Controls are janky and just terrible. The whole feel of the game is terrible.
This game is 10 years old... but it feels so unique and one of a kind. It's relaxing if you play for a short period of time. If I play for hours at a time I usually start to get stressed. It has many levels which takes 1-3 hours to complete. Once you learn more about the game you'll be quicker. Longest level for me was almost 5 hours (but that's because I was very inefficient) ... but there's a save feature so you can pickup from where you left off.
This game is nothing like the copy paste cleanup games of today that all use the same engine and feels the same. This engine isn't the same. Play this if you want a break from the normal house flipper, Power wash, etc games that all use the same engine.
Awesome game, did all levels and all achievements, i loved every second, besides from the whole level of Penumbra, stacking crates when they keep moving, same with barrels.}
every level with a new theme, new mechanics, new items, unique items. i loved collecting lot of the items from the level and pimping out my office, getting all secret items and bobs corpse was awesome.
something about this game just clicks in my head, going into a place and cleaning up a ton of mess in quick succession. using buckets and bins to remove all viscera, laugh at funny names, and collect the body's of random workers from the site.
overall, 9/10, loved the game, kinda sad there isn't more but, i enjoyed the time i had with this game, and loved it all.
Destroying the fucking stereo in each level brings me more joy than 100% cleaning an office or science lab
Are you tired of the same old horror spiel that goes into modern games? Have you ever wanted to fill out a mountain of paperwork while tediously explaining and going over details about horrific Sci-Fi Scenarios ranging from Rouge Robots to Alien Entities? Maybe you just want to clean up after somebody else when the horror has already happened simply because you want to vibe while cleaning along with taking whatever notes you want to put in. If any of those things sound appealing to you, this is the game for you.
Become a janitor for Aerospace Sanitation Inc. and do just that, clean up after odd situations all the while filling out a PDA with notes of all kinds to your own heart's content. Take as long as you need to clean an research station, a desolate industrial facility, or something else entirely. Heck you can even explore various other maps made by other folks using the unreal engine if you get tired of the base content. What are you waiting for, start cleaning today! [Insert 10 Pages of Aerospace Sanitation Inc.'s Company Disclaimers Here]
ive always aspired to give zero craps while cleaning up the worst science or medical negligence known to man all while theres some deep plot for the group of janitors. honestly 10/10
love this game when i need to just relax and do fuck all! real stress reliever!!!
game info reads it works on mac; but does not work on m2 mac for me. the game opens in a strange window mode and i see a zoomed in menue. the mouse cursor is visible but doesn't work correct. it overshoots and does not correctly move on the x- and y-axis. every attempt to click on anything fails. just beeing in the menue seems to draw alot more recources from my system than other games that run smoothly. re-installing didn't help. so my guess is it's not actually for silicon macs.
so far i've been taking twice as long as expected but i'm having the time of my life ^_^ i <3 going at my own pace AND BLOOD AND BLOOD AND BLOOD
Tons of levels, each one taking multiple hours to complete and in different settings, with lots of references to movies and games.
Viscera Cleanup Detail is a fun game to play with friends or listen to something in the background if going solo. For a decade old game, it holds up on the fun factor and looks decent (recommend it on sale).
That being said it's a shame the game runs poorly by default. To get the most out of the game (and its expansions) you'll need to manually adjust the fps. Go to go to steam\steamapps\common\viscera\engine\config\BaseEngine.INI (or from your library-properties-installed files-browse). Open this file with Word or Notepad and search for the following:
bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
MinSmoothedFrameRate=166 (game will bug if this goes beyond 166- adjust to your liking)
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=166 (game will bug if this goes beyond 166- adjust to your liking)
Now save the file and upon reopening the game you'll have better fps. Many thanks to Churo Zan for posting this in a Steam forum.
Lots of people only know this game for being tuber-bait, which is a shame because this game is actually incredibly relaxing and ahead of It's time when you think about how many casual simulator type games there are nowadays.
With dozens of large, visually appealing and secretive maps to clean, each with their unique areas to clean, repair, and explore, you will spend countless hours on this game. It takes me on average 2-4 total hours to clean a single level myself, and given how many levels there are, It's one of those games that's a perfect time sink for achievement hunters. Not to mention that there's a giant over-arcing easter egg narrative to discover via playing through all the maps.
Amazing game to just get lost in while watching something on the other monitor or listening to music. It's co-op too, which is something many of these newer simulator games can't say!
Has a mod workshop too, if you manage to finish all the vanilla levels!

if accordiing to men thats all im supposed to do then sure i can do this all day
By 2025 standards, this is just bad. It doesn't really explain anything. You don't know what is expected of you or how to go about doing it. It's down right tedious. You'd think "It's a cleaning game, how much do you need explained?" but these are long levels (1 hr+) only to discover afterwards that you've been demoted because you didn't do something that was never explained to begin with. Google the crap out of it before you actually play to find out what you need to do and the what to expect (hint: bullet holes need to be repaired... in a nonsensical way)
After Crime Scene Cleanup I was excited to give this a try but it really shows its age.
This is a great turn your brain off and clean game. I personally love it because when my brain gets too cluttered I can just boot the game up for a couple hours and relax,
I was trying to play one day and all of a sudden I can't play it , when i'm done loading through all the credits it's just a black screen and I can't click anything.
Fun if you like seeing cool things, cool mystery lore and fixing things with intuitive idea like lasers. Needs a bigger trash bin to make the game more fun and easier info of my area or mission but I like it 8/10. Would not play without friends.
I spent a few more hours with this than is shown because I played through the two standalone levels first.
This game as being designed around a single central joke, that joke being that a bunch of the wonky physics objects you have to deal with are responsible for the messes you have to clean up, and make more of them in the course of being wonky physics objects. It's funny the first couple times, as significant amounts of progress are erased by a basket full of body parts spontaneously ejects its content all over the room, but the joke becomes much less funny the more it happens, and the novelty really can't sustain the game for more than a few levels.
muito bom, mas me da tontura de jogar. movimento do jogo é desconfortável
It might sound strange to claim that a game about cleaning up dismembered corpses at intergalactic murder scenes is your comfort game but this game is truly that for me.
The sense of accomplishment that comes from cleaning an area is unmatched and there is always a great balance of challenging and fun. Nearly every level adds a unique gimmick as well so that no level feels same-y and repetitive. The dialogue is also unendingly witty and clever, many of the logs still make me laugh even though I've read them dozens of times by now.
One of the very few downsides is the weirdly testy physics system. Objects love to move in ways that make zero sense which makes stacking things a pain until you get used to how they behave. Never stack objects so that their sides touch other objects, however, and that will fix most of your stacking woes.
10/10 game, a veritable classic, I think every horror slash cleaning sim fan should play VCD at least once.
Also the plasma welder is my favorite tool. I call it the Chunker, because it turns things into chunks. It is my friend.
It's pretty good but its age and lack of polish compared to newer titles in the zen cleaning genre can be pretty difficult to ignore at times. If you're tired of Crime Scene Cleaner or Powerwash Sim and are looking to look at where the genre started, this is probably a good bet. I would genuinely recommend it if you like this sort of thing, but it's not nearly as satisfying or cleanly designed as its later contemporaries. I'd blame age rather than lack of creative vision though, if that means anything to anyone.
I like the idea behind it, and perhaps in its current form, it offers some sort of Sisyphean appeal to some people with its physics jank and mechanics that I only managed to figure out through trial and error, but if you are like me and wanted to unwind alone and get into the groove of things, maybe just clean your actual house.
I wanted a game similar to crime scene cleaner. This just isn't it.
This game has zero quality of life features, everything is designed to piss the player off and waste their time. It's like a poor Hydroneer version of crime scene cleaner.
There are no upgrades, no skill tree. No group pickup so you actually have to single click every single bullet case on the ground and put it in a rubbish bin.
It's a hard pass from me.
Struggled to run at 45+ fps and no tutorial. I'd only buy if you have a group of friends to play with.
i like to pretend that i'm cleaning the aftermath of a madness combat episode, a killing floor match or the black mesa incident when playing this, pretty fun shit to roleplay on
I'm a perfectionist who grew up helping my mom with janitorial work (the less violent kind). Needless to say I can get a little obsessed with this game. I refuse to finish a map without completing every single optional task. I hope to one day get max rank on all levels and 100% this game.
9.5/10 -- can be a bit frustratingly buggy sometimes
This game can be very rage inducing, but when you get some friends on, all that rage turns into laughter real quick.
Cleaned a whole map with my friend, I found a small body part and messed up the place again. Nearly got decapitated.
10/10 good and relaxing game
Honestly, been wanting to play this game for a while and recently only got the change to actually play it. it's a very nice game--even if it's tedious as hell. Would love to play this with friends but playing solo is somewhat calming and frustrating at the same time. If you ever see me on this game, I'm probably procrastinating.
yes because there are so many achiements and your able to play with friends while having fun and getting mad at each other
thought this would be a mindless cleaning simulator, but it turns out i cant even get rid of a bottle without paying attention
It's very chill game. Burning men and women, and yourself too. Cleaning, cleaning and also cleaning: the game mechnaics I like. Also I like alien ass, and I can grab it, so, yeah.
fun game when im bored good to play wuth friends vcery funny and extremly graphic not for the people with a weak stoumach
Perhaps this just isn't for me, but the mechanics of this game do not make for an enjoyable experience. I would like a cleanup simulator to be something that is relaxing. The mechanics for moving items causes way too much frustration, and creates set-backs in progression of the level.
wouldn't recommend playing in one sitting, but the set designs, visuals and premises for maps makes it all worth it ^^
I love this game, i love that i can clean solo, i love the multiplayer aspect, i love everything - saw this game many years back from letsplayers and dreamed of playing it myself i am obsessed so far :3
It's fun and really chilled but can be quite tedious with all the back and forth between getting water, bins and putting stuff in the incinerator would definitely recommend playing with friends as some of the longer levels can definitely take a while solo and they can help clean or spice up the game with some funny shenanigans. Workshop support with even more levels for you to enjoy. Some body parts glitch through the bins and leave blood stains and knocking bloody buckets over is annoying but game is really fast to load and has no issues.
You get your own office to store Easter eggs and a bunch of other collectables with tons of shelves and notes that pop up on failure or passing a level. Always get over 85% or you'll get fired save before leaving a level to be safe.
The game is kinda fun and silly and has a nice concept but the levels take like, an hour on average only to then tell you you failed because you didn't fill out a stupid form asking you to count how many bullet casings there were on the floor (I am not going into the game files to get stats to fill that out)
I thought playing with my friends would be fun, it was the worst decision i even made.
10/10 wouldn't reccomend
Viscera Cleanup Detail is the game you didn’t know you needed (or wanted), but now can't stop playing—because who wouldn’t want to clean up the equivalent to a gamer's first time playing a video game that gave them a bit too much freedom? In this oddly satisfying simulator, you're not the one causing the mess (for once); you’re the unsung hero tidying up after it all. Armed with a mop, a bucket, and an array of cleaning tools, you're on a mission to restore order to environments filled with... uh... "interesting debris"?
The gameplay is simple: clean up the mess, avoid stepping in it (good luck), and hope you don’t spill something in the process. One wrong move and you'll find yourself making a bigger mess than before. It's strangely satisfying to turn what was once a chaotic mess into a spotless work environment, even if your cleaning methods are probably best described as "palaeolithic" at heart.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be the person who has to clean up after someone else's big meltdown when quitting McDonalds, Viscera Cleanup Detail lets you live that dream! It’s a kind of weird and quirky, yet oddly relaxing experience that leaves you wondering why you're playing this game, and why it keeps you coming back for more.
In short: it’s a fun, offbeat game that proves there’s more to cleanup than just a broom and internal screaming. Just make sure you don’t lose track of your mop!
PowerWash on hard mode.
Ignore the negative comments, they come from people who still needs their mummy to clean up their room for them
I keep getting demoted, but the more I clean the less I know.....
i want to recommend the game but please add an option to turn off the chance of water and waste disposal bucket dispensers dispensing a body part, it gets really annoying in solo when it happens FOUR times in a row.
edit: i take back what i said about wanting to recommend this game, it is unsatisfying incarnate. i could get past the buckets spilling and the mop getting dirty way too quick, but again the dispensers for no reason dispensing a body part that just gets the area bloody and give me even more work to do, and if you don't get every single PIXEL clean, no win, no achievements, all your progress for nothing.
not to mention how unclear the direction this game was being taken outside of just being some quick youtuber content slop, feels like there's more they could've done with... literally anything in this game.
This game IS fun, I'll say it, but this game has a fundamental problem that feels funny and even fun at first but it legitimately becomes so infuriating and unfun after a while it made me genuinely want to uninstall the game multiple times in multiple levels (and will continue to do so more after this) that needs to be addressed badly: the physics, fucking suck. The game will actively punishes you for stacking things because of how terrible the physics are, and compound this with the jank and generally useless movement mechanics with the auto-step garbage that's inconsistent at best, you have a recipe for a genuinely terrible experience that makes the game go from a solid 8/10 HARD down to a 5/10 easily.
funny cleaning game would not play again. more like a one and done kinda game, you feel me?
the physics engine is infuriatingly funny to me, if you arent careful you can cause a lot of mess easily, i've had the game for a while but i've played it on and off as its more like a game i play when im super bored and dont know what else to do, the fact that the maps take actual hours to finish and you have to pay a lot of attention to detail while cleaning the maps is really interesting and often times i forget to document things
i havent played it enough to notice any problems but even in the last weeks of 2024, its a really fun game and i'd definitely get my friends it too, and i'm DEFINITELY looking forwards to VCD 2 when it comes out
Find radio. Turn radio on. Mop.
Collect trash. Incinerate trash. Mop
Collect dead bodies. Incinerate dead bodies. Mop.
Mop. Mop. Mop. Mop.
Collect monster corpses. Incinerate monster corpses. Keep trophy? Mop.
Drop bucket. Hit everything with mop in frustration. Incinerate radio. Mop.
Anything to avoid mopping your actual house.
No better way to relax after work than to clock in to a shift as a janitor.
oh my god. oh my god. i downloaded this game 10 hours ago and i'm already so invested in this game. there is no turning back for me. i will never be seen again. oh my god
