At first i didn't like how many damn buckets you have to use but everything in the game grew on me. it itches my need to clean things in video games. even with the jank physics its really fun and the fan made levels are peak.
Very fun and relaxing, if you're into games like Power Wash Simulator and others that involve cleaning somehow. It could really use a tutorial or even an opening document, however. I found myself confused on my first map on why I scored low [despite mopping everything, disposing of trash, etc] not knowing there was other details [moving crates to specific squares, welding bullet holes closed, etc] or how to do them. I had to look up a guide which told me about things I would never have guessed.
So overall, would absolutely recommend. But it very much would benefit from some sort of tutorial or an in-game guide document to nudge you in the right direction on what's expected and how to do well.
I love a good manual work sim, but good god this game is finnicky.
Surprisingly relaxing title considering what it contains. Some maps require you to do more or less depending on the setting, sometimes you just have to clean the blood and corpses, other times you'll have to pick up countless bullet casings and fix bullet holes, there are different map sizes and estimated times for completion which can range from 45 minutes to 3 whole hours or more. It's bound to enchant you (so long as you've got a powerful enough computer, when I played it on the laptop I had before my gaming PC it kept changing the resolution of the game as I was playing and it was so annoying I refunded it.)
If you're an old school Hollywood nut, you will certainly enjoy all the references.
this is a nice autopilot game
no no no not the autopilot as in "oh hey guys im tired and im gonna play this game"
no this is the game where you say fucking nothing for an hour straight with zero emotions on your face autopilot
this is the game for you if you wanna look like your fuckin dead
Very silly, fun, multiplayer game. Super fun if you're an OCD freak. Does contain a lot of blood and body parts, but i mean that's kinda the point of the game so. Controls are easy to learn, and there's ton's of maps to choose from. There is a few bugs ofc, but overall the game is really good. I highly recommend!
It's a neat game but to clean everything, or even complete levels, can be confusing and annoying. A single bullet hole or a footstep in the dirt beneath a shrub will fail the entire level and you will lose 3 hours of progress.
Fun game to do alone if you can stand the ''viscera''
All you need to do is be very precise and just ''clean up''
Yet what I love most about this game is the attention to ''detail''
a little hard to figure out but once you get the hang of it, its really fun. a very bloody but somehow calming game
The original cleaning game
Not that the newer ones are bad either
I found out about this game via MasterGir and hollowtones through their streams together on Twitch. I love a good sandbox game, especially one that I can play while listening to a podcast or audiobook, and this game is perfect for that although the original soundtrack is great too! The macabre twist makes it even more My Brand lol.
My only real problem with the game comes down to its performance. I do have a Mac laptop from 2013, which doesn't help with lag, but even when watching others' streams it's clear that consistently the physics are a little crazy to the extent that in co-op mode you can easily glitch into the other player in a way that kills at least one of you. This latter could be frustrating if you're spent a lot of time getting your office organized and all the rooms unlocked. There also isn't much Mac support (including no achievements), so I've played for much, much longer than the 6 hours reflected on my account.
However, I play co-op rarely enough that this isn't a dealbreaker for me, and I think overall the game mechanics, environmental design, satirical theme, and satisfaction of a job well done make up for anything else. I really enjoy this game and will definitely support the sequel!
Very fun game, albeit the physics can be very janky at times, which seems even more apparent in multiplayer. Sometimes the sniffer detects something that I just cant see and/or get rid of, but with console you can get rid of those things easily no problem. And using console doesn't disable achievements either which is very helpful due to the aforementioned janky physics. Besides that, the game has a charm to it that I can't quite describe, but I absolutely love, bugs, quirks and all.
Cleaning up the messes made in the shooter games I enjoy is somehow very satisfying :) Join in the clean up crazy!
A really fun game. Even though it's just cleaning, there are so many different elements in this game that make it cool. If you have friends it's still fun to play with 2 or more people
The combination of dark humor and pop culture references, as well as the appeal to my autistic need to explore every crack and crevice of every level to find all of the secrets, is very much approved.
Boy oh boy this game is fun! My friends and I played it, and LOVED it! I truly recomend this game, if you are looking for a fun, and cheap game to play with your friends! This is one of my favorite games, I can acually play! My computer, is very bad, and I can't run many games on it..... ALTHOUGH, I CAN PLAY THIS GAME!!! Please buy this game!!! You won't regret it!
A great game for people with large amounts of time to kill, and and obsession with perfection. There is a variety of achievements to complete, as well as plenty of levels to play(though it is important to note most levels are the same game play loop in different settings)
There is a good amount of world building in the various levels that really shows bits and pieces of the corporate dystopia that makes up the setting of the game.
The game is an experience to complete being fun and interesting at times, and tediously painful at worst.
I would recommend bringing friends if you value your time.
Cleaning Sim with a lot of Gore.
The best you'll get out of this Game is to just chill with a Friend on a Map for 2-3 Hours.
13 bucks is pretty cheap considering how many maps there are, who just eat Time away like its nothing.
10/10
The perfect game to play while listening to a long video essay, podcast, or stream in the background. It's fun, relaxing, and satisfying.
I heard about Viscera Cleanup Detail through Crime Scene Cleaner which is my favorite cleaning game. I had been looking for something that scratches the same itch and Viscera Cleanup Detail does hold up to my expectations. The gory space setting is interesting and unique enough to elevate this game above “chore simulator.” There isn’t as much story here as you get in Crime Scene Cleaner and I wish there was, but you do still discover more about the places you clean as you pick up items that were left behind.
The maps look distinct from each other and offer enough variety to keep it entertaining. Personally, I think this game looks pretty good for being 10 years old. If I didn't know any better, I would've thought it's more recent than that.
What I did not like was the complete lack of tutorials. It makes for a steep learning curve. I was thrown into my first cleaning mission completely blind and had no idea how anything worked. The game offers no guidance whatsoever. When I finished my first mission, I felt confident that I had cleaned everything there was to clean, but I only got 88%. If I hadn’t looked it up online, I never would’ve figured out that there were bullet holes in the concrete walls that I was supposed to weld shut, as one does, with what I assumed was a “neat space weapon” (actually a plasma welder). Or that there are stacking areas to organize cargo... which may be my least favorite activity because it feels so precarious.
Once you read a few guides online and figure out how the tools work, it gets easier and more enjoyable. This is a good game to come back to whenever I want a mindless activity to keep me busy.
Arrive at a disastrous loss of human life. Rage against the filth. Clean for the company at minimum wage.
You get to the job site, marvel at the horrendous sights and prepare to clean as you have never cleaned in your life: with your futuristic mop, the friendly incinerator, your trusty boombox to give you jams and a desire to cleanse the world.
Excellent game to turn off your brain and relax. Clean messess, stock crates, write reports, steal that shiny collectible or that disembodied arm for your dark collection back in your quarters, and aim for that 'employee of the month' each time.
Unravel secrets and learn about the world while at it via notes left behind... or just burn it all and go to bed to work another day.
You can clean your real room after you finish a map... or two.
I really enjoy it. It's a fun game if you're just wanting to do something on the side while watching something or talking to friends!
Tedious mind numbing fun if that is what your into. But I can't recommend it with how punishing it is and how easy it is for bugs to soft lock a level. It can take 1 to 4 hours to clear a level solo and the physics engine is so buggy it is easy to glitch items blocking the incinerator and blocking progress. There is also no respect for your time as it does not give clear instructions in the game and one wrong move can undo hours of work. Could be fun if it respected the players, but I cannot recommend a game that doesn't respect my time. It's okay for games to be punishing, but not okay for that punishment to come without warning or from bugs. 0/10, pass this one by.
Great for when you want to relax and just wind down. Put some music on and just clean. It's multiplayer, though I've never played with anyone else, I'm sure that would make it even better. Super chill and very fun. If only I could be this motivated to clean my own house
Camera is not centered. Makes it nearly impossible to see where you're dropping things. Plus having to pick up debris one object at a time is needlessly tedious.
I don't understand the high reviews. This is like a jankier version of all the other cleaning games, made interesting by the novel scenery... but even that scenery is really poorly optimized.
Controls are janky and just terrible. The whole feel of the game is terrible.
This game is 10 years old... but it feels so unique and one of a kind. It's relaxing if you play for a short period of time. If I play for hours at a time I usually start to get stressed. It has many levels which takes 1-3 hours to complete. Once you learn more about the game you'll be quicker. Longest level for me was almost 5 hours (but that's because I was very inefficient) ... but there's a save feature so you can pickup from where you left off.
This game is nothing like the copy paste cleanup games of today that all use the same engine and feels the same. This engine isn't the same. Play this if you want a break from the normal house flipper, Power wash, etc games that all use the same engine.
Awesome game, did all levels and all achievements, i loved every second, besides from the whole level of Penumbra, stacking crates when they keep moving, same with barrels.}
every level with a new theme, new mechanics, new items, unique items. i loved collecting lot of the items from the level and pimping out my office, getting all secret items and bobs corpse was awesome.
something about this game just clicks in my head, going into a place and cleaning up a ton of mess in quick succession. using buckets and bins to remove all viscera, laugh at funny names, and collect the body's of random workers from the site.
overall, 9/10, loved the game, kinda sad there isn't more but, i enjoyed the time i had with this game, and loved it all.
Destroying the fucking stereo in each level brings me more joy than 100% cleaning an office or science lab
Are you tired of the same old horror spiel that goes into modern games? Have you ever wanted to fill out a mountain of paperwork while tediously explaining and going over details about horrific Sci-Fi Scenarios ranging from Rouge Robots to Alien Entities? Maybe you just want to clean up after somebody else when the horror has already happened simply because you want to vibe while cleaning along with taking whatever notes you want to put in. If any of those things sound appealing to you, this is the game for you.
Become a janitor for Aerospace Sanitation Inc. and do just that, clean up after odd situations all the while filling out a PDA with notes of all kinds to your own heart's content. Take as long as you need to clean an research station, a desolate industrial facility, or something else entirely. Heck you can even explore various other maps made by other folks using the unreal engine if you get tired of the base content. What are you waiting for, start cleaning today! [Insert 10 Pages of Aerospace Sanitation Inc.'s Company Disclaimers Here]
ive always aspired to give zero craps while cleaning up the worst science or medical negligence known to man all while theres some deep plot for the group of janitors. honestly 10/10
love this game when i need to just relax and do fuck all! real stress reliever!!!
game info reads it works on mac; but does not work on m2 mac for me. the game opens in a strange window mode and i see a zoomed in menue. the mouse cursor is visible but doesn't work correct. it overshoots and does not correctly move on the x- and y-axis. every attempt to click on anything fails. just beeing in the menue seems to draw alot more recources from my system than other games that run smoothly. re-installing didn't help. so my guess is it's not actually for silicon macs.
so far i've been taking twice as long as expected but i'm having the time of my life ^_^ i <3 going at my own pace AND BLOOD AND BLOOD AND BLOOD
Tons of levels, each one taking multiple hours to complete and in different settings, with lots of references to movies and games.
Viscera Cleanup Detail is a fun game to play with friends or listen to something in the background if going solo. For a decade old game, it holds up on the fun factor and looks decent (recommend it on sale).
That being said it's a shame the game runs poorly by default. To get the most out of the game (and its expansions) you'll need to manually adjust the fps. Go to go to steam\steamapps\common\viscera\engine\config\BaseEngine.INI (or from your library-properties-installed files-browse). Open this file with Word or Notepad and search for the following:
bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
MinSmoothedFrameRate=166 (game will bug if this goes beyond 166- adjust to your liking)
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=166 (game will bug if this goes beyond 166- adjust to your liking)
Now save the file and upon reopening the game you'll have better fps. Many thanks to Churo Zan for posting this in a Steam forum.
Lots of people only know this game for being tuber-bait, which is a shame because this game is actually incredibly relaxing and ahead of It's time when you think about how many casual simulator type games there are nowadays.
With dozens of large, visually appealing and secretive maps to clean, each with their unique areas to clean, repair, and explore, you will spend countless hours on this game. It takes me on average 2-4 total hours to clean a single level myself, and given how many levels there are, It's one of those games that's a perfect time sink for achievement hunters. Not to mention that there's a giant over-arcing easter egg narrative to discover via playing through all the maps.
Amazing game to just get lost in while watching something on the other monitor or listening to music. It's co-op too, which is something many of these newer simulator games can't say!
Has a mod workshop too, if you manage to finish all the vanilla levels!

By 2025 standards, this is just bad. It doesn't really explain anything. You don't know what is expected of you or how to go about doing it. It's down right tedious. You'd think "It's a cleaning game, how much do you need explained?" but these are long levels (1 hr+) only to discover afterwards that you've been demoted because you didn't do something that was never explained to begin with. Google the crap out of it before you actually play to find out what you need to do and the what to expect (hint: bullet holes need to be repaired... in a nonsensical way)
After Crime Scene Cleanup I was excited to give this a try but it really shows its age.
This is a great turn your brain off and clean game. I personally love it because when my brain gets too cluttered I can just boot the game up for a couple hours and relax,
I was trying to play one day and all of a sudden I can't play it , when i'm done loading through all the credits it's just a black screen and I can't click anything.
Fun if you like seeing cool things, cool mystery lore and fixing things with intuitive idea like lasers. Needs a bigger trash bin to make the game more fun and easier info of my area or mission but I like it 8/10. Would not play without friends.
I spent a few more hours with this than is shown because I played through the two standalone levels first.
This game as being designed around a single central joke, that joke being that a bunch of the wonky physics objects you have to deal with are responsible for the messes you have to clean up, and make more of them in the course of being wonky physics objects. It's funny the first couple times, as significant amounts of progress are erased by a basket full of body parts spontaneously ejects its content all over the room, but the joke becomes much less funny the more it happens, and the novelty really can't sustain the game for more than a few levels.
muito bom, mas me da tontura de jogar. movimento do jogo é desconfortável
It might sound strange to claim that a game about cleaning up dismembered corpses at intergalactic murder scenes is your comfort game but this game is truly that for me.
The sense of accomplishment that comes from cleaning an area is unmatched and there is always a great balance of challenging and fun. Nearly every level adds a unique gimmick as well so that no level feels same-y and repetitive. The dialogue is also unendingly witty and clever, many of the logs still make me laugh even though I've read them dozens of times by now.
One of the very few downsides is the weirdly testy physics system. Objects love to move in ways that make zero sense which makes stacking things a pain until you get used to how they behave. Never stack objects so that their sides touch other objects, however, and that will fix most of your stacking woes.
10/10 game, a veritable classic, I think every horror slash cleaning sim fan should play VCD at least once.
Also the plasma welder is my favorite tool. I call it the Chunker, because it turns things into chunks. It is my friend.
It's pretty good but its age and lack of polish compared to newer titles in the zen cleaning genre can be pretty difficult to ignore at times. If you're tired of Crime Scene Cleaner or Powerwash Sim and are looking to look at where the genre started, this is probably a good bet. I would genuinely recommend it if you like this sort of thing, but it's not nearly as satisfying or cleanly designed as its later contemporaries. I'd blame age rather than lack of creative vision though, if that means anything to anyone.
I like the idea behind it, and perhaps in its current form, it offers some sort of Sisyphean appeal to some people with its physics jank and mechanics that I only managed to figure out through trial and error, but if you are like me and wanted to unwind alone and get into the groove of things, maybe just clean your actual house.
I wanted a game similar to crime scene cleaner. This just isn't it.
This game has zero quality of life features, everything is designed to piss the player off and waste their time. It's like a poor Hydroneer version of crime scene cleaner.
There are no upgrades, no skill tree. No group pickup so you actually have to single click every single bullet case on the ground and put it in a rubbish bin.
It's a hard pass from me.
Struggled to run at 45+ fps and no tutorial. I'd only buy if you have a group of friends to play with.
