There's still an active scene for this game! I remember playing tons of couch sessions with my brother and cousins growing up on the PlayStation 2 and I was really happy to see people still playing it all these years later. So get out there and save the galaxy or something.
I love this game so much, I grew up on it. Ever since I was a kid I would do chores just to play it. By time I turn 11, I got a Xbox 360 with a copy of this game and I played it for so long and so much that I got bored of it. Eventually I got a Xbox series X and had it in my library but almost never played it. But rolled around 2024 Christmas and got myself a laptop with an $80 gift card for steam. Loyd and behold Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) was like $2, of course I got it and now started getting back into it. I love this game so much but I know once I completed the campaign and did all of the factions in galactic conquest on elite diff, I will lose interest. But if steam workshop was added to it, oh man would it make the game so easy to mod and make it so much more fun that it already is. This is not only to tell you the experience I had, but also a cry for steam to add workshop to it. But regardless, please download and give it a shot and I hope you have an experience of a lifetime same as I had!
It's widely considered the best Star Wars game ever for a reason. If you like Star Wars, you will love this.
fun game, but outdated mechanics/graphics/design
Will not boot. Waste of money. I recommend you just find a way to play the ps2 version.
Good game, holds up well to this day, just needs bug fixes. This game brings back so many memories.
Great game i love the story mode, the maps, and the game modes. Graphics are okay but mods can improve the game like star wars saga edition which makes graphics look better and has more maps and game modes so if you don't want to burn your computer getting 2017 battlefront 2 get this game (just don't get the classic collection).
If you experienced black screen while playing this game, it's likely because of Discord overlay.
Go to Discord, click registered games in activity settings, you'll be able to find Battlefront 2 being listed there, and then turn off toggle detection and toggle overlay. I also experienced the black screen and it was resolved after turning off the Discord overlay.
My opinion about this game: Yeah it's good
The game is amazing a trip down memory lane, so what more can I say about it?
One of the best Star Wars games ever created. I enjoy every aspect of it! The main campain, the multiplayer, everything. All the modes are fun.
I may have put 1000+ hours in to this game on the PS2. My brother and I played it every day for years. On PC, with mods and custom maps, it is truly infinitely replayable. I highly recommend this over the more recent re-release.
This game was a part of my childhood, and, despite the time passed, I feel like it still holds up.
This is the kind of game you wanna take a can of roasted beans and shove everything you can up your nose. I can't recommend it more!
It holds up really well in all departments. I'm not a huge starwars fan but I love a good shooter. Don't buy the classic collection
game doesnt work on PC, keeps black screening randomly
the most unbalanced unfair garbage with braindead ally ai and cheating enemy ai i have ever seen. this turd has the audacity to crash on me two times in a row after i grinded hoth campaign for two hours. play battlefront 1 or go EA route. avoid even if cheap. this might be the worst game in the genre. i had huge nostalgia going in but it faded quickly
trash.. screen goes black often and wont return. Unplayable
Some good nostalgia and online is pretty fun.
You want Star Wars warfare?
You want to blast CIS Battle Droids?
You want to destroy some Rebel scum?
You want to defeat the Republic as the Confederacy of Independent Systems?
You want to save the galaxy from the Imperial Empire?
You want incredibly fun gameplay with non-stop carnage?
You want fantastic mod capability to enhance the game in ways never seen before?
You want Galactic Conquest in a FPS?
You want to get slaughtered by Darth Maul?
--- Then this is the game for you.
The pinnacle of the Battlefront games. This game is a classic and using mods creates the Star Wars Battlefront game we never got.

I would not recommend this game, unless you are coming to play the multiplayer. It's a fine game, holds up very well, despite the spotty port, but I have problems with it.
- The Ai is very basic and tends to get stuck on each other, even in open spaces, and the Ai is never implementing a "Grand Strategy". As in you never feel like the Ai is pushing to a particular objective, or defending a choke point, or doing anything more than running around randomly. This becomes very clear when there are only a few enemy units left and they're scattered all over the map. I think this could have been easily fixed by giving the Ai the squad system already in the game (That the Player can use) to group them together. That way if the leader of that group wants to push or defend it'll look more organised, and if that leader dies it can just cycle through each member of the squad until they're all killed. That way different squads can have different numbers and the Ai won't just death march into joining a squad that's in a vulnerable spot, but not getting wiped out for some reason. And! would hopefully remove the need to "fake kill" the respawn number in the background of every fight, making every win feel like luck with no tactical significance to your actions. Doesn't matter if you get triple the K/D and lock down the majority of the map. You could still lose because of RNG.
- The Ui is pretty outdated (I have to google what the maps are if I want a particular theme, because they only tell me the planet names) and the load times are shockingly long on my PC. I can Play Doom Eternal with no issues, it's not me. There's also a lack of game mode variety, except for the few secret game modes, which are the same as regular games but you play as a native Gungan or something. You don't see these creatures outside of these modes (and some campaign missions), which is sad, because it would have really spiced up the variety if they were just selectable on certain maps for certain factions or were a 3rd neutral faction. I don't need lots of maps! I would have just preferred if they made each map they already have feel different from one another. Also, Keyboard controls feel awful and there's no controller support, which is unacceptable.
- Space Battles suck. There is nothing unique to them after you try them once and they are very boring. Same with Galactic Conquest, it's the same thing no matter the faction, with no unique events, story or challenges to spice it up. It's the most rudimentary "strategy game board" mode, and I never understand why people like these.
- Campaign feels cheaply put together and the ending just fizzles out on Hoth (You've seen Star Wars! this isn't a spoiler). I like the idea, but there are no characters you can attach yourself to like with Republic Commando.
Playing this game makes me really want to mod it to fix these issues and just give it the polish I think it deserves. But I don't know how to mod, nor should I have to, to feel satisfied playing something. If you're coming into this game expecting it to be "One of the best games EVER", like what a bunch of Youtubers are selling it as, then I don't think you'll have as much fun as you should. Again, it's a good game, hold up really well, but I want you to really look at that asterisk when I add *For the time it came out in 2005.
If you think that the modern gaming scene is boring... Then you clearly played this growing up. Go ahead and play Jabba's palace and get nade spammed to death my friends. May the Force... No I'm sick of it that line has gotten old with so many people throwing it around. We will watch your career with great interest. For The Republic!!!
Just like the simulations.
Do not under any circumstances buy that scam rerelease slop that Aspyr and Lucasfilm (Disney) put out. There are still active modding and multiplayer communities right here on the original.
I hate buying games on steam because they never work like they should. I thought that family share would allow me and my wife to play together but apparently not. I am definitely not wasting money on buying new or old games anymore after this. I will stick to the xbox live premium stuff and then I wont feel so irritated when things like this happen. Game is ok for an outdated series that was fun if coplayer. Family share should allow coop games but doesnt matter I wont be wasting money on buying the title anymore lol
Its a game I played when it first came out 20 years ago or so and I STILL play it. its a timeless classic
This is an 'Oldie but a Goodie' combines strategy, FPS, and dogfighting in a simple to use format that has kept me playing off and on for years.
People actually play it online, it's not 50 gigs, mods work out of the box, it's not 50 gigs, it and Battlefront 1 together are much cheaper than the Classic Collection, and did I mention that it's not 50 gigs?
Since they're actually getting discounts for the first time since the Classic Collection came out (last time was back in February), just grab this and the standalone Battlefront 1 instead of Aspyr's bastardization.
Game is unplayable. Shuts off computer screen at any attempt to play the game.
good game and it's kinda better then the new battlefront 2 game
It's a fun old school shooter game set in the Star Wars universe. Give it a shot, or you could try out the EA Battlefront 2 game.
8.5/10
The screen would cut to black like five times when I tried to play training. I think the version I have is defective, and therefore unplayable. I do not recommend this game.
The very best star wars game alongside the original LEGO Star Wars games.
I can't say much for the new games, but if you want a rewarding "Star Wars: Battlefront" experience without microtransactions (in other words, a complete game) you can't go wrong with this classic. Though the graphics and controls haven't aged the absolute best, and the AI is pretty substandard, it's still fun to run around huge alien battlefields or fight a ship to ship battle in space with friends; especially since this game has a mode called "Galactic Conquest," which is like a strategy board game, only instead of rolling dice, it's fighting a huge campaign throughout the galaxy! Unlike the previous Battleground game, this one has characters from the films that you can unlock as you play, giving even more depth to this already fun experience. I highly recommend it, and a third game in this series would have been spectacular, though I'm sad to report that Pandemic's publishers decided that their next game in the series was going to be a Lord of the Rings game which turned out to be... let's just be charitable and say, "not as good." Ah, what we could have had.
Highly recommended.
La conquista es de lo mejor, es de esos juegos que no aburren y va de maravilla cuando se va el Internet
What do I really need to say here, we all know and love this game already. Try mods, there are a lot of great ones out there that only work with this truly classic version and not the overpriced bloatware by Aspyr.
Man, playing this game again brings back so many memories. I unfortunately don’t have my PS2 no more ( but still have this game for it) but playing it through here is still just as fun. I hope this game never dies
Absolute waste of money for the steam version. Runs horrible. Get the GOG one, or better yet track down the real deal.
The games okay if you don't mind playing by yourself...Ever since the little update and the servers being brought online it kinda made it popular again...But I downloaded it on steam to see if the servers was full and sadly not one server was full or active. Great game to play for old time sake but nothing more then that.
I remember playing this on private servers like 10 years ago cause the online multiplayer servers ea ran were no longer in service this game has stood the test of time and continues to be better than whatever crap they put out now.
A classic game that is still fun and enjoyable in 2024. Fun gameplay and vehicle are fun to drive and control.
It has a few kinks but it holds its own. Especially with the Legacy Mod
A great sequel to 2004's first Battlefront game. Given the short term between the first and the second games' release, not much have changed graphic-wise but BF2's addition of the space battle makes the sequel so much better than the first. A great classic Star Wars game to play.
With over 20 new battlefronts on land and in space, this is a great sequel with a lot more added features improving the original tenfold.
This is an older game but the play is simple yet challenging. Easy enough to get into with my wife yet still very fun. Both third person shoioter and flight sim in the same game. Two thumbs up.
Best game ever. Been playing since 2005 on PSP. I love every second. Buy it.
I absolutely LOVE this game its perfect down to every last detail (i love classic 2000 games so that might be why)
would like to be able to play mods in this game
I like this game. It is a beloved piece of my youth, although the steam version of this game feels a tad finicky & more difficult to use. I'd personally recommend the Xbox Classic version available on any of the Xbox consoles as that one is the most content-rich & is more practical. Still, this game is goated so my review remains positive. Just keep in mind there are better versions available.
Ryan George Style Pitch Meeting: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) Honest Trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)
Game Designer (Ryan George): So, you have a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Classic 2005 for me?
Publisher (Ryan George without glasses): Yes, sir, I do!
Game Designer: Great! So we’re bringing the ultimate Star Wars battlefield experience to life! We’re talking about epic 64-player battles on land, space combat, and heroes like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and of course, Jar Jar Binks.
Publisher: What? Wait, you said Jar Jar Binks?
(Suddenly, Jar Jar Binks bursts in, flailing his arms dramatically.)
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa here! Meesa da mastermind behind everything!
Publisher: What is happening? Why is Jar Jar here?
Game Designer: Oh, yeah. Jar Jar’s in the game. But here's the twist: he's secretly an evil Sith Lord mastermind who's been pulling the strings behind the scenes. Meesa da one who created da Empire!
Publisher: Wait, Jar Jar? He's the Sith Lord? The one behind it all?
Game Designer: Yep! Jar Jar’s the mastermind—he orchestrated the whole Clone Wars, the Rise of the Empire, and he was the one who got the Death Star made. And you know what? He’s been pretending to be goofy to distract everyone. It’s genius.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa make all da big decisions! Meesa's da one dat called da shots!
Publisher: Oh my god. You’re telling me the entire Star Wars saga is secretly Jar Jar’s fault?
Game Designer: Exactly! It’s a masterful plan! He pretends to be clumsy and annoying, but really, he’s the one controlling the whole galaxy. You just didn’t notice because he's so good at acting dumb. It’s brilliant.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa da one who made da Force work, meesa da one who made da Death Star explode, meesa da one who—
Publisher: Alright, alright. So, Jar Jar’s an evil genius, but what’s actually going on in the game?
Game Designer: Well, this is the sequel to Battlefront 1, and it’s even bigger and better. We’ve got huge, epic battles—space combat, land battles, everything. You can fight as the Republic, the Empire, or even as the Rebels and Separatists. And, of course, you can play as heroes like Darth Vader, Yoda, Han Solo, and... Jar Jar Binks.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa da most powerful hero in da game! Yup, meesa da one who saves da day— WHOA—Meesa trip!
Publisher: What? Wait, Jar Jar’s a hero in this game? But he’s the villain?
Game Designer: Oh, no, no—he’s a hero, but here’s the thing. He’s an accident-prone disaster. He’s supposed to be a hero, but every time you play him, you end up ruining your team’s chances by knocking over vehicles, tripping into explosives, and getting stuck on things. But hey, it’s funny, right?
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa help da Empire! Meesa also blow up all da ships—whoopsie! Meesa create chaos, meesa win!
Publisher: Whoopsie indeed. So, we have a chaotic hero who can barely do anything right, and that’s fun?
Game Designer: Exactly! It's hilarious! You can’t help but laugh at how terrible he is at everything, but at the same time, he's everywhere. He’s like the unknowing secret agent of destruction. Players will love it!
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa make da Clone Troopers go boom! Hehehe!
Publisher: Very considerate. Okay, what about the other heroes? Like, the actual good guys—Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker?
Game Designer: Oh, they’re in there, too! And they’re gods. Like, in the game, these heroes are way overpowered. They’re basically invincible unless you’ve got a bunch of teammates shooting at them at once.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa still da strongest, though! No one can defeat meesa in da game!
Publisher: Wait, so the main heroes are super strong, and Jar Jar’s... competently useless, but still manages to become a disaster everywhere he goes?
Game Designer: That’s the beauty of it! You can be a Sith Lord or a Jedi Master, but no one is as fun as playing Jar Jar and ruining everything. And let’s not forget about the vehicles. The AT-ATs, TIE Fighters, X-Wings—we got everything!
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa gonna crash da TIE Fighter! Hehehe!
Publisher: Whoops. So Jar Jar’s just going to crash everything in the game?
Game Designer: Exactly! Whether he’s driving a TIE Fighter, an AT-AT, or just randomly driving around in a speeder bike, he’s always tripping over things, knocking into allies, and accidentally blowing up the whole team. But hey, it’s super fun.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa’s da best driver in da galaxy! Hehehe, oh no!
Publisher: What? Okay, I see it now. So, the gameplay is just chaotic fun with absolutely no logic to anything that happens, especially when you play as Jar Jar?
Game Designer: Yep! You can play through epic battles, blow up entire squads, randomly crash everything, and still have a good time! It’s Star Wars—but dumber.
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa da one who made da Force go crazy!
Publisher: Oh my god. So... this game is chaos and Jar Jar Binks is in the middle of it all?
Game Designer: Exactly! And we’re going to sell millions of copies on Steam and everyone will be playing it for years—especially with that nostalgic chaos feel.
Publisher: Well, okay then!
Game Designer: Great! Jar Jar’s chaos is now the center of the game—and we’re all gonna get rich!
Jar Jar Binks: Meesa gonna be a millionaire, who’s da real Sith Lord now? Hoo-hoo-hoo!
Publisher: Well, okay then!
End

Honest Trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)

From the creators of the game that lets you relive iconic Star Wars battles, comes Star Wars: Battlefront 2—the game where hero spam, random explosions, and broken mechanics rule the galaxy.
(Cut to explosions.)
Narrator:
Choose your side: Rebels, Empire, or the incompetent Republic and Separatists. All sides look the same, but somehow everyone’s bad at their jobs. Don’t worry about balance; we’re too busy making stuff explode.
(Cut to gameplay of a stormtrooper running around aimlessly.)
Narrator:
Want to play as iconic heroes like Darth Vader, Yoda, or Leia? Great, because the hero units are way too strong! Who cares about strategy when you can just spam buttons until you win?
(Cut to Leia deflecting shots.)
Darth Vader (voiceover):
"I find your lack of skill disturbing."
Narrator:
Now with space battles! Get lost in space, crash into your teammates, and forget what’s happening in the chaos.
Leia (voiceover):
"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi..."
Narrator:
From Naboo to Hoth, relive iconic battles where the real fun is playing heroes and stomping on everything with no strategy at all.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiceover):
"You were the chosen one!"
Narrator:
Because why bother with a balanced game when you can blow stuff up with no effort?
Han Solo (voiceover):
"I’ve got a bad feeling about this."
Narrator:
From questionable AI to broken respawns, this game lets you do everything except play with a plan.
(Cut to AI troopers walking into walls.)
Narrator:
Get ready for Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Where broken mechanics, hero spamming, and chaotic battles come together to create a classic mess of Star Wars action.
(Cut to Vader destroying everything.)
Narrator:
Now available on Steam, so you can relive the glory of 2005 multiplayer chaos. And don't forget the offline campaign! Fight through the Clone Wars and Empire vs. Rebels, but hope you don’t get stuck with the worst AI in history.
(Text on screen: “Warning: May cause confusion, explosions, and team-killing.”)
Narrator:
Prepare for more destruction than you thought possible. And remember—don’t mess with the heroes. They’ll mess with you first.
(Cut to gameplay showing Yoda spinning around, fighting with absurd speed.)
Narrator:
Yoda’s small, but deadly—when you’re not glitching into the ground!
(Cut to a player getting sniped in the face while playing as a hero.)
Narrator:
Star Wars: Battlefront 2: More hero nonsense, more space chaos, and more "What even is happening?" moments.
(End)
Maybe the defining game of my childhood, and still the game which I go back to when I need to detox completely
I have mad nostalgia for this game and was excited to play it for the first time in years. Problem is I can't play it because the screen will go black and stay that way for extended amounts of time.
