Seems redundant to review this version of Sonic Generations, as it has been delisted in favor of Sonic X Shadow Generations, but I have thoughts, and I'll keep them brief.
Sonic Generations is an amazing love letter to history of the little Blue Blur. Now I am not a big Sonic fan, I played Sonic 2 on the Genesis years ago, and Sonic Heroes on the Gamecube, but even then never really enjoyed them. And now, I still don't really enjoy the gameplay/game feel of these games. They are too floaty and awkward to control.
All of that being said, I do adore Sonic's theme. The music, character designs, character personalities, etc. It's all very charming. Although Sonic is not for me, the franchise is a large pillar in the gaming industry, and I am very glad that it is. I will be incredibly disheartened if Sonic ceases to be.
I give Sonic Generations:
7 Chaos Emeralds out of 10
Again, not a fan of Sonic's Gameplay in general, but this game has some solid level designs and incredible level themes that spans all of Sonic history, and as such, it is a great time.
Who's much more better and faster than any platformers out there?
The answer is so obvious.
Who's got the attitude but still likable though can be a bit annoying and yet still tolerable?
Yeah, cuteness does that to society.
Which of the game characters so far has already released not just one, but three almost immediately mid consecutive excellent movies within the years and all of them are watchable yet still maintain the gaming aspect and not stray too far from the original source?
Well, surely you definitely know who.
:3
This game is perfectly mashed the original with the modern version flawlessly. With decent plot and cool soundtracks and stages that are so nostalgically beautiful. It will be worth it to spend your precious time with this one, from start to finish.
...and lastly; this guy, or should I say hedgehog. Is the main reason why I defected from an 8-bit fan to a 16-bit aficionado.
Sorry, plumber bros. But thanks anyway for introducing me to an enjoyable platformer game of the 80s.
It's true that Sega does what Nintendon't.
So, yeah..
X3
Time flies and I just realized that I have reach the 200th reviews with this one. Surely still far from the end and will write more about every games I come across to enjoy. Be it solo or with my buddies, on the couch and also worldwide online.
Thank you so much, Devil's Details and SEGA!
Please keep on make more enjoyable games for us. We'll always be waiting and wholeheartedly support you.

Great game, although I HIGHLY recommend Sonic X Shadow Generations since its a remake of this version with added content for Shadow.
Good game, but some of the levels are a little iffy, and the final boss is slow and boring. Just get past some of the standard sega bugs, and you will have fun if you like sonic.
this situation is pretty hilarious imo. Look! I am recommending you to play the vanilla version of sonic generations, and guess what? you cant! They de-listed it you morons. i bet you feel like a real loser now, dontcha? man, i'd hate to be you.
I don't know why i didn't buy Sonic X Shadow gen but anyways REALLY great game i love it but i HATE planet wisp (classic sonic mostly) modern's sucks but not really AND the Omochao but other then that AMAZING game.
I'm glad this is still available through a collection so you can play the great mods for this game
please check out the Classic Sonic Improvements mod by Showin
The Perfect Blend of Past and Present – A Love Letter to Sonic Fans
Sonic Generations is an absolute treat for any fan of the series. This game perfectly blends the best of both worlds—giving us the thrill of experiencing classic 2D Sonic in iconic 3D stages and vice versa. It truly feels like a "greatest hits" collection, celebrating Sonic’s rich history in the most fun and creative way possible. From the exhilarating level design to the satisfying challenges and collectibles, every aspect of the game kept me engaged. The red star rings add an extra layer of replayability, making each level worth revisiting. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the franchise, this game offers a fantastic experience from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed everything this game had to offer, and I’d highly recommend it to any player, veteran or newcomer! 9.5/10
gotta go slow (random frame drops that dont happen in any other sonic game) but its still peak
crashes every time on my steam deck. not optimized as stated.
very good game, planet wisp is way too long and the final boss is ass
I've played the original generations 100/10 but with the SONIC unleashed mod i'm have SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!
lol i bought the game in the past and then refunded cuz it didnt let me play due to no controller and for some reason i can post a review lol
a shame nobody will ever see this review because the only way to buy the 2011 version is through a bundle now
The best 3D Sonic as far as I'm concerned.
Remember Playing It On My Nintendo 2DS As A Kid And It Was Amazing Then And It's Still Amazing Now, The Variety The Mix Of 3D And 2D And Challenge Modes + Speed-running It's Hands Down The Best Sonic Game. 🦔🥰
Unleashed has the best boost stages of any sonic game. What do you mean this is a review for sonic generations? Buy this game, get the unleashed project and a few unleashed tweak mods and delve into some of the most re-playable level's you'll ever play
I don't get why this game is so praised, like seriously, this game is EXTREMELY GLITCHY and the PC controls freaking suck, especially when playing as modern sonic. The game crashed like 4 times from all my 5 hours of playtime, and I rooftop run as classic sonic everything simply turned invisible from nothing, and even reseting the level wouldn't fix it, it's pratically unplayable.
It's also a very short game, with only 9 levels and an EMBARASSING final boss fight, and also that stupid mechanic that forces you to do useless missions in order to be able to access the bosses, the only missions I liked was the minibosses (Btw metal sonic and shadow fights were more fun than all the 4 bosses of this game, probably the only time I had an actual fun playing this game😭)
Not to mention this game is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED, it only worth the money for sonic adventure 1 and 2, because this game honestly? it freaking sucks. I genuinely don't understand why so many people like sonic generations, even Sonic Adventure DX was more fun than this old yee-yee ass game, don't play it. I'm hoping Sonic X Shadow generations will going to be better than this, hope SEGA change the game name to SONIC MIDNERATIONS. 💜
It's good
Good ole Modern sonic fun
Classic sonic fucking sucks though
Casino Night Pinball is actually amazing. One of the greatest experiences in gaming. (Not lying or rage-baiting) The rest of the game isn't a slouch either, with amazing music, graphics, and level design, it's by far the best Sonic game. (I haven't played the remaster yet)
This game is very fun and very enjoyable, plus Sonic X Shadow Generations
Absolutely one of my favourite sonic games ever made. Period. Loved it back when I first played it when I was six and I still love it now. The boost gameplay is the great highlight as it was in unleashed but with further improvements, and classic sonic while not having genesis-accurate physics (definitely not at the level of sonic 4 lol) is still a lot of fun. If you do end up getting bored of the main-game content there are over a decade's worth of mods that you can try out to add more content to the game.
But enough about shilling, play Sonic Generations. It's probably one of the best Sonic games to have come out during the 2010's, and a lot of fun.
The Best sonic game ever the gameplay and story are AMAZING but he only negative I have is the time eater boss I would recommend looking it up but other than that its still a 10/10
This is one of the first and only sonic games I've owned and played.
I bought a good while after it launched on PC, yet it somehow instilled a sense of "nostalgia" within me, despite not being a sonic fan.
(I highly recommend you install the mod that makes classic sonic control better, that's my only real complaint)
Definetly my favorite 3D Sonic game. Fast, well designed, fun. Sadly it lacks a coherent story and a satisfying final boss. Classic Sonic is broken but nontheless fun. The sidemissions are pretty underrated in my opinion. Awesome celebration of Sonics history and sadly the last good game for quite a while.( Play Sonic X Shadow Generations, the Shadow portions are so much fun!).
I honestly can’t see why people praise this game. It’s super frustrating, controls are sluggish and the game is also full of artificial playtime extenders (collectibles, uninteresting challenges etc). The sections in 2D are ok, but the third person ones are crazily bad. Your worst enemy is camera and hit boxes, together with bad game design choices. Maybe the console version was better and it’s just a bad pc port, dunno. I played it on steam deck, and the game feels very bad on its controller. Not to mention bizarre bugs and freezes. Oh yeah, the frame rate and resolution are very low, doesn’t matter what machine you’re running the game on. Don’t buy this and stay away, honestly.
Maybe the remake is better, I dunno.
Solid sonic game, nothing too crazy. Both sonics control good and the music as always is top tier. The final boss felt kinda dissapointing but all other parts are fun so it's alright.
You can have fun while playing it so that's the most important thing.
Sometimes my controller just disconnects from the game and the only fix is to close and open the game, so that's a tad bit annoying.
Sad that Sega took away the ability to buy the game individually (all games in the bundle are great but putting sonic 4 there was a crime).
There's also Sonic x Shadow Generations which I've heard is great, so buy that if your wallet can handle it. I wish mine could.
This game is peak, but before I begin glazing this game, just a reminder about this bundle: It is grossly overpriced .I love Adventure 1 and 2, and I’d say they're mostly worth their prices, as is Generations. Sonic 4 episode 2 is overpriced, but fine enough. However, Sonic 4 Episode 1 is a complete trash-tier videogame and not even worth a fraction of its price. They should be PAYING you to play it. This bundle just exists to get you to pay for both Sonic 4 eps. Their collective price really inflates the cost of the whole bundle. This collection of games just isn’t worth it at this price. Wait for a 25% sale or something. At least then you can take it as an opportunity to buy Adventure 1 and 2, if you haven’t already.
If you Just wanna play generations, and are willing to pay upwards of 50? Just get SxS Gens. It’s the complete package, and has the best new Sonic experience since the OG Generations in 2011.
(in light of how much i dislike this bundle, i probably should have made my review negative, but i just couldn't do that to Generations)
This game Is one of the greatest 3d platformers ever made
and I played it to near death on my series x (it has a 60fps boost on there). There’s 11 awesome levels (not Planet Wisp) with 2 main ‘acts’ each, with a bunch of bonus levels and bosses for each area. By mixing the boost gameplay and classic gameplay, each level feels distinct from one another and are all worth individual replays. Sure, there’s a bit much 2d, but it tends to serve the levels well, as most levels are superbly paced and tightly designed, to the point where you can easily play a level for hours and hours and still discover better routes (I only recently learned that you can run across the water at the start of seaside hill to reach a shortcut). On average, this game may take 5-7 hours to complete the main levels, and maybe 15 hours if you wanted to complete everything. Considering just how short and sweet each level is, that completion time is definitely worth shooting for. And between the dozens of great stage mods (namely, the Unleashed project), you can easily clock hundreds of hours into this. On that note, it is definitely worthwhile to get this version of the game, old as it may be (i mean, it’s got a crusty launcher). Y’see a lot of the older mods may never be ported to the new Sonic gens remaster, ‘cos a lot of modders have probably left the scene since their mods were created. Either way, since Shadow gens is so new, the focus is probably gonna be on modding for his campaign, instead of porting mods to Sonic gens. So chances are, it'll still be worth it to own this copy of the game, even years from now.
(this is more subjective, but i also dislike the blue filter SxS gens smeared all over Sonic’s levels. Like, it ain’t too bad, but i really notice it in Green hill and Speed Highway)
The game is very fun and has great stages. If you play it with mods I suggest using Hedgemodmanager because it runs all types of mods from skins to levels and it keeps me going in this game. If you want to play more content and remade stages from other sonic games then use hedgemodmanager.
Something that baffles me is that changing the resolution breaks the game, and it requires you to delete the graphics config file to fix this,... very annoying.
no support for resolutions outside 16:9
And very much reluctant to put the controller you're using first....
sometimes loading in just completely wrong, causing framerate pacing and simply ignoring inputs,... reloading fixes this but imagine losing a life because you want to fix a problem
all things things that can take away the fun of this game, so much potential... but flawed...
why this game is marked as verified for deck is A mystery to me....
Wont run no matter what operating system or hardware I use it on. Waste of money.
Do NOT buy the bundle that this game is in if you only want this game from it, just buy SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS. It makes this game BETTER, AND adds an amazing Shadow campaign.
it was strangely unstable for me and i would recommend getting sonic x shadow generations instead as it comes with it. I also believe that the boost era was when sonic was very mediocre. I will always say SA1 is best sonic. It's disgusting that this was delisted though and sonic x shadow generations should've gotten a half off permanent sale for those that already own this as there is very little added in that version and most of it is cutscene changes, if anything i'd have just separated them on steam and made it a bundle and updated this version.
This game is a classic, if you like Sonic i suggest getting this game or its remake Sonic X shadow Generations
This game has its glitches - and even using an xbox controller there are some things which are a bit tedious - however, its super fun and does a great tribute to Sonic games. Its super addictive.
EDIT: I just saw this released in 2011- the animation and graphics are way ahead of their time I thought this came out three years ago.
Sonic Generations is arguably the BEST Sonic game that the franchise offers. Smooth controls, stunning visuals, fantastic level design, and amazing gameplay - players will want to come back and replay the game over and over again. This is a great Sonic game that celebrates the character and will ensure that Sonic fans new and old will have a great time.
its pretty sigma but at this point just get the more skbidi alpha version on sigma p diddy
It's Sonic Generations, one of the best games in the series with nearly unlimited modding potential, it's absolutely worth a shot for the gameplay alone
its a awesome game and defintly with mods after u finish the game tho
You might as well get the X shadow version to get all the content now.
Just a shame if you want the new campaign they made it so you had to buy a game you already own 2/3rd of instead of letting you buy a DLC or just Shadow Generations being its own slightly cheaper game.
Theres nothing wrong with this version, works great on steam deck, controls well just ultimately incomplete now.
Sonic Generations is one of the best iterations of the boost Sonic gameplaystyle that exists!
You can definitely see that it is a bit older nowadays, the graphics aren't as crisp as you will see in newer titles, but the game itself still plays and looks very good!
It is very easy and simple to get into aswell, so its a treat for newcomers and veterans alike!
In this game you play as either modern or classic sonic. While I do prefer the modern style, this games classic sonic isn't too bad, it controls pretty good, even if not perfect compared to the classic 2d games. Definitely plays a lot better than in forces, thats for sure!
Ths spindash of classic sonic is very overpowered here and if you jump just after spindashing and hold the stick in just the right direction, you'll be flying over very large portions of the stages. It feels very nice to do so, but it is sad that you don't really see much of a stage that way. The normal gameplay is fun too, so I'd recommend everyone to try and find all the red rings!
This holds true for modern Sonic aswell, the controls are very nice, though I do gotta say, if you played newer titles, it feels like a doublejump is missing. The stages are made without that in mind though, so its all pretty much just an issue of having gotten used to something even more... heh, modern.
The stagedesign for both Sonics are nice, I really like the challenges aswell and I think the only way to play this, is to try and get an S rank on everything, it isn't that hard in this game!
You will definitely have fun playing through this, even if it is a little bit dated by now!
Sonic Generation but in good, while the Port isnt as good as SXSG, it runs better, plays better and doesnt have Ian cringe ass writing, if you can get this version somehow i recommend it over the shit that is SXSG which is just a bad remaster with a Bad smaller game attached to it
this is a great game classic sonics levels are a good replication of the og levels and modern sonic is also done very well here. the story is kinda mid, but still, great game. 9/10
My favorite sonic game by far. This game introduces sonic and his younger self teaming up to beat two Eggmen. This game has amazing level design and gives me nostalgia every time I play it. The best sonic game I have ever played.
A little buggy, Sonic feels very heavy in both playstyles but i especially hate classic Sonic for he feels nothing like he did in the genesis games.
The story is garbage, as per the period this released in (if you know, you know.)
But a good time overall. Definitely recommend.
shimmh shimmy ice shimmy ice shimmy yaaaaahh drake swalalalaaa
One of the most solid "boost formula" sonic games, however it's still a boost game. Linear, slightly boring. Classic stages are cool, but classic sonic's physics are kinda wacky. That said - I did thoroughly enjoy my time with this game. I had a lot of fun with the challenge levels, the story was solid and had its funny moments. It's a really fun game! Solid 7/10.
it has a classic Sonic feel, along with the modern Sonic play. It addresses there being two versions of Sonic, or
at least acknowledges there being different Sonics. It is fun to play.
Game is really good buy it if u cant afford x shadow
You see this negative review and you wonder what I don't like about it. That's the thing. It's great. But SEGA went and added this game as part of Sonic X Shadow Generations. So if you get that Sonic X Shadow Generations game instead, you get this game AND a second campaign starring Shadow the Hedgehog.
So I do recommend Sonic Generations, just not this version of it.
