Pure fun! The king never gets old.
the best video game ever made
Слабая игра. Пародия на пародию. Впрочем, оригинальный Дюк, будучи выпущенным в 2012, вполне мог смотреться именно так. Доиграл с мучениями.
decennnnttt
one of the best games ive ever played.
The comedy is there but the combat is very basic and the story is largely uninteresting
I don't understand the hate that this game got when it was first released.
I played and finished it for the first time in 2024 and it was actually pretty decent! Graphics are decent for the time, gameplay is not too bad. (its actually a bit similar to Half Life 2 in a sense)
Very refreshing if you're sick of the politically correct world that we live in now.
It's...ok. More nostalgic than anything. Everything gets boring and tedious quickly. The areas feel small and claustrophobic.
It's just...meh.

I hate to say it but we really, really do need a modern remake of duke nukem forever, all the ingredients of what people want in an absurd hypermasculine protagnost are all there!
I beat this game when it came out in 2012. This game gets a bad rap because it was in development hell for a decade and a half. Duke Nukem Forever isn't terrible, but at the same time, it offers nothing of great note. Duke Nukem Forever is a perfect example of a game falling short of unrealistic expectations. I would have preferred to play the unfinished game from 2001, before 2K got their hands on it. That game looked more interesting from the trailers alone.
The saddest part about Duke Nukem Forever isn't its gameplay, or graphics. It's the fact that it is boring overall. It is just an average FPS that was quickly forgotten to time. Duke deserves better than what he got in this outing. Maybe in another 15 years, we'll get another installment.
This game is always on sale. If you're going to pick it up, just wait for a sale. 2K seems to have sales quite frequently. There is no sense in paying full price for a game over a decade old.
Classic
They Nuked the Duke. After slugging through all the Serious Sam franchise. I wanted to check on how bad Duke Nukem was because of how much Serious Sam pokes fun saying its better than him. Let me tell you. I had more fun with this game that was stuck in development hell for 12 years vs the entire Serious Sam games. Playing this game in 2023 it really just feels like a satarie of the whole FPS genre. Honestly I see where there were going with this game. The down fall of an 80's American hero failing to stay relavate in modern times and for Duke to laugh of his false persona he puts on. Truly deep. I Don't they intend that since it was just about Las Vegas , money , sex and drugs, but thats what I saw. In the end. The creators had an idea and honestly the 2001 blue prints of the game looked better than the final results so it is shame it never came out. So they Nuked Duke in the end with a Nuke to keep sealed away forever... well until he walked it off and runs for president. Duke for President 2028. 5/10
Let me tell you something. If someone on the street asked me "What is your most disappointing game of all time?" It would be this game. Your probably wondering why? Duke Nukem is a horrible character, why would you be this disappointed in something like this? Well, to understand why, you would have to go back to the mid 90s.
After the PC release of Duke Nukem 3D, eventually console ports showed up (some in different names or even different looking games in general):
Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown (PS1)
Duke Nukem 64 (N64)
Duke Nukem 3D (Sega Saturn)
Duke Nukem 3D (Mega Drive in Brazil only, plays more like Wolfenstein 3D)
Duke Nukem 3D (Game.com, seriously? who owned this stupid thing?)
So when somebody told me about the game in elementary school (yes I was NOT the right age to play this game but my parents didn't care just as long as there wasn't explicit sex scenes.), I wanted to play it. However, I didn't have a MS-DOS or Win95 PC back then, so I had to (eventually in 1998) resort to the PS1 version. It was a good title, despite the controls not being the greatest (looking up and down was strange, but you would get used to it). Then the "Age of Duke" came around with spin off games:
Duke Nukem: Time to Kill (PS1)
Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (N64)
Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes (PS1)
Duke Nukem (GBC)
Duke Nukem Advance
Duke Nukem: Manhatten Project
This is when I really liked the character. A universe that basically revolved around this character where his known and beloved by many. So I have played a handful of these games, some were fun but not aged well and some were just bad (I'm looking at you Land of the Babes).
Then when I heard news about DN Forever, I was excited. Sadly, this came with a massive price. I heard that a GameCube version was (supposedly) in the works (remember I didn't own a gaming PC at this time) and I even saw a trailer in GameFAQs back in the day. So I got even more excited. Years passed by and the GC version was cancelled. Lovely (sarcasm). Jump to 2011, after years of bad jokes and puns, the game was FINALLY coming out. I (at the time) didn't even pay attention to how bad the graphics were in the trailer (I remember somebody telling me at work one day that the game looks bad). So when I got my Xbox 360 version of the Balls of Steel Edition after playing the Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke 3D (yes I didn't have the best PC to run this game at the time, but I bought it again years later), I put it into my 360, aaannnd noticed something..... this game is not what I was expecting after 14 years in development.
Okay so I am going to talk about my experiences with both the 360 version and the Steam version (since I replayed this pile of S*** again for reviewing). My time with the 360 was the first time, but I will be talking about the whole game in general.
So two things right off the bat that I noticed was the EGO Meter (similar to the Halo shielding system) and two weapon max system (wait what?!). By this time I was sick of the Military shooters that came out (COD games specifically), I wanted something old school and action packed. This isn't it. This game came out a few years after Wolfenstein (2009) and FEAR 2, and the same year as RAGE (a game that is way better and you should of been playing that year). Those games let you carry more weapons than Duke Nukem Forever. I hated this 2 weapon feature because you have very limited ammo in your weapon inventory (5 Rockets for RPGs, 64 bullets in your handgun (which is weak by the way), etc.) and for bosses, it's mandatory that you have explosive weapons in your inventory or you can't inflict damage on bosses period (what, do they have bullet-reflective armor or something?). That EGO meter is such a pain. If it depletes, you have to hide and wait for it to recharge. This is way easier said than done as enemies will gain up on you and kill you. It takes way too long to actually begin recharging. Also, you have to hunt down items for it to increase. These two features were clearly taken from other games so the game doesn't isolate itself from the COD fans. This was a huge mistake as it was not meant for a game like this. For the PC version, there was an update to have 4 weapons in your inventory (please use that if you are planning to play this game)
The story is basically Duke Nukem 3D but add some Half-Life 2 with it. A lot of using items, solving problems, driving, etc. The jokes are not that funny, the references are super dated (even when I got the vast majority of them), the characters are really bad (Dylan is annoying as hell). It just feels ripped from other media and not inspired
I wish I can explain the plot but, sadly, I can't fit the entire thing into a review. Overall, I feel that the game should of came out in 2001 because that version looked way better than this final product. George Broussard had too many ideas and should of used those ideas for sequels. No matter what, a game will always feel dated. If you used a heavily modifed version of an engine from 1998, it's going to be even worse. I should mention that there should of been a limit on how many times an engine switches should be allowed. Also, shame on Randy for over hyping this pile of crap. F this game. This game killed Duke. I never want Gearbox to make another game in the series again but who knows what will happen?
i think the game had like balls or something
Don't know the hate for this classic but i really recommend it! 10 of 10
TND (total nukem Dsweep)
Randy is Greasy
Down with Randy
This is not Duke Nukem, this is a shell of a man.
it gud
Still good. but wouldn't say I would play as much now back when I used to when it first came out for launch on consoles and these platforms but yeah, is still a average game
Duke Nukem Forever is strictly for the fans.

Verdict - Explanation:
Duke Nukem was good fan service in theory. However, its visuals were disappointing even upon release at 2011, barring certain well scaled locations. Game mechanics feel clunky and ordinary.
Some jokes were culturally dated, while some jokes such as the parody of famous celebrity events, and the game breaking the fourth wall to make fun of its extensively delayed release were brilliant.
I particularly enjoyed the opening sequence where they recreated the final battle of the 1996 game, and explore Duke's quarters in Vegas before he goes down for the late show when action begins.
The first couple of missions looked like it was going to be a great game after 12 years in development hell, but the rest was largely a disappointment barring some well planned boss fights and setups.
Some levels such as the old western styled level after a highway, the crash course level where you start on a chopper, and parts of the dams and dome levels were what we originally expected from the game.
The game was criticised for its excessive use of vehicles and shrunken mode and some platforming. The game also felt more tactical rather than outright run and gun fun.
The game was also criticised for adopting a halo styled regenerating health and limited carried weapons mechanic, although it makes the boss fights feel better planned out compared to earlier.
I’ve tried several times to play this game now. I’m a fan of shooters in general but this isn’t a good enough shooter to make up for how bad the writing and design is. You can do a lot of fun things with the Duke character but they went for all the most boring and stupid ones. It doesn’t even work for shock value since Postal or GTA does that better. It just feels like they’ve taken the most disgusting teenage boy from 1995, encased him in amber and then thawed him back up again. Come to think about it that’s probably exactly what they’ve done.
Once upon a time, people weren't afraid to insult someone and inject dumb jokes into a game. It's dumb, but that's what makes games fun. I didn't play this game when it came out, but now I think this game is much better than the modern novelties.
Never played this game til recently but for $3.99 it's worth it. I know that this game is one of the most hated games ever but I really enjoyed my time with it.
A game like this will never release in today's climate. The game doesn't take itself seriously and I appreciate all the crude humor it has. Runs very well, no surprise for a game that is over a decade old.
Overall its a fun solid game!
awful in every way you could possibly imagine
Let's get one thing out of the way right out of the gate - there's so much wrong with this game, content-wise.
Its misogynist dialogue and art direction leave a pretty bad taste in the mouth throughout. DNF is adolescent and cringey and borderline offensive by comparison; so much so that DN3D comes off as merely bawdy by comparison.
Then there's the gameplay - far too often, we're stuck doing some tedious platforming or vehicle levels, and the underwater level is so mind-numbingly awful... The game seems to have no clue what it wants to be - the complete lack of vision throughout development is front and centre. Some of the puzzles erred just to the wrong side of esoteric for me.
But when the game gets it right, it's entertaining enough. When it gets out of its own way for long enough to have the player shoot things until they're dead, fun can be had. I missed having access to my full arsenal of weapons, as in DN3D, so combat sometimes felt a little compromised, but the level designers did usually give effective weapons at the right times.
Would I recommend this back in 2011 for the full retail price? Lord no! But for a few bucks and a few hours of cromulent enough gaming, I think I can just about recommend.
this game is good
BORING AS F
Randy Pitchford's masterpiece.
Don't listen to the hatred around this title. It has some dated frame of references but the overall point of this game is a throwback to 90s fps games and the goofiness that comes with that.
nowadays it is funny to play, give it a chance you may like it.
i love this game the cheesy 1 liners to the over the top action, duke nukem is a classic game if your into 80's/90's action then you'll love this game too
Honestly, on sale, this is very easy pick up, its got a uhhh "unique" campaign to say the least and it can be rough around the edges but its a very interesting and often fun ride. the story dlc is good too.
Recommended only for those who played the first Duke 3D. It has lots of cool ideas but poorly executed. Mediocre, yet still a must-play for fans.
besides the nudity this game is straight gas
I love duke nukem he is so amazing and cool
Solid game for its time, but tbh it's not really worth going through. Some of the lines made me laugh, but overall the games graphics looks muddy and smeared. Solid 4/10 for me.
better than slop coming out today, but its still ass.
screw Doomguy , just Duke

“It’s time to kick ass and chew bubble gum—and I’m all outta gum.”
Duke Nukem Forever is the long-awaited sequel that emerged from the shadows of gaming history, and it’s nothing short of a wild ride. After a notorious 15-year development cycle, fans were eager to see if Duke could still pack a punch, and while the game isn’t without its flaws, it manages to capture the over-the-top essence that made the franchise iconic.
Gameplay: 7/10
Duke Nukem Forever blends first-person shooting with platforming and puzzle elements, reminiscent of classic 90s shooters. The gunplay is satisfying, with a variety of weapons that feel impactful, from the classic pistol to the outrageous shrink ray. However, the gameplay can sometimes feel dated, and some mechanics may not live up to modern standards.
What sets the game apart is its unapologetic humor and outrageous scenarios. From battling aliens in strip clubs to riding on a giant, inflatable version of Duke, the game embraces its campy roots. It’s a nostalgic trip, albeit one that sometimes falters under the weight of its ambition.
Graphics and Sound: 7.5/10
Visually, Duke Nukem Forever shows its age. While it features some vibrant environments and creative designs, it doesn’t quite match the graphical fidelity of contemporary titles. Textures can feel muddy, and character models may lack polish. Still, the varied settings—from futuristic cities to alien-infested bases—offer plenty of eye candy for players willing to overlook some rough edges.
The sound design is a mixed bag as well. Duke’s one-liners are often hilarious, embodying his over-the-top persona. However, some voice acting feels uneven, and certain sound effects don’t pack the punch they should. That said, Duke’s classic catchphrases will likely elicit a grin or two from fans.
Story and Humor: 8/10
The narrative picks up where the last game left off, thrusting Duke back into action to save the world from a new alien threat. The plot is simple, but it serves as a vehicle for the game’s humor and outrageous moments. It’s filled with clever nods to pop culture, video game tropes, and Duke’s signature bravado.
The humor can be divisive—some will find it hilarious, while others may see it as dated. However, for those who revel in the absurdity, the game delivers plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that capture the spirit of Duke Nukem.
Final Thoughts: 7.5/10
Duke Nukem Forever may not be the revolutionary sequel some hoped for, but it’s a chaotic love letter to the franchise’s legacy. It combines nostalgia with a healthy dose of humor, showcasing Duke’s larger-than-life persona in a world that still feels vibrant despite its flaws.
Fans of the series will appreciate the nostalgia, while newcomers may find themselves entertained by the outrageous antics. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s precisely what makes it a fun, albeit imperfect, experience. If you’re ready to embrace the madness and revel in Duke’s world, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in this unapologetic throwback.
Yeah, nostalgia has really done a number on me cause why was I so excited to play this game? I remember playing it back in early 2015 on my 360. I was halfway into the campaign and having a blast when I was forced to return it because of my mom. My friend's parents weren't happy I browsed the game either, and I honestly can't blame them cause this game is trash. 20 minutes in, and I already wanted a refund. Looking back, the only thing that mildly interested me was Duke turning into a toy soldier (shrinking) and playing with RC Cars, etc. I just couldn't see myself reliving those "fun memories" with the game's "fun gameplay". I've played plenty of old classics but his game just wasn't it for me
That's my childhood.
It reminds me of one of my best friend, who showed me that game so we could play together on his console ;*)
I haven't finished the game yet but... I don't understand why people dog on this game so much. It's fuckin great! It's seriously alreday one of my favorite FPS games. If you love the humor, combat and ladies of Duke Nukem 3D, then you'll enjoy this worthy sequel. Don't listen to the critics, play this game!
Very Interactive, hilarious dialogue and fun multiplayer
I came here to chew ass and leave a review...
And I am done with the review.
This game is akin to my ex-wife. Ugly, dull, and unfulfilling.
It wasn't that bad as people make it out to be!
I really enjoyed playing this to be honest.I did beat it and it was FUN!The game is different to the Duke Nukem 3D,it is missing some things but it does not matter. The game has kind of outdated gameplay mechanics for example you can hold maximally 4 weapons, your health heals itself and more. But honestly, theme is interesting and it gets better and better while you complete missions and last boss was little challenging and amazing! They wanted to make game like kind of remake of old tho get the nostalgia, and humor was also harder than Duke Nukem 3D,but the game is worth buying it!I did not saw any bug or glitch that makes gameplay unplayable, what can i say,I really recommend it!It is EPIC!
Big fan of the past games, but this just doesn't do it for me. I lasted about 90 minutes before I decided I'd rather spend my time doing something else. Graphics are fuzzy/blurry the closer you get to them which just became way too distracting, and the game play is clunky (hated the RC car bits, targeting meanders too much). And the jokes, the humor, are either just too dated, or the game is trying too hard to "out-Duke" the previous games. It's kind of like watching Benny Hill....yes, it used to be hilarious back when it aired, but now, it is just...creepy.
Well, I'm only out $4, so no biggie.
