i played this back in the day on the dreamcast... decided to search it on steam and i found it! instant buy! although this game is missing some songs from the original, it was still fun to play i wish the game had more levels. but i truly enjoyed my time playing this game
It's a blast from the past from my Dreamcast Days, and it still plays just as well, and I STILL can't beat Japan Race 5! I love it!
I'm glad I was able to relive my childhood memories with the Steam version. But to be fair, it has aged poorly and is WAY TOO short. I wish I could play it like it was the first time, on my old desktop that ran Windows XP, in my old bedroom. Damn, I'm getting old lol.
Clean port of this underrated gem, before Criterion became the behemoth we know. As good as I remembered

Verdict:
TrickStyle is a futuristic hoverboard racing game released originally for the Sega Dreamcast. It's cool for nostalgia's sake but does not stand up for today's standards.
The controls are pretty janky and the UI scales terribly. Graphics and vibe is still good but I cannot recommend it for new players.

This game is terribly broken. Before you can begin playing, you must first map inputs to your controller. The issue here is that the game doesn't signal which inputs correspond to their default buttons, requiring me to look up the original controller layout in the Dreamcast manual. Once the game begins, it's a fairly standard hoverboard racer with mildly jank controls. I frequently encountered issues where doing the luge would not connect me to a luge grind rail, but it never hindered my ability to win all races. That is, all but one race. The final race.
The final race is a gauntlet of challenges which require mastery of the controls, with not a single checkpoint in sight. If you fall off the track, it's back to the beginning. The final obstacle in this sadistic gauntlet is none other than the luge grind rails, which I repeatedly failed to connect to. As a result, I spent more hours on the final race than I did the rest of the game. It took me two and a half hours to reach it, and three hours just to finish it.
I never got to play the Dreamcast version because the disc my console came with hardlocked on the loading screen, but I'm glad it's more readily available in this day and age.
I have huge nostalgia for the era and genre of this kind of racing game, but it feels like complete ass to play. And it doesn't recognize modern trigger inputs natively.
This old game has still excellent music, cool stunts and cool outfit. Amazing to play! Tricky though!!
I can throw away $6 and be perfectly fine with it. But what I can't do is own a game that doesn't work. All the controls are on my keyboard. My game controller doesn't work. I won't pay it with out these controls.
Yes love having the childhood nostalgia. Love the concept and graphics but crappy level design and lack of variety kills it for me. Get it on sale.
Yes, TrickStyle will deliver those nostalgic vibes, and I am grateful to have experienced this classic now because I never owned it on Dreamcast. But this game will test your patience. The slippery controls will undoubtedly give you the authentic feeling of riding a Back-to-the-Future-style hoverboard with no contact to the ground, which is, however, exactly what I found so frustrating. Buy TrickStyle if you like this kind of challenge and are a glutton for punishment like me.

Some people complain about the music not being correct for the different race tracks. But I have NO SOUND at all.
I want my childhgood memories back 100%.
I am happy to be able to play this game again, but it isnt the same without the sound effects.

Fun game from the past. A future where the idea of race is strictly connected with fuel-propelled hoverboard and tricks!

Great game from the Dreamcast era.
TrickStyle has a brief learning curve, but once you understand how to execute the main moves it all comes together. It's not a long game, but it can be fairly difficult, expect to replay races a lot. Replaying races never felt like a chore for me because TrickStyle is so fun to play and I always felt like I was improving.
There is an occasional delay when executing a move that seems out of place with the otherwise tight controls.
TrickStyle is an easy recommendation for anyone who likes games from that era.
(Played on Windows 10 with an Xbox One controller, no crashes, overall it ran well.)
Great port. Graphics work fine and copntrary to most ports, the RT and LT buttons on the XOne controller work just fine.
I've been wanting to play this again for some years now. Thank god for Steam. Playing it in 4K, 60 FPS is amazing. Just wish they made the textures a little better but I'm not complaining. Next up, Hydro Thunder Please!
I absolutely love this game, never owned the original Dreamcast game but I'm glad I could pick up this classic game today.
It has everything that made games from the late 90's and early 2000's amazing:
- Amazing OST,
- Fun and Simple gameplay,
- Stylish setting and artstyle
and many characters to choose from.
Also a 2P mode that seems to be 1P mode but with another player (haven't tested it yet) but that is amazing and I wish more games did this.
Summary: Amazing game if you're into classic games, racers, futuristic games pick it up. =) I am glad that I did atleast.
