best classic sonic game besides sonic cd. s3&k dick riders can fuck off because even sonic 2 is better then s3&k and you canNOT tell me that s3&k is better than mania bro. nothin bad to say about mania its literally perfect besides the super sonic end boss fight it kinda sucked

It's one of the best sonic games you can ever play if you liked other 2D sonic games. it has all of the pros of the older games and made a new package with new levels and characters that you probably didn't see before.
another thing is Sonic mania is challenging like older sonic games you may don't want to take that time an repeat levels over and over again. I suggest try the game to understand if you like the challenging parts or not.

I really loved this game at first. It was very much like the original Sonic games, but also keeping it fresh. It was challenging but not fun or unfair. However the last zone is IMO one long cheap shot at the player. It changes gears from all previous zones of the game and just hits you with cheap shot after cheap shot and game mechanics that are inconsistent. I'm not sure why they changed the formula for the last zone but after many many attempts it was no longer fun and I was unable to finish the game.

In addition the save feature is poorly thought out. It only saves after completion of each zone. It does not save after individual acts, nor save points. That is also no manual save. This makes if difficult to play for people who can only play a little her and a little there.

If you are a casual gamer who enjoyed the old Sonic Games avoid this game.

Sonic Mania is great. I am a fan of classic Sonic game play and this game really scratched that itch for me since Sega prefers modern Sonic, but this game proves to me that Sega needs to make more games with classic Sonic.

it's a good celebration of the old sonic games with amazing visuals, ost, animations and feel. but it's not this groundbreaking, genre defining masterpiece that many call it (i had extremely high expectations for better or worse, they were met mostly but it is a bit overhyped) all of the classic sonic bs is still present, like dying to a platform because you are 1 pixel too far away from the object hitbox and die and have to start over, stuff like that, so if you dont enjoy that kind of thing i dont think this game will win you over, otherwise it is a very very fun good game, but that's it
also, i feel like near the half way point of the game there is wayy too much going on, like seriously i couldn't catch my breath. i felt genuine sensory overload at times, you go from "oh yea remember this tetris bean machine whatever game we made here u go" to "ok so remember that cool rival robot guy from cd yea hes back oh and also here's that other robot guy from the crappy game gear game" don't get me wrong it was fkin awesome but all of it genuinely felt like a blur (maybe that was the point) anywho i recommend it if you like classic sonic gameplay. oh yeah and fk the chaos emerald minigame

This game is genuinely one of the greatest platformers of the past decade, and also is just such a fantastic value in general. It is worth it. Still better than Superstars and a much better price.

i'ts really good especially with the debug menu that you can only get from being in plus and doing the code up up down down up up up up then you will hear a ring sound but you have to do the code when you first see sonic and you have to do it really fast

Mania, also known as manic syndrome, is a psychiatric behavioral syndrome defined as a state of abnormally elevated arousal, affect, and energy level. During a manic episode, an individual will experience rapidly changing emotions and moods, highly influenced by surrounding stimuli.

The biggest flaw with this game is that it wasn't made up of fully original levels and didn't have as much of a compelling narrative to contextualize its levels as Sonic 3 & Knuckles. In addition, it doesn't innovate upon or evolve the mechanics or moveset of 2D Sonic to the degree that games like the Sonic Advance series did (besides the drop dash, which is a great addition to the Sonic franchise). That said, this is easily one of the most polished and well-made Sonic games ever made, and a must-play for anyone who enjoys the classic Sonic games.

short and sweet game with good character variety. Out of the main 3 none are that much better than the other and the extra's you can get with the dlc are fun to mess with. lots of replay value especially with the achievement hunting

good music, fun levels, somewhat questionable boss design (im looking at hydro city act 2) but overall good, colorful galore with every pixel, sensory overload in the best way possible,.. this is classic sonic at his best.

Not as fun as I expected it to be, but still pretty good. Especially for a Sonic game.

When Sega were at their all time low this game was for sure a diamond in the ruff it is such a great way to bring back the classic characters and to as well reintroduce the duo Ray & Mighty in which my favorite character to play in sonic mania was for sure knuckles, and mighty but over all great game 9/10

i genuinely don't think there will ever be another game like Sonic Mania

Game is really really good would highly reccomend playing with it however if you are really used to playing with WASD i would reccomend connecting a controller to your device to play it also sometimes this may just be a me problem but the zones are sometimes quite long and yk im not the best not even close so sometimes the time just runs out when im tryna beat the zone other than that and some minor bugs its a very good and polished game would reccomend (sorry if i spelled stuff wrong im 1)

actual review: the stages can be really hard for a not experienced sonic players, so mabye some accessability options would be better, but still a great game nontheless

Getting the chaos emeralds is annoying and the stages near the end are a little time consuming but the game is fun

This game almost made me cry. And no, not because it's peak; I went for all gold medals on the Blue Sphere stages and went insane.

Beautiful game. It is a bit challenging, but still fun.

The best standalone 2D Sonic game ever made, and probably the best Sonic game of all time. It's basically a greatest hits of all the Genesis games combined into 1 game with a few new zones and levels. The level design has been tweaked so that there are no cheap deaths, and having multiple characters gives the game a lot of replay value. Sonic Origins may have more content with all the original games, but for the price, it's a really fun time. Highly recommended.

Instant classic of the platforming genre. Immediately replayable, with amazing music, pixel art, controls, and more. Even if you're not a Sonic die-hard like I am, this game will scratch that itch for the better games of yesteryear. Phenomenal game, highly recommend.

If you haven't played this game already in the past SEVEN YEARS of this being out (Damn I'm old). Play it. PLAY IT. This is one of the best sonic games next to unleashed, 3&K and Sonic X Shadow Generations, and SA2. Omg I love this so much. Please buy it.

Probably the best Sonic game since the OG Genesis/Megadrive trilogy

While not as peak as the double cartridge Sonic 3&K, this is still a great game. A stellar 2D platformer that can run on anything from a Wii U to a PSP to even a Dreamcast! Oh, and did I mention you can install mods for it? That's always a major plus.

I'm just going to echo everyone saying this is the best 2d sonic game, it feels so old school despite not being THAT old... It's really fun and I recommend it. I don't have too much to really say beyond that, it's just a great game!

IDK why I haven't rated the game before but this is what I would of said when I got it this game brings back childhood bc I play the frik outta the old sonic games and this is pure nostalgia the artwork amazing with a banger remixes are crazy good

Sonic mania is christian whitehead and teams love letter the golden age of hard 2d sonic games. This game lives up to the hype and if u want a solid 2d title that could belong right on the mega drive/genesis alongside the original trilogy then this is the game for you. 8.5/10

Jogaço, só que é tão ou mais dificil que o sonic do Mega Drive, dado que depois do 'game over' vc nao começa do zero, pode dar load no inicio da zona. Se você gostar de dark souls e de passar raiva jogando, vc vai gostar.

Segue sendo o bom e velho Sonic de plataforma frenética inercial, pixelado e com arte muito parecida, do jeitinho que a gente gosta.
Refizeram levels clássicos e reeditaram de leve a trilha sonora, tá muito bom. Me surpreendi (positivamente). Deram uma brisada no level pra pegar as esmeraldas, virou um jogo de corrida 3D virado na bala e no cogumelo, ta complicado, mas acho que level de esmeralda só foi mais acessível no Sonic 1 e 2. Depois vc só consegue as 7 se for doente da cabeça ou salvar no emulador.

Mesmo assim, tem valido a pena jogar.

Special stages are so annoying and hard, but one of the best sonic games of all time.

This game is fun I normally hate the difficulty of sonic games because I'm trash but for $20 it's a solid game.

Probably the best sonic game in the past two decades

The new levels are creative and the old ones are familiar but given a modern twist to make them unique. The only issue I have with the game is that it's too easy - I played it as Sonic & Tails (the default option) and had one death throughout my whole playthrough (although I did play the game years ago on consoles, so it might be that)

As is widely known, this is a great Sonic game. I agree but will point out what makes this (maybe) not the best Sonic ever.

The worst I've found is that the new levels have issues with proper contrast on the colors of enemies, which integrate too well and are quite hard to spot. This is something that never happened on Sega games: every enemy clearly popped out, except where intentionally hidden. So it is a bit annoying.

A minor nitpick is that the visuals seem inspired by emulation players, being way too saturated and quite far off what was displayed on CRTs way back. Mostly the characters and re-used levels, new designs are well balanced.

The other thing is that the new level designs seem to lean on more on Sonic CD style levels, going for being more of the very extensive type instead of being small but more challenging.
Since I'm more of a fan of Sonic of the smaller designs, I don't enjoy the new levels as much. If that is also your case, I think Sonic 4 ep 2 fits that style better, with new gameplay also. Another is Sonic Triple Trouble 16bit, which is a shame Sega doesn't pick up and publish themselves.

This is also a cool game for team play, with Tails being player 2 and being very relevant to boss fights.

Either way, after going through the levels, the Boss designs are great and the whole presentation is very good. Great music, great graphics and gameplay. Nobody that likes platform games should miss this one.
