The Evil Within 2 is a significant improvement in terms of gameplay compared to the first game, but its story feels lacking. I had expected to see more of Rufus, as opposed to the fairly bland villains in this one. Still, for fans of survival horror, it’s a solid choice if you can grab it at a discounted price.

this game is a improviment over the first entry, is far easier and less fustrating too. the graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is fluid compared to resident evil games. The story is a little cliche but pretty much easy to undestand compared to the first game, and enjoyable, worth a lot this experience, go buy it, you are not going to regrete
More gameplay mechanics and variety than the first, but so far I feel like the horror meter went down from the previous one, a little bit.
I love The Evil Within, and in my opinion, the original is always better. However, The Evil Within 2 is still a good game, despite its flaws. I didn’t enjoy the first part of the game set in the The Last of Us + Silent Hill-inspired town, where you have to do side quests. I’m not sure why, but it didn’t appeal to me much. What I did enjoy was the latter part of the game, particularly the Theodore boss fight. I loved how it brought back major bosses from the first game, like the Sadist, the Keeper, and Laura. The Myra boss fight was also a highlight for me.
7/10 for me.
Steam needs to fix this, I was playing on my controller and it was working fine, but about an hour in I started getting go no inputs almost soft locking myself out of certain situations. I even tried to switch to my keyboard the inputs just were not going through. I had 2 and half hours of progress unsaved, I made it back to the safe house, sat down for the projector and the buttons just stopped working, specifically the I needed to stand back up which is B. I had no choice but to quit to title screen and lose 2 and half hours of progress because of one button. This is an amazing game and I would love to play it and finish it through, but not on this platform.

This is a wonderful continuation of the first game. The only warning I would give is that the horror is not to the level that it was in the first game. That is not to say that there isn't wonderfully horrific scenes, twisted images, and nightmarish sets because there are. However, this overall plot, at times, feels like it is in an action game that is happening within a horror game. Overall, I would highly recommend this game to both lovers of horror and fans of the first "Evil Within".
one of the best horror games Ive ever beaten. Here everything is perfect for exept of perfomance.
so as I understood the game only manages to use 2 of your cpu cores, so you wont get over 100 FPS even if you have RTX 4090 (my specs are - r5 5600, RTX 4060, 40 GB RAM and the game was on SSD). In conclusion I reccomend this game to any horror lover BUT you shall beat The Evil Within 1 First cuz you wont understand anything
There's some quality gameplay in here, but getting to it through the asinine by-the-numbers story elements and dodging rickety bug riddled systems isn't quite worth it. None of the characters are worth caring about, and the incessant cloying for sympathy gets really tired about 2 hours in.
If it was just a silly gory romp through the game world I'd love it but the fact that the game spent 12 hours trying to convince me it was more clever than it actually is was insulting and grating.
You can do better than Evil Within 2.
The Evil Within 2 is in my top 10 survival horror games of all time. I played it 7 years after it released and it still holds up. If you're a fan of horror this is a game you can't miss.

Same as the first game but it does that squeal fashion of "Oh it's happening again BUT there is a new plot point we never brought up" type thing now, and still things don't make any sense like in the first one Sebastian wasn't even involved at all in Stem and now he is? like why couldn't this be about another person going into Stem, the game still has unanswered questions like what happened to Leslie? what happened to Joseph? and why did they kidnap this random ass girl that is coincidentally the fucking detective's daughter at a police station? who is the nurse lady? and why can't they just kill the fucking villain in the real world if their having problems with them?
There's a bunch of forgettable side characters like there's this annoying ass "badass so tough, bitch talking" girl that you meet for 5 minutes and dies and Sebastian is acting like she's known her for years and has done nothing to the plot
Even when Bethesda produces stuff their products are always effected by bugs, it's like a curse

A spectacular downgrade compared to the first game. The first one wasn't a great game by any means, but it had its moments and charm, and wasn't boring to go through.
TEW 2 is just bad.
The story must be one of the dumbest stories ever in a piece of media. The main character is just plain stupid, and he is a police detective hahaha. He also just doesn't shut up. The game is riddled with neverending long a$$ cringy cinematics.
The villains are totally original though. An art student, an evil priest, and a corrupt evil secret government agency that wants to take over the world. Never seen them before.
Gameplay-wise, the stealth is fine. The guns are a step back from the original. They are peashooters and unsatisfying to use (except for the upgraded revolver, which packs a punch). All the shotguns are the most pathetic shotguns I've ever seen in a video game. Enemy AI is non-existent, you can just walk around a box and stealth kill them from behind. They lose sight of you as soon as you move just 2 meters away from them. They also added long animations for every move and interaction, making the game very sluggish.
The game is now open-world (of course), which completely annihilated any potential for thrilling moments. You go around a map and kill everyone. Two chapters later you are back in that map, but now it's on fire, with fiery enemies. What a thrill.
Do not recommend. Just play the first one, or don't and skip the franchise.
Even better than the fist game, this game is a legend. Has some slight stutter issues though. Other than that, this game is amazing and I've never seen any horror game with an atmosphere similar to the atmosphere of this game.
I like that it has a lot of flashbacks from the first game too!
Awesome game, i would really recommend anyone who's a bit into the horror/story shooters to try this. (compare it to RE:Village bug the atmosphere of this game is IMO slightly better).
I didnt play the first part and i have to admit there is somewhat of a gap in knowing whats all the "real world" story is. But it didnt really bother me durring my playthrough since its still very engaging. The villians are very well done, good showmakers. and what i could really appriciate is that it feels like the game has multiple phases, turning the world in a completely different theme.
it almolst feld like after each phase you would go into a completely different game (or at least a DLC version of it).
The ending was a bit fast, but with good reason.

Tatiana, the beloved nurse of all gamers, is the one who brought the calmest presence to the chaotic and terrifying world of The Evil Within. Let's be honest, she was the sole reason we kept returning to the safe haven of the mirrors.
Picture this: you're fighting off terrifying demons and zombies, and suddenly Tatiana appears with her soothing voice and calm demeanor. "No problem, just relax a bit." Those few words could dispel any fear. She is the light shining in the darkness of the game's horrors.
Not only are her medical skills unmatched, but she also has the ability to maintain a sense of humor and light-heartedness even in the toughest situations. Truly, without Tatiana, The Evil Within would have felt like an endless nightmare.
I sincerely hope that in the third installment of this game, we will once again witness the amazing presence of Tatiana. I eagerly await another encounter with her warm gaze and calming voice. Shinji Mikami, please hear our plea and bring Tatiana back!

This is a decent action-horror game with an alright story. I personally prefer the first game as I felt its atmosphere and survival horror elements were much better, but this sequel isn't bad.
The Evil Within 2" is like attending a haunted house where every room has been meticulously crafted by someone who really wants to see you scream...in delight! 9.5/10

Did gunplay/combat better than the original game but the horror element was a lot less prevalent in my opinion compared to the original game, leading to a less suspenseful experience, which the original game handled masterfully.
Story and ending were quite a bit more satisfying than the original game.
Overall the game is what I would consider "okay" at best, which is similarly how I felt about the original game.
Beautiful game. I've played through several times over the years and its always fun.
It was better then I thought. May not be that scary of a game nor graphics hasn't aged super well but a fun and great heartbreaking story. What scared the crap out of me playing through the game was the box that fell down form the shelf.
A sequel that has no right being as good as it is. Why can't we get a third game?
Not my type of horror game personally. However, it was pretty good and I was invested into the story. I'd just rather have more jump than survival in my horror games personally.

Maybe its the first-person view, or the semi open-area environments, but this sequel was miles better than the first one. One of the finest action survival horror games I've played. 4/5 green gel.

Yeah this was worth a revisit, the engine has some funky bugs even now but at least it's not as bad TEW1 was where you even today 2024 need console commands to make the game work bit better because buggy vsync implementation.
Nice third game bait at the very end but I doubt we'll see that one since it has been so long since TEW2. And hopefully less open world memes next time, or at least put some more content to it than resource/upgrade hoboing, bit more side quests would have been nice.
Ended the game on Nightmare difficulty 8 Hr 51 mins. all I can say this game has a good story and game mechanics.

Amazing game and a tear jerking story i recommend to anyone who plays horror games
It's waaaaaay better than the first game in my opinion. The story is better, the weapons look better, I like the character's more etc. I only really have 3 nick-picks with the game: 1 is the enemy design isn't as good as the first game's, I like the more gritty, gory and abstract looking enemies in the first game more, 2 is the level design wasn't as awesome as some of the set pieces of the first game, Union is a cool location don't get me wrong but I do prefer the destroyed city and the creepier locations in the first game more. And 3rd is that the first person view when aiming a gun is one of the worst I've ever seen in a game. If they made the aiming up position the default then it would be perfect (for handguns) and showing more of the gun for the two handed weapons than it would be perfect. It's still easily one of my favorite horror games ever 28/10
Amazing, and truly cinematic. They did open-world so right with this game, and fixed essentially everything wrong with the first game. Still love these two games, even years after they've come out. A real tearjerker towards the end. Perfecto

Suite bergamasque (L. 75) (French pronunciation: [sɥit bɛʁɡamask]) is a piano suite by Claude Debussy. Good on the first difficulty, despite the inconvenience*, it's balanced on first difficulty, like the first part, only more pleasant graphics and controls and plot - i am not hooked by the absurd surrealism with abstract despite the science fiction mysticism cinetmatic 3rd-person immersive shooter, game process with some tactics with different weapons and using the location, because it is unclear how the character survives in such conditions and with bosses with such abilities and it is not interesting because of its tasteless illogicality. But the game has a clear and win-win motivation and desire to reveal the plot and conspiracy with many good cutscenes and rescue the characters and the world from the bad guys with a few very dramatic moments. The characters look good and they fit and they are normal, today, unfortunately, this also needs to be emphasized. The characters are good, have good qualities. The game is not stretched, there is navigation.
*Realistic, pleasant, but excessively implausibly slow controls and collecting ammo and resources, which are more in this part, opening doors, EVEN DURING A MORTAL FIGHT, slowly as if you are afraid to wake someone up (when will these idiotic phenomenons end?!), you need to wait a few seconds for each broken box so that the character agrees to pick up the loot, aiming weird in places and strong ballistics. And it is even better to download the save and play on ng+ so that you can enjoy a more realistic game, and not waste time on pumping and on squatting stealth.
The harder level is implausible, you react, but lose and run again, having studied the speed, amount, trajectory, attack range and capabilities of enemies in comparison with the speed of your character, because it is different from what you are used to in life or another game. And on the first difficulty you will have time to survive and plausibly win, and not die and run again having studied the timings, which is very boring and breaks the plausibility, especially if you are a skilled player, you will not be interested in replaying through no fault of your own, because you react, and the character is slow and the game deceives you by catching you by surprise, which is implausible and leads to an unfair loss. The game should be based on human capabilities, not on replay, harder level too. The game is primarily for enjoyment. Even in chess every step is progress and the main interesting meaning, simple banal, but at the same time deep and important, meaning with deep entertaining gameplay, there is a plot with interesting characters, etc. In the game Snake, every step is progress. There is no meaning, but there is progress, no replaying and marking time, no stupidity. Mario, etc. Add to them a cinematic and realistic look and control, you have a hit. Realism should not be against plausibility, slow does not mean realistic feeling, it is a dull feeling. Implausible, stupid, pointless, cartoonish, discrepancy, unpleasant = boring.
As i wrote in the previous part, saving progress and skills is done inventively, and is not just a function detached from the plot. But I really didn't like that if you missed a slide in the previous chapter, you can't go back for it. As well as a sniper with a flamethrower that needs to be collected in parts. And even if you download save file, you won't see some things. You can see them on YouTube, but firstly, you don't know about the existence of these things, and secondly, the product should be self-sufficient, i shouldn't have to look for something on YouTube or Google.
Recommend at discount, there are many games, often disposable if you finish them at all, there are downsides. And in principle, the price of the game should be low. On Gog, where you buying the game and not rent it for an indefinite period.
I was also surprised that the poster was made well and the painters chose colors that were safe to use, red and white - a win-win combination, a sense of quality, while in the game itself, as in the first part, there is periodic unpleasant orange-yellow lighting.
Great game, but less scary than the first game. Nonetheless, I have a nice experience playing it with a good story.
our hero Seb is an idiot. a total buffoon. he forgets simple concepts almost immediately and has to constantly repeat the same questions over and over. youll see a plot point and guess the twist immediately, but Seb will be shocked at the revelation hours later.
"is this real or all in my head?" he ponders several times. honey its all in your head, did you forget you were put into a brain dream machine that sends you to a 100% mental world.
"how is this possible??" he wails at the improbable ghost nonsense happening around him. Seb baby its all imagination nightmare stuff. youve been through this before, remember?
"who are you???" he murmurs at the nurse, the same nurse he talked to hundreds of times during his previous adventure.
Seb is a dumbass and i love him. the game is fine i guess.
Great story line. MUST PLAY
At first I was really into it but just lost interest the further I got 🤷🏽♂️
I don't often play the survival horror genre but this game really got me re-thinking my video game preferences. The last game like this I played was the Resident Evil 2 remake (which I also enjoyed) but the scarcity of resources and unexpected enemy attacks always put me off. The
Evil Within 2 therefore surprised me with how well balanced it actually is. Watching IGN's review of the game made me initially thought this was some difficult AF survival game where you're always running low on resources. But that isn't true. The game wasn't as hard as I thought. Resources are aplenty given the non-linear scope, and most enemy encounters can be cheesed away with stealth kills. Still, the game puts itself together with a wonderful format of both a mix of open world levels and linear levels. The game does however re-use the same levels multiple times, which seems pretty lazy to me, but even the same levels don't remain the same when you return to it. The nature of STEM also allows for fun horror elements to play out you'll only find in your wildest dreams and rapid changes in the environmental variety as you can find yourself in something like a jungle then in a icy landscape the next chapter.
The horror aspect is another rather well-done part and I loved the unique boss fights here, an aspect that seems only doable by the Japanese for some reason... (do western devs have no creativity or something?). But the game splits itself a little all over the place with more than one villain. Without spoiling too much, after the first half of the game or so, the horror aspect wears off quite quickly as the level themes changes to reflect the new villains that pop up. I also find it funny Sebastian can battle all the enemies merely by using bullets but whatever, it's a Resident Evil thing I suppose.
Apart from these complaints, the game is really solid irregard-less. Combat is fun. Stealth, while a bit too easy most times, never really gets tiring thanks to the brilliant kill animations. And the story is one long but satisfying journey to the end as Sebastian fights tooth and nail to get his daughter back no matter what.
Pros:
- Great open level design mixed with non-linear parts along the way
- Horror is uniquely great... at the beginning up till first half...
- Combat is fun and well balanced
- Decent single player length
- Satisfying closure to Sebastian's story (I hope, pls let the poor guy have peace already)
Cons:
- Stealth can make most enemy encounters way too easy
- The scare factor kinda wears off after the first half of the game when the intrigue disappears
- Story is a little all over the place with multiple villains and the mid-portion feels a bit tacked on
Overall score - 8/10

Better than Evil Within 1, less janky, more polished.
More streamlined for better or worse. Better things are more consistent and work as you'd expect. In a way too gamey I guess? Simplified.
Combat feels like a mix of RE4 with stealth. Plot a bit more on the serious side though. Worth whatever I paid for it 3-4 years ago.

If the first game was genuinely good with some problems, this one sadly is a legit disapointment.
Reused assets with some makeup and blur, clunky gameplay; unresponsive and annoying gun play; a garbage "open world" dynamic in some segments; "metaficatation" of stealth, to the point you could pass this game as a "survival horror metal gear"; good intro, but trash segmented story that just goes downhill the longer you go; bonuses locked behind a bethesda account, and while classic mode was novel, so little limited saves on a game with high tendency to crashes even on good rigs made it really... yeah, i'm going to stop here, it's not worth it.
Actual regret in not picking the free version from epic.

probably the only review I've ever left for a game at least the only one i'll remember. i LOVED the first evil within when i played on console and thought naturally this one would be just as good but on PC. It had a rather slow start for my liking and i wasn't a huge fan of the open world exploration. Normally id be a fan of something like that but it didn't feel right for this game. I felt it was relying too much on exploring rather than telling a story like the first one did which was insanely good. i didn't HATE this game, maybe i'm just not the intended audience but the first game was SO much better. Maybe i just need to give it a second play through.
I personally like the game and have the game and all achievements 100% so yeah its a great game
