You’ll play as Ivy, a daring and cynical adventurer, as you spend 3-4 hours traversing a modestly-sized world of cheeky dialogue, terrible puns, and lovingly crafted artisanal frustration. Will your skills and irrational dedication to finish what you’ve started triumph over the forces of bad camera tracking, long cut scenes and useless allies? What other perils might lie in store for your delicate temper and extra-throwable wireless controller!? Find out for yourself as you explore the game already being called “Game-changing,” “Extraordinary,” and “Graphically extant” by a sentence you’ve read! Rage Quest! Mean-gift it to your enemies!
FAQ:
Q: Is this a game where I'm going to have to do a ton of grinding?
A: No. You can grind for EXP if you want, but it should not be necessary.
Q: Will I become frustrated while playing this game?
A: Count on it.
Q: Am I going to see the jokes about how NPC's always say the same thing and heroes steal from people's houses yet again?
A: No. Rage Quest is mostly a satire of bad/frustrating game mechanics and game design. Not necessarily of RPG tropes.
Q: Have any of these questions actually been "asked frequently"?
A: No. That's not how anybody writes these things anymore.
Q: So there's really no clear limitation on what can be asked here then?
A: Don't get carried away.
Q: So what are you wearing?
A: Uh... um... zip-offs and a hoodie.
Q: Zip-offs? Hahahaha, are you kidding me? Hey the 90's called, but just to say hi. They don't want those back.
A: That wasn't even a question! FAQ OVER!

TL;DR: 9/10 game. Highly recommend it.
I just finished this game and I have to say it's some of the most fun I've had with an RPG Maker game. I picked it up on a whim since it was cheap ($3 at the time, in case that changes in the future), and I'd definitely say it was worth picking up if you have any interest at all and the humor in the screenshots is your kinda thing.
The characters and story are silly, and had a bunch of charm. If you've played old-school RPGs and are familiar with the tropes, this game is aimed at you.
Pros: (95%)
- Short playtime (~4 hours, and you could go faster than I did for certain)
- Consistently entertaining writing that kept me laughing throughout
- Combat complexity not too much, but a pleasant surprise
- Every enemy is quirky and creative, with tons of unique skills and dialogue
- 'Bad game design' gimmicks were funny enough to justify their design, and most didn't overstay their welcome
Cons: (5%)
- If you don't like this type of humorous metacommentary narrative, it's just not gonna be for you; the gameplay is good but the writing is the primary focus here
- Some of the places where random text is used in-game could use a few more lines to pull from; by the end of my playthrough, shops (which have random dialogue each time you enter them) were starting to loop back into messages I'd seen, and the Imp of Impudence enemies appeared so frequently that I really wished they had more potential lines of dialogue for me. Same with the Bat Facts Bat enemies.
- I got lucky and randomly decided to grind prior to getting the airship, and I'm glad I did - due to Tonk being uncontrollable by the player, you take so much party-wide counter damage during the next boss fight that I'm not sure it's possible without making sure Foof has her party heal spell.
As a side note, I streamed the game and think it makes a great stream game. Very silly and lots of fun to do voices for the characters.
This game was so god damn good, fr. Humor was spot on every step of the way, the game play was satisfying and the twists were fresh af. Solid work and hope you continue making awesome games like this
Just f'n no.
SHORT VERSION:
Buy this game if:
A: You laughed at the jokes in the screenshot, trailer, and store page.
B: You're okay with a game that's fairly light on combat mechanics, though there are some tough bits.
Don't buy this game if:
A: You didn't laugh at any of the jokes, because that's the main point of the game.
B: You don't want to deal with jokey bad mechanics. Each one is brief and I thought they were funny, but I finished Enchanted Arms, From Software's most sinister gauntlet.
LONG VERSION:
MY PROGRESS:
I've completed the game. The 3-4 hour estimate is accurate.
STRENGTHS:
- Jokes
This is subjective, but I laughed a lot. I think this game rises above other games like it in two main ways.
1. It has a wide variety of jokes beyond "Man, this game sucks, huh?". I particularly enjoyed ZOGAR'S MURDERARIUM and the one-off NPC dialogue, but even combat has some pretty solid one-liners.
2. Instead of being a part of the universe, the main character is someone who got bored and started playing the game while waiting for their burrito to cook in the microwave. That distance means that when the joke is that the game sucks, Ivy's commentary is earnestly frustrated instead of cynical, which keeps the overall tone of the game jokey instead of too cool for itself.
- Stability and Performance
Despite the subject matter, the game ran perfectly fine on my machine, which is nice. It's a strong machine, but y'know, RPGMaker.
WEAKNESSES:
- Click here if you're stuck on the flower puzzle:
You have to buy a saw from the shop, and there's a barrel in town that you can roll up to the house.
OVERALL:
It's a far better investment of money and time than the vast majority of comedy movies out there. Check it out!
Hilarious example of how to handle parody games RIGHT. Excellent writing, good pacing, and superb price make this a must buy for an comedy or RPG fan.

Holy CRAP. I can’t remember the last time a game, besides something Crankage Games cooked up, got me to laugh so hard I was crying. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started up this game, but the meta ‘game within a game’ and then never taking itself seriously was amazing.
You start the game innocently enough, but it quickly becomes apparent that Ivy (you) is the only sane and logical character in a world FULL of badly written NPCs and horrible camera angles. Eventually you manage to get the upper hand on the world. I won’t spoil anything, but how you fix the airship is nothing short of genius, both in actual GOOD game design and comedy.
The main draw of this game is that you are a player PLAYING another game...an RPG Maker game that is filled with bad design choices, copy & pasted maps, and terribly written sections that smack of a developer that is too full of himself. But that’s just it...it’s SUPPOSED to come off as pretentious and full of itself! It ticks off all the boxes of a bad game, but does so in such a subversive and meaningful way, that you almost forget it’s a game poking FUN at those sorts of things, until you hit the punchline and just sit there in awe, holding your sides.
Parody games (and to an extent, games where you are self-aware) are delicate things to get right. Too obtuse, and no one will get the joke. Too blatant, and people find it boring and unfunny for ‘trying too hard’. I dunno what the developer, Kyle, was doing to come up with this masterpiece, but he struck gold. Easily one of the best RPG Maker games, and easily the best parody game I’ve ever played. By attacking the designs, and not the tropes, it’s a fresh take on what can be a stale topic.
+Hilariously takes jabs at itself and other games for common ‘bad’ design choice
+Doesn’t overstay its welcome, and plot moves along at an excellent pace
+Every Inn’s name is a pun, and that’s just Inn-credible
+Excellent price
=Dragon Boss was somewhat difficult and annoying, taking several tries (and a dead Tonk) to finally down. Unsure if intentional or not. Clever girl
-There was only ONE Choose Thine Destiny book
Nice little game, that get's better after the airship. :-)
(Bought it on sale for 1,49€.)
Worst game ever, won't play again
10/10
Well played it for the first time today and..I wanna shoot someone now! OMG it is funny and frustrating! Great game!!
Nice gameplay, Nice story. Soooo spicy. Love this game
I really enjoyed this game. It took me about 4 hours to complete it after searching every nook and cranny for all the loots and exploring the entire map. I managed to beat the game with lvl 13 characters, which i am assuming will be about average level for the end.
I have managed to figure out 8 of the 11 achievements now after having played a total of 8 hours, but can't work oout how to get the last 3. I have a feeling 1 is to reach 1m coin and another is to reach level 20, but i have no clue what the third could be or if my guesses are even right!!
The story does seem a little short, but it is very well put together and if you have a good sense of humour, you will enjoy almost every moment of it!
I would post the achievements i have managed to get, but that may ruin the fun for others, despite the last 3 i havn't unlocked bugging me as badly as it is!! I didnt even realise it was only released 2 days ago, 1 day before i bought it, until i looked at the store page after i completed the game. lol
EDIT: Now i have 10 of the 11 Achievements. Started a new story and managed to get another 2 by accident. I had my doubt on there being an achievement to reach a certain level, but i am confident on the possibility of reaching 1m coins. I will post an achievements list below when i unlock the last one IF i can work out how to black it out for spoiler reasons for those who dont want to view them.
EDIT 2: Finally have all of the achievements. Fastest time to complete the game for me was about 85 minutes, reaching level 9. The last one wasn't what i expected it to be.
Here is an achievement list for those that want to get all the achievements. If you don't want spoilers, dont hover over the blackness to see what the achievements are :) NOTE: they are all in order of completion, so if you want to get them all in 1 save, do them in the order they are listed.
AGAIN, SPOILERS!!! (ACHIEVEMENT LIST)
[Spoiler]1. Self-Abusive Gamism - 20 attempts in the fair at the beginning of the game (missable)
2. Sk1llz - Get the the end room of one of the spider caves, rescue the person and get back out, without facing any of the spiders along the way, except the boss spider at the end in the second town (missable)
3. Completionism - Reach all of the endings in the book in Princess Foof's Bedroom
4. All of the Idiots - Collect all 3 followers; Tonk, Princess Foof and Torovosimir, respectively
5. Scorpion-Based Fast Travel System - After collecting all 3 gems in the 3rd town (desert), run into a scorpion to teleport back to the entrance.
6. Tell us Again, Grandad - Die to the dragon 3 times (missable) (this was the last achievement for me to get, coz i was always 3 magic characters and Tonk on phys, so i countered the dragon easily)
7. h4x - Fix all of the game issues (and possibly collect all 3 cheat notes, not sure) (missable if you need to collect the cheat notes as well)
8. What are you Doing Here? - Return to where you fought the dragon, after you have fixed the airship and open the chest.
9.M-my Destiny - Resturn to the 3rd town (desert) and chat with the 'poorly translated' speaking character after you have recieved 'Admin status'
10. Special Snowflake - When you reach the final room, leave the castle instead of proceeding to the final boss battles.
11. 99% Completion - Beat the end game bosses [Spoiler]
Ever play Final Fantasy 1 (NES Classic) ? Then you will definitely love this game.
