Way back in the day I used to rent this game for the original Xbox. Finding it again on Steam was a major surprise to me, and having loved it but never being able to finish it I jumped right back in when I got it. It still holds up well enough today, but not without some issues.
The game itself is very silly: you take a jovial band of thieves to overthrow an evil tyrant and blow up everything and most everyone along the way. It rarely takes itself seriously with every cutscene loaded up with jokes and tons of chatter mid game too. The gameplay itself keeps itself fresh through different objectives in each level. However, the mouse's sensetivity is waaaaay too high for the game and there's no way to lower it enough for it to be practical at all, so you need to get used to barely moving it. The turret sections are kind of lame, and the ending is sudden and somewhat limp. In the end even with these things it's still an enjoyable romp set to a wonderful soundtrack.
Shame I can't recommend this game, but the cutscenes are really the only thing worth interacting with. Watch them, they're amazing!
The game itself is a highly repetitive arcade shooter. How repetitive? Once you've played the first mission you've pretty much played every mission. No, sorry! There's also a turret section every 4th level, they're the boss fights. The game doesn't really challenge you in different ways, so much as gives you different objectives for the same challenge. Environments change, harder enemies come, but it's the same thing really. Destroy barracks's, reach the end, defend the thing, or collect the things (which is just "reach the end" on a smaller map)". You'll get a few wacky guns and gadgets, but they're so inefficient to you're infinite ammo M1 or Machine Gun that you get at the start, that they'll probably get you killed before it hits the target, and enemies are generally easy to kill anyway, just infinitely respawn until their barracks is destroyed, so you'll never really use them.
Shame really, those cutscenes are so good. Watch them!
