I think, as a person who had played all the south park games this is the best one. The fractured but wholes fighting system was horrible, and snow day is just in general bad. This is the best south park game of them all.
Amazing game. The combat system is great, the story is very interesting and unique. The only negative is that there are just a few side quest
My favorite of the trilogy, such a great story, great references to the show, overall a great game and a really good 100%
THIS GAME IS SHIT FUN if you like south park i recommend you buy this game it does have little bugs and issues but its still plenty fun. BUY IT
Pretty short but all in all pretty good. Had good laughs playing it
The Stick of Truth is a surprisingly good RPG, and I wasn't expecting that from a licensed game. However, it's made by the developers who worked on Fallout New Vegas so I can't be too surprised. It is a fantastic game all the way through, and one of the best ways I've seen someone describe this game was, "A 15 hour South Park Episode". Seeing the show before playing definitely clues you into jokes and running themes but I feel anyone could enjoy this game regardless of prior knowledge.
One of the most fun games I've ever played. Started on a Friday and before I knew it, it was Sunday night.
Very funny, detailed and polished of an rpg. The plot manages to accurately recapture what it's like playing as kids on a schoolyard, with people bending the rules or just quitting over small little arguements. The premise alone gave the kid characters that childlike curiousity that has been sorely lacking from the actual show by season 17, when this first came out lol. Which was always one of the most likable aspects about this series for me, how plots in the early days would get kicked off by the boys' misguided schemes causing a tangible effect on the real world in one way or another.
The only issue I have with this game is the length and pacing? Not even of the story itself, but the way they structured the sidequests so that you can basically get through a majority of them one after the other, leaving not much to do in the latter parts of the game. Now the obvious solution to this problem would be "just don't do them so quickly?", but I was kinda hoping that the sidequests would ramp up in difficulty over time, instead of just largely staying the same outside of a few *super cereal* instances.
Great rpg that rewards your time and investment with this show and it's characters, man why can't other liscensed games be this mindful of their show's legacy?
Hilarious and has terrific turn-based gameplay! Highly recommend for new players! Play this BEFORE Fractured But Whole if you want to play chronologically!
Never thought a game could feel so much like a T.V. show and still be awesome! Everything a south park game should be. If you're a south park fan, Buy it!
Been wanting to play this game for years and I finally got to play it for the first time and I LOVED it. Funny game play and easy to learn game play. Would recommend to my friends.
It's a great game, and it feels like you're inside the original cartoon. I only wish it was longer, and more weapons/customizations would be great. 9/10
Surprisingly solid RPG with as-expected South Park shenanigan for a plot. Personally not a fan of the QTE:s in the slightest, however.
If you desire more South Park into your life, give it a go.
South Park is know for pushing the limits of dark humour and controversial topics. This game did not disappoint. Best game they have made by far!
It was a fun game. I think the coolest thing about it was feeling like I was in the show. They did a great job with bringing it to life in video game form and there was enough depth and novelty to keep things interesting for the 12-15 hour length. I will say that I expected over-the-top shocking content given that this is South Park but there was some stuff in here that really was ridiculous.
Fuck all bad reviews, this game is unironically the best game ive played in years. i had alot of fun. 10/10, 100%. this game is amazing. The combat system is good, and the quests are absurd as hell. funny also. good plot.
THis is Classic South Park at the core. It is so much fun to revisit and try out the different abilities and classes.
Good relaxing game. Very fun story, laid back game play. Its like a special episode of south park just for you
very fun and funny turn based combat game. Better than the second one which I did not finish because it was not as good as this one. 3.5/5
this game may not be that long but it's extremely fun both in story and in gameplay
Good game, best combat in south park games and best south park game
Not only is the Stick of Truth a great game for South Park fans it is also a great turn based rpg. The amount f jokes, references and gags they were able to fit into this game while also working on a full season of television is astounding. 10/10 would recommend
Good game, but 30 bucks is a bit expensive for it. At 8 bucks, the price I've paid though, it felt worth that price. Wait for sales before buying, buy it if you like RPGs and South Park, if you don't like either, watch a YouTube let's play or play another game, because even when taking my time it was rather short for a RPG at this price tag.
I love South Park and this game really makes you feel like you're in an episode! The one bad thing is, there are some items and collectibles you have to get in that moment or you'll be locked out. So if you want to get all achievements in one playtrough, I'd recommend a guide because there's definitely a few sneaky Chinpokomon (I got locked out of 2 when I finished my first run). Other than that I love it and can't wait to play the next game!
Best South Park game, kinda short but still entertaining. The achievements for this game were so fun; getting 100% isn’t as horrible as in other games. I recommend the Saddam Hussein mod for the Face Hoff achievement and making multiple save files every hour of the game.
This is the funniest RPG you will ever play. It's also the best light RPG i personally have ever played. Everything from the quips, insults, Cuss words, and even the way characters carry themselves, This game is flawlessly accurate to the show. 100% a must own for all Millenial gamers, And a damn good time for gamers as a (fractured butt) whole.
I really loved the concept of this game because it is special and u don't see games like this everyday. The gameplay was really fun, I felt like I was playing a phone game but a million times cooler.
The story was very rich and I would add this in the game category description as well. It was very interesting seeing all kinds off plot-twists.
The combat was very interesting and being able to have different abilities and throwables and such was really nice, and sometimes u had to change ur upgrades cause the kind of enemy u were fighting.
Character's were really nice developed and I felt like i was watching the South Park episodes and not playing a game which was really awesome and I'm thrilled to play the "2nd" game of this franchise even though they only have 2 games kind off (not counting the PlayStation 2 ones which are old as shit)
The only thing that I would change is not really a change but I would make more games as this one but yk with a different story and shit and I would also make it a choices matter game.
GG
It's fun! It really is so authentically South Park, and absolutely outrageous in some areas. I feel like the battle system has quite a bit of depth that isn't really explored in the game's short length. It's very easy, but it does feel like you're playing an episode of the show. Definitely an easy recommend if you like South Park.
South Park: The Stick of Truth is truly a remarkable game. With tons of replay value and a variety of crude jokes, it really does feel like your apart of an episode (Or season!). Although some parts can involve missable items (Which I've had to restart numerous times to figure out), It is one of my favourite games and I'm grateful that I can still enjoy the game even with almost 100 hours of game play.
This, overall, was a very fun game and I hate turn-based combat, but gave it a chance and am glad I did. It felt like I was watching a South Park movie. The only trouble I had was with the QTE at the abortion clinic, but I got through it by using the keyboard for the first 2 steps and a controller for the vacuum part. Other than that one bug, that only few seem to experience, it was enjoyable.
I may be a gigantic South Park addict, but seriously this might be my favorite video game ever. I really wish there were more missions, but I've already gotten 34 hours of fun (only 10% of which felt grindy) so I can't complain at all, plus you could probably play through at 3 times with the different classes, though the main story might get repetitive. Also, after you beat the game the only fun thing to do is to fight in the forest, which starts to feel pointless.
It seemed like there wasn't a single good character left out of the game, with practically every reference imaginable being an in-game item or something in a closet. By the end I regretted selling all my collectible reference items since the game's difficulty tapers off quickly. Everybody who likes South Park even a little should play this hilarious and fun game.
I think Matt & Trey must have been involved directly, because it really feels like one long episode, which is perfect.
Controls 3/5
Replayability 3/5
Story 4/5
Gameplay 4/5
Atmosphere 5/5
Humor 5/5
South Park Stick of Truth has cemented itself as one of my all-time favorite games hands down. Every year for the last 11 years I have returned to it to replay through it in its entirety. If you are a fan of South Park the show, then you will love this game.
The game itself follows a traditional role-playing, turned based combat format that, while simplistic in nature, keeps the gameplay fun and engaging. Overall the game can be a bit easy, so if you are a person who prefers challenge I recommend setting it to hard difficulty. For myself, I enjoy being sucked into the world of the show. It truly feels as though you are playing an episode of the show. The characters are hysterical and in true South Park fashion, the absurd situations the boys find themselves in are juxtaposed with their mundane and pretend game of swords and sorcery. I won't spoil anything but my favorite sequence of events is having to fight your way through the school, the drama and character interactions are peak South Park.
One critique I will give is that you do tend to become overpowered very quickly. After about 2 hours in, I figured out how to basically eliminate low level enemies without them ever being able to retaliate and damage me during confrontations. Then at random story moments the difficulty will spike, though not to an overwhelming degree, but it is noticeable. Still, if you are ok with those issues, and you love South Park, you'll end up loving this game.
If you're a South Park fan, you'll absolutely adore this game. I sure did. It has fun RPG combat mechanics, hilarious humor, ~10 hours of gameplay (and probably much more for the side content,) and a wacky yet satisfying story full of references from South Park. Get this game, now!
So this game is really good if you love south park and want an episode of south park.
It's good because it's a game where the story is the most important aspect, almost everything else is disapointing in comparaison. I did end up finishing the game and enjoying it so I really can't complain as I am a casual enjoyer of south park so I bought it knowing what I wanted in and enjoyed it.
8/10, if you guys love the tv series, im sure you'll love this game, pretty solid and classic game, also w/ the same dark humor feel to it, good game thou
Great game far better than I thought it was going to be. Do not try it if you don't like south park humor.
I've been watching South Park since I was a kid, so you can imagine how excited I was to finally play South Park: The Stick of Truth. For me, this is an absolutely fantastic RPG set in the South Park universe, capturing everything that makes the show great amazing characters, hilarious jokes, and that signature humor that you just don’t see in modern games anymore, which is a real shame. It’s also evident that Ubisoft used to know how to make great games, unlike today.
This game has many layers and they're all hilarious. While spoofing on RPGs, the game itself is a very fun RPG. Lots of customization and multiple play styles to choose. Jokes hidden everywhere and the most out of pocket greatness in a game I've played. 7/10
South Park: The Stick of Truth
Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
Publisher: Ubisoft
Platform(s): PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo Switch
Released: March 4, 2014
Overview:
"South Park: The Stick of Truth" is a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) that brings the iconic animated television show, South Park, to life in video game form. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, it is the first South Park video game to receive widespread acclaim for its humor, storytelling, and genuine RPG elements. The game’s narrative revolves around an epic battle between two factions of kids who are embroiled in a grand, over-the-top game of fantasy role-playing, with a plot that intertwines deeply with the show's trademark irreverence and absurdity.
Story and Setting
In The Stick of Truth, players assume the role of "The New Kid," a character who is new to South Park and quickly becomes embroiled in a fantasy role-playing war between the "Kingdom of Kupa Keep" (led by Cartman) and the "Elves" (led by Kyle). At its core, the game follows a typical fantasy quest: retrieve the mystical "Stick of Truth" and save the town from chaos. However, in true South Park fashion, the story takes wild and hilarious detours, satirizing everything from fantasy tropes to modern-day social issues.
The narrative feels like a natural episode of the show, capturing its satirical, biting humor and irreverent style. The characters you meet along the way—from the foul-mouthed Cartman to the perpetually moralistic Stan—are voice-acted by the show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who lend their authentic humor to the project. Their involvement ensures that the game truly feels like an episode of South Park, with the same unapologetic edge that the show is known for.
Gameplay and Mechanics
At its core, The Stick of Truth is a turn-based RPG. Players navigate South Park, engaging in battles with various characters, completing quests, and discovering secrets hidden throughout the town. Combat is simple yet satisfying, allowing players to control a small party of characters (with various sidekicks like Butters or Stan) who each have unique abilities.
The battle system is based on timed attacks, where players need to press a button at the right moment to enhance their attacks or block incoming damage. While the combat isn’t overly complex, it’s enjoyable due to its humor and strategic depth, especially when managing character buffs, debuffs, and different abilities. The game also includes RPG staples such as leveling up, customizing your character’s abilities, and equipping various armor and weapons, which are often absurdly funny (e.g., you can wield a "Druid" staff or "Crutch of the Holy" to knock out enemies).
One of the highlights of the gameplay is the deep customization options. Your character can be customized in appearance and outfit, though the choices are often limited to what fits the South Park aesthetic—funny, quirky, and sometimes gross. However, it’s the game's humor that truly stands out. The dialogue options, battle taunts, and interactions with NPCs are all laced with jokes that will have fans of the show laughing out loud. It’s not just about fighting—it’s about embracing the absurdity that is South Park.
Exploration in South Park is also very engaging. The town is well-rendered to resemble the show’s 2D aesthetic, with enough familiar locations like City Wok, Tom's Rhinoplasty, and the local police station to make any fan of the series feel right at home. Players can rummage through trash cans, loot houses, and engage in various mini-games. All of this is tied together with an enjoyable and accessible map system that makes finding objectives easy, but still allows for fun distractions.
Humor and Writing
This is where The Stick of Truth truly shines. Fans of South Park will feel like they’ve stepped into one of the show’s iconic episodes. The writing is sharp, witty, and filled with crude humor that South Park is famous for. The game doesn’t shy away from controversial or taboo topics, whether that’s political satire, pop culture references, or downright disgusting jokes. It feels exactly like an episode that you would see on TV, with all the same charm and shock value.
From the dialogue trees to the cutscenes, everything is imbued with the same tone that fans have come to expect from South Park. The voice acting, as mentioned earlier, is top-notch because Parker and Stone are not just the creators—they are also the voices behind many of the characters. This gives the game a natural flow and consistency, with every line feeling like it’s straight out of the show’s script.
Visuals and Audio
Visually, The Stick of Truth stays faithful to the animation style of South Park. The game doesn’t try to go for high-end graphical fidelity—instead, it adopts a deliberately simplistic 2D art style that mirrors the show’s hand-drawn, paper-cutout look. The result is a visually charming experience that feels like you’re inside an episode of South Park, without any over-the-top graphical effects that would detract from the authenticity.
The soundtrack is minimal, but effective, featuring ambient sounds from the town and battle music that fits the chaotic nature of the fights. The best part, however, is the audio design: The voice work is flawless, with Parker and Stone reprising their roles as the main characters. The sound design complements the humor of the writing perfectly, further immersing the player in the world of South Park.
Replayability and Content
The game's length sits comfortably around 12-15 hours, depending on how much side content you decide to dive into. There are plenty of side quests and collectibles to keep you busy, though the focus remains on the main story. The decision to leave out any real post-game content is a bit of a disappointment for completionists, but the overall experience is well-rounded.
Final Thoughts
South Park: The Stick of Truth is an outstanding RPG that doesn’t just rely on the name of the franchise to carry it. Its combination of turn-based combat, hilarious writing, and faithful recreation of the South Park world makes it an experience worth playing, whether you’re a fan of the show or just looking for an entertaining, irreverent RPG. While it doesn’t break new ground in terms of gameplay mechanics, its humor and authenticity are what truly make it stand out. For fans of the series, it’s a no-brainer.
Score: 8.7/10
South Park: The Stick of Truth is a fantastic RPG that perfectly captures the humor and absurdity of the South Park series. Its engaging combat, memorable characters, and sharp writing make it an experience fans of the show won't want to miss. While it may not reinvent the RPG genre, it excels at what it sets out to do, delivering a truly fun and entertaining adventure in the hilarious world of South Park.
This game is a funny south park game, although i recomend getting it during holiday discopunts, were the price is as low as 3 euros
The BEST South Park game to date. If you enjoy the show you will most likely enjoy The Stick of Truth. The combat gets a little repetitive after a while but I would still recommend trying it out. Overall 9.5/10
as a huge fan of South Park, I purchased this game when it was on sale (which you should buy it when it's on sale) and i was not disapointed. This was if not the only game Ubisoft did not ruin. This game felt like I was watching an entire season of South Park, and the combat system is simple, but very fun. Only downside is that the game can be repetitive at times, but overall, I highly recommend this game, especially if you're a huge South Park fan like me.
A lot of fun if you are a fan of South Park.
I purchased it on sale, and it was worth it.
It's like they made a 14 hour long early south park episode. Shit's crazy. Cannot recommend enough.
I find immense pleasure in this exquisite game, from its captivating gameplay to the enchanting artistry and melodious compositions. It is truly remarkable, and the conclusion is equally delightful.
Its a very fun turn-based rpg, but I'm really not sure if I can recommend it if you are NOT a South Park fan.
This game on it's own is more that solid enough, but the IP it's attached to is the main reason you would buy and play such a game.
If you dig Matt Stone and Trey Parker's work, then its definitely worth picking up
Pros: subtitles & windowed mode available, 3 difficulty settings (accessed through the menu), good soundtrack & voice acting with a large cast of characters, character customization, tutorial available, hilarious comedy & story line (with plot twists), 4 classes to choose from, simple yet fun turn-based combat system, no total inventory encumbrance, save/load files available, multiple side quests
Cons: a small amount of video options in the menu, no borderless windowed mode, there is not a “sell all junk” button, leveling up is super slow, inventory items can only carry a stack of x10, mana bar doesn’t say how much mana you actually have, does not state whether a weapon is two-handed or one-handed, sewer level needs a map, attacking the cafeteria fortification puzzle is poorly designed (especially with the wall vent which has nothing to do with the puzzle), could have a better “hint” system for puzzles, poorly designed abortion clinic puzzle, could use a better system & interface to manage all the inventory stuff in the late game, ending was meh
Overall, a solid RPG game with a lot of comedy. Be warned there are NSFW & offensive themes in this game. The entire game takes about 20 hours to complete on the easiest difficulty.
South Park: The Stick of Truth has my recommendation.
Amazing game, deserves all the praise. Like playing through one long South Park episode with lots of references. Gameplay itself is simple, but fun and rewarding. If you're into achievements good luck because some are impossible to get unless you do multiple playthroughs. It's well worth multiple playthroughs but be warned.
