Game started out super intriguing, and overall it is well made. However, it is WAY TO EASY, and there's no difficulty setting. I beat the final boss in about 3 minutes without dying. This game feels like it is targeted towards 10 year olds, which maybe it is and there's no problem with that.
One of the greatest games made 'in it's genre'. Very debatable what that means but i dont really care to elaborate more.
Psychonauts 1 set the bar so high back then i didn't even believe the sequel could possibly top it with all the modern day slop coming out surely this game will also get entangled in bad game design and monetization and what not.
Nope. It is great. Just what you would hope for.
More polished even than the first one. Incredible feat considering how easily one gets let down and it also helps that game is sold for rock bottom prices during sales. I see no flaws whatsoever here if you like colorful, elaborate 'different' platformers with varying mechanics and tasks you need to perform.

Absolutely incredible art style and creativity. The game has so many different styles and ideas it keeps the whole game fresh. While the gameplay is nothing crazy to write home about its fun enough. Its all the crazy environments all with their own style that really bring this game to life. Every mind is unique. Highly recommend.
It pains me to give a game with such charm a negative review, but sadly that's the only thing it has going for it. Gameplay is very basic while at the same time being bloated with abilities and mechanics that could have been streamlined, it gets tedious very soon.
Narrative-wise it's also a mess, it feels like playing Inception three layers deep until you lose track of the main goal, I ended up skipping the cutscenes as I didn't care anymore for anything and I just wanted to see credits roll.
I would have preferred a more polished gameplay and a more focused experience, this is a mess of ideas and gameplay mechanics that should have been refined as per modern gaming standards.
I wanted to write this review to say the following: if you are the owner of a Steam Deck and are hesitant to buy it because of the "Playable" compatibility - don't be. The game is 100% playable and extremely enjoyable on Steam Deck. I haven't had a moment where I seriously had to think about what I was doing or needing to adjust for the fact that I'm playing on the Deck.
This game is absolutely fantastic to play, a brilliant 3D platformer and a great, fun story with amazing visuals, characters, soundtrack, combat and more. I highly recommend you get it!
I was worried at first that this game would be worse than Psychonauts 1. That there would be less content, that it wouldn't be the same type of game, that it would just be bad in general.
It's just as good as the first game, if you enjoyed that, I'd definitely recommend. I hope at some point they make a Psychonauts 3.
If you have played the first "psychonauts" game in where you invade the dreams of all kind of weird and funny characters who inhabit the world of "psychonauts"
The game is till the day of today a cult classic and back in the day it was released, it did not get the sales figures it deserved.
Now we are years further ahead in time and there it is.
"Psychonauts 2"
The game still is a very good looking, funny and above all great playing action adventure game that can be a bit compared to the likes of Ratched and Clank, Sly Raccoon, Jak and Daxter, etc.
Controls are very direct and everything work perfect. In the five hours i have played i did not get bored a single minute.
This is a great sequel in every way.
Sound is good and clear and the story is entertaining enough to keep on playing.
Graphics are very good and the colour palette is all very fitting to the vibe of the game.
If i had to slap a rating on this then i would give this game 8,5 out of 10 points.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! (as is the first game, if you have never played this game.)
Seeing the incredible reviews, I was expecting a lot better. I had fun with it, but it really fell short later in the last sections of the game.
First, the positives :
• Graphics are nice
• Some of the levels and their concepts are really creative (some are also a real bore).
Alas, the game suffers from :
• I will give no spoilers, but the story is a mess. It started ok, but as it went on, it was weaker and weaker. By the end section, I had no motivation whatsoever, slogged though just to finish it.
• The platforming is just SO basic . It's not fun at all. You just jump from platform to platform, go down a hallway or link through bubbles in the air (with a simple push of a button). There is no variety, no challenge, no fun move allowing exploration.
• The combat mechanics are also very basic. As are the enemies, there is not a big variety and by the end, it's always the same fight, over and over.
So there you have it, a bland game overall, I feel like I wasted my time. If you want a great 3D platformer, I would suggest playing Tinykin, a much better game (for me).
This game is an unplayable mess of constant stutters even on my 6700xt.

Known as It Takes One , the game impresses me mostly because of its creative designs. You can find many hidden surprises by applying your skills, which is also very featured, to explore the maps, in unusual ways! Collections shoulder the function of guidance as well, and the game offers several assisting items to help you explore and collect, which is friendly for collecting the achievements. (Attention: you're unable to collect them all once play the game. Some are designed to reach after acquiring more skills in the latter plots! It really bothered me a lot.) However, the operation feeling is kinda terrible. During my 30hrs playing time, I had been driven mad because of the bugs as well as the sight angle problems for quite a few times. I guess that's one of the reasons that it failed to win the GOTY over It Takes Two . If you're a fan of this kind of game, I recommend Tinykin instead, which is easier and has a perfect operating system.

Psychonauts 2 has a lot of heart and soul but honestly it's not as great as everyone claims it is. The voice acting, environments and character design are S tier and carry a lot of my enjoyment of the game, because everything else is meh.
The gameplay is OK at best. Levels are very linear and the platforming itself is a bit clunky in many cases. Many levels and bosses feel like they're 2-3x as long as they should be.
What almost kills the game for me is how frequent cutscenes are. I swear there are so many sections in the game where there are back-to-back cutscenes every few steps you take.
Walked into a room? Cutscene. Walked a bit further? Cutscene of enemies spawning. Defeated enemies in 20 seconds? Cutscene. Now talk to this NPC. Done? Here's a cutscene. This game LOVES stopping you from playing every minute or so.
When you're not in a cutscene you start to realize how samey all the levels are. Platforming is very trivial and aside from moving a bit faster while on the ball, there is no interesting movement mechanics. It really is "double jump from platform to platform - the game".
If you take the game for what it is - an interactive theme park/animated movie - you'll have a lot of fun. If you're here for exciting gameplay, there are way better 3D platformers out there.
I only slightly recommend this because of the gameplay and story, I think other facets of this game like most characters and levels bring it down significantly compared to the first game.
Better Controls, Movement and Combat, but at the loss of the dull atmosphere and bad bosses
Best game in the franchise though
Ran into game breaking bug. Apparently this bug has been known for a year and nothing has been done. In strike city at second ball shiner it gets stuck and you cannot move or jump off. You can't go farther back than that section or do anything to affect this. I don't want to restart whole game as I already put in a lot of hours. It was a great game until this point but I cannot continue or finish it. Major disappointment.
Psychonauts grew up, got a degree in psychology, but still shows up to work wearing mismatched socks and shouting, the brain is a playground! That’s Psychonauts 2 — a sequel that takes everything wild and weird from the first game and cranks it up to 11.
This time, you’ll dive into minds that look like art exhibits, theme parks, and fever dreams hosted by Salvador Dalí and your subconscious fears. Levels are tighter, ideas are brighter, and emotional baggage is still everywhere — basically like adulthood. The humor lands perfectly, balancing wit and absurdity, while the story reminds you that behind every eccentric thought is a real person just trying to hold it together.
Psychonauts 2 feels like visiting a childhood friend who’s matured but hasn’t lost their sense of wonder and who still invites you to do something completely insane.
Absolutely fantastic 10/10 platformer. Nothing short of a beautiful masterpiece. This game has some of the most beautiful art designs I've seen. Some of the most creative levels and a story that moved me. Plenty of likable and compelling characters.
What an absolutely fantastic, funny and well designed game this was. I enjoyed every minute. For 80% off it was an absolute steal!
Looking forward to Phychonauts 3!
I wish there was more content , especially side quests to constant main story content but in general it was peak playing this right after finishing the 1st one.

Its pretty good, a lot of great stages that touch on different aspects of the mind used to tell a fairly predictable story (even with 0 knowledge of the first)
- The combat is serviceable, but the low enemy variety and few combat options made me feeling the game is better off....with no combat at all. Even the boss fights are lame in gameplay.
- Progression is meh, the shops skills are 70% meme 30% negligible and locked behind level caps. You can win all fights with not much upgrades, just need health. AND THERES ONLY 3 SLOTS WHY
- Great art that elevated everything else, the character designs, environments, and stages are beautifully unique, so everything above is forgiven

One of those pieces of media that you enjoy so much that when you finish you feel a profound sense of sadness having to say goodbye to the characters and world that lasts a week, which kinda outweighs the near-straight 14 hours it takes to beat it

An improvement on the original in every way.
Psychonauts 2 picks up the story right where Psychonauts left off, but delivers exposition well enough that you don't need to play the original, without making the original fully redundant. The story is very engaging and does a much better job at addressing and representing the mental issues the game wants to tackle than the original. It doesn't lose the humor, it just learns how to use it in a less abusive way.
The game has a fairly easy difficulty, beating it should be relatively easy for anyone. However there are many items and collectibles which are very well-hidden, requiring some truly tricky platforming .It still has some platforming jank, sometimes it's truly difficult to tell whether a failure was caused by user error or physics error, however at no point is any jank an impediment to completion.
The game looks very nice, The art style of the 2011 original barely saves it from aging as badly as other games from that era have. (There's a reason they had to re-release Skyrim so many times!) It was a relief to see the style was improved by a higher fidelity. While even 3 years out it's hard to say how well this game will age as time progresses, I am confident in predicting it will hold up at least as well as the original has.
Overall, there were very few parts of Psychonauts 2 that I genuinely didn't enjoy, and nearly every other moment was a joy to experience.
You have to recommend this game, at least I don't feel like I have a choice in the matter.
This game is very funny so unsurprisingly character dialogue is a high point. The camera work is used to great effect to create comedic moments often in combination with characters' reactions or some juxtaposition. There's loads of quality, witty writing or puns and I mean the good stuff, not the garbage you see everywhere these days.
The performance is overall good, my framerate was around 200 throughout at max settings though there were instances of stuttering under repeatable conditions and some minor visual bugs. Fidelity isn't a focus here, graphically the game is a shored up iteration on the original, which isn't a problem owing to the impressive art and environment design.
I found the characters and their stories reasonably compelling, but some far more than others. Trying to sell the interns as comrades at the end was a mistake, those guy are jerks. I like most everyone else.
This is deeply faithful to the original; you can tell this is a work of love from a team for whom the first game mattered and this is partly why I feel compelled to review positively. However, this faithfulness is to its detriment. The gameplay, exploration and platforming is boring as your abilities aren't used enough or in interesting ways. Your abilities are used, but never more than two at a time due to the insane equipping system which really should have been buried with the first game. There are 9 powers in the game, but you can only have 4 equipped at once. To switch which is equipped you open a menu and swap one out, which pauses the game. You have to do this CONSTANTLY and completely interrupts the gameplay, including during combat since some enemies require certain abilities to fight them at all.
About the combat briefly, it's easy and not that interesting. Most enemies have a hard counter ability so, as I say, you end up pausing to switch a lot. it's fine. You will take a lot more damage from falling off during platforming than you ever will from combat. I died once in the game but you can get an item which nullifies death, so I never reached a fail screen in my 21 hours played.
When I was having fun, the game was doing something unique or interesting, but this was hit or miss and a lot of the regular moving from platform to platform sections were a snoozefest. I think one additional movement ability that you don't have to equip would have been a welcome addition.
Buy on sale, there's a lot to love but getting from one good bit to another unfortunately requires gameplay.
I think the most telling thing about any Psychonauts game is that I always hang around for a bit after finishing the game. Not to 100% it, not to find every collectible or achievement but to say goodbye - to the characters, to the story and to the amazing world that Double Fine has created.
There is nothing but praise for double fine, Psychonauts 1 and 2, and the psychoddysey.
You have made a wonderful set of games, with lovely stories to tell of pain and healing, of rediscovery and acceptance, and of gilt and forgiveness.
Please, do play these games, enjoy them for the first time, and once you're done, wait for some months, some years, and play them again.
I have done the same and it has been an incredible experience, especially for the second time I played it.
This game has made me cry and smile, and completing it for a second time was as rewarding as revisiting an old friend.
I actually gave Psychonauts 1 a couple of days ago, but the initial tedium and the pacing of the early game stopped me from continuing. Psychonauts 2, in the other hand, fixes these issues for a more modern experience. The characters are fun and the story isn't hard to follow, you even get a recap of the events of the first game and the VR game so you aren't totally lost.
The platforming is solid, not too big on the combat but it still works for the game that it is serviceable. You end up figuring out which powers suit best for you, and with a controller it's easy to swap between powers in battle.
Psychonauts 2 is a game that feels like such a labor of love and it absolutely shows. When the end credits roll, you'll see a huge wall of kickstarter backers, one of the longest I've ever seen. And I just get it now.

Absolutely in the #1 spot for games for me. This game contains so much more story than I would have ever expected. There's so many intricate details that speak volumes for human nature and psyche. They nailed it! This game also plays like the old PS2 games; it's an adventure every step of the way and the perfect difficulty for a moderate challenge. I would buy this game over and over again, it's that good. Thank you developers!

- same problem as the 1st people will talk to you as you walk around collecting things. you can trigger another chunk of text or a cutscene, missing that dialogue forever!!!

+ unlike the 1st every achievement can be earned after you finish the game. had to make a fresh save file to show everyone the pet turtle for the 1st one
- overpriced for $60. it took me 26 hours to 100% everything. i would say like 7 8 hours if you just do the story
- i waited 3 years to get this game for a reasonable price
look forward to a 3rd installment in the franchise, vr game doesn't count that was awful.
perhaps the next game can be of a sibling joining the ranks and learning all the original powers and new ones along the way.

Revival of a cult classic in a true labor of love fashion. Everything has been polished up to the extreme without losing its sense of identity, retaining that old style.
It's good enough to recommend, but isn't a flawless experience by any measure.
The story is pretty decent, with twists and turns and the same insane world that the first game benefited from. That being said, none of it is anywhere near as memorable as the best beats from the first. It's frequently clever, often genuinely funny, but naturally there are plenty of slow or flat beats in there as well.
The platforming is infuriating for the most part, which is disconcerting as it's kind of the main point. Very little of it needs to be rushed, however, so as long as you don't try to be inventive it's absolutely trivial. The main frustration comes from misreading a situation, thinking you can get to a collectable or shortcut. Half the time you'll hit an invisible wall or a non-grabbable ledge and fall a few times. Inventiveness is discouraged.
It's moderately short (in my opinion) but equally doesn't overstay its welcome, which may well have happened with another five or six hours on the runtime. My playtime is end to end, 100% completion, with a moderate amount of scanning and backtracking to find all collectable items. The main set pieces are worth the time spent though, as long as you're invested - a little too much of the main story is cutscene or non-interactive ridealong.
It's fun.
Each mind world is structurally themed in a cool way, they improved on the art without changing it at all and made it work.
The twists in the plot are all foreshadowed so it's easy to guess some of them, but there are a lot and the ones that got past me felt pretty clever.
I can sum the review as simply. "If you liked Psychonauts, you'll like Psychonauts 2". There's little things the first game does do that this game doesn't improve on. It has more QoL features, combat is better, story is better.
Only thing that might be a bit of a turn-off is it's not as puzzle heavy as the first game, so take that as you will.
Fun game. The controls work nicely. Plays well on the steam deck.
I lost tons of progress because it won't let me save my game, it auto-saves at checkpoints, its basically making me choose between completing an entire level and being able to exit when I need to. There is no gameplay based reasoning for this whatsoever, just lazy development.

When Psychonauts 2 came out, I knew instantly it was a masterpiece. From the moment I laid my hands on the controller, it felt like I was stepping into something truly special. Finally purchasing the game and reliving the world solidified my view that this, is the best 3D platformer ever made.
The game's writing is sharp, humorous with heartfelt storytelling tackling mental health with sensitivity. The first game though amazing, felt lacking in the way they talked about people's personal struggles, here, they improved in every way.
If you haven't played this game yet, please do yourself a favor.

This game is a lot of fun! I am new to the Psychonauts series so the gameplay took some getting used to. But after some remapping of the keys it quickly made the game much easier to pick up and play. The dialogue is funny and the game play isn't too challenging. Highly recommend!
Really awesome sequel!!! Psychonauts 1 and 2 are some of the best games I've ever played, really nice and fun platforming with good action, I like how you can mix powers to take down enemies, I thought they were gonna be a walk in the park, but sometimes they outnumber you and you get your butt kicked. These games are very underrated, but I wish they were not. The music and sounds are also very good, I love the jazzy tunes, the ambient sounds of the various levels, which the first game obviously had, but with the recent technological changes they sound even better. The characters feel very unique with their own personalities, some are not so friendly as others, but I still like them. Psychonauts games give the impression that it's a game for kids, and it is, but they are like Pixar movies in that they can be enjoyed by adults too, so if you can, absolutely buy this one. 10/10 for the sequel
This game is high budget cinema on the same level as Dreamworks, Pixar and any other studios who made groundbreaking animation in the last six years. This game has the craziest art, music, scenario, game design choices for the entire genre of platformer games. This game has a unique perspective on mental health issues with recognizable humor from Double Fine studio (thank you, Tim Schaefer).
Absolute love and respect for devs, original backers of crowdfunding campaign and also publishers (Starbreeze Studios and Microsoft) who (all of them) helped deliver this project as a finished title!
Psychonauts 2 is the adventure platform game with quirky story and charming theme of psychic spy at 1970 or 1980-year ish. Looks simple at glance but it is riddled with lots of feature that will confuse you at first but you will getting used to it when you play long enough.
The visual is amazing to me, it took effort to make it and it show when you find everything just click to the theme and find nothing weird about it. Music is good enough, raz is likeable guy and his ally are not just pebble on the road, kinda disappointed at the enemy but i guess because it rated for teen there are boundaries to be hold, understandable.
Overall good game to play, i'm satisfied with my purchase and i assure you this is not waste of money at any metric.
Really well made game with creative and unique levels and an interesting enough story. It got so many interesting Ideas packed into it that you'd think they'd run out at some point and then they just *don't*.

1. This is a comedic, psycological and a platformer type of game.
2. Boss fights are easy but you will die a lot when jumping on platforms.
3. This game is completely bug-free.
4. I think the story is good.
5. This game have lots of collectables to complete.
6. This game takes less than 30 hours to complete ( Main story + some side activities)
7. Would recommend buying this game on sale.

This has become one of my all time favorite games. Moving story, Beautiful visuals even when optimized for my toaster of a PC. The action is snappy and game play is addicting. The first one was already a masterpiece for it's time, but this elevates what was there 15 years prior to another level. Games like these prove that video games are a true art form.
fantastic game with a unique tone, humor and style all its own
This game is such a good sequel, it expands upon the abilities and how Double Fine refined the brain environments really goes to show how creative someone can get with making a level around someones brain and their inner turmoils. The platforming really gets a step up in this game is it is more creative with the new abilities you get under your belt. Not to mention the fact that the story itself is fantastic with twists that are well done as there are clues all over the place if you know what to look for. All in all a solid puzzle platformer that really pushes boundaries in how to tell a story in games and you really won't find much like it anywhere else

It's actually incredible that they were able to pull this off, an entirely faithful sequel over 16 years after the groundbreaking original. It's funny it's charming and it's just plain fun.

A fun collectathon with a good story and satisfying gameplay. A worth successor to the cult classic. If you loved Banjo-Kazooie or other similar games, you'll love this one.
