better than the fake free2play from disney
During the holiday of 2012, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed came out for Xbox 360. At the time, I had just moved out of a homeless shelter with my family and always demanded to go to Walmart just to do one thing; play demos for the Xbox 360 set up in the entertainment department. There were two games that I was obsessed with: Forza Horizon and this game.
I have never been able to get my hands on the original FH, but this game I have played to death ever since I got it. There really isn't much to it, but just playing it and relieving all the memories of going with my parents to Walmart just to solely play it, always make me smile. For that, and the solid racing in this arcade racer, I can't help but recommend it.
i like this game cus of the memories i have of it. super chill game where u can just turn ur mind off and grind or where u can really try and be better than you were before. but if anyone can help me figure out why it keeps crashing that would Rule. LOVE
THIS GAME IS SO FUN THAT I COMITTED ILLIGAL STREET RACING
crossworlds wishes it could be this game
Played this loads on the Xbox 360. Loved it then, love it now.
This game is really fun and i do enjoy playing the as some of the characters and i always enjoy racing and enjoy online racing with other people.
Can't afford Mario Kart World, we're soooo back
i personally liked it because it's much different then the original and that truly exciting
good game
Real fun multiplayer game! the transformations make it much more fun
lots of fun.
This game is an action-packed kart racing game that features beloved characters from Sega's iconic franchises. It stands out with its unique transformation mechanic, allowing vehicles to switch seamlessly between land, sea, and air modes during races. The tracks are vibrant, dynamic, and filled with nostalgic references to Sega classics. Highly recommend this game for lovers of Sega.
It's a fun racing game
I remember playing this game back on my Wii U and saw this game years later on sale so I picked it up again and remember how fun this game was, I truly recommend this game for anyone who is into racing games or is a fan of the sonic games. This game is truly PEAK.
this game reminds me of wacky racers but like with sonic characters i had load of fun lots of stuff to do
This game is the embodiment of fun, sadly this game spoiled me to the point that I don't enjoy the latest games, this one was just that fun.
If you like Mario kart and Sonic, this game is a perfect mix of both, and is overall the best sonic racing game based on the variety of characters, setting and developing the concept of a racing game.
imagine spending $80 on a racing game
Look, it's not a great game. It has issues with the actual transforming mechanic, maps, and items. However the game more than makes up for it by making none of these issues entirely problematic and being incredibly lenient with what previous sega titles they include here including a burning rangers map for anyone who might hold that close to their heart.
What ends up being the biggest issue with the game is that while the driving is close enough to mario kart while still separating itself enough to be genuinely fun, it absolutely cripples itself with the items, rpg mechanics and maps to a point where it started becoming unplayable rather early on and when I tried to go for the burning rangers map in the campaign on hard mode I was just done.
This game fails to implement items that actually work to the same degree that mario karts does. They will not restrict items based on position leading to situations where an "all star" can be pulled at first or if I had an off situation maybe second and they do restrict that item as I really can't imagine how they could choose to not restrict this. It's essentially a bullet bill but if for specific characters you could also do a damage item effect. However it won't entirely auto-pilot and you still need to turn for it and for some reason force your turning speed to be slow enough that it's more than likely you'll get caught on a corner in the tighter maps. You'll also not be speed boosted at enough of a value for long enough to realistically make this a game changer. A lot of items are like this, either they're boring and marginally benefit you, fail at being a game changer like they're supposed to be or are just insignificant enough that whatever they're supposed to do doesn't really matter. Hell one of them even has a more than likely chance of hitting you in the process.
This is topped off with the transformation system which makes the races change between driving, flying, and waterskiing across the maps as they shift to change up what's used each lap. This mainly fails because flying will essentially lock you into the place you had before take off, even though there is sky drifting and items available, you're barely benefitted by utilising the drift boost in this form and whatever advantage you have would only be pushed back by whatever item whoever was in front of you had, if it's even something that can be used effectively while flying in the first place. As for waterskiing, it's basically the same as driving except with handling that unironically makes it feel like you're operating with tank controls. This is exacerbated by the constant waves that don't add anything other than vary up the time you're acceleration will be active and whether some shortcuts will be accessible or if the wave dip will make the ramp force you into a helpless stop. These two modes were clearly not thought out very well.
Finally there's a leveling system with rpg stats for each character. Instead of swapping out what your riding with your character, Sega & All-Stars opts for picking between around 6 or 7 different "mods" that will swap around different values for a characters. They're also locked away until you level up each racer appropriately in order to utilize them in meaningful ways. This means that some characters will ultimately just not be capable of racing effectively on a large amount of maps with very very niche exceptions. It's a shame especially when you account for the few positive aspects.
While a lot of the problems fundamentally keep the game from being an objectively good racing game, there are a lot of things to love about this title, enough so that I would genuinely recommend playing this game.
While I went into how much fan-service there is for the game. What I meant isn't that there's a map here for this franchise and maybe a nod to this thing over there. I mean they have a frequent f1 sega sponsor Danica Patrick as a racer in the game that you unlock with a lovingly detailed replica of her f1 race car. They chose to not only include Ryu from shenmue, but also made his vehicle replicas of the arcade cabinets that he could play from the shenmue games. Maps of franchises not talked about outside of niche circles like skies of arcadia will not only have you race through a recreation of the hub for rogues in that game, but show over the course of the race an invasion by a fleet of sky ships as they rip apart the port with their cannons and fly around the map as you continue racing through with custom music redone from the original game to both fit the racing game better and sound better overall generally now not being restricted to archaic sound capabilities. It's an absolute product of love.
Beyond fan-service, the actual "grand-prix's" will be giant campaign maps with not only races to come out in first, but will include custom game modes that will make the varying options for your racing actually matter beyond a set few stats. You will Want a slow racer that takes massive benefits from boosts on the boost challenges. You'll want someone with low speed, but high acceleration for the tank fights. Better handling for the police car pursuit stages. It's genuinely really creative and even if not as perfect as it realistically should be to be a good game. It really does offer things that are just so interesting and fun to encounter that if maybe it had more time put in for polish or just perfecting a lot of mechanics that this game would really be better than mario kart 8 in my eyes.
That is until mario kart world comes out and does the open world campaign with what'll probably be a challenge system like this games, and I guess mario kart also had actually meaningful gliding mechanics instead of flying.
I first bought this game on the Nintendo Switch and preferred playing it over Mario Kart 8. When it came up for sale on Steam, I had to add it to my collection. The game is a lot of fun with heaps to unlock. The music, zones and gameplay are all well matched to one another and if you've been playing Sega games for as long as I have, the nostalgia you get from seeing familiar faces racing alongside you is always welcome. Some of the races are quite hard, like the time attack races but you can always lower the difficulty. Having said that, collecting all the characters requires you to finish the zones on the hardest difficulty setting - which for many will seem near impossible.
One of the great "kart" games you can get that is arguably better than Mario Kart.
I just finished and unlocked the Expert mode of the career mode, releasing 80 more challenges to enjoy, this game besides having fun mechanics has a lot of content! It's the best kart game for computer, buy it (and play on-line during the night please).
Classic, has some real effort put into it.
Too biased to write a comprehensive review, but I gotta say.
It's definently a lot more than just "The game that has Yogscast, TF2, Sonic and a dreamcast controller share the same roster."
Damn this is a classic. Booted the game for the first time in a few years and yeah, it still holds up pretty well. I don't what it is, maybe it's well balanced, maybe it's some concept of game design that I just don't grasp yet but it feels so GOOD to play. Winning a race is pure fun, the power ups are useful and fun and the characters are nice too. I love this game, and honestly, I believe it's the best arcade racing game I've played to date, even better than Mario Kart.
Yogscast DLC is peak, thank you SEGA.
the new mario kart is a complete rip off so i'm gonna play this instead
Fun cart race game.
im playing this until cross worlds comes out and i can afford it
I don't need all this "Team Sonic Racing" or "Sonic Racing: Crossworlds" bull crap. Ol' Allstars Racing Transformed works for me!
Best kart racer on the market - better than both Team Sonic Racing and Mario Kart, despite being over a decade old.
- The racing itself is fast paced, skill based, requiring drifting mastery to make tight turns at high speeds (Burning Rangers..) but can also be enjoyed casually while driving a bit slower.
- The art and animation feels lively throughout each character and track, showing clearly the immense amount of effort put into it, while also being hyped up by the narrator as you sail past opponents.
- I'm not usually one to finish the campaigns of multiplayer games, but this one stands out for its unique challenges which tie into the kart racer mechanics extremely well, while also genuinely improving your racing skills.
- The polished mechanics, aesthetic, and soundtrack make simply a great experience overall.
Absolute blast to play. Although I think the 1st has a better roster and more charm, this game objectively plays way better. There's a fine mix between unadulterated item nonsense and pure driving skill and it all combines to make an exhilarating experience.
The game looks absolutely stunning, despite it's age. I'm a believer in the fact that any game can look good no matter the age, and damn does this game push that. Looks great on every console it's on, including the 3DS.
The difficulty spikes in this game though are to be feared. The AI is ruthless and will stop at nothing to make sure you feel as much pain as possible, which can also be said for the damning Time Trials and the demanding World Tour (on Expert). Beating a really hard World Tour event on Expert is the best feeling ever.
Despite my few gripes with this game, I love it to the ends of time. Is the 1st one better in some ways? Yeah. Is this game objectively better gameplay wise? Yeah. Does this game have Burning Rangers? Yeah. Does the first one have it? No. Checkmate.
best sonic racing evah!
I actually hate how I had to look up how to actually start this game. Requiring me to change the resolution to 1920x1080 and then Windowed also I had to Delete a file in order to actually start playing . When I finally got the game it has a cool concept ,but doesn't really age well.
This game hasn't launched in my system in two years. It's completely busted and, considering how many people report the same thing, it should be delisted since SEGA doesn't care to fix it.
The port was pretty terrible to start with, just have a look at the PC Gaming Wiki for this, that page is like an IT department's nightmare. But no, really, whatever the game may be, it simply does not work, you'll be wasting your money.
Looks gorgeous, but doesn't run great - I encountered some weird stuttering in between sections and whenever I finished a cup. The difficulty spike between C Class and B Class is ridiculous and makes me feel crazy. Some cool characters and a lot of strange ones that I can't imagine anyone wanting to play. I did like a lot of the track themes, and the layouts are good for the most part but lack some polish. The Drift Challenges are great, easily one of my favourite parts.
There are so many odd mechanics in this - Leveling up characters, slot machines for advantages in the loading screen between races, point systems, coin systems, star systems, world tour and racing cups are separate for some reason. This adds a lot of stuff to try and make it seem different from the obvious competitor, but it feels pretty scattered.
I'm sure there must be some good kart racers out there that can rival Mario Kart, but this isn't quite there. I'd give it a solid B.
Fun but good lord the merc impersonations.
This game is awesome, but the random elements can be frustrating when trying to complete hard mode. Still, a very fun game.
Extremely fun, challenging and rewarding game. My kids love it. Great for anyone looking for CTR experience.
It's a very nice "mario kart like", quite decent. You can have fun with your friends, the online mode is still working.
Though I want to say the game crashed twice in 1 hour. Also it didn't start in the first place and I had to use the Windows7 compatibility mode.

Solid family and Sonic Universe fan friendly game. All kinds of Sega characters and awesome tracks to drift, speed or bash your your way to victory on. The flying has a bit of a learning curve, but you get used to it and start owning ^.^
The best version of this game! TF2 in this game is so cool! Cool crossovers! I want more all star racing games like this!
Better than Mariokart. Instead of being screwed by an item and you can do nothing about it when you get hit, you actually can get back up front if you are good enough. (except if it's right before the finish) And overall this game has a fun career fun which mariokart doesn't have and it has a bigger variety in items that don't ruin the game, such as Blue shells and bullet bills. So yes, you should buy it, I bought it 2 days ago when it was 75% off an i already got 12 hours. Love it.
got this on sale and holy shit it's worth it.
i used to play this on the 360 years back, and completely forgot about this game till i saw it on my steam store. Sure, it sometimes feels like some races are rigged (AI magically getting ahead of you) but if you have skill it's fine.
def one of the best racers out there, highly recommend.
BTW- The game has issues launching, but if you press No on the admin prompt it'll launch fine (dunno about Linux but Windows is fine).
Games pretty fun. Its mario kart on PC can't really go wrong with it. Lots to do like grand prix where you race through 4 tracks and earn points, ghost races where you beat certain times and devs ghost, some main story where you collect stars equal to the difficulty you have it on. You use these stars to get new characters as you progress through each island.
For mods you can put some character skins in but from what i looked around for like graphics update or settings like fps mods they aren't there. Still fun but 60 fps strains the eyes when played long enough.
New game sonic crossworlds is coming out this year or next year which is a more polished version of this game. I'd say get this game if you want to play and get used to the mechanics for the next one. Its still fun but once crossworld comes out this game will be too out dated to go back to.
WAS fun until the game started to feel like it was punishing me for being ahead in the campaign mode by randomly having CPUs interrupt my stunts and having them pelt me with unavoidable items.
to get it to launch i had to run win 7 compatibility mode on the launcher. so far no issues after this
The game flat out won't turn on. I've tried everything but it just does not run anymore.
this game is really good! however, it runs terribly on modern hardware. it could use a patch or two to fix some issues like having 2 monitors or having to click no for admin rights whenever u turn it on. However, it is SEGA we are talking about so they probably do not care.
Pros
- Has leaderboards
- Nice variety of racers from different games
Cons
- The vehicles are constantly changing between carts, boats, and planes. I'd prefer riding just 1 vehicle per race on any track.
- Hard to get the game to even run. I had to turn down the settings and go into windowed mode despite running on a PC that is way powerful enough to run this game
- It says it supports 1400p but the screen just becomes off centered and glitches out
