I'm not really sure if Trajectory is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they may not have credited all of the asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself.
Trajectory is functionally identical to literally hundreds of lazy Russian first person adventure asset flips (I don't think this one is from Russia but that's besides the point). A somewhat lazy effort of dumping a few assets onto a tired and overdone Unreal first person adventure game blueprint, with very little extra work done on it. One of the fingerprints of such games is the developer being too lazy to add customisable controls, and instead putting the controls in default text on one of the walls as you start. These guys never heard of immersion, obviously. It would be a fun joke to sneak into their house and stencil movement instructions onto their walls to see what they do when they wake up. Just kidding, but jeez, seriously.
You're a prisoner on a space station and weird things happen so you need to plod through low quality assets while you "play" the Unreal first person adventure game blueprint. Suffice to say there's no value in this for gamers. There's some badly accented voice acting though.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality which fits with the idea they weren't developed by the game creator... they look like they're "just reasonable enough" to go on sale as part of an asset pack. The issue of asset flipping aside, ultimately the quality of these assets is low and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience.
The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
This was designed primarily for VR (but it will work without a headset, not that anyone would want to try). The VR focus of the game is a major crutch here, because without VR, this compares poorly to professionally developed games. Developers must learn that while VR is great, if the only thing that makes the game great is the VR, then the game isn't great at all.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Trajectory didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game, trivial to get, but less than 26 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 7 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality game this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Trajectory has the laughable, eye-watering price of around $7 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
good game
Limited interactions, clumsy game play. I don't recommend purchasing this game.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift. VR Review Only.
If you're thinking of buying this game for the VR experience, then don't bother. VR does not properly work. As you may have figured out if you have half a brain, motion controllers do not work. But also keyboard & mouse or gamepad (Xbox One). In other words, no input method works correctly in VR.
The game does render to the VR headset. I did notice issues with light messing with the 3D effect, making it look blurry. No matter what I did, I was always centered wrong in this game in VR. Re-centering from Steam VR did not fix the issue. Trying the re-center option in the VR menu did not work well enough, as I was still too low to the ground.
You cannot start the game from the VR menu. You can't select any options in the VR menu. You can only re-center view. Once you're in there, you have to manually quit the game. You can't re-center outside the VR menu. Avoid going to the VR menu, even though it is tempting to click on that menu button, don't do it. You can select menu from the desktop view. You can start a new game.
So you start out and you say to yourself, this isn't so bad. Then you get your first mission. It says to go to the computer and input some information. Guess what? Yup, you can't. VR doesn't work.
Rate 2/10. I mean at least it started in VR. i don't think my computer was infected with viruses. On the other hand, I wasted 30 minutes of my life, along with the $3.59 USD spent on this game that doesn't work in VR. Can't even refund it as it's too late for me.
6.4/10 - Lab rat simulator 2077
Trajectory is quite a neat little game for its price. The graphics are beautiful, and the controls feel tight. A single sitting of the game is very short; but due to the many randomized missions with alternative solutions and easter eggs, there is a lot of replayability for the obsessive completionist, especially for those who want to hunt down every possible ending. The gameplay consist of a fairly large, though somewhat monotonous, variety of puzzles, platforming and similar physics-based challenges and some thematic mini-games.
All in all, while no masterpiece, Trajectory is competent compared to many other space-themed walking sims, and makes for a fine way to kill a few hours, particularly if you are looking for a game which you can play in short bursts.
This game isn't in my library I have no even played this game, WTF is happening to steam?
I didn't sort out how to interact and navigate within this game. I tried with the keyboard and mouse for a while to understand the gameplay, but ended up giving up shortly.
It feels buggy, not complete. a totally boring attempt, not recommend it.
Nice scifi adventure game. Sometimes chalenging and a bit weird but much to do. Lots of variety and even after play new things are found like strange vr-world and other planets to walk. Not perfect but Good grafik on most level and sound & music..
Poorly implemented throughtout. Graphics are not good, gameplay is not good and so on.
Honestly ...I thought it would be a good game , but ..number 1, I did not get anyone to answer or give me a tip on my queri ( stuck in reactor )..number 2 ...graphics and how things happen in the game need to be addressed......example ...in the cell room, as you're walking ( running ) along the wall as you go up the stairs to get into ather rooms , it seems like the wall its two parts and as you get closer ,it turns into an actuall wall......anyway , I believe the game is a one person endevour ( thums up for you ) but , in my opinion ...it needs work.......
The game has a very promising setting and description, but it fell short of my expectations. I found myself consistently frustrated while attempting to complete the missions given to me by the terminal. In one mission I was supposed to find a mop, but couldn't locate it anywhere. In another, I was supposed to pick up cargo with a drone. I spent 15 minutes bumping it through space trying to push it into a box, and when I did, nothing seemed to happen. The instructions and controls were unclear, and I didn't have the patience to figure out what I was supposed to do, because of my next point:
I am not a person that tends to get motion sick or suffer from eye strain, but as soon as I got into the game, my eyes begin to hurt - a dull, throbbing pain. I believe that this was caused by either the very high degree of motion blur, or something else about the graphics. I checked the options menu for a motion blur setting (there was none) and tried decreasing the graphics quality, but it didn't help. The only other time I've felt eye pain like this while gaming was when viewing the 3D setting of the Nintendo 3DS.
I played for 40 minutes hoping that the apparent eye strain would go away, but it didn't. This, combined with the frustrating gameplay elements, forced me to request a refund.
However, despite these complaints, I am still voting that I recommend this game. Why? Because the developer clearly put time and effort into it, and I've seen far worse things on Steam. I don't think it's worth the sale price of $10, but if it's on sale, give it a try if you're into space games. The concept of being an inmate on a space station was fun, and the game would have been fun if I wasn't in too much pain to play it.
