was truly a part of this small world and I am very glad I had the opportunity to play this game. The soundtrack by Joel Schoch is absolutely incredible as well (make sure to purchase it)! I first found out about this game from finding the soundtrack and I am so happy that chance event happened. 10/10!
Elegant, new experience of gaming, thank you for making this game!
I enjoyed my time with this 2-3 hour game. Very atmospheric, some hectic moments, but generally forgiving gameplay.
FAR: Lone Sails is a beautifully crafted indie gem that offers a unique and deeply emotional experience. The game masterfully combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource management, all set in a hauntingly serene post-apocalyptic world.
The art style is minimalistic yet stunning, with every frame feeling like a carefully composed painting. The soundtrack complements the visuals perfectly, creating an immersive atmosphere that pulls you into the journey.
Piloting the ingenious land-sailing vehicle feels rewarding, as you manage its intricate mechanics to traverse the desolate landscapes. Each challenge you encounter is thoughtfully designed, encouraging creative problem-solving without overwhelming you.
What sets FAR: Lone Sails apart is its storytelling. Without a single word, it conveys a powerful narrative about resilience, loss, and hope. It’s a game that doesn’t just entertain but also lingers with you long after the credits roll.
If you're looking for a short, unforgettable experience that proves games can be art, FAR: Lone Sails is a must-play.
a short little atmospheric title where you drive a land-ship and solve various puzzles to clear the way: I'd say it was worthwhile
Today, our teacher talked about The old man and the sea, I quickly thought of this game. Loneliness is an eternal topic.
The journey through the tinkering of the car is constantly shaping my own unique sense of loneliness. From the beginning of the confusion, to the continuous decryption, car repair, and fuel in the middle, I gradually became excited and happy. After reinforcing my car for the last time, it came to an abrupt halt and experienced a volcanic eruption, leaving only the ruins of the wall. Once again into endless solitude.
I really like the way the game is artworked, and I was fascinated by the cuteness that was shaped on top of seriousness. The fly in the ointment is that the constant collection of fuel and pressing the accelerator button is really tedious, and there is a lack of a lot of mood to enjoy the scenery.
Overall, it's still an indie masterpiece that struck me.
Lovely game, didn't regret the three hours in any way. Recommend for those that would like a quick, atmospheric story told, with some puzzle mixed in. The music was excellent, helped to set the tone.
This is what I call a pocket game, a small game that took me about 5 hours to complete, but it was one of the most pleasant things I have played in 35 years of gaming and certainly my most surprising purchase of 2024. A small but beautiful game that has a steam punk vibe with scenery worthy of Tales From The Loop that leaves you wondering what calamity befell this world and its people. Was it their machines? their industry? is there anyone else? Given our own worlds difficulties, I found it all poignant.
It's Over 9000!
You're a lost survivor in the post apocalyptic world, where you have recently lost your father. Be Prepared to find your way through the obstacles, disasters and the unpredictable nature that life throws at you.
Amazing Game, Amazing Music, Amazing Story. 10/10.
10/10 game. I wish so much that an extension could have come for it (not just the sequel), but the whole way through is just so enjoyable. Slightly freaky, but you're usually to occupied to worry too much about it. Practical achievements that you can balance most out in about 3 plays.
I've bought it twice now, if that says anything.
realy good game play and amazing story
This game has a unique game design and the game for me is a 10 out of 10. Will made.
Very artistic and very enjoyable. FAR: Lone Sails is a must have in every gamers library.
One of the most beautiful games ever made. A short game packed with incredible vistas, great music, relaxing moments and unexpected encounters that will shake up your gameplay and the way you see the world of FAR: Lone Sails.
I highly recommend this game to everyone, especially if you like games like Journey and Abzû.
Loved the visuals, soundtrack, atmosphere, lore, and especially the end (great cliff hanger)! Absolutely amazing game and I'm excited there's another FAR game out :)
Absolutely incredible art style, and amazing enviromental storytelling. a fantastic if short experience, only took about three hours to play through the entire game, but absolutely worth it. Wonderful mechanics, an adorable player character, No speech, no dialogue, Silent Protagonist, but just an incredible game. Very highly recommend it.
A easy-to-learn fun vehicle survival game that feels WAY TOO SHORT. I want more... I WANT MORE I SAY! But in all seriousness, this game made me way too sentimental about an in-game vehicle, making sure that my ship was in tip-top shape and topped up with more than enough fuel to last. I was ready to just play this endlessly only for my heart to be broken into a million pieces at the end. My poor ship...
Also, the atmosphere, art and music are just amazing and that should've been my first point but I was too sentimental at the time of my initial review.
Wished for more to the story, or maybe an interchangeable upgrade situation. but overall story was phenomenal as well as the music AND THE LANDSCAPE i wanted more i craved more. and will definitely be trying out Changing Tides next. looking forward to it, thank you for the enjoyable game.
100 out of 10. The art style, the gameplay, the story, the music, specially the music! What a game! Played it a couple of times. And most certainly will play more! Both of the games are amazing.
I'm getting a hand held, just so I can play this on the go, when ever, where ever!
Can't recommend it enough!
A slow-moving puzzle game that creates an atmosphere of very remote, solitary exploration. I thought the game looked amazing. Rather than never-ending CG, everything looked as if it were hand-painted; a very nice change. The music is the real gem though. The score is beautiful...exceedingly rare to hear such high-caliber jazz composition in a game. Acoustic instruments are preferred for many sound effects. My only disappointment is that the game is very, very short.
Very atmospheric and thoughtful indie game. Beautiful to look at, short and well designed.
As a wannabe sound designer, I absolutely adored the sound design of this game! It is flowing and breathing with the game-play flawlessly. Would be very proud to have been a part of such a project.
:) Maybe someday.
Another gem. FAR: Lone Sails was short but sweet, and the story kept me wanting more.
I also loved operating the ship, this was truly a unique and fun experience.
The game takes you on a journey after an unsaid apocalypse, and it's a desolate one. The direction is always the same: "go right."
The visual style is phenomenal, and the soundtrack keeps me coming back to listen to it.
Very fun game overall!
A fun experience, if relatively short. Lot's of interesting vistas, soundtrack is great. The gameplay loop of having to scavenge for fuel gets a little tedious at times, and I felt like one of the final scenes, one of the game's biggest moments (if you know you know- hint trumpets) ended woefully too quickly.
Amazingly absorbing game full of interesting puzzles that gave a sense of achievement and challenge while not being frustratingly difficult
