Sonic Mania

overall i actually really dislike classic sonic but this game is worth it for anyone. its so good and well made and way less of a pain in the ass than sonic 1,2 and 3 that its worth a play for just about anyone. its also good fun on the go with a laptop, tho a cracked version of this will actually run siginificantly smoother on laptops.

unironically one of the best sonic games of all time, people disagreeing are most likely a little blinded by nostalgia. for example my favorite sonic games are sonic adventure 1+2 but this is objectively better than those are. it captures the feel of the classic 2D sonic as well. great level design, beautiful level art/character sprites, and a great soundtrack. that's what carries the game here, as the story is a bit minimal, but isn't quite necessary in a game like this. im not the biggest fan of the old genesis games but if you loved those you'll feel right at home playing these.

one of the only genuine complaints i have about the game as a whole was i wish it had more content and more stuff to do. it isn't *perfect* but no sonic game really is. depending on what you're into, it is at worst a 5 or 6 out of 10 if you're not generally a fan of platformers & at best, you probably think it's a 9/10 masterpiece and the pinnacle of the sonic franchise to this day probably. i'm probably closer to a 7-8/10 on the spectrum, as i'm usually not the biggest fan of 2D sonic.

Freakin' amazing remake of all the best Sonic games mashed together in a way that makes it even more fun while still being nostalgic. The music is great as well!

In my opinion 2nd best 2d sonic platformer game after 3&knuckles. There's a lot of characters, interesting story, fun and engaging gameplay, a bit challenging achievements and really good level design. Maybe one day they'll make a sequel to sonic mania...

oh boy, my dead ass couldnt beat this game yet, some levels are really hard, the pixel art its gorgeous, the music is great, if i remember well this game was made by a fan right? hard to believe, the game is one of the best sonic games (if not the best), the game got achievements and steam cards, cant complain at all.

If you grew up playing the OG sonic's part 1-3 in the early 90's and loved the side scrolling 2d platforms then you will love this game. It brings back the first sonic games with a twist. Graphics and sound also remind me of the first games, I got this on sale so I am a happy camper.

it's so good I know people hear this type of comment all the time but you can't blame em it's so good because there's levels from the classics new levels (mirage saloon is my favorite) the art is beautiful it controls super well 100% the game is actually really fun unlike other sonic games. The story is meh though especially compared to s3&k but it was 2d though so there's that but there is another thing that I don't like how do you unlock the sonic and knuckles partnership like I have done pretty much everything including unlocking the mean bean machine thing but this game you should 100% buy.

Probably the best Sonic game I've ever played, beats Sonic 4 Episode 1 & 2 by a large scale, mostly the levels have all returned & remade, including a few new ones like Studiopolis & Press Garden also Mirage Saloon. Also the catchy redone music, maybe the music stands out more in Sonic Mania, all though the Blue Sphere stages are not bad however do drive me insane when I fail them, the Chaos Emerald stages are fine & fair with the difficulty so there's nothing to complain about there. I do recommend this game, if your into the Sonic video game platforming stuff, recommend to those who are true Sonic fans. No excuse to not buy Sonic Mania. Can't wait for more 2D platforming ones like this one in future.

Game doesn't go full screen for me at all. I've tried turning off my second monitor, changing the resolution, and more to try and get the game to be full screen but it just becomes unresponsive and glitches out the screen and i have to force close the game.

Amazing to play. Probably, if not, SEGA's best game ever made in a long time. THIS is why they should team up with Sonic fan-game studios more often! Absolute masterpiece!

dont buy the game it crashes wayy too much tried to find a fix for this issue and couldnt find any shame this is one of the best sonic games atm but the devs wont fix this issue

i could be able to buy this game because of the discount aswell as the dlc,it was only like 5-6 pounds so get the discount if you can so show your mom this review is she complains about it bieng too voilent or youll not play it sonic mania is kid friendly,they are not hurting the animals nor taking thier cool robot suit things away,doctor robotnik or docter egg controls those robot things and wants to take over the world while sonic,the main hedgehog,and tails his best friend that has 2 tails instead of one,probably why his name is tails and not tail,sonic is supa dupa cool and after getting to the plant lab or zone 2 i saw mr egg or humpty dumpty use the choas crystal that warps us to places and just know its insanely easy,only for stage one though:( had my first loss in plant lab where i lost all my 3 lives and got sent back to the beginning,also collecting a ring then getting damaged is simple,the ring drops after you get damaged and just pick it back up,i beat both of the first 2 games,but thats not enough,games are good for you and also buy him some robux if he begs you every time your going to shop becuase he wont forget,your son will always remember that,and if you dont treat him right or your strict,C H A N G E T H A T ,anyways its basically inifnite lives with one ring but if your at the edge of the screen in a boss and get bonked your ring might be like 'im outta here in the part you cant see see ya never bozo-' and leaves you:( still really fun and just know if your strict he M I G H T shut off your life support when your a grandma,good thing only really bad kids do that,right? Sonic Mania is a love letter to the classic games with some new additions to keep things fresh for players. This game oozes creativity and passion for the IP, while also offering great controls and level design. I admittedly still suck at 2D Sonic and experienced another fair share of rage, but that was more so from my own abilities rather than a fault of the game itself. If there was any critique I have, it would be that I wish there were more original stages instead of mostly remixed ones.

Its the first sonic game i played through and beat! Its pretty good. It's a really hard game but its the most difficult the first time you play it. Im a big time mario fan and didnt grow up playing much sonic games but this one is a fantastic first sonic game to play and beat

I LOVE SONIC MANIA!!!! I Love the game-play, the music, the style, the animations, the FEELING of extreme fun whenever I press play. This game is extremely replayable, the level design is as fun as it gets, the characters are very well thought out(powers, game-play mechanics) and I feel like everything i do in this game results in a big ass grin on my face, because everything has been thought out by the developers, so every second is filled with fun and excitement.

Piece of shit game worked perfectly fine last time I played it however many years ago, now it crashes if you DARE to try to put it in fullscreen without fail every time. Waste of god damn disk space.

Beautiful art direction and every soundtrack slaps. Levels can be hard to navigate and easy to get lost. Extra annoying when you lose all lives before the boss; have to restart at the first act of the zone you're playing.

Good game for speedrunners would recommend, trust I got a time of 2:12:34 Minutes total when Speedrunning sonic mania green hill zone act 1

The colorful backgrounds, superb soundtrack and most of all the creativity on the game design and mechanics. It really deserves all the praise it has. I'm loving this game♥♥

Best sonic project we've gotten since generations and it wasn't from sonic team. As someone who has 0 faith in current sonic team to make a good game... or even a good remake, it's insane to me that they didn't get these guys back to make more, especially consider Origins was built of the backs of these fans, and they didn't even let them handle the whole project. Ridiculous. Anyways, this IS the true successor of Sonic 3 and not a single 2D game since has come close.

I enjoy quite a lot of this game the only downside I can find is that they reuse zones from past games in the classic era, but they reuse them with a twist added onto it and the new zones are good and the ost is great

2D Sonic at its finest. One of my favorite Sonic games. The physics feel great, soundtrack is phenomenal, animations are fluid and pretty and level design is imaculate and undeniably Sonic. The original zones are creative and very visually appealing, especially Studiopolis and Press Garden, while the reused zones have a nice fresh coat of paint.
The only negative part of the game is how many reused zones there are in comparison to the original ones. The game would have been even better if there were only fully original zones.

Overall, an extremely fun game. 9/10

If there is one thing about this game, It's better than the trash heap known as sonic superstars. I've recently owned the game on the switch and I have over 300 hours in it, but I bought it on here because I had spare money and I could mod it. Let me say, it's probably one of the best 2D platformers I've played, if not the best games overall. Good price, and don't get me started on how good the base game on its own is.

It contains Knuckles! Therefore it is an amazing game! Knuckles/Knuckles! Would recommend! & Knuckles Mode makes this game even better than it otherwise would of been!

This is how you do a retro styled sequel. The experience of playing Sonic Mania for the first time as a lifelong Sega fanatic was euphoric. There is so much love poured into every little detail with callbacks to all sorts of Sega history. The new zones are some of the best in Sonic history and I'm impressed with how unique and creative they are. The returning stages as well are better than ever with a clever way of having the first act be a "best-of" containing moments from all the levels in that zone in previous games, and the second act being a completely new take on that location with new mechanics introduced such as setting Oil Ocean on fire. Even if you're not a series fan, this is such a solid and grounded take on a momentum based platformer that it excels beyond the fan service to being a standout in the genre as a whole.

Sonic Mania is a joy to play from start to finish and a new all time personal favorite. The massive mod scene as well makes this game something that is a blast to return to and an always evolving experience.

I grew up primarily on the Genesis-era Classics, and this game certainly does pay homage to them! I adored it, there were so many familiar levels and songs that had new twists on them, but left enough nostalgia that I found myself smiling and getting excited every time a familiar tune or zone popped up.

I've especially enjoyed getting my fiance to play it with me, as she never experienced the classics growing up the way I did. It's nice to be able to share this with her now in a fun new way. ♥

The only disappointment I have is in myself as even as a now fully grown adult with years of gaming experience... I still can't beat those darn special stages half the time.

If you are looking for a Sonic game that you enjoyed back in the early 90's from the Genesis days this is the game to scratch that itch. Though I can't say this is a continuation of the Genesis games as this is more of a "Greatest Hits" version of Sonic with a couple new levels & music put in (although the new levels and especially music is FANTASTIC) the game is fast & fun, has a lot of secrets such as chaos emeralds bonus stages and different paths to complete each stage. This game screams replayability and I would also recommend the DLC as the two new characters are really fun to play as. Whether you enjoy 2D platformers or want a dose of nostalgia I would give this game a go!

I love it as have always been a Sonic and Mario fan this game is the classic sonic 1 2 3 renewed and should be sonic 4 if the position was not taken. The levels are well thought out and not just put together on the sly but some work has gone into making the game feel and act like the original titles did and it shows in the game play. I would recommend for anyone but in particular those who grow up during the mega drive era as you will really appreciate this game, thank you Sega.

It's the best Sonic game to come out in well over a decade. Played it a bunch on PS4 but it ran great on Steam Deck too.

Sonic Mania is my favorite game ever made. Period. I had this game on my PS4 since launch, and its the game that I replayed the most amount of times in my whole life. If Generations was a celebration of everything Sonic, Mania is a celebration of everything classic Sonic. Godspeed Mr. Whitehead and everyone who has ever worked on this game, its crystal clear how much you love the blue blur!

Sonic Mania is no doubt amazing and the love for it is justified.
In a nutshell:
Back to the Classics with the OG Classic controls, returning zones revamped, colorful and appealing sprite work, music, and it's cool animated adventures.
EVEN the mod support for this game is awesome.
However, what is stopping me from calling this game the best is the returning stages.
While I love old zones coming back (not oil ocean), I'd love the game more if it was just comprised of only new zones we have never seen.
It was cool when Sonic Gens first did it. It made sense due to the story and since well that was an anniversary.
This happening for a 2nd time within the span of like 6 years and Forces doing the same thing really isn't cool.
So much room for more, yet nostalgia blocks the way.

II love the Sonic franchise and being able to replay levels with new mechanics, like the Chemical Plant zone, or new levels, like the mirage saloon, is incredible. But the game has a negative point: it constantly crashes during the game, I ended up losing some chaos emeralds because of this.
Anyway, this is a very good game and you should definitely buy it

What do I need to say that hasn’t already been said? This game is an absolute joy to play. From the speed, to the worlds, to the bosses, it’s an entry in the franchise where they pulled out all the stops. I STRONGLY recommend you get this game if you want more of the 2D era of Sonic.

Fantastic game. The only problem is it is on the short side while Sonic 3 & Knuckles was longer than Mania, still a great game.
