This is one of my favorite games, it's just oozing with style that holds up to this day. The platforming is tight, the music is phenomenal. The weakest points are the story and the combat. The characters i feel lack depth, I wish they were a bit more present. The combat is fine, but the takedowns and gunplay aren't always easy or engaging. Maybe that's a skill issue on my part. Regardless, the good greatly overcomes the game's shortcomings, and I'd recommend this.

The game frequently freezes during loading screens on modern hardware; I had to restart my pc several times as alt+f4 and Task Manager couldn't close the game. Unfortunately unplayable in its current state.

I would avoid, but worth playing if you can find a copy for the 360/ps3

This is a fun little parkour game, I'd definitely recommend it but be warned there are quite a few jumps or sections of levels that are pretty janky or tricky to get just right. Nothing impossible though, if you have a few extra dollars and want to play a unique game this is a good one to try. Excited to play the next one sometime!

AN UNDERRATED, LEGENDARY, AND IMPORTANT GAME



A beautiful, unique, and rich game that has stood the test of time. Every time I play this I always feel my stomach-drop at some points. I've been playing this game off and on for years, beaten it twice (contrary to what it says on Steam I've definitely played far more) coming back to it for a sense of comfort perhaps, the visuals are so beautiful this is genuinely one of the best looking games of all time. Not just visually but stylistically it has such a bold art direction that unfortunately the "remake" doesn't do much justice for. In fact I've gone more back to this game FAR more than Catalyst. The modding community is surprisingly quite rich, would recommend getting the "Mirrors Edge Map Manager" for some free unofficial DLC.

Overall the aesthetics and gameplay is completely unmatched in the current times, nothing has left such an artistic and emotional impact such as this game. There have been very little games that I think about constantly when I'm out and about. This game is a quiet juggernaut in the industry, and its a damn shame we haven't gotten a movie or anything such as a proper sequel for this game. Also its a damn shame we don't have soundtrack for this game on vinyl or CD! Maybe someday. Highly unlikely given the direction EA has been going these days.

Needs some tinkering (turn off physX, increase frame rate cap, increase FOV) in 2025. Let down by the dull combat sections and parts where the flowing freerunning is interrupted by having to stop to a standstill to interact with various parts of the environment but overall a fun game. There's also a good multiplayer mod so I completed this in co op.

While I would love to recommend this game I just .... can't.



I play through Mirror's Edge once every few years and I always seem to have great memories of it. The art style, the first person free running and the ability to chose some level of your own path is amazing. However, During my most recent playthrough the games problems became glaringly obvious to me.

The movement is supringsly clunky for a game that's designed around fluid motion. Fx why do I lose all momentum when I slide? why are the ledge and swing bar grabs so inconsitent? I died numerous times on the tutorial alone because Faith refused to grab the swing bar that phased through her head. Why can I get a slow or fast ledge pullup animation on the same ledge despite running at the same speed?
It all just results in incredibly frustrating gameplay bacuse you feel youre doing everything right but the game just doesn't want to do it.

A disappointment. I can see there's a good game here; when things go smooth it's beautiful and quite enjoyable. But...

Level design gets worse as you go on, with the correct paths getting way too obscure to identify forcing you to stop, when you should be running.
Combat's dreadful, and enemies are way too often unavoidable (I know they're not but in a first run where you don't know the level's layout this deluge of enemies and ensuing repeated deaths break the flow of the game).
Movement's clunkier than it should. Poles and stuff require your crosshair on them for you to grab them rather than your mere proximity and that's source of tremendous frustration.
Too much trial and error for a game whose focus is speed and momentum.

Aesthetically perfect though. Wish there were more games with this style.

Great levels and game play. Timeless graphics even for this generation!
It's easy to learn and master. Some glitches though such as Faith not grabbing onto pipes and slow down near the latter half of the game.

Tried to play this game a couple of times — first with a gamepad, then with keyboard and mouse. Sadly, it felt like my character was actively protesting every movement. Climbing didn’t work half the time, scripts didn’t trigger properly, and I kept wondering, “Am I doing something wrong, or is the game just messing with me?” The path forward was often unclear, and instead of feeling immersed, I just got frustrated. I understand this game means a lot to many, but personally, it just didn’t click with me.

A breath of fresh air

I don't know what the sole thing is about this game that does it for me. Of course, there's the amazing physical feats you can perform above the city rooftops, the movement in this game allows you to reach this flow state that does wonders for my dopamine receptors. But there's something more.

It's like that, plus the amazing ambient ost by Solar Fields, as well as the muted colours that emphasise the rare harsh reds, greens and blues, plus the dystopian world it's set in. I think it creates a feeling I've become very emotionally attached to. It's not nostalgia, trust me, I've only had this game a couple years, even back then i felt it. I also think it's because this game is so short too, as it leaves me wanting more, like a short glimpse into a world that's dying to have a greater story told in it.

НЕ МОЖУ ПОВІРИТИ ЩО Я ВЖЕ ДОГРАЛА! Гра сильно вразила своєю механікою та стилем, я не думаю, що зараз такі ігри взагалі випускають. Контекст спочатку трохи не зрозуміла, але з часом зрозуміла що до чого.
Іноді я готова була рвати волосся на голові, тому що десь зачепитись руками не виходило, десь не могла дострибнути, вмерла думаю разів 100+ точно ахаха
Але гра дійсно класна, гама кольорів, види та все загалом просто ням ням!!!

The game really impressed me with its mechanics and style—I honestly don’t think they make games like this anymore.
At first, I didn’t quite understand the context, but over time everything started to make sense.
There were moments when I was ready to pull my hair out—sometimes I couldn’t grab onto ledges, sometimes I couldn’t make a jump... I must’ve died over 100 times, no joke, hahaha!
But the game is absolutely amazing—the color palette, the scenery, everything overall is just chef’s kiss!

Pretty fun game, enjoyed the parkour, little hard to know to where to go at parts but finished, bit buggy nowadays, used Mirror's Edge Tweaker to fix the resolution for my screen, and a few crashes, but besides that lovely game <3

Played the demo on XBOX 360 back when it was released and really liked it. Feels unique, looks great for its age (especially on a 21:9 display with a few tweaks). Always liked parkour and acrobatics in games and this one delivered. Story and combat weren't great, but I had fun playing it, and that's what counts.

Note: This is one of my favourite games of all time. I tend to play it every 2 years or so and it pains me to be objective and not give it 5 stars.

Rating: ★★★★ - Great
Time Played: 3.3 hours
Difficulty: Normal

Gameplay:
• First-person parkour is the core mechanic. Fluid, kinetic, and satisfying when mastered.
• Momentum and precision is everything. Once you get the rhythm, chaining moves together feels fantastic however parkour and object collision isn't smooth at times.
• The learning curve is steep at first, especially for players used to more traditional FPS movement.
• Occasional combat feels clunky. Melee is awkward, and using guns breaks the flow of movement.
• Time trials and speedrun modes add replayability and challenge beyond the main campaign.
• Levels are mostly linear but allow some creative freedom in route selection.

Story\Dialogue:
• Minimalist plot set in a sleek dystopian future. Effective but not deeply developed.
• You play as a runner navigating a surveillance-heavy city delivering information off-grid.
• Dialogue is serviceable but occasionally flat. Characters are tropey.
• Story takes a backseat to the gameplay but does just enough to justify the missions.

Graphics\Music:
• Clean, sharp art style with heavy use of whites and saturated primary colours. Stands out even today.
• Visuals enhance the feeling of speed and direction without overwhelming you.
• Cutscenes use stylized 2D animation, which may not appeal to everyone but sets a distinct tone.
• Soundtrack is ambient and electronic. Fits the mood and enhances immersion during movement.
• Menus and Subtitles don't scale with the resolution and will look pixelated.

Before you Play:
• If playing on easy mode, recommend not firing any weapons except during the 'sniping the engine' mission for full immersion.
• If playing on medium\hard mode, make use of weapons during heavy combat scenes near the end of the game.
• You can turn off Runner Vision (the red highlights) after your first playthrough to improve your spatial awareness.
• Use trials mode to nail tricky jumps and wall runs. Timing and angles matter a lot.
• Play with a controller if Mouse + Keyboard feels too twitchy for movement finesse.
• Stick with it through the early frustration. The control scheme feels great once it clicks.

Recommended Fixes:
• Turn off any Overlays (Steam\Afterburner\Nvidia) before starting game if you have the brightness glitch.

I remember playing the Demo for this back on the PS3 in 2008. Finally, here I am. Man, this game looked so amazing to me at the time; and while nowadays it still looks good, it reminded me how astonished I was at PS3/360 games at the time. While the game still plays and looks fairly well, I don't think it aged all to good overall. There was moments where things just felt notably outdated. The story is pretty straight forward but felt a little rushed towards mid-end.
Back then, I also thought there was more in-game universe reason behind the aesthetic choice but after playing through the story that was lackluster as well. In the end, I'm glad I finally got to experience the game I always did want to play back then.

Ultimately I'd say give the game a try while it's on sale/affordable.

If you just want some fun movement and a game that you can turn your brain off and go with then Mirror’s Edge is not a bad choice. This game has a lot to it that I love but also some things I find tedious more than anything else. The combat while in my opinion not awful isn’t necessarily good either. I found I got the most enjoyment out of the combat when completely forgetting about Faith’s entire moveset and playing it like it was a rhythm game by constantly parrying. The gunplay is not very refined but it does work and it isn’t really a focus just an additional element. The movement is what I’d say is the best part of the game. Timing rolls or wall jumps can feel great but it can also be very janky. The game overall isn’t great at reading your intentions meaning you’ll be dying a lot to what can feel like unfair movement issues. It’s not a huge issue but my point again is that it can be very janky. I got lost more than I care to admit and it would mean I had to stand around and assess the environment while an enemy was beating me to death. The story wasn’t really gripping in any way, it wasn’t as bad as some people will claim but I quite literally started laughing at the ending. The ending also left me with more questions than answers the big one for me being what the point of it all was. The atmosphere and environmental design of the game are pretty immaculate. Elevators having text scroll past on a panel detailing propaganda will never get old for me. To close out, if you want a quick hit of some fast and fun movement this could very well be your game. Just don’t expect more than what you’re likely to get out of this. It’s a classic title and I do think it is a good game but I don’t think it gripped me while I was playing and I don’t think it’s likely to stick with me past this year.

i played this game for the first time in 2025 over a weekend because i picked it up on a sale and heard it was a classic

I thought the game had moments that were really cool, especially towards the end. In these moments I had movement nailed and I was moving fluidly through the game and feeling those parkour vibes

but I wish it was more of the game

too much of the game had enemies and all they really did was force you to memorize a layout or die and try again repeatedly... i found it difficult to flow and improv with the mechanics, at least the first time seeing a new obstacle or enemy encounter. this seems like the kind of game you play a dozen times if it clicks with you like that

writing and story had me interested at first and then it totally lost me because it introduces characters and then never builds them up... by the end of the game i didn't really understand a lot of the motivations of the main characters and factions.

then again, there was lore dumped throughout the game I mostly skipped, so maybe there was more there that I could've explored... and again, maybe if I really got into it I would've uncovered all this stuff on subsequent playthroughs

i guess the point i'm trying to make here is that I feel like this game has some really cool environments, great art direction, and some revolutionary ideas about movement in a first person game, so it deserves to be remembered for that.

like all good art I feel like it's gotta have people who really like it, people who bounce off it, and other people who look and appreciate. I feel like the last. I appreciate a lot about this game, but I also don't really want to play it ever again lol

highkey it's because i found a lot about movement awkward compared to modern games, and there was a few really frustrating moments where it really soured my experience overall. I enjoy challenge in games, but when I died it was usually from jank, so it was annoying vs. something I could learn from and improve with

i liked a lot of the ideas overall though, and when it was cool, it was really cool. I'd recommend you try it, especially on the cheap

This was a good game. Although old, it still looks pretty good. The parkour was fun, though I did find it frustrating a couple of times, though that was probably more a skill issue than anything else (played with a keyboard & mouse). The combat wasn't the greatest, though I did like the slow mo, and disarming people. The game could of done with being a bit longer, but that's more down to enjoying it and not wanting it to end.

I played solely with the Deck (connected to the TV), and it worked pretty much straight out of the box, though I did disable Physx as recommended by other users.

A game that came out back in 2009, and to this day it still manages to be one of my most loved.

I've played through Mirror's Edge about three or four times, and when "Still Alive" slowly creeps up on you in the last chapters, to the full song being blasted in the end scene, I just get hit with such a wave of nostalgic relief and wonder.

By today's standards, the game still looks beautiful! Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not made to be played in 4K resolution, seeing as the best you could achieve back then was 1080p, and it shows throughout much of the game. But my dear heavens, few games make me feel the way this one does.

Also, I just found out that you can pick up dropped guns from the ground. Oh, how I wish this was at least slightly hinted at back in the day, because playing the last chapter and not realizing that I could just slaughter through it, will haunt me for the rest of my time.

Mirror's Edge is a parkour based action game in which your sister has been framed for murder. The movement in this game is great, it's fun traversing the levels throughout the game, though the game is absolutely at its best when you're out on the rooftops. The combat isn't too great, and I spent most of my time running around the enemies any time I could. The voice acting in this game is incredibly bad, the story is not very interesting, and the game is only about 4 hours long. In my opinion, all of that can be overlooked because the game has a good grasp of what makes it unique, creating a fun and focused experience and not overstaying its welcome.

Only recommending this because the game itself is so good, the very best first person movement game ever made. However, getting it running well on Modern hardware, especially on an AMD rig is a pain and when you do finally figure it all out and get things going smooth, the game constantly leaves your window even with a tool that locks your cursor to the window, making it annoying and frustrating throughout.

If you have an Xbox, get it on there instead.

There are moments when Mirror's Edge is too frustrating for its own good, especially on modern PCs. Sometimes it doesn't react the way it reacted in other, very similar situations, leaving you to slide down a wall rather than jump off it. And the combat... Well, the less said about the combat, the better. But when Mirror's Edge works, it *sings*. And while I'm not as down on the sequel/reboot as others, the city from the original game feels so much more tactile, where Catalyst's city of Glass feels like a video game environment. God, I hope that we haven't seen the last of Mirror's Edge, and I hope that if it ever gets picked up again, they take at least as many pointers from the first game as from the second one - but next time? Skip the combat, 'kay?

I really love this game. The atmosphere and art design is incredible. Overall I really enjoy the gameplay but I recognize that at certain parts it kind of requires you to know exactly what it expects. I can forgive that because of the overall design, the music, and the vibes.

If you are the kind of person that gets upset with precise platforming in first person then don't play this. You need to go into it expecting a vibe, of running and being chased. If you are looking for 'challenging but fair' gameplay then you will be frustrated. There are so many times where I feel like I hit a certain handhold and fell to my death and it probably was just because I didn't hit the exact right direction. I forgive it because of the story but if you don't care about that then you will be frustrated.

This is the kind of game that I want. It's art driven and vibe driven. The 'sequel' is in the same boat. Love both of them and wish there were more games that took this kind of risk.

Mirror’s Edge is absolutely bloody phenomenal. It’s short, sure—but short and sweet. If anything, it’s the kind of short that leaves a mark. I wouldn’t have minded an extra chapter or two to flesh out the betrayal plotline a bit more, build on the side characters, stir in one more gut-punch before the end, but what’s here is already strong. I’ll be honest, I shed a tear when it wrapped up. If it had gone on just a little longer? I probably would’ve been in bits.

Opening up with the real showstopper, the movement. The game is built around it, every inch of the world shaped with flow in mind. It’s rare to see something this confidently gameplay-first. And that’s not a complaint—it owns it. This isn’t one of those cinematic, story-forward games that promises emotional immersion from the jump. It promised cool, first-person parkour across shiny rooftops, and that’s exactly what it delivers. The freedom to forge your own path, to improvise, to pull off some absolute madness that may or may not have been intended—that’s what makes it shine. I lost count of the times I got up somewhere and thought, “There’s no way that was the right route... but damn, that felt good.”

For something made in 2009, this thing holds up ridiculously well. The textures are raw and high quality, the architecture is beautifully minimalistic, and the visual language is clever without being overbearing. The color-coded environmental cues are a godsend in a game with such quick pace—you can’t slow down to analyze, so the game teaches you to read the world at full speed. It doesn’t hold your hand, either. There are no “Hint: Try this” pop-ups. It’s centered around figuring things out by failing, experimenting, and retrying. And that’s where the game really shines; it assumes you’re smart enough to learn.

Now, let’s talk about the combat, because, yeah, bit of a mixed bag.

It’s not bad, per se—it’s just not where the game puts its focus. That’s fine, until it suddenly does. Early on, it’s just “blues on you”, a couple of cops, maybe a quick scuffle, done. Later on... armored guards everywhere, a dozen enemies at once, and you’re expected to fight your way out. The issue is: the game doesn’t really train you for those scenarios. You don’t gradually build up combat skills as you would in other games—you just get dumped into the deep end. I wish it had more combat earlier to ease you into things, because the tools are there! The melee system has depth, it just hides it in favor for the masterful movement.

Being completely frank here, I didn’t even know I could counter melee attacks until I did it by accident in the Celeste fight. That moment of “Wait, I can DO that?” was cool—but also a bit of a design failure. The game doesn’t encourage you to discover that sooner.
That said, I do respect that it makes you think on your feet. It wants you to get creative. Enemies aren’t designed to be easy targets—they’re meant to make you duck behind cover, reposition, or just run. They were specifically designed to be batshit insane, purely to force you out outta your comfort zone and THINK before you act. The chase sequences reflect that.

When the game tells you to run, you run, and those moments bring out the absolute best in its systems. You’ve already spent the game learning tricks, getting faster, mastering momentum—and now you’re putting it all to the test, with actual stakes snapping at your heels. If anything, I wish these tense escapes were used more often to balance out the heavier combat sections. They tap into the game’s core better than any gunfight ever could.

Movin’ on, there’s something quietly brilliant about the way Mirror’s Edge balances puzzle-like movement challenges. You’ll hit a wall—sometimes literally—and not see a way forward. But if you think about it, recall your tricks, experiment a little? You’ll find a way, and you’ll feel clever doing it. Even the illusion of complexity works in its favor, as some sections feel impossible, but when you pull them off, you realize the solution was there all along.

You’ll be staring up at a ledge, no idea how to reach it, only to realise—oh wait, if I wall-run into a pole, quick-turn, leap off that box and kick-jump off that sign… yeah, that works. It encourages creativity without turning everything into a Rubik’s Cube. I never got stuck more than a few minutes, but every “aha!” moment felt earned, not handed to me.

And then there’s Faith. God, I love this character. She’s grounded, honest, and her whole mission is driven by something simple and human: saving someone she cares about. That emotional clarity makes it easy to root for her. She’s a good person in a bad system, just trying to do the right thing, literally nout wrong with that. You feel like you are her, not just controlling her, and it works so much better in tandem with those glorious animated cutscenes! They could’ve felt disconnected from the slick 3D gameplay, but they don’t. They expand Faith’s world and relationships without dragging down the pacing, and they blend perfectly into the game’s off-kilter, dystopian energy.

Speaking of dystopia… let’s talk worldbuilding.

There’s this haunting, dreamlike quality to Mirror’s Edge’s city. The bright colors and clean surfaces are almost too clean. Rooms are mostly empty. Streets are devoid of life. Where is everyone? The low-poly horizon—probably a limitation to save on processing power—ends up reinforcing the tone. You look out and see nothing but hollow, soulless structures. No cars, no people. Just sterile buildings stretching forever. It starts to feel intentional. Like the game knows it’s hollow. The world is hollow. And Faith is sprinting through that hollowness like she’s trying to outrun the void.

And the music... mate. The soundtrack is the final piece that ties this whole experience together. It’s dynamic, responsive, but above all—it’s got SOUL. During a chase, the drums kick in and your heart’s in your throat. But then, in the quiet spaces, something else creeps in. I remember this one moment in The Shard—you’re in a strange little vent corridor, the music slows, the beats hit at weird intervals, and it just feels like a dream. Comforting, eerie, nostalgic… I don’t even know how to describe it properly. All I know is, it stuck with me. And that final track, as you rescue Kate, pure catharsis. It wraps the game in relief, like a held breath finally let go.

As for replayability, I’m already eyeing those time trials. I haven’t even touched them yet, but I want to. That’s a good sign. The core mechanics are so strong, I don’t even need new content, just new ways to express them. Can’t wait to hop back in and delve deeper into mastering the flow!

Overall, let’s wrap this up. Mirror’s Edge doesn’t beg to be remembered—but somehow, it is.
Ignoring all the phenomenal aspects that theoretically should stand out, the single thing that keeps this experience in my mind, is how it feels to play. It carves out its own little space, where movement becomes instinct, and the quiet between footsteps says more than a cutscene ever could. Sure, it stumbles in places, but the impact it leaves is far cleaner than most games twice its length. It’s stylish, raw, strangely emotional, and when everything fades to black, you’re not thinking about what was missing, not at all. You’re thinking about rooftops, rhythm, and that fleeting feeling of being weightless for just a moment longer than you should be.

This game is unlike any other. This game gives off Portal vibes, but instead of teleporting, you parkour.
Everything about this game: level designs, music, gameplay, story, and characters are superb, and each of those elements complements each other very well. 10/10

This is what happens when you give developers creative freedom and let them pursue their passion.

A one of a kind must play.

Get Mirror's Edge Tweaks to set all the graphics options on modern systems and Mirror's Edge Map Manager for DLC and custom maps.Also one of the best showcase of PhysX, it is not supported on Proton but if you have the hardware for it you should go through the trouble of making it work.
