DPS is easy to use and allows for more artistic control than other dungeon creation software.
This isn't one of the easier map makers to learn, but once you get a grasp of it it's one of the more powerful ones. If you're looking to make highly detailed, varied maps then this is a really good pickup. If you want something that lets you make maps quickly and easily, I'd recommend Dungeon Draft or something similar instead.
Got this game to help with maps as I act as Game Master for some of my TTRPG session. It does a decent job of letting me customize the maps that I create, and allows me to share it with friends when we do a virtual session through Discord. Is it the ideal for this sort of thing? Maybe not. Did I have fun using it? Yes. Do I think I will still use it if I ever GM again? Yes. Will I likely use this for keeping track of maps for any upcoming stories that I write? Probably.
It may not be the best out there, but for what I do, it is super useful and easy to use, idk if it still has dev support, but either way, I have 70 hours on it, and I dont plan on stopping there (also, I think the price is very reasonable for what it offers).
This is one of the best Map making softwares that I've used so far. It is my go to.
Shouldn't be on Steam. It is abandoned software that has many systemic issues the creator clearly couldn't overcome. The fact that they started working on DP2 before they even finished DP1 should've been a clear sign that the program is broken.
Pretty much dead with zero updates in 4 years as of writing this. Save your money or buy some other software like Dungeondraft. Workshop has some good stuff but anything recent is usually low effort or "test" uploads, which you will need because the base assets are kinda low quality. It's not the worst software I've used but you'd be better off using something else.
Easy tool once you learn how to use it.
Dungeon Painter Studio remains the best worst tabletop mapmaking software I have ever used.
It's pretty annoying but once you learn its many, many quirks you can learn to work very quickly and produce loads of high quality maps.
Everything I have seen which is comparable in terms of power is substantially more expensive and everything cheaper I have tried has had even worse compromises than this thing does. And it's also sort of abandonware now!
Reluctant recommend, until you can find something better.
to sum it up, dungeon painter never made it to 1.0 and was abandon fro dungeon painter 2 which does come with your purchase. sadly DP2 is also abandon-ware.
The assets given and the free downloadable assets make it almost worth it if it weren't for the fact the controls are the most awful ive ever seen on any paint/creation app there are no mouse controls besides placing objects. No easy selecting, dragging or rotating. all of that must be hot keyed or manually changed with SLIDERS. ( bear in mind part of this is DP2 but some of these problems are in DP1)
Over all this program is garbage and I would recommend you go buy dungeondraft, For the same price I made a dungeon in 20 minutes that would of taken me an hour and a half dealing with DP
Best thing I've used for DnD map making. Still has some bugs and issues but can't beat it.
A little gem of a project. I found it fairly easy to make acceptable maps on here. If you're an artist you can probably use procreate. But if you're a DM who's playing online and needs to crank out a few maps, this is a good tool.
I've been using this software for several years, and out of all the different map making/dungeon building programs it seems to be the best in all areas! Sure, when you export to .PNG sometimes some of the items on the map may enlarge in size for some reason, but even with those hiccups, it has allowed me to run several years of campaigns with "hand-made" maps of each area I decided.
If the creator of this wonderful program ever reads this, I hope you are doing well and if this is abandoned, I'll accept that. But I would love to see an update soon to fix some stuff, if you aren't too busy of course.
To everyone else thinking about buying this program, all I have to say is its $15 bucks and all the assets to download are free so...what do you have to lose? :D
If you use roll20 or any other virtual tabletop and you like to make your own maps this is a must. I use this for almost every session that there is combat. I also use it when writing modules for others.
Great and easy dungeon map maker. It is really easy to import my own assets or use their connected asset repo.
