Asteroids on steroids

A wonderful arcade game! A mash up of several old-school ideas presented very well. The asteroids influence is very clear, but I'm also reminded of Bosconian and Time Pilot as well. I love the background music and personally use the Vector style graphics options. The controls take a little getting used to, but they really give the ship it's own feel to other twin stick shooters.

(I did fall asleep w the game on once, but I really have put double digit hours on this guy.)

Met the developer at a gaming convention! Really cool guy and game (especially since its a in-house engine!). Very adrenaline inducing.

If you loved the classic Asteroids games you should not hesitate. This is by far the best of its kind with many new features without loosing the spirit of the classic! Outstanding immersive gameplay, great visuals and hours of coop fun for up to 4 players. Many options to customize the controls and even the look of the game. There is not much that this game can do better, keep up the great work i can't wait for the final release!

Politely put, this game sucks @$$. Just don't buy it. It's cheap. It looks cool, and, "OOH, a new twin-stick shooter! My favorite!". Brother, or sister, or them or they or whatever you think you are, just don't. Really. Don't. I promise you'll regret it. No prejudice or victimization intended. You he she it they them will hate it.

If it was a finished game, I'd have a couple of minor grumbles. For early access, this is a fine asteroids variant. About as close to bullet hell as I'm comfortable playing, TBH.

Worst annoyance is that while you can customise most of the controls, the enter key (and that's actually the RETURN key) is hard-coded as pause. WTH? I have much better uses for that key than that!

Also, you can get the screen to stutter from time to time if you blow enough stuff up at once. I wouldn't expect to see performance that bad on a modern computer - not for a game this simple. Not a show-stopper but ought to be fixed. Couple of typos/misspellings here and there.
But it's perfectly playable as-is, so I'm happy to have it in my collection.

A modern day Asteroids clone, very challenging but fair. Can't wait for the full release.

I have been playing this off and on for about 3 years. Seeing the massive updates, option upgrades, graphic changes, etc. has been really amazing.
This seems like a finished product, not a beta or early access... and then it updates and (unlike many other updates) you realize that they found a way to improve on something that was already great and retain the things you liked! You have even more things to explore or try out!
When the twin stick came out I was FINALLY a bit more competent and it transformed from a PC simulated arcade game to a modern console version.
I still play PC most of the time, but I had the opportunity to see the developer (THIS GAME WAS/IS MADE BY ONE GUY!) at a game convention in Idaho (I planned the trip in advance to see up and coming talent) and he had multiple big screens and consoles setup. There were 4 people playing on each screen and a crowd of people cheering!
I took my turn playing with others and, no matter the skill level of the other players, had a great time in coop.
This is a super high graphic arcade style game. A true homage to Asteroids.
Incredible physics (or mechanics?) that lend the feel of momentum and the need to get better at controlled drifting or thrusting dynamics.
I saw another review (the only negative one I've seen) that complained about it being unnecessary in 2021. If you only played it for .2 hours (POINT TWO HOURS) and don't like it, was it really worth a negative review?
Without comparing this to other early access games, it still is an amazing game that has a developer that actually responds to the feedback he receives quickly, and has figured out ways to implement OUR ideas to make the game even better FOR US!
Full price, it's worth it. If you can get it on one of his sales, don't pass it up!

Solaroids is a fast, fun, solid iteration on a well-established formula, and gets a lot of things right:

• Difficulty: It's easy enough for a kid to pick up, but with a reasonably high skill cap. For perspective: beating the initial 10 levels would be considered a "good" run, and would be maybe 2,000,000 points. The current global high score is nearly 600,000,000!
  
• Controls: The controls feel just right, and there are multiple control schemes available depending on your preference. Personally I like the "twin stick shooter" style the best.
  
• Replayability: It's an arcade-style game that lacks a progression system, but the daily/weekly/monthly/global leaderboards are enough motivation to keep coming back for another game.
  
• Features: The set of features and content isn't extensive, but all of the gameplay elements it does have are polished (especially by Early Access standards) and cohesive. None of them seem extraneous or half-baked.
  
• Graphics: The display options are a nice touch. Options include original sprites, vector graphics, and CRT emulation that can be added to either mode. While not yet finished as of writing, the vector graphics mode is my personal favorite so far. It's also fun to just mix up the options between games to add some variety.
  
• Destructible ship components: Picking off turrets and missile launchers from enemy ships is satisfying, and also adds a bit of strategy: it gives you the option to prioritize disabling their weapons as quickly as possible rather than completely destroying them one at a time.
  
• The game is clearly a labor of love, and the developer is responsive to player feedback. More on that later.

Awesomely fun game. Vector mode is so nicely done! Feels like a cross of many of my favorite arcade games, Star Castle, Asteroids Deluxe, and Sinistar. Very well done twin stick shooter that's a great addition to my collection.

Fantastic reflex blaster, coin-op style. You know exactly what to do on your first go. Enjoying this game requires no nostalgia, And yet it is loaded with retro charm. Its simple, fast and exhilarating. Very Eager for full release, WELL worth early access.

This is a great throw back with some modern twin stick controls you should try out, even if you're a hardcore fan of the classic.
As always, its better with friends. we need more couch co-op like this.

What a great game. So simple yet SO satisfying. Being an old and cynical gamer, its nice to have something as good as this to break up the monotony that is today's gaming market. Easily worth the asking price(and more). Thanks Kiates.

This game is fantaaastiiic, buy itttt...It's arcade style and nice smooth control with xbox controller... Best cake when eaten too! Eat it!!!! Add more features :) I ask for upgrade of AI on my ship please, for auto defense and idle features for my ship so that it can become even bigger and maybe eventually become a station etc...

I'm an instant fan. Plus I'm only out $5 (50% off sale). Back in the day I could spend a hell of a lot more quarters on the original in the same amount of time at the arcade. The multiple controls layout is also a nice touch. Apparently this is still an early access game but the only reason I can tell that is because it says so on the store page. Feels like a well polished, complete game to me. I'm not sure what else they could put in here to make it even better. Maybe a story mode or something? Maybe steal some tech from the future and make it 3D with full AI enemies and allies on a quantum processor PC? And it still only cost $5... Ok, maybe not the last bit, but this game is good. Take my money!

Pretty fun little arcade shooter. You can play twin-stick or the same controls as the original Astroids game for more challenge. It's nice that each player can pick which type of control they like best. My son likes classic and I like twin stick, we had a blast playing local multiplayer. I'd say give this a go, well worth the money, graphics are great, music is great, sound effects also great, just a fun game to play.

If you like astroids type games, you will love Solaroids! It is a really smooth play, and there are many settings that you can tweak and change to adjust the game play/view the way you want. I also think the soundtrack is high quality and enjoy listening to it while I play. The local multiplayer mode is fun for families, -my kids enjoy the game too! Solaroids is still in early release, but the solo developer keeps us posted about the updates he is making and the plans he has to improve the game, including a story, and more grapics etc. He is also very open to suggestions, which I appreciate. I would definately recommend the game if you like to shoot things in space. It is surprisingly fun, and polished in the game play. Give it a try!

A space game that follows the laws of physics. The controls feel great and it is a fun time to play. The soundtrack is also amazing. Just don't run into asteriods.

Wow this game is a absolute masterpiece. I have played all types of asteroid type games since the original but this is by far the best. I have only been playing for less than an hour and I am totally blown away. I love the feeling of expansiveness. I love the hit and run tactics. The power ups are awesome and dont fade off too quickly ( you can chase them down if they go off screen) It has a worldwide leaderboard. There are multiple control types. The enemies look great and vary in strategy. Solaroids ticks all the boxes for me.

Recommended for Asteroids and shooter fans - you can just use classic controls to start with but will need to assimilate the extra controls to do well - looking forward to the updates, especially the option for plain starfield classic background !

Solaroids is a game that echoes and calls back to earlier years. Advancing on the concept of Asteroids/Maelstrom and taking it further. Challenges, local multiplayer and well planned upgrades and enemies make this game replayable, challenging and fascinating. There's so many ways to do things so well, and so badly...worth checking out for sure.
