Super Meat Boy Forever takes place a few years after the events of Super Meat Boy. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have been living a happy life free of Dr. Fetus for several years and they now have a wonderful little baby named Nugget. Nugget is joy personified and she is everything to Meat Boy and Bandage Girl. One day while our heroes were on a picnic, Dr. Fetus snuck up on them, beat Meat Boy and Bandage Girl unconscious with a shovel and kidnapped Nugget! When our heroes came to and found that Nugget was missing, they knew who to go after. They cracked their knuckles and decided to never stop until they got Nugget back and taught Dr. Fetus a very important lesson. A lesson that can only be taught with punches and kicks.

Great sequel to Super Meat Boy , the tons of retro game reference are really cool and even keeping Tofu Boy as a playable character is really funny. If your looking for a difficult plat-former with lots of unlock's, Super Meat Boy Forever is a great choice

This game is not like the original, it is a endless runner-esque where you cannot move meat boy around. This game has a really good art direction, it just doesn't fit well with the game. The story line is all over the place and weird.
Process of Elimination
While I wouldn't consider Super Meat Boy Forever to be a bad game in a vacuum, it is absolutely not a worthy successor. In it's own efforts to simplify its fundamentals to fit into its new endless-runner format, it only reduces and subtracts by that same token. The game also attempts to boldly push it's own luck by incorporating some of the most frustratingly dreadful boss fights in any game I've ever played. When you make it so that the simple act of facing the other direction a limited-use in-game power-up, you likely screwed up somewhere.
+ Satisfying level interactables that contribute to creative gimmicks and overlays
+ Wonderful presentation that faithfully preserves the original's Flash-era charm
- Restrictive controls and level design that feel needlessly reductive
- Ungodly abysmal boss fights that simply don't work for an auto-runner

Reluctantly played this game first in 2022. and got to Chapter 2 and the game really didn't impress me first because, you know, it's a Super Meat Boy, the second part, and it's an AUTO-RUNNER, like are you serious now, after all these years, so I closed the game off.
While I was digesting the fact that it's an auto-runner, cause I really couldn't get used to the fact that I can't change directions when I run or jump, I played some other games, even went on a gaming hiatus, then back to playing games, then I started longing for the Super Meat Boy fix (yes I'm addicted) so I opened this game and little by little started passing one level, two, three and boom now I can't get my hands off this.
Later levels are so g-damn fun, there are so many innovative elements to it, they topped it to the brim. Game has 6 levels in every chapter and EVERY level has new platforming element with unique property and that brings a LOT of posibilities for really contrived fun levels which are in fact puzzly in nature. You have to turn on your brain to pass some of these contraptions.
Regarding the design, levels are seeded, when you press new game you won't get any two same levels.
Every level is broken down into about less than 10 chunks and there are 5000 chunks total that the devs made, so because of the unique elements of every level, every level has it's own predetermined pool of chunks that it takes from and arranges into a level, so every level has a pool of 5000 divided by total number of levels equals number of chunks predisposed for that level.
Regarding the achievements and collectibles
For fellow achievement hunters like me, for 100% you have to pass everything S rank, unlock every character and collect every pacifier but there's a catch, listen close.
To collect every pacifier you need 90 of them but there's only 30 generated in New Game, and when you pass last chapter you have an option to play New Game+ and it makes so that you begin completely from the start, with only number of pacifiers collected and characters unlocked, but all levels are locked again and it generates 30 new pacifiers to collected but DON'T DO IT YET.
Here's the catch: when you play the first New Game, every chunk has difficulty rating from 1 to 7, and first New Game generates chunks from all range of difficulty 1-7, BUT New Game+ generates ONLY difficulties 4-7, so first collected everything on your first playthrough, get all S-rank AND BEAT ALL NO DEATH RUNS!!!
The original Super Meat Boy was about precision and control. Two things which Forever lacks because it's an auto-runner.
Instead of dodging hazards as they come, the best course of action is to just throw yourself at every trap until you make it past.
In the original, you died because you mistimed a jump or didn't dodge a hazard. Factors which are entirely your fault. Forever doesn't allow to to dodge hazards effectively because you CAN'T CONTROL YOUR MOVEMENT. In fact, calling them controls implies you can CONTROL your movements.
Skip this absolute disaster. Play the original and never touch this trainwreck of a sequel!
Extremely disappointed. I was a huge fan of the original Super Meat Boy and was looking forward to playing this game, but as with most of the other negative reviews, the auto-run killed the fun for me. Actually, the uncontrollable auto-running wasn't necessarily the worst part, it was the fact that your character can change direction and run backwards into oblivion, on top of the uncontrollable auto-running. Maybe there's a way to change this, but I do not care because I hate the auto-run feature. My review can be changed to Positive if the mechanics were drastically changed to make this the non-auto-running sequel the fan base deserves and what should have been some of the easiest $$$ for the developers to get. Fingers crossed this game ends up being a New Coca Cola vs Coca Cola Classic kind of story.

I go to start the game and I'm greeted with a 'seed'. You're telling me you put randomly generated slop in a platformer?

The art is a pretty good tho. Repurpose these assets into a real game with proper controls and no RNG in the campaign mode.
This game stinks and is one of the worst auto-runners that I've ever played. I wish we got a true Meat Boy 2, but that might not ever happen...
Not a bad game, but def it doesnt compare to the original, and of course i wasnt a fan of the auto running, still the game its decent, its good to burn some time when bored

I'll make this a recommended review so as to not be harsh. I don't outright hate this game, but I can understand why people think this isn't a sequel. I'm probably making assumptions here, but while the whole "auto-runner + precision platformer" idea is very interesting in its own way, I think it should be known that auto-runners are known to give you less reaction time to be able to move around precisely, and personally, the way the screen moves can be a bit disorienting for me at times.
Additionally, sometimes, when tapping the Jump key a second time in the air, my character will just not dash for some reason. And before I'm suggested to "get a better keyboard", I'm using a pretty decent keyboard and, even with a brand new keyboard that came with the Windows 11 computer I got recently this year, the controls sometimes stall for a moment. Maybe that's supposed to be part of the game and I'm just nitpicking at it a bit too much? I don't know.
However, the game does have its upsides. The animation is absolutely epic, in my honest opinion. Paul ter Voorde did an outstanding job with the details and stuff, and it makes the scenes seem powerful in a way, especially the emotional scenes. Especially the emotional scenes. While I think Edmund's art style from the first game is not only nostalgic, but made the game very iconic, I also like Paul's art style in Forever, as the characters' movements seem more accentuated. There are probably some people who think otherwise, though, but this is just my opinion on it. You're free to like what you like, and dislike what you dislike.
Just like the first game (as evidenced by my review for it), I am absolutely loving the inclusion of a level editor, again, albeit separated from the base game. As an avid and eccentric fan of these types of things, I cannot and will not complain about it. Like Super Meat Boy's editor, though, it will take some getting used to, for me, but being able to make, test out and play absolute bangers is the best thing I could ever imagine.
While I still think Super Meat Boy is better, since I love platformers and being able to move my character around instead of in a single direction consistently, I think this game is pretty cool in its own way, and there's nothing wrong about that.
Being a fan of Edmund McMillen's work, it's difficult to rate this game. Without him, the gameplay has been watered down by a lot and plays similarly to mobile endless runners, but I'm very happy that at least they didn't make it into an ACTUAL mobile cashgrab and instead used this concept into developing a normal game with levels and so on.
The actual levels are composed by handmade segments joined together algorithmically and supposedly by your skill level, but I don't think its dynamic enough nor it adds too much replay value because in the end it's almost like the same thing.
The game is way easier than the original and the level design is much more based on trial and error than pure skill, so it's only natural to pass a level just memorizing what to do after dying than actually trying to understand the controls and schematics of each stage.
Surprinsingly, the story and the well animated cutscenes are very charismatic and pretty, with Nugget and Squirrel being both adorable new additions to the cast. All in all, it may not do justice to McMillen's work, but still holds up as a fun enough follow-up.
this is the most shitty ass game I have ever played because of the stupid auto running that made me mess up every time and I don't know what kind of crack the creators were on when they made a random seed generator. I was really upset the super meat boy went shit. NEVER waste your money on this game, just go buy other games like Bioshock, or Half Life 2.
I do not normally leave bad reviews, but this game is a hot pile of garbage. It feels like the people who worked on this didn’t even play the first one. I pushed myself to try to enjoy it in order to revive good memories of the OG Super Meat Boy, but it was a waste—worst game I’ve played in a long time.
Don't get this if you like the OG Super Meat Boy this ain't no sequel
If you're a fan of Super Meat Boy and want to play a "sequel", then buy The End Is Nigh instead.
Unlike SMB:F, TEIN is actually a precision platformer with thought out levels instead of randomly generated stuff.

If you like Big Rigs Over the road racing, Duke Nukem forever, and Postal 3, this game will be a wet dream sent by the gods of shit. If you like this damn game, you’re either a sadist or mentally insane and your brain is busted. Meat boy and Super Meat boy werent even close to perfect games but atleast I was able to play some of those games with a smile on my face, this game however makes me want to put my ballsack in a shredder everytime i remember this joke of a sequel. This game is proof that Jesus died in vain and legally changed his middle name to "fucking". I am able to understand and still kind of enjoy games that are considered bad or flat out trash, however this might be the one that I00% can't enjoy. They have the audacity to add achievements where you cant die in a game where 99% of all your deaths seem very unfair and unavoidable. I would take a shit on team meat for making this game however my own shit would feel offended to lay on such a rotting corpse of a game studios. There's no real ending to this review because those insults I just typed are not even a fraction of how many death threats and insults I have said while playing this absolute fuck up called a game. This is an auto running game gone wrong, its a precise platforming game that forgot how to be fun, its a masochistic wet dream where everything hurts so bad it makes you stop being a masochist. This single game completely raped the main face of indie games, and Im impressed.
