love to clean in this game, but my room looks worse then the murder sites i play in.
I played this game for a while in I think 2023. The I stopped, and then I picked it up again in early 2025. Its very easy to get addicted to. And very satisfying in terms of cleaning and organizing.
Spent hours and then game crashes clocking off wasting everything.
Viscera Cleanup Detail is a game I love a lot.
It's more involved than Powerwash Simulator which I find more engaging and satisfying.
If you want an easy, cozy game. You probably won't like this game over PWS. Mechanics like buckets spilling and vendor rng will ruin your relaxation.
But I find it really enjoyable to push through all that and clean a level. Some levels aren't that great (gravity isn't that enjoyable and dark levels are a pain in the ass) but most of the time it's you, your mop, a bucket and the free waste basket you're getting every damn use out of.
Cleaning blood, picking up bullets and trash. It's tedious but with a satisfying end result.
Look, if you like powerwash because you can't fuck it up, you probably won't like this game. But the DLCs are cheap if you wish to try expanding your horizons and adding a bit more difficulty to your fictional 9-5.
Simple and relaxing while leaving enough room for mistakes to keep you engaged. Viscera Cleanup Detail (VCD) strives in it's easy to understand premise with a satisfying sense of accomplishment as you slowly work your way towards cleaning each of the game's 25 levels (27 with DLC). While the gameplay doesn't evolve much over time there's plenty of effort taken to have a wide variety of differing environments, corpse models, and notes to read to better explain what went so very wrong in the first place.
Ultimately the game's biggest flaw is in it's physics, while you're able to tweak the options to make physics calculations more accurate you'll still see the game showing it's age at times like giblets clipping into waste bins and causing them to spin around wildly which spreads blood all over the place. There's also the notable lack of any tutorial whatsoever, it makes sense from a lore perspective to show how little your employers care for it's cleaning staff. It can potentially be enjoyable to figure everything out on your own but if it doesn't click quick enough you may lose your patience when you realize how many more tasks are required for a good performance rating after leaving your first level.
Co-op is quite fun to speed up how long it takes to finish a level but the client-side experience can be a bit weird with physics jostling all over the place from your perspective but not to the host. Making mistakes here is at least a lot more fun when you have someone to laugh with.
An excellent objective-based game to really sink a lot of hours into. As a heads-up for achievement hunters make sure to have a completed save file for every level and don't destroy any notes from "Bob", this way you won't need to replay. Have fun!
A comical cleanup sim masked in humor and horror. You will have a much better experience with friends though.
A super casual fun time just cleaning up things with friends. Would recommend if you really want to clean something *and not want to 100% it*. It's especially a blast with friends, and servers work great.
Otherwise, the game doesn't clarify a lot of specific strategies needed to 100% levels, like optimizing the punch-o-matic and how stacking areas work. Don't get me started on blood splatter going out of bounds. If you do go this route, all I'll say is to have the console menu handy.
Past that though, it really is just a great relaxing time.
Very fun and chill game. Good to play with friends or while listening to a podcast.
I have played more l 100 hours but most of that was of line but then found out that to get achievements i needed to be on line so now am going over my old saves to make shore i'v not missed thing and then finishing again some times this gives me the finished level achievements some times not so i just save over old file and start again.
clean up blood barf and probably other things i do not want to know about but i like playing with dead peoples feet and then burning them great game 9/10
Unplayable in multiplayer. Every time I wanted to play with a friend, we would spend at least 30 minutes just trying to connect. I would spawn under the map and my friend would literally spam "join friend" and nothing. Sometimes we wouldn't even see each online in the game.
This game is so fun and relaxing...I need friends to play this, if anyone is interesteddddd
Holy fuck cleaning is amazing ever since i got this game cleaning has consistently given me furious orgasms please buy this game
horrible game, impossible to play, the freakkng bucket flips and i have a double workload, not a relaxing experience, left me pissed. I regret buying this game.
i can live out my dream of cooking people and instead of crying over spilled milk its bloody water
amusing, relaxing, long.. perfect. Move it, go clean!
If you have the right friend to play this with, it can be very fun, relaxing, and satisfying. Great memories made cleaning viscera <3
This is a game from 2015. It holds up surprisingly well.
The main point of the game is pretty self-explanatory: clean up a level full of gore. Think Powerwasher Simulator sort of.
Here are my cons with the game:
- No tutorial: The game is not very intuitive. It seems straight forward until your mop gets too dirty to clean. Where do you put the dead bodies? What do you actually have to clean? How do you know when you're done? etc.
- Lack of progression: This is an older title, and this part isn't a super big con, but you're only improving yourself. Each map is essentially on a new save (except for the collectibles you bring to your office)
[*]2015 Physics. The goddamn mop buckets are waaayyyy to easy to trip over in some circumstances.
The pros are pretty compelling tho: Each map is like a little puzzle: How do I get this all cleaned without then getting it all dirty again? Sorta like cleaning up a super messy room in real life. It's chill, easy to play while listening to something, super satisfying once you start making visible progress in a level.
Anyways, give it a try if you liked Powerwasher Simulator.
Old but fun game, very relaxing to just clean.
I genuinely, deeply, with all my being, want to love this game. But it's a deeply frustrating mess to try to play, from top to bottom. The game is so horribly optimized that even with all the settings turned as low as possible, the lag (in *single* player!) renders it completely unplayable. The physics are inconsistent and unpredictable, and combined with the abhorrent lag, this game is an unpleasant wreck of terrible programming and inexcusable problems. Someone in a review called this game "a frustrating experience that makes the player the butt of its joke" and they were spot on. I have spent so many hours fussing with it trying to make it work, and I'm over it. It's a disaster and a half. Hopefully, I can spare someone else from wasting their hard earned cash on it, it is NOT worth it.
The game is quite good if you have nothing else better to do other than worry about your exams next week but it is quite weird too, im not sure if its a bug or anything but even after you completely scrub the place dry, making sure everything is clean and that you didnt leave a single spot of blood or a loose limb the game still demotes you and tells you that you did the bare minimum of what you were expected to, Even after spending the past 2 hours of my life cleaning a whole tragedy making it look like nothing ever happened, still it tells you that you didnt even try. Is it a bug or am i missing something?
Game is decently fun, however incredibly hard to actually learn and very buggy. First mission took 2 hours, and gave me a "demoted" rating even though I cleaned everything perfectly and made sure of it with the analyzer thing. No explanations whatsoever of what you need to do, had to look it all up or figure it out myself. If steam had star ratings I'd give it a 3, it isn't a BAD game but I personally wouldn't recommend it. Don't go into this game thinking it's gonna be similar cleaning style to house flipper like I did, because it certainly isn't anything like it, whether that's for good or bad.
Absolute shit game you get bored in 10 fucking seconds
Can't monsters kill people less messy? They never think about the people who have to clean after them. Sigh.
If you think some kart racing game where you eat mushrooms makes you angry at your friends, think about you cleaning your house diligently for an hour and then a friend walks by and drops a bucket full of intestines... yes, that friend is me.
Update, I have played it again. I love it. I love that I can write reports on the states of bodies, I like that stacking barrels and crates is actually a thing, yeah I had to find a guide to get the info laid out, but its a very good guide. So many things I assumed didn't matter or wouldnt be addressed *are* and that makes me so happy, this is exactly what I hoped it would be, and I love you for that. Took me 8 years, but I finally understand why someone would play this game, next to shipbreaker this is the only game that hits that nerve, and might even do it better.
I don't know if I am going to care much about the sequel, there's something enthralling about this one, the graphics and jank, this is the game I was making messes in in 2017, its the game I wanna clean messes in now, but I am eager to see what you do in the new one, I hope you have as much fun making it as I have playing this game again. I am eager to get the DLC though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will update this in a second, havent played in years, I remember liking this but not getting it. I wanted explosions and such, when I did play it straight I got either bored or frustrated I reckon.
I am *older* now, and shipbreaker is one of my favourite games, its a relaxing methodical game, but you can mess up so bad you die
But something that pushed me away from powerwashing simulator
This game I do remember being somewhat tedious, and frustrating when I was taking it seriously, because you can mess up so bad you die, you can undo progress, you have to be aware enough not to make mistakes, but can zone out enough to relax.
In ship breaker if I am not paying attention I could hit a fuel tank or violently decompress the ship, or just blow it up completely, it keeps me from dissociating, but I get into a comfortable flow and still relax and tune out while playing. In this game you can track the mess back onto the floor, get buckets of blood, or body parts, or bombs, you can completely undo work you did by being careless, but its never enough that you can't recover, and if you are paying attention its easy to avoid.
I am very keen to play this game again and see how it compares to shipbreaker, as another meditative slow game with that little bit of edge to keep me present
Its just too annoying and fiddly to be fun. its more chore than any other simulator I've ever played, and I've played a lot
Get Crime Scene Cleaner instead, its got the fun simulator side without the boring shit this game creates
I never thought I'd be playing Tetris with the remains of some poor lad named Jimmy.
Very fun game if you like cleaning games. Very satisfying and sometimes challenging if you are trying to 100% clean the level
More fun with friends.
This is a chill game. It's gross enough that you want to clean it, but not detailed enough to make you sick (hopefully). You just want to clean, do a good job, and relax in your office at the end of the day. But putting that all aside, the physics makes everything SO funny! Just when you think you've seen it all, the game still surprises you! And the storytelling in some of the maps has some jokes and lighthearted moments as much as there's horror elements about it. A really great game and I honestly can't wait for the second one!! Highly recommend - both for singleplayers and multiplayers.
Great fun if you enjoy the odd satisfaction of cleaning up mess. Better if you play with friends. Lots of jank, but that's all part of the charm. Tons of references to games, films, etc. that are neat to pick up on.
This game is brilliant, very very fun. It's janky, so don't think its perfect. The physics are a bit glitchy and items collide together but it really does add to the fun and charm of the game, you will knock the bucket over. Mopping up the gore and collecting all the trash is relaxing, and some of the themed levels are really good too.
The co-op is fun, the main story is fun.
If you enjoy weird satisfying games then this is for you!
At first i didn't like how many damn buckets you have to use but everything in the game grew on me. it itches my need to clean things in video games. even with the jank physics its really fun and the fan made levels are peak.
Very fun and relaxing, if you're into games like Power Wash Simulator and others that involve cleaning somehow. It could really use a tutorial or even an opening document, however. I found myself confused on my first map on why I scored low [despite mopping everything, disposing of trash, etc] not knowing there was other details [moving crates to specific squares, welding bullet holes closed, etc] or how to do them. I had to look up a guide which told me about things I would never have guessed.
So overall, would absolutely recommend. But it very much would benefit from some sort of tutorial or an in-game guide document to nudge you in the right direction on what's expected and how to do well.
this game is old, and the multiplayer doesn't even work anymore
I love a good manual work sim, but good god this game is finnicky.
This game is ragebait and trolled my friend for 2 hours then after cleaning for 2 hours they got demoted. Actually evil.
Surprisingly relaxing title considering what it contains. Some maps require you to do more or less depending on the setting, sometimes you just have to clean the blood and corpses, other times you'll have to pick up countless bullet casings and fix bullet holes, there are different map sizes and estimated times for completion which can range from 45 minutes to 3 whole hours or more. It's bound to enchant you (so long as you've got a powerful enough computer, when I played it on the laptop I had before my gaming PC it kept changing the resolution of the game as I was playing and it was so annoying I refunded it.)
If you're an old school Hollywood nut, you will certainly enjoy all the references.
this is a nice autopilot game
no no no not the autopilot as in "oh hey guys im tired and im gonna play this game"
no this is the game where you say fucking nothing for an hour straight with zero emotions on your face autopilot
this is the game for you if you wanna look like your fuckin dead
Very silly, fun, multiplayer game. Super fun if you're an OCD freak. Does contain a lot of blood and body parts, but i mean that's kinda the point of the game so. Controls are easy to learn, and there's ton's of maps to choose from. There is a few bugs ofc, but overall the game is really good. I highly recommend!
It's a neat game but to clean everything, or even complete levels, can be confusing and annoying. A single bullet hole or a footstep in the dirt beneath a shrub will fail the entire level and you will lose 3 hours of progress.
Fun game. I cleaned up alot of dead bodies.
Why is this fun. I've spent more time cleaning dead aliens than I clean my room.
Fun game to do alone if you can stand the ''viscera''
All you need to do is be very precise and just ''clean up''
Yet what I love most about this game is the attention to ''detail''
a little hard to figure out but once you get the hang of it, its really fun. a very bloody but somehow calming game
Walks an INCREDIBLY fine line of being an engrossing job simulator game and incorporating "frustrating on purpose" gameplay.
I cannot stand the impudence of something like Overcooked or QWOP, where the core premise is controlling the game is intentionally obtuse. Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to incorporate goofy physics-based accidents by just being honest with you.
There is a bucket. The bucket helps you clean. If you screw up and spill it, that area's not so clean now. This is a waste bin. If you put stuff in that bin it will stop those items from making things messier. But if anything falls out, mess everywhere. It's on you if something falls out. The physics of the game are incredibly easy to understand from early on.
Occasionally the developer will be cute and put a bunch of small parts in a confined space so when you step on them, it's like a blood grenade went off, but those pranks are few and far between. If a huge mess happens after you arrive, it's YOUR fault.
There's a worse world where Viscera Cleanup Detail didn't have the confidence in its own gameplay and added a legitimate horror element where there's something spooky chasing you around levels or whatever. Instead they stand on business with their cleaning mechanic and wonderful environmental storytelling. I respect the hell out of RuneStorm, even if the biggest used-case I have for their game is popping in a long podcast and vibing in VCD.
The original cleaning game
Not that the newer ones are bad either
Well made. Not my cup of tea though. If you like cleaning I guess you will like this.
I found out about this game via MasterGir and hollowtones through their streams together on Twitch. I love a good sandbox game, especially one that I can play while listening to a podcast or audiobook, and this game is perfect for that although the original soundtrack is great too! The macabre twist makes it even more My Brand lol.
My only real problem with the game comes down to its performance. I do have a Mac laptop from 2013, which doesn't help with lag, but even when watching others' streams it's clear that consistently the physics are a little crazy to the extent that in co-op mode you can easily glitch into the other player in a way that kills at least one of you. This latter could be frustrating if you're spent a lot of time getting your office organized and all the rooms unlocked. There also isn't much Mac support (including no achievements), so I've played for much, much longer than the 6 hours reflected on my account.
However, I play co-op rarely enough that this isn't a dealbreaker for me, and I think overall the game mechanics, environmental design, satirical theme, and satisfaction of a job well done make up for anything else. I really enjoy this game and will definitely support the sequel!
Very fun game, albeit the physics can be very janky at times, which seems even more apparent in multiplayer. Sometimes the sniffer detects something that I just cant see and/or get rid of, but with console you can get rid of those things easily no problem. And using console doesn't disable achievements either which is very helpful due to the aforementioned janky physics. Besides that, the game has a charm to it that I can't quite describe, but I absolutely love, bugs, quirks and all.
Cleaning up the messes made in the shooter games I enjoy is somehow very satisfying :) Join in the clean up crazy!
