GunHero now has Steam Workshop support! You can create, play and rate custom levels using the in-game level editor & level browser!
About the Game
Fight your way through multiple environments filled with traps and obstacles, each more dangerous and deadly than the last. Shoot bullets and throw grenades at your enemies while releasing prisoners from their cages. You are the hero this evil-filled world needs.GunHero is a 2D-action-platformer-shooter filled with handcrafted levels set in various environments, where each one contains its own unique dangers. Your task is simple: save the world from the evil Count Darkcape.
- Shoot your way through enemy troops, pick up weapons from your dead foes, yield destruction with your grenades and become victorious with the help of your shield! But don't forget about the prisoners and hostages that desperately need your help!
- Watch out for the deadly traps and obstacles! Spike balls are much harder to dodge than you'd think, and is there anything more dangerous than a huge blade? Well, maybe a spinning laser beam, or a missile launcher. You can travel on rotating and moving platforms, climb ladders or fly using the large propellers. Just don't get trapped on the roof of an elevator as death by getting crushed between an elevator and a wall is not a pleasant death.
- Having trouble? Could the world maybe use a few heroes more? Just invite a few of your favorite friends over for some good old-fashioned couch co-op! Enemies won't stand a chance against you.

GunHero is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This is a comedy/action themed shooter with a tongue-in-cheek plot about the bad guy just being a bad guy so you have to fight him, breaking the fourth wall and all that kind of meta stuff. Which is almost amusing enough to make you smile, so it's a shame the rest of the game doesn't keep up. And really, does Steam need more 2D retro pixel amateur platformers? There's literally thousands of them, and outside of Terraria and Super Meat Boy, none of them are truly successful. GunHero certainly isn't, and it's easy to see why.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
To make matters worse, while lazy, low quality pixel "art" has been used, making the game look bad, many elements of the game aren't done with pixelcrap... which accomplishes a couple of things. First, it shows the developers perhaps could have done better and they knew it, so that's a major screwup.
Secondly, it destroys any hopes the developer had of creating a "retro aesthetic" as their excuse for the lazy pixelart compromise... It looks completely inauthentic from a retro gaming perspective. Visually, this is a hamfisted mess, a dogs breakfast of bad visuals, and this kind of laziness and poor quality should never be foisted on gamers.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.
This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. GunHero has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "The More The Merrier", for playing the game multiplayer, trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.
That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
GunHero has the ridiculous price of around $8 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
For comparison, the $8 asking price for this game could get you games like "Deep Rock Galactic", "Prey" or "Mass Effect Trilogy Pack". No pixelcrap is worth $8. If developers want to get paid the same kind of money as real game developers who know how to do graphics properly, they need to learn how to do graphics properly.
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
This game got me actual cancer.
Best game in the world!
It's the Super Meat Boy with co-op, it's the Broforce with parkour, great game with a campaign and workshop support. Made by one man also so that's cool, hope he makes more in the future
i play you'r the game(video),
TLDR: it's the good game, but the game goods you
sad times by poras moten:
sad tiome we liwe in,
an so i go on with life;
with big sad in eyey,
goodbye crewl word,
i go eat big mac now.
I think many people will look at this trailer and think this game is just a broforce clone, this is not the case, there are some similarities to broforce: similar graphic style, guns look and feel very broforcey, and the levels have hostages that must be rescued. Unlike broforce, this game does not have destructible environments, instead it has very solid level design filled with platforming challenges and other obstacles to avoid.
The game is broken up into 5 worlds, each world has tons of levels, the levels are relatively short(anywhere between 15 seconds and 3 minutes), and each world ends with a boss fight. The level design is absolutely brilliant, every world has its own unique look, and its own unique obstacles. The first world is pretty simple, it acclimates you to the controls, which are super tight, and then starts rolling out unique game mechanics. You get everything from bombs that need to be defused within a certain time, to platforming challenges filled with buzzsaws, falling icicles, fire pits, and so much more.
Gunhero is a tough game, but due to the shortness of the levels it will rarely frustrate you. Respawning is instant and each time you die you will want to jump right back in. This is the type of game that makes you keep saying one more level and before you know it, a few hours have passed. The challenge is handled right, there are a small handful of levels that feel a little luck based but they are few and far between. For the most part the level design is brilliant and you will constantly be running into new challenges throughout the 4 hours or so this game takes to beat.
Boss battles are fun and frantic, most of them require you to run through a level as the boss chases you and then you get to a point where you have to fight the boss.
Gunhero is a fantastic game, if you are a fan of challenging shooter platformers than this game is an absolute must play, don't overlook it as a broforce clone, it plays nothing like that game, and in many ways I had a lot more fun with this game than I did with broforce.
