Follow the story of "The Fan", a serial killer abducting women to fulfill his dark fantasies. His latest catch lies in his basement but she's not ready yet. Everything needs to be perfect for the ritual, when he'll show her "True love".
The fan is a first person exploration game with a unique twist. Driven by a creepy and unsettling atmosphere, it will take you deep within the darkest places of Paris underground.
Gameplay
The Fan is a short experience. It takes about an hour to see all endings.
The Fan is entirely made with photos. It has a classic "point and click" feel, using only left and right click but it's closer to the recent Telltale Game series than to traditional adventures games. There are no painful mini-games or artificially inserted sliding puzzles as it is more about discovery and choices. Find out more about the Killer and his victims as the story unfolds and you may be the one to ultimately decide their fate.
WARNING: The game isn't rated yet but I wouldn't recommend if if you're under 16, due to the themes and some violent sequences.
More About Me
My name is Cyril and I'm a Frenchie indie game dev. The Fan is my first released game ever =)
The game was created using Unity Personal Edition and mostly Lightroom for the pictures. I started the project in 2012 and did all the shootings, which was really fun, but when it came to actually "make a game", well, it took much more time, effort, tutorials, training and hard work than I expected :D
Although The Fan is a pretty short experience (there are no overly twisted puzzles to keep you from going fast if you wanna rush it), it took thousands of pictures and a tremendous amount of work to make it look good enough. So please, tell me what you think!
Feel free to contact me directly if you have any question or comment, I'll be happy to answer!

The Fan is a point-and-click thriller-horror game that captivates with its unsettling atmosphere. The story revolves around a stalker-serial killer, and the player spends several days witnessing events through his eyes.
The main feature of The Fan is its visual style. All scenes in the game are created using real photographs, which enhances the sense of realism and immersion. Every frame feels like a masterpiece worth capturing - the visual work is top-notch.
The game lacks dialogues, and all storytelling is conveyed through atmosphere, visual details, and interactions with objects. Some parts of the story can only be discovered through newspaper clippings, which adds an extra layer of mystery but also leaves gaps in the narrative.
Gameplay is straightforward with no complex puzzles or challenges. Players simply need to find specific items to progress, which might disappoint those expecting deeper and more interactive mechanics.
The game is short, but there are multiple endings. However, there are no achievements, so there's not much desire to go through all the endings.
Overall, the game’s setting is impressive, and it had great potential, but unfortunately, it was not fully realized. I bought it during the sale and don’t regret it.

Original little morbid indie horror game, where you play as the serial killer. The game takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete on your first playthrough, and then after that you can get through the game in about 15 minutes. There are 3 endings. The game is not that gory or scary, it is not as violent as the screenshots suggest.
+ The graphics are photorealistic, literally, the game environments are real locations.
+ The story is simple yet interesting.
+ Very immersive, the game would is well put together. Lots of time was put into decorating the rooms.
+ Fun little cameos of video game characters, and on one instance you can even get Rick Rolled.
+ Game feels original, new and fresh design.
+ Music and sound effects are simple yet fit the mood, serviceable.
- Game is short, wish it was longer, sequel?
- One item is hard to find and might have you running around in circles for awhile, try looking up!
Overall 7.5/10
I found this to be an interesting project. It's very old school mechanically in that most of the game consists of still images overlaid with indicators of interactivity; at heart it's basically a hidden object game but the unique topic lifts it above the mass of those games out there. The Fan is unusual in that you take the role of the obsessed killer that has already managed to kidnap his prey and the game doesn't give you much of a chance to turn away from your actions or repent. On the rare occasion you're allowed to be a "bad guy" elsewhere in gameland, it's most often either on the proviso that you get the chance to redeem yourself, or because the game is open and you can act how you please so the option to be "good" is always present. Here, you are what you are and there's no changing course. Despite the multiple endings available, it's actually quite linear - these endings are the result of the only 2-3 choices that exist in the game and apart from those the only agency you have is the order in which you collect items in each chapter. Even when the girl survives in these endings, it isn't because you've had a change of heart as a character but because she either manages to escape or you make a catastrophic error of judgement that's based within your fixations. These design choices reflected the obsessive nature of the character you play, and I appreciated the sense of inevitability and lack of control this conveyed. It does look like it must've been fun to make, if perhaps a bit difficult to explain to the neighbours - it seems likely that the backdrops are real people's houses and apartments that have been shuffled around a bit for filming, which lends a nice punky DIY aesthetic to proceedings. The photographer behind the scenes has a good eye for ambient storytelling, with the items strewn around each area revealing something about the lifestyle of the inhabitants (the boyfriend has pretty good taste in videogames it has to be said). The serial killer's nest in the basement in particular is very effective, with photographs and mementos of previous victims and the current target covering every surface not currently occupied with bloody rags and torture implements. The game is quite short and once you've finished it once there's no effort at all involved in rushing through to see the other endings, so even if that initial playthrough is thorough you'll probably get less than an hour out of this unless you're determined to get all the steam trading cards for it. Overall I liked it as a curiosity, though perhaps once best purchased on sale.
"If I was a serial killer, they would find all my victims heads, In funky-ass gas station toilets, and if I was a serial killer, I would be strange and deranged, and I would never change" - Violent J from the song If I was a serial killer..
The world has long been intrigued by serial killers,, from the police officers who attempt to catch them, to the press that loves to give them funky names and make them larger then life, to the females that write too and ultimately marry them.. Lots of them have become larger then life and well known.. Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Samuel Little even Richard Ramirez.. Documentaries on Netflix, hour long specials on the ID channel, movies and television shows, America is hooked on serial killers, but what about the victims. Well in most cases people ignore them, give them little recognition and instead choose to focus on the killer..
This game touches on serial killers a bit, you play as a deranged killer whose identity remains a secret, but the press has given the nickname "the fan". You're newest victim is restrained in a chair and ready for you to begin doing what you do.
Gameplay - the game plays out using a mixture of videos and photos. It's a point and click game that has you explore a few smaller areas and collect a few hidden items before moving onto the next area..
Pros -
Decent concept,
Looks and plays exceptionally well
Claims multiple endings but I only saw one
Trading cards and Point shop items.. very nice
Cons -
Very short, I have 5 hours played but like 4 1/2 were farming cards
needed more content to justify the 5.99 price tag
No Achievements makes me a sad Panda
Recommendation -
For 5.99 it's difficult to recommend a game which will last under an hour.. While the game certainly has some merits and it's a really interesting concept that I think more developers should explore (playing as the bad guy). The content that was provided is interesting and unique, but with it being so short and lacking the bells and whistles.. Far better games exist for the price point.. With that said if you can find the game for under 3 dollars it might be worth a play just because of how unique the concept is.. it's also hurt by the fact it doesn't have achievements, it's 2024, not having achievements is almost inexcusable at this point.
I got away with it.
