Описание
The summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are cicadas, and by night, the higurashi.
Hinamizawa, a small village in the Japanese countryside.
While there are fewer than two thousand people there, every year, 'something' happens.
For the past 4 years, someone has died, and someone else has gone missing.
This series of deaths and disappearances is connected to the local resistance against a now-abandoned dam construction project.
A murder during the construction, covered up by the local authorities, is being re-enacted year after year.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?
Someone who was supposed to be there... isn't.
Someone who wasn't supposed to be there... is.
Someone who was alive last night is now dead, and someone who is here right now isn't alive.
There is no way to avert this tragedy. There is no choice but to give up trying.
But even so... please don't give up.

Great chapter to completely flip your views.
These people are crazy!
Let me start by saying that I didn’t initially think to write a review when I played through the Question Arcs. My emotions were a tangled mess, mostly because I couldn’t grasp what was happening in Hinamizawa.
These feelings stemmed from the nature of games with multiple overlapping narratives, where one suddenly introduces a new character with no prior mention in the earlier chapters, leaving you to think, “Wait, who is this guy?”. For a brief moment, I was really confused and thought, “How is the author going to tie these pieces together if they don’t even happen in the same universe?” Sigh. Look, I’ll enjoy the story just as much as anyone else, but these feelings won’t just vanish, and I don’t think they will. Regardless, I’m still eager to see what wild side of the story I’ll experience in the next chapter.
If you’re reading this and still undecided about whether to continue, that depends on whether you want answers (or are content living with the mysteries, like Miyo). However, if you’ve made it this far, you might as well keep going, because the quality is exactly what you’d expect from a Higurashi game — and that’s a damn good one.
the beginning of what the "when they cry" games call "answer arcs."
one of my favorites. i think the answer arcs are some of the strongest in this particular series. i love being strung along with a somewhat unreliable narrator. aaaa i dont want to give too much away so just please read it yourself.
this one, like the last game, takes place a good chunk before keiichi shows up. so lotsa context is given and we learn a lot about characters we've only heard about in passing...
ryukishi07 is really a master of his craft. lovely work! <3
hey it's the chapter that made me love mion more than i already did! I had an inkling that something more involved was happening in watanagashi-hen but the fact that mion was completely innocent of the murders of satoko and rika and was completely genuine about her love for keiichi and the rest of the friend group was just the icing on the cake. clearly mion is not completely absolved of responsibility, as she continued to uphold a lot of the toxic traditions that come with being part of the sonozaki family, but the events of meakashi really hammer home the fact that she's only a teenager dealing with this metric ton of responsibility
shion also gets a huge amount of development here, and it did help increase my enjoyment of her character a little bit. mainly, it was cool to get to see a chapter pretty much entirely in another character's POV and with so much content from before the events of 1983. and unlike a certain horrendous reboot series, even though quite a few scenes (particularly the last third) mirror the events of watanagashi, meakashi isn't just a straight retelling of a previous chapter from shion's eyes. there's many similarities, enough to give the audience the key as to what was really going on during that chapter, but the overall narrative and information gleaned is different enough to be thoroughly engaging on its own.
satoshi also finally gets to be a character rather than a hushed whisper amongst the main cast! I find it interesting too that so much of his thoughts and motivations are completely assumed by shion, so we ultimately don't get to learn too much about him, at least on a deeper level. it's great though that we at least get a little time with him, and the scene where shion is finally able to reveal who she really is to him is quite gratifying.
this is also the first chapter where ryukishi07 presumably now had the budget to hire a composer to do the music for the series going forward, rather than the royalty free stuff that was used all throughout the question arcs. I think ultimately this was a good direction to go in, especially considering how many amazing songs dai would go on to compose for umineko, and there's quite a few standout tracks here. it sets such a warm, but melancholic mood befitting shion's return to okinomiya and her subsequent need to hide herself away. fitting that satoshi's first appearance would be scored to the series's first appearance of you and its leitmotif, basically a ray of warmth in song form to break up the monotony and loneliness of shion's day to day life
I won't lie though, i do miss a lot of the royalty free tracks, and luckily a few still pop up here and there. the "replacements" for some of the more iconic tracks (ie where paris a go go would have played before, boy in the windmill now takes its place) are very good and do evoke a similar mood to the originals. anyway I've rambled way too much for a review that I'm really only writing for my own self-satisfaction lol
8/10, very strong start to the answer arcs. loved the new vantage point we got to view watanagashi-hen from, as well as the overall tone.
this chapter is the definition of OHHHHH SO THATS WHAT HAPPENED, I love shion and after this chapter....its hard too but i still love her. I feel like at times the chapter gets a lil edgy and over the top but shions thoughts are interesting the whole way through. This chapter made me love every cahcrter more and want to keep reading to figure out more. Also no i didnt guess like anything that got awnsered here lol
This chapter has got to be one of my favorite chapters in this series. It reveals a lot behinds the Watanagashi chapter and fleshes out Shion as a character!
As always, the warning in the beginning isn't joking. It was hard to read through this chapter at times.
Good answer chapter
Shion best girl
Overall really good. There are parts that are actually scary. And since it's been a while since I read Watanagashi it made me feel I could go back to it again.
At certain points felt a bit too long thouhg.
story of a crazy delusional bitch, as much as i love this chapter i absolutely despise the main character. it's the most action so far, thankfully it answered for many of my questions and proved my doubts
overall it's a great piece of work
good ass Gamebeuh
good game :)
October 22nd - Higurashi When They Cry: Meakashi - 16h 24m - (100%) - Beat the chapter, read all the tips and the staff room.
Pros:
As the first answer arc, Meakashi delivers, answering most of the questions laid out in Watanagshi such as the syringe Rika had and how Mion stabbed Keiichi after she was supposedly already dead. It does this while leaving mysteries for the remaining chapters and even creating new ones, such as who Rika was calling to when she died.
This chapter greatly benefits from the POV character being Shion instead of Keiichi, like in most of the question arcs. It allows the reader to understand the dynamic that Mion and Shion have and how close they are. Alongside that, the chapter starting a year earlier gives insight into Satoshi's disappearance and the twist that he was the one who murdered his aunt.
The big twist that Shion was the one who committed the murders while pretending to be Mion was surprising yet made a lot of sense considering her love for Satoshi and wanting to punish those responsible. This leads perfectly to the moment where she realizes Satoko's strength and how she failed to keep her promise to Satoshi. To further crumble Shion's motivations she finds out that the Sonozakis aren't responsible for the murders, which is easily the most direct clue given to the reader so far.
Meakashi also has the most memorable soundtrack so far, with a bunch of great pieces, such as Solitude, Thanks, Confession, Shadow and of course the ending theme You.
Neutral:
The one plot point that could've been explained a bit better was the fact that Mion and Shion switched places permanently at some point before the events of the game and that Mion was born as Shion and vice versa. The reason I was confused by the swap was due to Shion's insanity. I thought that she was so insane that she started believing herself to be the true Mion. She was already pretending to be her after all. Luckily there's a tip at the end of the game that spells it out for you very clearly in case you managed to miss that plot point.
God I wish Shion would stab me
Nail biting
I guess Rika's throat was itchy
Be aware there is no joy to be had here holy shit..
peak

That went well...
